Staying briefly at this hotel and although had read on trip advisor that other guests had encountered cockroaches, did not think it would happen again. On one night I saw two and called housekeeping to come and kill them. I also wonder about the cleanliness as the towels are stained and the pillows do not have protective covers. Staff did try to address the issues but this shouldn't feature for a four star.
"Foot Loose & Fancy Free"
We spent 5 days of calm relaxation at this hotel. From the moment of arrival to the time for departure, we were well looked after by the friendly & attentive staff. We had an all inclusive package in the Sandy Lane adults only section of the hotel. Whilst breakfasts & lunches were taken at the general restaurant buffet style, evening meals were had at a separate restaurant from a set menu with a few alternative dishes offered per course. The food here was acceptable, but nothing remarkable. Wine choice was limited to say to say the least. Our room was clean & well appointed, with a balcony & a distant view of the sea. We sampled a massage at the Spa which proved to be rather disappointing; having requested a strong massage, it was gentle to say the least. The beach extended along the full front of the hotel & there were sufficient recliners & umbrellas for the guests. There are two pools, one reserved for the Sandy Lane guests which is quiet & private & served by its own bar. If using the beach, one tends to be hassled - in a friendly way- by Mackenzie & his buddies who can facilitate boat rides to see & swim with the dolphins. We did this excursion, & met up with about 15 other boats hairing around pursuing a pod of dolphins which I found very intrusive & distasteful. Not the hotel's fault!! All in all, we had a relaxing, restful & spoilt time.
"Lovely hotel & staff fantastic"
Staff just couldn't do enough to make our holiday so lovely All staff were polite friendly & helpful especially Baccan Clarel & others too but can't remember how to spell there names!!! Our waitress Anna on New Year's Eve was lovely & helpful too, nothing was too much trouble, think she gonna be an asset to your company in future years especially if Baccan & Clarel have her under their wings Excellent mentors & again a massive asset to your hotel. If we return to Marituis we will be choosing your hotel. Excellent location & pool beach great Along with the young entertainers again I can't remember their names but they were fantastic, energetic & made our holiday an experience we will never forget so Many thanks to you all for our amazing experience
"Not as good as we expected "
We stayed in the sandy lane section for a week in September. This gave us the benefit of another restaurant and pool. The hotel has a nice situation on the west coast but the beach is naturally rocky and a section has been cleared in front of the hotel which fronts onto the beach. Our room was comfortable and well equipped although I feel that a room in the main part of the hotel would have had a nicer outlook. Sandy lane is basically two blocks of rooms facing each other with another across the end. We were in this end block and the view from our room was the end of one of the other blocks. It appeared that most guests were on an all inclusive basis but we had booked b&b as we find this normally gives us a better choice of food and we do not always want a set three course menu. Breakfast was quite good with a good range on offer. However replenishment was not aways carried out in a timely fashion and sometimes the chef cooking eggs just disappeared. Birds were also a problem as other reviewers have noted. Our experience of dinner was disappointing. On our first night we were automatically given the set menu but then when the waiter realised we were not AI we were asked if we wanted this or would prefer the Al la Carte. We opted for the latter, not wanting three courses. Having been give the ALC we were told that only two dishes were available. We opted for the lobster and chicken curry which turned out to be chicken and prawns in a brown tasteless gravy. We did complain and fill out a slip but never had any response apart from several phone calls during our stay to ask if we were enjoying our holiday, which we were. We just didn't eat in the hotel again. I would say that the hotel meets all the requirements to be four star but is doesn't give four star service. Obviously other reviewers have had a much better experience but I would not stay here again.
"Great Place in a Great Place"
Our stay was great. The staff (all) were friendly, helpful and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. The room was good and always clean. The all inclusive system means that you have to sign a zero balance receipt after every meal or drink at the bar which is tedious. Other places have had simpler systems. The designated beach swimming area is chaotic. Granted it stated that it was unsupervised but there was pedalos, canoes, paddle boards, locals fishing with yards of mono-filament but best of all the guy with the home made spear gun shooting fish beside me snorkeling. The pool looked clean and would probably been a safer option. All in all it's very good but not perfect.
