Over Victoria & Alfred Hotel

"Nice location"

Recently stayed in a king mountain view room. The rooms are clean, very spacious. and the view of table mountain was really nice. Maybe a bit outdated but the price was reasonable with full breakfast included. One thing to mention is that at night (all night) it was VERY noisy from all of the seagulls outside.

"Great location, facilities a bit limited"

We stayed here for a week. The hotel is in a great location on the waterfront. Gorgeous views and vibrant area. Rooms were well appointed and good size. Lovely bathrooms. In general the staff were very pleasant and helpful. A duty manager even took the trouble to walk us to our destination one evening when we were unsure of directions. The food quality is good and the breakfast buffet is excellent. For those having large late lunches on day tours, there isn't a great range of small savoury snack options on the menu when you get back to the hotel. Our requests for variations on the menu e.g. to have a beef sandwich rather than the beef salad or for an adult to have mini burgers from the kids menu were treated as problematic. We made three such requests over the course of a week and it was made clear that such requests were difficult to accommodate and required senior staff approval. Two requests were eventually approved but a dining room manager declined a request for mini burgers on the grounds the order was too small and we needed to spend more. This seems shortsighted given how much one spends in the hotel over the course of a stay. The clear impression was that staff seemed to think we were trying to save money and didn't understand that we just wanted something lighter to eat. Another downside is that the dining room is the only communal guest area with a bar tacked on one end and the coffee shop on the other. We visited in winter when it was too cold to sit outside so it was a bit cheerless at night sitting in a brightly lit deserted dining room. There is the option to walk over to the sister hotels up the hill nearby to use their spa and bar but in my view one shouldn't have to leave the hotel for access to what should be fairly standard facilities in a hotel of this calibre. Apart from these niggles, overall though it was a nice stay and the location is terrific.

"Great place, still...."

Went here first in 1994, for breakfast, and then again on my honeymoon. This time with wife and two kids. It remains excellent. Arrived to be supremely well looked after in the parking zone, with a space easily available just outside the hotel. Greeting outstanding. We were (very) early) but they ushered us through to an excellent lunch, and by the time we were finished, we had our rooms available. Very comfortable up in the loft space. Good beds. Great bathrooms. They booked us into a great boat trip out to see whales in the bay on a beautiful catamaran, with a significant discount from the rack rate. Breakfast was outstanding. Not sure if I have ever had a buffet with oysters available before, but I think its a great idea and should be adopted by others too. Super bacon, mushroom and cheese omelette. Would be our go-to destination for any stay in Cape Town going forward.

"Excellent "

We've stayed here before, and now consider it our first choice hotel in Cape Town. It's in the Waterfront which is a brilliant location. Step outside after your delicious breakfast (hot food cooked to order), and you're there! The hotel has had an upgrade since our last visit, and the new bathrooms with bath and walk-in shower have been beautifully installed. My only negative is that the carpets should also have been replaced. Hopefully, soon! The welcome on arrival was warm and friendly, and the staff were delightful. It's probably why we feel at home here. Ask for a window seat for breakfast or any meal. Look across the waterfront to Table Mountain, and watch the world go by as you tuck in. Lovely.

"Great Stay!"

We spent three nights here and loved every minute of it. The view was spectacular over the harbor and right up to Table Mountain. We could walk to restaurants, shopping, entertainment. Get the breakfast! It's wonderful and you won't need lunch. They were under construction when we were there but that didn't interfere with the hospitality or the comfort. I would stay there again without hesitation and I can't wait to go back.
