Over Xakanaxa Camp

"Amazing animals - camping in luxury"
In Botswana, we stayed at 3 safari Lodges – Savute, Xakanaxa and Xugana – owned by Desert & Delta (who have 8 lodges and are part of a larger Botswanan company Chobe Holdings – who also own Safari Air amongst other things). Booking three lodges with Desert & Delta made transit between the camps very straight forward and enable us to get a discount. All Desert & Delta lodges are run on the same operating model, the location, management, staff and facilities provide the differentiation between the Lodges. The Xakanaxa location is spectacular and provides opportunities for exploring by boat as well as land drives. Coincidentally, given our new interest in birds our guide, Chemical, turned out to be a bird expert - as well as an animal expert. Chemical was the centre of life and attention and made sure we had the opportunity not just to guide him on what we wanted to see but also ensured that if anything unusual turned up elsewhere we were soon there as well. This included getting the boat stuck in the reeds to ensure we had the opportunity to see a rare and timid Sitatunga (antelope). Despite getting stuck and having to push the boat out of the reeds, he still managed to serve sundowner drinks with a smile and laugh! The camp is very pretty and the tents very comfortable and clean. Our tent balcony had a view of the lagoon through the reeds (tent 5) There are two small swimming pools, one with a view. While the atmosphere was not as positive and infectious as Savute Lodge. We still had a great time and would recommend the camp to everyone. The staff and management were friendly and helpful. Our guide Chemical was the highlight of our visit, he ensured that it was a fun and unique experience. We stayed at Xakanaxa for three nights, this felt just right and we would recommend three nights to everyone who visits. Note, this review is one of many from a trip to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique undertaken in Sep/Oct 2016
"Waterworld -- a haven for birds and antelope"
A lovely waterside lodge, very green and attractive, with covered decks for eating and lounging, two very nice, refreshing swimming pools, an elevated fire ring for nighttime gathering. Tent rooms very comfortable with patio, connected full bathroom. No A/C but large fans help, excellent attentive friendly service, very good food.
"Game lodge in the Delta"
Intimate game lodge in the Botswana delta. Game drives on land and boat trips through the delta. Our guide, Chemical, was knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. Facilities and food were excellent. Typical African big game animals and many different, beautiful and exotic birds. Hippos making noise right outside your tent may keep you up all night, but who could ask for anything better.
"Super wildlife viewing"
We arrived at Xakanaxa Camp on 30th September to a warm welcome for a two night stay. The location was excellent. Tented accommodation was non AC but very good and comfortable. On the downside the room fan was not available after 10.00pm. Xakanaxa was warmer than our previous two camps which had air conditioning. Without the fan I could not have a good nights sleep. Room had an old safe lockable with a key which is not practical because no one wants to carry keys. The hotel must invest in modern electronic safes. Wildlife viewing was super and credit goes to our Ranger Chemical. He made extra efforts to ensure that we took very good photos even with an iPhone. Thank you. Considering limitations in a camp in the wilderness food could be rated as very good. Staff were committed and service was very good. THANK YOU all.
When brought to our tent, our bed was beautifully decorated with flowers with a bottle of bubbly also left for us. This trip was in celebration of our 30th anniversary. All the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our guide Dicks, was phenomenal. It was amazing how he was so quickly to locate different wildlife. He was able to quickly pick out the exact tree that a juvenile Verreauxs Eagle Owl. His knowledge of the wildlife was extraordinary and he also provided guide books for us to get even more knowledge and spelling of everything that we saw. I kept a journal and a checklist for each drive as it was so difficult to remember everything, because we saw so much!
