"Royal Villa Review"

   22-03-2017
We stayed for 9 nights in the Royal Villa, 6 adults and 2 infants in our party. The Villa was very spacious and well appointed with three very large bedrooms with dressing rooms and en suite indoor facilities and an outdoor shower which was a very nice experience. A very large lounge, patio with small swimming pool and plunge pool, magnificently views across the bay and great sea wild life in view from our villa balcony which kept the kids occupied. Complementary golf cart enabled us to get around very easily, 4 restaurants on site giving flexibility and good eating out options. We also enjoyed a family BBQ in our Villa which was special evening for my daughter’s birthday. Swimming pool, beach and water leisure facilities were all very good with additional excellent spa facilities. Ten minutes by ferry from the main island of Mahoe so if you wanted a change of scenery it would be very easy, although we didn’t bother. I would recommend the Seychelles and this hotel as a good destination for your stay here, we will return at some stage in the not too distant future.

"Pleasant resort but exceptionally average"

   12-03-2017
We spent 7 days at the Beachcomber Sainte Anne resort in the Seychelles in a beach front pool villa. From the website, it looked great and described itself as a 5+ star resort on an exclusive island in the Seychelles. The views, beaches are stunning and the grounds of the resort well-kept and very tropical. There are some aspects of the resort that do justify a 5-star rating, however the average service, lack of dining experiences and lack in attention to detail puts Sainte Anne a way from being a 5+-star resort. Arrival & Check-in - It took around 10 minutes by car to get to the ferry at the port which takes you to the island, Sainte Anne have their own boat which runs on a scheduled basis. On arrival to the port our luggage was taken care of and had to wait only 10 minutes for the boat to the island. The boat trip took around 15 minutes which was pleasant. On arrival at the island my wife and I and one other couple were met by a member of staff and escorted us to the bar area for check-in. We received a refreshing towel and drink. We were dealt with first which meant the other couple had to wait for 10 minutes until we were finished. Most of our details including last name was incorrect which they did not manage to correct during our stay. We were then left for 10 minutes whilst the other couple were checked in. When the check-in was complete we were given a quick tour of the resort and then taken to our room which was number 300 next to the reception area. As we arrived at the resort around 10:00 it was nice to get an early check-in. Room - The luggage was in the room and we had a bottle of red wine as a welcome gift. The room was very spacious, with a lounge area, bedroom, large bathroom (2 sinks, shower, large bath and small changing / wardrobe area). This pretty much matched the website pictures, but did feel very dated and old with the décor and furniture. The outside was not at all like the website pictures, instead of a walled private area with pool we had an open garden / deck leading to the beach and a much smaller pool area which had a small 1m high wooden fence around it, not at all private. This was made worse as it seems the staff when walking to reception via the beach walk very close to the villas and then turn and watch you sunbathing as they walk past. The highlights were a diesel tractor which drives next to the pool to pick up garbage from reception and a gardener who decided to spend an hour with a petrol strimmer at the back of our villa whilst watching my wife sunbathe. The actual sunbathing area was very pleasant and had good all day sun with no obstructions. The bed was very uncomfortable, on inspection it turned out to be two very old and thin single mattresses on two single bed frames pushed together with a sheet thin cheap double protector covering them both. We had several issues with our room, we discovered after a few hours the air-conditioning did not work and only produced a feeble blow. This did not get resolved during our stay. One of the doors failed to open which meant we got locked outside but did get fixed after it was reported. An electrical box was left open to the elements by the pool, this was ignored by staff for the first few days until I reported it due to the health and safety issues and the potential power issues if it rained. Our pool was large and at a bearable temperature, strangely it was cooler than the sea. It was however extremely clogged up with sand on arrival and the pool pump made a terrible clunking noise. We asked for someone to clean this which took a few days. This was the only time during our stay anyone cleaned the pool. Each day we asked housekeeping to come whilst we were at breakfast to service the room. Most days this happened but a couple of days they failed to arrive when called. On one occasion we returned to our room to find the door wide open and no one inside. When housekeeping returned (10 minutes later) we were not challenged nor asked to prove this was our room. Housekeeping was ok. Evening turndown was not good, we only got evening turndown on two occasions. There were a few unexpected costs which we did not expect for a 5-star resort. You get one bottle of drinking water per day and then need to pay for any additional water. There is also a charge for each coffee you use with the in-room coffee machine. For those people who appreciate a reasonable internet connection (yes I know we are on holiday so why worry about internet) it was a very bad connection, basically unusable most of the time. I gave up checking email many times as it was just so painful. As a positive it will force you not to work whilst on vacation. We were both subject to a significant amount of mosquito bites during the stay. This seemed quite common as most guest’s legs were covered in bites. During our stay, we did not see the