Het groene en tropische 'specerijeneiland' Zanzibar voor de kust van Tanzania is 86 km lang en 39 km breed. Het eiland is een ideale verlenging na een rondreis door Tanzania.

Situated on Zanzibar’s picturesque North East coast, overlooking the turquoise Indian Ocean, it is as the name suggests a little piece of paradise. At Ocean Paradise Resort Zanzibar, you will be greeted by a blaze of colour as you sweep down the imposing driveway, saluted by a Masai warrior as you pass through the entrance gate and be captivated as you arrive in reception and look out over the resort and the azure blue sea. Mature coconut palms swinging in the breeze, white sandy beach, beautiful landscaped gardens, traditional style round chalets with pitched makuti roof, a stunning waterfall feature and the largest swimming pool in Zanzibar are just some of the sights that await you. A big smile and the greeting of "Jambo" will be the first words you hear, as you begin to feel the warmth that the people of Zanzibar are famed for. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious. The beach offers fine white sands. We had low tide every day from 11 am to 4 pm so swiming in the ocean is not possible only if you decide to walk at least 30 minutes to get to the deep water. At low tide it forms a wide band of white that runs out to the seaweed farms and, finally, to the deep water channel and the barrier reef. We decided to take a local guide to explore the reef and we had a nice experience. You need to have special shoes and to take care because there are a lot of sea urchins. I attached photos to show you why the resort is Called "paradise". We had a wonderful holiday and we will come back!

"Love it here"

We were here for about 4 nights and we loved our stay here. Every night during dinner time there was a different performing group. The food in the evening also features a different cuisine. Breakfast is from 7am to 10am and dinner is 7:30pm to 10pm. We didn't do any tours here as we came here from our week of safari so we just relaxed and enjoyed the beaches here. There is a strip of souvenir shops just south of us (walk on the beaches and head south). On our 2nd day, my wife received a lot of bite marks from insects (she didn't put bug repellent that evening). There was a local doctor on duty who prescribed medicine to her, all this was free. Overall, we had a great experience and love it.

"Staff at the heart of the resort"

The location on Kiwengwa beach is very pleasant, whilst the sea does go out a long way every day, the management have responded to feedback on seaweed and a team try to clear this every morning. Furthermore, at low tide you can walk out onto the reef and see the red-knobbed starfish. The rooms are lovely, authentic building materials and furnishings, comfortable beds and large balconies; the cleaning staff left the rooms immaculate and also turned down beds and sprayed mosquito repellent in the evenings. It's a buffet system for meals and we found breakfast and the theme nights for dinner offered sufficient variety (we don't normally opt for half board). We did try out the Mawindi Restaurant and ordered the fish platter (mainly for the lobster), whilst we enjoyed the food, later in the week there was an 'Ocean night' in the main restaurant with unlimited lobster! We also visited the spa; it's not cheap but we opted for a couples massage and facial which was a pleasant experience enhanced by access to the sauna (steam room was broken) and jacuzzi. The gym is small, but adequate if you are an experienced user, and we visited a few times. However, what really made this resort (as mentioned by many other people) was the excellent service in general and with some notable members of staff who really went the extra mile to ensure our holiday was perfect :- Pramod (Food & Beverage Manager) a real hospitality professional, he took the time at every meal to check we were happy with our table/food, also he quickly solved a couple of problems with our safe and outside light when we first arrived, and made recommendations for additional things to do and see beyond what was available in the hotel; Grace and Boazi (Restaurant staff) always ready with a smile and super efficient, Joseph & Hassan (Animation team) friendly, enthusiastic and responsive to requests for activity, Ellie (Customer Relations) always on hand checking we were enjoying your stay.

Set on the eastern side of the island away from the main city alongside white coral palm fringed beaches. The resort is built into the side of a hill with the main areas, reception, shop etc at the higher level and the pool, pool bar and restaurant on the lower beach area. A smaller bar with large projected TV screen is also situated on the top level. The grounds are very well maintained and there appeared to be an army of workers running and maintaining the resort. Food was excellent with a wide choice, and several theme nights including Indian, Chinese and Italian food. Staff were friendly and always happy to assist wherever possible. Rooms were huge, appointed with a large double bed, TV, Mini bar, kettle with tea and coffee making facilities, bottkled water provided daily and an en-suite area which seemed to go on forever. There was always plenty of hot water. Each room had a large balcony with seats.

"Wow and double wow"

Look at all the great reviews and it's all true so i won't bore you with more gushing. No real complaints but a couple of observations but whatever I say still go there it is wonderful. The steps about 72 and no hand rail not my favourite. We were lucky our room was by the sea and the pool so we only had to do the steps once a day for breakfast. We found out on day before last that there is a golf cart so you can avoid the steps, however we ordered it for our check out day and it never turned up so can't comment if it's good or not. Have to say it wasn't mentioned anywhere and seemed a bit of a secret. The seaweed. Yes it's there and no it didn't bother me I just walked through it and then the waters fine. Every morning there was some poor guy clearing it up. The traders hassling. Again didn't really bother me just be firm and carry on with what your doing, also my friend went to see the reef and hired a guide, he saw loads of stuff and my other friend went on their own, they saw nothing and were very disappointed, so maybe it's a good thing that these people are on the beach. Wifi. Yes well it's not that good, the bar wifi is better than the room one you have to pay for so don't bother. But here's a thought don't bother looking at your emails and enjoy this wonderful bit of paradise 😎 TOP TIP all inclusive is from 10am to 11pm it is written but not in big letters so you will be charged if you get stuff later or earlier than those hours. Finally just a quick thanks to virgin holidays we went as a safari then this hotel package when we walked in because we were with virgin we were given free wifi and a free massage and I have to say having a back rub for 30 mins after a safari was pure joy, they were very good in the spa, if your going put it on your list of things to do.
