As many have mentioned the rooms are really lovely. We had rooms with a terrace outside and it was peaceful. The pool is very nice and welcome on a hot day! In contrast to other reviews we did not feel that we were warmly welcomed. A voucher that we did not have was asked for. This was strange because all the other places we stayed whichever were booked through the same agency never once asked for any voucher, they simply welcomed us. We were offered the hotel dinner. It did not meet our needs and no other dinner options were suggested. However we found something for ourselves easily enough. Breakfast the next morning was good but the server seemed to have too much to cover so the service suffered as a result. During breakfast a man who seemed to be the owner or manager walked through many times, always with a scowl or at least an unhappy face, and did not smile at or interact with guests at all. Strange! A lovely place but for us the staff let things down.
"4th Visit and still as special"
Beautiful room with a lovely terrace looking out to the mountains, wonderful host and hostess, great creative dining - really don't bother to eat dinner anywhere else, and wonderful wines from the Mimosa's own range. And Montagu is the sweetest of places, full of history with lovely things to fill the days near at hand that the hotel will happily book for you - try a picnic floating along the Breede River to name but one.
"A quaint lodge in picturesque Montagu"
Our room was in a quiet little courtyard across the street from the main building, located in a quiet side street. The furniture/decoration was quaint but comfortable and pleasant. And we had an excellent dinner in the Lodge's own restaurant. We had only booked for one night but would have gladly stayed longer if time had allowed it.
"Oasis in Karoo Desert"
We had a wonderful stay in this autentic family resort in Montagu. Don't miss to book a table for dinner. They provide a very creative kitchen with swiss influence and wonderful wines from the own vignard.
"The Warmest Welcome - Ever!"
We enjoyed an absolutely idyllic two night stay at the Mimosa Lodge. Montague is an absolutely charming dorpie - full of history, beautiful architecture and an abundance of colour from wonderful gardens. The Mimosa Lodge is located right in its heart. Of all the hotels, in all the counties all over the world that we have stayed in, we have never enjoyed a welcome like we had at the Mimosa. Bernie - mein host - greeted us individually by name the minute that we walked in. He made us feel like we were super special guests. No sycophancy - just wonderful hospitality. We stayed in the very last two garden cottages, and they were stunning. The decor is minimalist Africa and very tasteful. The cool concrete floors and the air conditioning were a welcome respite from the nudging 42 degree C mercury. The beds were large - real South African size - and the bathrooms were similarly large, but very well thought out. There was lots of space for toilet bags, and also a full length mirror. Outside, we enjoyed stunning views of the mountains and borders of blooming white roses. There were sun loungers at the front of each room, but there was lots of space between rooms. The smell of herbs as you walked past the planter boxes was wonderful - the aroma carried on the breeze. The gardens are an absolute tonic - nooks and crannies of greenery, flowers, chairs, stone lamps, beautiful birds - we loved them all. The outdoor pool is small, but also very well designed. It is beautifully maintained and well protected from the wind by lovely trees. To sit in the corner of the pool enjoying the last licks of sunshine on a late afternoon was such a pleasure. The pool is small, so you need to be prepared to share. During our stay there was a large family group who tended to take over the whole area, but that is going to happen when it's a small pool. We came later in the day when they were generally finished, so it wasn't too much of a problem. Dining at the Mimosa was a real treat. Morning breakfast was fresh, with an excellent array of cold meats (presented in a very hygienic and Germanic style), cheeses and freshly baked bread and pastries. Eggs are cooked any way you like, and the Boerewors is very nicely spiced. The five course fixed evening dinner was an absolute highlight. Imaginative dishes and combinations delivered with flair. The Mimosa Boutique wines can also be pared with courses which gives it a totally unique spin. We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights of 'dining in'. There were only two niggles during our stay. One was the state of the communal television room which was located next to the pool. (My cricket mad husband HAD to keep up). Unlike the rest of the Lodge, it was not clean. The sofas had big and multiple stains, as did the beige carpet - not pretty. There was also a problem with noise. One little boy was watching children's programmes completely alone, but the volume was almost at maximum. He was not supervised, but when his parents did come along, they did not turn the volume down. Such a pity to spoil such an idyllic spot with the sounds of Cartoon Network! Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mimosa Lodge. During the day, we did the Historical Walk around the village, and we also visited the Joubert House. It was a very interesting little trip and gives you a real feel of what Montague is all about. Bernie and Ishad - we can't wait to see you again. It was simply wonderful.
