"A wonderful 10 nights on our Honeymoon!"
We have just returned from our honeymoon at La Pirogue, and it has been a fantastic experience. As a couple, we have never really done the "luxury all inclusive" holiday before, but as it was our honeymoon, we felt it was the time to do it! We booked through Destinology on the "honeymoon package" - Which offered a "free room upgrade - subject to availability" - We were naive in thinking we would actually get this. As we travelled in November, every room was booked up, so there was never a chance of a room upgrade - I did email the hotel prior to arriving, and they gave the generic "subject to availability" answer - I would have rather been told "We are fully booked for the next few months", to save any false hope we had. When we arrived, we were greeted by the staff who provided a cold flannel and brought us a drink straight away - Top service! However, my first gripe was with the lady who was booking us in - I didn’t catch her name, but I believe she was quite senior on the reception team. She was extremely friendly and welcoming…. However she was also extremely quick to talk to other people (staff and customers she knew), whilst she was serving us. Now, we weren’t sure if it was a “culture†thing, but as the holiday went on, she was certainly in the minority when it came to this service. As someone who has trained “customer service†people in England, this was a bit of a disappointment having only been there for 5 minutes. Once we were checked in, a porter took our bags to our room (on a golf cart), whilst we walked there. The hotel is set on very spacious grounds, and although it was full…. It felt very empty (which was bliss!) - You never had a “busy feel†to it. We were staying in room 119, which was a semi-detached garden view room - As soon of the reviews have stated, there have been a few rooms which have been “updated†- This wasn’t one of them. The decor was a bit tired and the bathroom needed upgrading (not horrendous, but not what I would have expected for the money). Gripe number 2 came about 5 minutes after we were settling into our room. This is potentially very picky, and some might find it irrelevant (as everyone has paid to be there) - But we were placed next to a couple with a young child/baby, who enjoyed screaming most of the night. I completely appreciate couples with young children have as much right to be there, but as it was our honeymoon (with the potential for free room upgrades and a bit more “service†than usual), it would have been nice if they had thought about where they were placing the honeymoon couple….. However, I’m in danger of just listing the negatives, so lets focus on the positives. The grounds are spacious, beautiful and peaceful - It is like walking through paradise. The staff on the whole, are unbelievably good. They try and make a personal connection with you, and you tend to gravitate towards them when you see them at breakfast/lunch/dinner. They really can’t do enough for you, and provide a 5 star service. A special shout out to Kamilla who looked after us at breakfast most mornings, and at “Paul and Virginie†during lunch. She is someone I’ll remember forever, and really made our time extra special. We also had a special “honeymoon dinner†at one of the restaurants which was a bespoke seafood menu - As someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy seafood, I was apprehensive, but Asif, who was looking after us that night, completely changed the menu (on the spot), just for me! I believe he was the restaurant manager, and he was an absolute credit to the hotel - I couldn’t have asked for more. The facilities on site are ample - The “sports area†included table tennis, mini golf and a boule sand pit - The table tennis tables (2) desperately need replacing, and the mini golf could also do with a bit of love. However - It was nice to have it there none the less. The food was amazing at every restaurant we ate at (and we tried them all) - The 2 lunch cafes near the pool, the main buffet restaurant, and the al a carte (Paul and Virginie). Overall, La Pirogue is a 4 star hotel, with many many 5 star features. Whilst I’ve mentioned some “issuesâ€, we came to terms with those early on, and didn’t let it spoil the holiday - Once we’d put them behind us, the whole experience was fantastic, and I’d recommend La Pirogue to anyone wanting a taste of paradise.
"Maryline Decube at La Pirogue - Summerise the service at a very Poor Hotel"
I am a business traveler and wanted to organize an event at the hotel in December 2016. I went to view the hotel on November 16th and the sales Manager Ms Maryline Decube was the unhelpful hotelier I ever met. I travel a lot and we have 9 offices across the globe; to my surprise, she didn’t want to help at all and was just rushing me around as if I was wasting her time and she had better thing to do. I was shocked of the customer service I received by this lady. When I arrived, the security at the door didn’t want to let me in even though I have booked the meeting months in advance and confirmed with Ms Decube in the morning. The reception was a shamble, no one greeted me and I was just wondering around the lobby while they are arguing behind the desk. I will never step foot again at La Pirogue and will make sure I tell everyone I know and spread the words on social media. It is very important for me to feel welcome especially when we are welcoming others at this venue for business purposes. If I didn’t feel the warmth , I would not put my clients through this bad experience and therefore want to share it with the world not to stay there . There are many nice hotels in Mauritius, La Pirogue is certainly not the type of hotel you want to be in if you want service and professionals staffs. This is just my experience and we decided to do out event somewhere else and I am off to Mauritius again and will be staying at Flic en flacq but away from La Pirogue and Ms Decube for sure!!
"Where do I start "
We are due to fly back to the UK tomorrow and I don't want to go! Iv never written a review but this holiday deserves it. Lapirogue is the place to go to relax. I cannot thank the staff here enough for what they have done, genuinely fantastic people that work hard on a daily basis, yet still find the time to make you feel valued, I also work in a customer facing business and pride ourselves on customer service, if we embraced half the level of service in the U.K that they do here we really would be outstanding, This hotel offers HB FB & AI we were Al and we're treated exceptionally well, VIJAY - COCONUT CAFE outstanding customer service! Friendly polite, he made our holiday special! Thank you JEEWAN - nothing was ever to much trouble, who made us laugh, and was a Newcastle supporter 🙄 & PREVASH - our evening waiter that generally looked after us, along with so many other people, he remembered little things about us, something so small that meant so much, 😬 All of the above consistently offered a high level of service which I will never be able to thank them enough, They deserve the recognition as I'm sure so many of them do however these were just the ones that stood out, fantastic gentlemen that will always be welcome to come to us in the uk so we can return the favour! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH Sooooo if your thinking of booking a holiday somewhere u want to relax & enjoy this certainly is the place! lots of water sports available, trips, we did the island tour! Well worth a visit on the one love speed boat all day!!! And we did the swimming with dolphins, all fantastic so much to do you won't get bored Lapirogue Mauritius was our dream come true Thank you to you all! â¤ï¸ MR & MRS HARRIS ( room 104)
We have just returned from a very enjoyable and relaxing fortnight at this resort. Our bungalows were lovely and kept beautifully clean by housekeeping; the dining experience throughout the day was delicious; the drinks and ice creams from the blue bar were most welcome; the attention to service from the man in his little orange van was much appreciated; and the gardens and beach were out of this world.
"very very nice beach hotel"
We stayed in 169 beach room- a newly decorated room-small sitting out area, nice bedroom with TV and minibar fridge- wardrobes and bathroom with both shower and bath.A very short walk to to fantastic white sand beach- with plenty of sun beds and umbrellas available. Like many other Saskil the drinks man- who the cart which drives up and down behind us on the beach all day, serving any drinks you could want, made our holiday. He is a lovely friendly , chatty man. The AI allows you to pre book and eat in the restaurants at sugar beach hotel ( sister hotel- next door). We had breakfast at Thatches, and a few evening meals- which we good , but preferred to eat at Tides or Citronella in sugar beach. Tides was our favorite. Our only negatives were the housekeeping staff removed my NEW hairdryer- we did get it returned. I did spot 1 cockroach walking along next to the hot plate at Thatches one evening time! The worse was out experience of Paul and Virginie- we waited 90 mins for our main meal from ordering!- and Tides food/menu/service out shone Paul and Virginie. i would return- advice is be organized with booking restaurants I did partake with the watersports- but everyone looked to be having fun. juliee-
