"Great setting, good hotel"

   19-01-2017
Stayed for ten days over New Year, plus two children 13 & 9. Weather: always around 30 deg, 60% sunny, 30% cloudy, 10% rain. Rain never long-lasting. Accommodation: beach villa with a pool: bedroom with adjoining sitting room with two single beds. Right at end of the resort (good privacy); slightly dated room but good size for family of 4, inc private garden / large covered area / hammock & pool c.5x2m; direct access to almost deserted end of the beach. Restaurants: on full-board: buffet restaurant good standard and variety of food for this type of thing; two other restaurants with food included on full board in one of the restaurants, additional in other. all food 7+/10. wine ranged upwards from c.300Rps / £20, typically ropey house wine included. Activities: two main beaches; snorkelling on house reef pretty good (saw octopus/moray eels/abundant fish life); twice daily (free) boat trip to reef 1km away provided v good snorkelling. Beaches lovely. Uncrowded, always sufficient loungers. Pool fine. Paddleboarding & kayaks good. Golf buggies a/v for €70/day if required. Spa looked a bit tired. Hotel overall a bit tired but still good, more 4* than 5* really, but prices reflect that. Staff unfailingly polite. WiFi was fine for us; other people had issues. Sand flies but generally deterred with spray. Hotel massively underplayed activities available - would have been good to have had some info in the rooms on what could be done locally, and indeed some info on the island and surrounding islands - I'm sure people would have booked tours/day trips etc if info had been more readily advertised. Went to deserted beach on other side of island via deserted laboratories from former life as marine research island - bit like something out of Lost. They should pay more dues to marine education given turtles still laying eggs on the island. Snorkelling staff knocked over coral, flipped over urchins - hotel should be educating better. Overall, it's a great setting, convenient to Mahe, fantastic beaches and snorkelling; good food; slightly dated hotel but a truly great location and considerably better than being at work. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

"Amazing Staff ,Amazing Island"

   18-01-2017
My husband and I are well traveled and this is the most amazing place I have ever stayed ,the island has everything ,and words can't really discribe how well this has been planned ,I'm sure there are many reviews on here that praise the setting ,the rooms which was perfect ,the food ,and amenities ,but for us it's the staff . Befor I arrived on Sainte Anne I had a cycle accident on La Digue ,I had fallen from my bike and had bruised my ribs foot and arm ,my arm had a dressing on which required attention from the nurse .The staff were most concerned about my bruises and bandages ,very attentive and helpfull reserving us the nearest table to the Buffett and putting cushions on the chairs .On the 3 day of our stay I went again to have my arm dressed the nurse took one look at me and said you need to go to hospital I don't like tha amount of pain your in you look worse not better . We went to hospital were I was admitted with a broken foot and two broken ribs whilst we were waiting to be admitted the nurse rang the hospital to find out why we hadn't returned and this is where everything changes ,they hotel staff took over ,when my husband returned to the hotel leaving me in the hospital as he wasn't allowed to stay the management were waiting ,they telephoned the dr ,extended our stay at a very reduced rate ,arranged boat and taxi to and from the hospital ,brought me in food ,and accompanied my husband ,the manger using he's own car and time to help us .Most of our belonging were still back on Praslin so my husband had to return alone and pack our things and bring them back to Sainte Anne ,on hearing that my husband was flying to Praslin but was returning by boat the lady in the boat house rang the airport and reserved he's flight back .On my release from hospital my husband was accompanied by the duty manager he collected me in he's car and arranged the boat to Sainte Anne .We were supposed to stay for 3 nights but stayed for 7 ,cancelling other trips because I was in no state to travel and because the hotel wanted to take the best care of me it could ,they gave my husband a golf cart to drive so I didn't have to walk ,would provide free room serice ,the chef made me special meals and saffron infusions to help my rib pain ,the staff made a collection and brought me a pashmina and my husband a tee shirt ,it was our anniversary and they made us a special cake ,every member of staff was attentive ,caring and helpfull . Befor I could fly home I had to return to hospital to get a certificate to fly again the general manager accompanied us to the hospital waited the 4 hours it took and brought us back to Sainte Anne I cried a lot on this holiday mostly due to the pain and it's so scary to be so ill far away from home ,but the day I cried the most was on my return from my stay in hospital from the most senior member of staff to the lady who cleaned our room I have never experienced people like this each and every one of them are a complete credit to there company and I could never express our thanks for your kindness to me and care especially as I had injured myself somewhere else ,exceptional people who made a bad experience better .

