"A special place"

This was our first safari and we loved it from start to finish. The team work hard to attend to every detail from a personal transfer from the airport and throughout each stage of the day. The "tents" are lovely and some wildlife sightings are possible from your own balcony. The hospitality is generous, theoretically you could eat five times a day but there is not much opportunity for exercise so beware! There is a maximum of 20 guests and getting to know some of them added to our enjoyment of the holiday. We loved the dining experiences, there is a lot of choice. The food isn't haute cuisine but it is tasty, thoughtfully prepared and well presented. The safari drives were completely amazing. I am sure all the guides are good but ours (Chris) was absolutely terrific. He knew so much about the animals, birds and terrain and shared his knowledge with such passion that it really added to our enjoyment. He was keen for us to see as much as possible and we absolutely loved the drives. I highly recommend a visit here.

We stayed three nights at this magical place. Words do not do it justice. The staff are so kind and welcoming we felt at home. Great food and wines all served with love. The tents are amazing with large bed, freestanding bath and glass walled shower. At times the wildlife was easy to see from our balcony. Our guide, Ben and our tracker, Sonny were a great team and found us so many wonderful places to view all the game. A safari at 6am and then 4.30pm sounds exhausting but believe me it is truly wonderful and worth it. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We would love to go back one day!

"The highlight of our honeymoon!"

Words can't describe how amazing this place is! We stayed for 4 nights, on arrival we had an 2 hours before the game drive, they served lunch late so we could eat and settle in before we headed out. Staff - All of the staff are so friendly, happy and kind. Jessica greeted us and dealt with organising day trips for us. We felt at ease immediately, and nothing seemed a problem. She was so kind and very funny! Safari - We saw the big 5 within 3 days, amongst other animals and insects. Our ranger Huncho (cant remember if that is spelt right) was very informative, his tracker was very good too. We even got to see a dung beetle (i was very happy about this!) Both of them made the drives so much fun and nothing was ever a problem. Rooms - The rooms/tents are outstanding. It has everything you could ever wish for, and the beds are so comfy. We both have never slept so well! We had a complimentary bottle of wine as it was our honeymoon which was a lovely touch. Food - The food is first class, some usual dishes (fillet steak etc) but also some local dishes, which was nice to try, and delicious! Every other night you eat outside by the fire and sit on group tables with everyone from you game drive, including the ranger. We loved this, the food and the style was really refreshing. Trips - Elephant experience - Amazing! I will say it doesn't last very long, but is worth every single penny. You get to meet the elephants up close and feed them. They explain why they look after them, what your money goes towards, and a little about the elephants themselves. We are very animal conscious, and I love the idea of this sanctuary. These elephants will never be able to live without human contact, but they still have access to the whole of the reserve, should they wish to go off. Endangered Species trip - Again a definite must do! This is a safari style ride in a jeep. This was so informative, and very sad at the same time. We got to see cheetas, which they are doing a breeding programme of, and they are released in the wild when grown. We also saw rhinos up close, who were rescued from poachers. There were a few other animals, birds, etc. We loved this place, my only gripe would be our guide wasn't very happy. It seemed like it was a chore for her to take us around. However we still loved it! Spa - I can't remember what spa package we done but we had a facial each, foot massage and lunch. The spa is at River Lodge which is about 20 mins drive in the reserve. The setting is stunning, the pool overlooks a waterhole. There was a hippo in the water who would pop up every now and then. The staff weren't as friendly as at buffalo lodge. They weren't rude, but just not as personal or happy as we had experienced at our lodge. Overall, we absolutely loved this place. Kapama has stolen our hearts and we can not wait to return one day!

Kapama has the best service that you can imagine!!!! Since they pick us up at the airport the details and attention never stopped! I would recommend this lodge to everyone. It is a very personal lodge with a maximum capacity of 20 guests and you will receive all the attention!!! =) It is also across the street of the Hoedspruit Airport so that's also a PLUS. Oh, and alcoholic beverages are included!!! Be prepared to be pampered all the time. <3

"Luxury Tent Lodge: 5 star on everything!"

We booked Buffalo lodge on recommendation from a friend and colleague and we weren't disappointed. Lodge: The Lodge is on the Kapama reserve were there are other choices for accommodation; we heard the Southern Camp (where you can visit for the gym services) has a pool over looking a watering hole, so you get more interaction and wildlife viewings throughout the day. It's a larger hotel so we wanted something a little more personal. The tents are amazing at Buffalo lodge; lot's of space, private balcony and a great glass view shower to look out at nature. There are 10 tents in total all named after animals, so the view you get will differ - while it's thick bush, you will see Monkeys and Impala's around the lodge. Onsite there's a small but relaxing pool, breakfast area, fire pit dinner area, bar and lobby seating. Very personal surrounding and easy to just rest in your room, the pool area of the lobby area with comfortable seating. Staff: The Staff are great, they are attentive and get to learn about you and your favourite drinks as there are only 10 rooms. Tinah, Belief, Shakes, Godfrey were all good to us, easy to talk to and will stay at the bar in the evening until you are ready to call it a night. Jessica who greeted us and checked us in was lovely and easy going; she'll take care of any bookings you want; such as additional excursions and bush walks. Ben & Sunny: Our driver and tracker - they made the Safari for us; informative, funny, uplifting and hard working. They worked well as a team and you really do see their expertise come in when tracking animals for us to view (one day taking 2 hours to track elephants - it was so great when we finally saw them, makes it feel like a worth while trip - no one wants to turn a corner and see everything straight away...if you want that go to the Zoo!). They wanted to make sure we saw all the big 5 and worked hard to track, work with other trackers and head to areas we needed to see them - including swappingr safari areas with neighbouring trackers. Safari: Amazing, this was my second time on Safari and the bush was a lot thicker and greener - meaning less open landscape surroundings to see animals in the distance, though there were those areas also. This meant a lot of the time when you did see animals they had to be close to the road tracks, which often they were crossing. It also meant when your tracker spotted something, you saw how skilled they were to see an animal well hidden in the bush. We saw the big 5 in our first 2 drives (we had 8 in total). A couple of drives we not productive - but that's the risk with safari trips, you are not guaranteed to see all the animals. Safari Trucks: It's worth checking out what transport you'll be driven around in - ours holds 9 people max and most of the time there were only 4 of us. It's open top with tied height seating, meaning where ever you sit you'll get the same view as everyone else. Our booking included all meals and drinks - and you won't be disappointed. A couple of nights you'll do a buffer dinner where you can experience some meats you probably haven't eaten before. And at this lodge you driver will join you for dinner - which makes it a nicer touch to learn about their journey and what it takes to be a driver/tracker. There's also a few little extra touches on the drive, which I won't spoil the surprise for you - you'll have to go to find out for yourselves!