report spray the grounds which tends to be common for other resorts that suffer with mosquitoes. Maybe as it is part of a nature reserve they are not allowed to do this, so as a word of warning bring lots of insect replant and spray. Service – Service was very inconsistent. At the al-la-carte restaurant and main bar it was very good and did feel like a 5-star experience. The staff acknowledged you once they knew you, made conversation, anticipated needs and went beyond to make sure the experience was great. For the rest of the resort the service was very average and far from special. When you asked for something it was delivered but there was no attempt to anticipate needs or make guests feel special as many good 5-star resorts strive to do. In a couple of instances service was shocking and I felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff asking for something. On several occasions, we went to the recreation desk to find it completely unstaffed and had to leave. Recreation – The main pool was nice; however, this was also dirty and did not seem to get cleaned that often. The gym was one of the best I have found at a 5-star resort, very well equipped. Tennis was good although you do have to buy your own balls from the gift shop. You could obtain snorkelling gear, but a word of warning they seem to run out very quickly so if you don’t go first thing you won’t get anything, also we did not see any of the equipment cleaned, whilst we waited a snorkel and mask were returned and simply placed back on the shelf. We did the botanical walk each day, this is a very pleasant walk across the island on a hard surface which we enjoyed. As a few people, have commented in reviews the scenery can be off-putting in places with derelict buildings bit to be honest it think it makes a change from looking at trees. You do also encounter guests who have hired a buggy for the day zooming up and down this walk, presumably they felt it was a bit of an off-roading experience. The guest buggy hire can also be annoying if you enjoy walking to the restaurants in the evening, on several occasions a guest in a buggy zoomed around a corner to fast and nearly hit us. We also did one of the hotel led island walks (two hours), this was not a walk but more of a hike and climb with the leader heading out at a very fast pace leaving a few people lagging way back. Considering the walk is along high rock ledges and involves some awkward climbing the health and safety of this was non-existent, if we had fallen the guide would not have known as he was way off in the distance. We also did a local island tour to see the turtles, the boat ride was pleasant and on arrival we were dumped on the beach and then left by the hotel without a word. However, the tour of the island was very nice. We met a couple who did the snorkelling trip, they told us the boat was overfull and cramped, the staff then realised after setting out they did not have enough equipment for everyone. The hotel grounds are fantastic, very well kept and a pleasure to walk around. Restaurants – Breakfast was exceptionally average. This was our biggest disappointment. There was a good-sized selection of breads, fruit, cooked and cold meats and an egg station (no al-la carte option). However, the food was not very warm, and on a few days even tasted and looked old. It also seemed practice not to refresh tablecloths as many mornings we were faced with someone else’s breakfast stains Service was efficient and functional but lacked anything personal or special. We tended to have to seat ourselves and gain attention to ask for coffee or tea some mornings. For evening dining, you can either eat the main buffet or one of the two al-la-carte restaurants. We found out on many evenings they hold private functions so the al-la-carte restaurants are closed to other guests. Out of our seven evenings the al-la-carte options were closed two nights this left you with the buffet option only which is not fine dining or worthy of a 5+star rating. The main restaurant buffet had a large selection and looked to change each day. The quality of the food was good and services again was functional, this was just not a fine dining experience but was good as far as buffets go. The al-la-carte is very nice, very good service and nice food. Bhawani, one of the staff made the experience special which was appreciated The experience is a 5-star dining experience and is the main redeeming feature of the resort. My wife is vegetarian and we were disappointed that there was no vegetarian menu. However, the chef was good and did offer to make something for my wife each night. There was a reasonable wine list and menu for meat eaters, especially if you love seafood. We did not order from room service, looking at the menu it is a very limited choice with basically a burger, pizza or snack of the day, this may be as the main format for dining is buffet. The bar has a very good selection of drinks, and in general the service there was very good. In the evening, they had a singer, this was very good and pleased that it ended at eleven each night as our room was next to the reception / bar so that could have been frustrating with the noise. The price of food and minibar were in line with other resorts. The mini bar contents is very basic with a few soft drinks and two beers, again not what you expect from a 5-star, but this did help my diet in not being able to pick at snacks. Checkout – This was as painful as check-in with only one person on the reception desk. Whilst in the middle of a conversation the desk phone kept ringing, at which point the receptionist picked up the phone mid conversation with me to deal with the call. This happed three times during my ten-minute check out process. The thing that stuck with me is that there was at no time any question on how my stay was and if I enjoyed the resort. A mixed stay, the resort is set in a beautiful location with some great facilities. The service and experience is just not a 5+ star experience.