"Very enjoyable stay though some improvements needed"

   17-01-2017
We stayed here for Christmas and New year after a weeks stay at Atlantis Dubai. It is private island with one resort comprising around 90 villa's so it is quite intimate. The Resort is lovely enough with white beaches and clear still warm seas that you can snorkel sail and water board in all day. The kids loved it. Though there was a little problem with sea weed on two of the beaches, the main one was very good. Our welcome was pleasant enough with a reception champagne and tour of the resort in an electric buggy. A slight miss-judgment was an insistence to pay for the water boat taxi transfer even though we had pre-paid this. We deceide to defer this till later as we were exhausted We upgraded to the half board as there was no a la carte restaurant over Christmas at a cost of about £45 per person. The food was buffet style. I don't usually subscribe to buffett but this one was but pretty good with lots of variation and live cooking and grilling. The girls loved the steak and the lamb chops were the best they'd had which for a 10 year old and 13 year old is some accolade. We tried the other signature restaurants later in the week, Monte Fleurie and Robinsons. I have to admit they a little disappointing. They weren't bad but but one got the feeling that they were trying hard to be something but not quite pulling it off. Additionally if you are on half board you have to pay for the a la carte in full again at full prices. Rather than having a surcharge on certain premium dishes. There is a chef's menu which was included and this was some variation of the days buffet menu .It would be cheaper just to have the full buffet . At Atlantis certain items like lobster or wagu had a surcharge but most other things on the a la carte menu you didn't have to pay menu price again. This is what I had expected. Breakfast was ok, filling and served with a smile. Not the variation you would expect at a 5 Star but this is an isolated Island, you have to bear this in mind is suppose. The beach restaurants were ok, though nothing special buffet only at lunch inside or beach menu. One minor issue was that we were told the inside restaurant was only available to sit in from the lunch buffet. We would have to eat the non buffet food on the beach benches. Even if, as was rarely, a passing storm. A quite word with the management sorted this out. On the subject of the management team, they were very customer focused, Serge, Aju, the sports manager, sorry I forget his name, had only been there a month from Morocco, but made a point of walking around making sure we were all enjoying ourselves. He was a star of the resort. The Island itself is compact but large enough so you are not constantly bumping into people. You can hire electric buggies to drive around for Euro 50, which was fun, especially for the kids who loved their first ever driving lessons. There are walks or buggy ride that you can take into the tropical part of the island but be careful as we managed to get about a hundred Mosquito bite before we decided to retreat back to the beach. We were concerned that December January was going to be we though in reality it only rained persistently for one day. The other days had rain either during the night or for 30 minutes during the day though nothing that should deter you from visiting during this time. I was told that this was unusual and the rains should have been more frequent getting wetter towards mid January. The Rooms are pleasant enough, spacious, clean and good on the eye. They are in need of an update though and this is planned later this year over a 6 month shut down. The wifi is a problem which, although, frustrating at times was welcomed at other times as it forced us to sit back and enjoy the views without distraction. When you understand the the Island is served with one cable, one can appreciate that it is a problem not worth bothering about. Pack the phone away and enjoy the scenery. I did have to look after some business on one day, though, so it did become a bit of an issue. Otherwise it only affects one's envy-inducing, FB and Twitter posts to the outside world; for which no doubt they were thankful back in the UK. Only slight issue we had was with a la carte menu (paying full price again) and the water taxi transport charge which took forever to resolve on our departure we had pre paid to beachcomber but apparently the beachcomber starts at the jetty on Mahe Island so make sure your transfer specifically states that the water taxi is included otherwise you will be landed with a £183 extra charge. We had this waived eventually by the GM Angelo though we had to excruciatingly go through the chain of command before he stepped in and gave the nod.

"A very relaxing tropical experience"

   16-01-2017
Although we booked our 2 week stay at the beginning of January, the height of the rainy season, we had 10 exceptionally nice days and 2 days with variable weather, thanks to the position of Sainte Anne relative to Mahe. Guests should keep in mind that rains also bring mosquitoes, especially since Sainte Anne is located adjacent a tropical jungle, however nothing that insect repellant and after-bite can't manage. Our stay was very relaxing from get-go. The staff were very polite, rooms clean, and the food was very good and variable enough to keep it interesting. The bungalow set-up does require some walking, but this is welcome and a lift in a golf cart is always available if needed. We spent 90% of our time at the beach, and finding chairs and calm waters was never a problem. Being a marine and nature reserve, there is access to great snorkelling and nature hikes. We were also fortunate to see 2 sea turtles laying their eggs as well as feed the land turtles. I can highly recommend this hotel, especially during the high season (April to October) and after the planned upgrades (although the current decor, although somewhat dated, has its charm). Overall, very good value for money in relation to other offerings and the type of family vacation we were looking for. Well done Saint Anne and I look forward to our next trip to the Seychelles!
