"A comfortable starting point for our trip around Namibia"
After flying up to Windhoek from Cape Town we stayed at Olive Grove guesthouse for 1 night before heading out of town for a 2-week road-trip around Namibia. I imagine most people staying here were doing pretty much the same thing, since I’m not sure there’s too much to see and do in Windhoek itself. The guesthouse was easy to drive to from the airport, though I’m sure that’s true of everywhere in Windhoek. The parking was secured (at least for some cars – I’m not sure there would have been enough space for all guests), though a little tight with the very large vehicles that everyone rents in Namibia. The room was great: stylish and comfortable, with mod-cons like a good bed, effective air conditioning and fridge, but with an African feel to it. The service was helpful, though a little over-exuberant (e.g. calling a taxi before we had confirmed timings for dinner, so we were quite far off being ready when it arrived). The breakfast was pretty good, with a range of cooked options in addition to the cold buffet. Certainly one of the better ones we had in Namibia, though you should expect that in the only real city. I would struggle to say that this hotel represented good value, though I didn’t look too extensively at other options in Windhoek. This seemed true of value-added services as well. For example we realised that we had (stupidly) left our plug adapter in a socket in South Africa the previous night and asked if there was one we could borrow, before planning to also ask if there was a shop we could buy one from in the morning. Before I could get to the second question the solution suggested was that they sold them in reception for about £10. As it happened for us, this was very convenient, and I’m glad that the hotel had the foresight to have items such as this for sale. That being said, it was marked up to a price beyond what we’d pay in Europe! Overall though this was a comfortable first stop that we were happy with.
I stayed there for one night in October. It is a nice place, quiet, you can sit outside in the yard for your meals. There are trees in the yard and the place has a bit of a "country side feel" about it. The rooms are located in different buildings around the yard. Mine was really big, with air conditioning and a fridge; also the bathroom was huge. They have made it up in a kind of shabby-chic/ rustic/ Italian countryside style which is not to my liking. But everything was clean, and the food was very good, both dinner and breakfast. The people who work there, are very welcoming and friendly and the service is quick.
"Very pleasant Guesthouse"
We spent our fist and last night at Olive Grove. It's quite location, stunning purple tree, and secure parking was a good start. The rooms could be more appealing however they were very clean, the beds are large and comfortable and the bathroom although a lot of concrete, was spacious with lots of hot water. Breakfast is served buffet style with the option to order from , "around the world" cooked selection. The lady on reception was lovely when we arrived on our return trip, and the kitchen staff are pleasant and efficient at breakfast time. If you have breakfast after 8.30am be prepared to see the cleaning staff running up and down the stairs with dirty linen, and cleaning materials- not the most idyllic - such a pity they did not keep the linen upstairs until breakfast was over or have a cleaning store upstairs. We dined at Joe's Beer House on our return and reception kindly arranged a taxi. I note others have commented about noise however we were in room 3 on both occasions and the noise level was low, with very little traffic noise.
"at first nice, after 3 weeks NA Great !"
We started our trip in Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe in this hotel. We found the hotel nice, clean, the lady at the desk not too friendly. The dinner-meals very good. After our 3 weeks in NA we had to change our opinion : the meals were simply the best we had in NA ! Sadly our travel agency didn't book us again in the same hotel for leaving NA.
"A stylish and friendly boutique hotel"
We spent our last night in Namibia at this small hotel, arriving dusty and tired after a long drive. A friendly greeting, a comfortable room with a large bathroom soon made us feel relaxed. With a very early flight the next morning the easiest option was to have dinner in the courtyard restaurant downstairs. We were not disappointed. Our meals were very tasty and well presented - one of the best meals of our holiday. We returned to our room to find the bed turned down and complementary chocolates and port - a nice touch.
