We were staying in Wendy's Country Lodge for three nights and took the three course dinner every evening. We've liked the food very much! We've done both trips, the hosts offered, one hippo tour to St. Lucia and a game drive. All the recommendations about activities were perfect. The hosts, Jenny and Gavin, are indescribable familiar and ran the bar every evening. It gives a very nice atmosphere and lead to the best stay in South Africa so far. Big thanks for all!
"The friendliest lodge in Kwazulu Natal"
We stayed at Wendys for 10 days, partly connected with my wife's work and partly on holiday. The accommodation was very comfortable and the amenities very good; all the meals were very nice and the service excellent. We did two safari drives led by Lourwina which were quite excellent - she knew what to look for and pointed out all sorts of very interesting things. But above all it was the really friendly reception which we received from the owners Gavin and Jen which made this a very special time for us. They made a real effort to get to know us and to try to help us make the most of our time in the area. The times spent in the bar before dinner chatting with them and the other guests were really special and memorable. Outstanding and very highly recommended. Phil and Margaret May - Bristol UK
"fantastic, very friendly, welcoming and very helpful"
As the first place we stayed in south africa, this was a wonderful introduction to the country, we were greeted with wide smiles and the offer of drinks as we filled out a few details. The rooms (we stayed in two of them) were very comfortable, clean and well stocked with everything you would expect from a hotel. The owners (Jenny and Gavin) were so friendly, and joined us for drinks each evening in the bar/ lounge, nothing was too much trouble, and they were invaluable in offering advice and guidance on what to do, where to visit etc, and certainly not pushy with anything (e.g., we drove ourselves around the game parks, rather than take a game drive, and at no point felt like they were biased either way) we felt as though we were their friends by the time we left, even though we only stayed 2 nights!! the setting is beautiful, with a really fantastic tropical garden all through, full of exotic trees and plants, fastidiously maintained by a couple of gardeners, who i think have outdone themselves! the lodge is situated in a very quiet gated community, and gives you a real sense of security. Game drives (and other experiences such as sea fishing) can be arranged any time with a chat with jenny and gavin, (who actually live on site) and are usually run by gavin himself, or another of the lovely senior staff if he is not available. these run straight from the lodge, and although we didn't go on one, we heard really great things from he other guests staying there. The food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast, and the staff very attentive and smiley too. this was such a wonderful introduction to south african hospitality, and i would recommend a stay to anyone, we had a great time, and we will definitely come back if we ever visit SA again! thanks so much for a really great time
"So different - so wonderful!"
What a quaint, lovely place! Thank you for the warm welcome we received at Wendy's! Nothing is too much trouble for Louwrina and she went out of her way to make sure we were informed of what there was to do in the area and made sure we were comfortable and had everything that we needed. The rooms are spotlessly clean and we were totally comfortable. The dinner was superb as was the breakfast. We highly recommend Wendy's as a place to stay to use as a base to explore the surrounding area. We would definitely return!
"Best kept secret! "
We experienced the very best of South African hospitality staying at Wendy's Country Lodge. Makes you realise what is important in life and it's definitely not material things. Didn't feel the need to watch TV. WiFi signal was great. Loved the socialising with other guests at the bar and hearing about their experiences on their day trips. One group were heading off on the wilderness trail in iMfolozi which Gavin had recently done with his son. Gavin's expert knowledge of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park didn't disappoint. All the time pointing out and explaining the behaviour of the animals with his infectious sense of humour. We saw two lion kills with different prides and about 150-200 elephant passing through the waterhole at the hide. This place is a perfect place to stay. Especially for getting the lowdown on where to go and what to see. Sunsets over St Lucia were stunning. Good area for spotting bird life up close. We also saw Egyptian fruit bats and Samongo monkeys. All the staff were friendly. Their love for the area just rubs off on you. Lowrena was so passionate about the Isimangaliso area. Showing us the various ants nests, spoor, dung beetle and explaining all about the conservation of the area. Thoroughly enjoyed that day trip. We felt very safe at Wendy's. I even left my camera bag in the open game truck overnight and it was still there in the morning. I wish we could have stayed longer as there is so much to see in the Isimangaliso area. The food was so delicious. Cooked to perfection. I follow a low carb lifestyle and the food was just perfect for me. Thanks Jenny and Gavin for a memorable stay.