"Improved customer service and overall experience"

   12-03-2017
We came back to Sainte Anne resort together with my husband in March 2017. As we were returners, it was interesting for us to see the changes that were made since last time. And the changes were quite obvious for us. As the management has changed, so did the level of the hospitality and customer service. it is a striking difference to discover! With Angelo at the top, you can really both feel and see the differences being done in various aspects of the hotel management. Since the minute you enter the waiting area where you embark the boat to the island, you are welcomed by a smiling and glad personnel. We were greeted by Steve, who picked us up, sailed with us to the island, checked us in and showed us around. Since that time, literary everyone who works there, were saying "hi", "hello", "good day" or just smiled to us. What a difference can a smile make! Especially on a rainy day, which we had unfortunately a lot of, due to the recent cyclone in Mauritius. The physical changes include: - the opening of one more bar at Grand Anse, - the towel change system (you can pick up your own beach towel at several places around the territory of the hotel and drop them either where you stay or at your villa and they will remove them and change into new ones), - the cleaning services are much better (the bed is made twice a day- in the daytime and for the night), - visible safety on the coastline (guards at the beach area). The overall positive experience is strongly backed up by a dynamic and very attentive super team of the restaurant personnel. Starting with a young and ambitious restaurant manager, Neeraj, who inspired the whole team to a world-class customer service and created a wonderful atmosphere of an evening tropical charm and followed up by a well-educated and very polite team of waiters, it leaves you with a smile on your face at the end of the day and the feeling that you have to come back. Bhawani, a very positive and open restaurant supervisor, was very attentive to our every need and made us feel like we are home, we didn't only get a fantastic food, but were treated very personally and entertained by the stories about his home country, culture and cuisine. One of the waiters, Sudipta, had such a wonderful sense of humour that he made us laugh many times and felt like we found a family on that island. He even decorated our table with flowers on our last day there that he gathered himself during the day. Such a positive and caring attitude to the clients! Last, but not least, the food. If you travel for culinary escapes, this is the place for you! The master chef Hans Makoondee, is creating each time a masterpiece, completely new and exciting. The combination of flavours, textures and products is amazing. The creativity is on top and he is the reason why you choose his restaurants (Le Mont Fleuri and le Robinzon) over the all-inclusive self-catering buffet. I would like to personally say Thank you very much to all of you, guys, for treating us like royals. I don't think Prince William and Dutchess Catherine would have been treated differently. Thank you for making us feel at home, thank you for the feeling that we have got a family at Sainte Anne. We look very much forward to come back to Sainte Anne next year. Sincerely, Julia + Kasper.

"Terrible customer service"

   09-03-2017
Haven't stayed at this hotel but reviewing my experience in dealing with them. Booked in Feb 17 for July 17 holiday but had to cancel a few days after booking. Hotel charged my card anyway for the full stay a few days after the reservation although it was not an advanced payment booking, just a regular booking cancellable without restrictions or penalties. Have been trying to get my money back for the last 3 weeks but unsuccessful so far. Poor response from reservation department. Avoid if you care about your money.

"Luxury and Peace"

   27-02-2017
We stayed in beach facing Pool Villa and it was bliss. It is a private island resort, where you can enjoy and relax at your own pace. You can do snorkelling, chill at beach, visit Moyenne island, do nature trails, enjoy in the pool, etc.
