Protea Breakwater Lodge ziet er uit als een fort; het deed in de 19e eeuw dan ook dienst als gevangenis. Nu is er de lodge en een 'Business School' gevestigd en heerst er een levendige sfeer. Stonebreakers restaurant en Time-Out Café horen bij de lodge en zijn plaatsen waar studenten, locals en hotelgasten zich mengen. De lodge behoort bij de Protea hotelketen en heeft keurige, comfortabele kamers. Met de familiekamers en de gevestigde kids play room is deze accommodatie ook zeer geschikt voor kinderen.

De mooiste stad van Afrika is prachtig gelegen aan de Tafelbaai. Geniet van de kleurrijke wijken, restaurants en bars, de Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, ga de Tafelberg op en wandel langs het strand in Camps Bay. Kaapstad is de ideale stad om het schiereiland en de wijnlanden te bezoeken. Neemt u voldoende de tijd, want er is zoveel te zien!

"Tiny rooms, not for leisure. "

Unfortunately my lasting memory of this place is the minuscule rooms and bed. Room would be fine if it was a single person traveling for business but not a couple with luggage about to start a 2 week trip around South Africa. I still can’t get over how small the room was, if one of us had a suitcase open on the floor there was literally no other way around other than over the (tiny) bed. Staff also leave a lot to be desired. Our check in agent gave the impression she was “too good to be doing this job”. We are now in the 3rd accommodation of our trip and have experienced nothing but amazing warm and friendly people in other places. I cannot say the same about Protea Breakwater. The only reason this is getting 3 stars instead of two is because of the location which was convenient for the V&A waterfront. This was a 5-10 min walk from the hotel. Hopefully we will return to Cape Town again in the future however we will not be staying at this hotel. Had I known about the Radisson Red V&A Waterfront at the time of booking I would have chosen it instead.

"Shocking customer relations"

We booked accommodation in Cape Town at two sister establishments: Protea Hotel Cape Town Waterfront Breakwater Lodge, and Protea Hotel Cape Town Victoria Junction. Unfortunately, these were both very unhappy experiences. Firstly, the booking at both establishments were messed up, despite the fact that I made it by phoning Marriot Australia, and was advised to book online. I made the booking, and stored the confirmation, but when I checked in to each establishment, I was charged a higher price than that originally quoted. I was told that the original quote was for one-person occupancy, so “someone” later “revised” the price… and I hadn’t “noticed” the change. At Breakwater Lodge, we also had the following problems: • the room was configured as a double instead of a twin, as booked and advised in advance, so it had to be re-arranged, after we checked in, late in the evening. • When I queried the amount we were charged, the receptionist asked me to “come downstairs” to sort it out, though it was late at night and we had just arrived on a late flight… • The shower was scalding hot – the mixer tap apparently did not mix cold water with the hot, at any position. • At breakfast, we were asked to pay on the spot at the restaurant - we couldn’t book it to the room – hardly the way to treat any booked-in guest, let alone a Marriot Member…. After this horrible experience, and after emailing the establishment twice (the first email was ignored) I was advised by the Assistant Front Office Manager that “I will share your feedback with the team to ensure this was an isolated issue and corrected moving forward.” There was absolutely no attempt to make amends to us, simply a perfunctory “thanks and goodbye….” Some days later, when we arrived at Victoria Junction to check in at about 3pm, we were again quoted a higher price than that originally quoted. When I showed the reception a copy of the confirmation (on my phone) it took about an hour for him to enquire with “Marketing” about why the price was different. • We were also told that the room wasn’t ready, and wouldn’t be ready for us for another two hours. This was highly inconvenient, because we had been met by our private guide and wanted to shower etc and depart of a tour. • While we were in Reception discussing these issues, there were SEVERAL other customers suffering the same delays, including a bride who had arrived from London for her wedding and who had been kept waiting in the Reception for three hours. • We booked alternative accommodation, and were advised by Reception that we would be charged a no-show penalty!!!! I had to insist on talking to the manager, for whom I had to wait a further 30 minutes…. Before he agreed to waive any cancellation fees.

"Good Family Hotel"

Stayed one night at this hotel and found the family room to be pleasant with four single beds. The bathroom is shared between the two rooms in the suite. Nice for parents or grand parents traveling with children. The check in and out process was very slow ... be prepared to use multiple credit cards as authorization for non ZA residents is a challenge. Multiple authorizations showing approved on credit card site would not print at hotel. This is not unique to this establishment.

"Definitely recommended!"

The location is simply perfect, you can walk to the waterfront in just a single minute. Flair´s nice and the staff are outstanding. Helpful and friendly, they accommodated every of our wishes; what more could you ask for?

Really nice and clean hotel at a historic location with very good, friendly and helpful staff. I always stay at this hotel when I visit Cape Town for business and have always had a very good experience.
