Over Victoria & Alfred Hotel

"Great Location & Staff"

   20-01-2017
We stayed here for four nights during our honeymoon. The hotel is ideally located for the Waterfront, Table Mountain and exploring the city. The staff were fantastic, and so helpful. they helped us to get tickets to the 7s, organise a hire car and recommend some great places to eat. The rooms are fairly basic, but if you're in Cape Town your not going to be spending much time there anyway as there's so much to see. Breakfast looking at Table Mountain, with seals playing in the dock is a real highlight.

"Lovely hotel at the wonderful waterfront area"

   20-01-2017
We had a stay for 3 nights to visit Cape Town and loved the location of the Victoria and Alfred hotel, situated in the middle of the tourist and port area.Although the main floor was under renovation we were welcomed very warmly; staff was very helpful to show us our room on the second floor. The room was spacious and offered all comfort we needed. We got a parking lot next to the entrance, safely stored with security around the hotel. Breakfast was in a building next to the hotel, because of the renovation of the main floor, but it was a very good breakfast. Because of that renovation guests were offered every afternoon a drink in the breakfast building. Thanks for the hospitality, we would recommend this hotel and would choose it again when coming back.

"Mixed Cape Town Stay"

   17-01-2017
Have just returned from our Cape Town holiday, after staying 8 nights at the V&A hotel. Stayed in a Superior Loft room - granted it was a loft room but superior, not in my opinion. Where do I start; the room was very dated, with dark furniture & only two uncomfortable 'dining room style' chairs to sit on other than the bed; French doors showed a terrace with a hot tub - WOW we though until we realised the doors were screwed shut! The same doors had large gaps in the frame and on one particularly windy evening the curtains were billowing! Air con worked great, although quite noisy. Apparently there's a pillow menu - something we only found out when after 2 nights we asked for reception for a feather pillow, had to ask 3 times before eventually the pillow arrived. Our understanding is that the loft rooms are due to be refurbished this year - and they do need it. Sound proofing would be ideal as the location is perfect for sightseeing but lots of noise whether this is the local musicians/singers or the constant tooting of the taxis which where just outside our room, (302). Also the main access for staff to get to the floor is right outside and the doors do slam. We had breakfast included in our stay. Service was not great though and I'm not sure if this was down to the hotel being busy or staff training/knowledge as not only did we have to ask for basic things such as tea spoons but the order was never quite right. Didn't feel like a 4* hotel & a limited uninspiring menu. In addition no bar area as such, couple of bar stools and 2 sofas - feels like an after thought. All in all we would not stay here again as I object to paying the premium this hotel demands just for location.

"Two sides to the story..."

   13-01-2017
The location is wonderful but the hotel need work. The windows in the rooms need replacing as they are damaged and some are almost falling out. The restaurant is more like a cafe, than the standard you would expect in a hotel claiming 4*+ The menus are horrible and feel grubby, as do the tables. The restaurant service - with a couple of exceptions - is bad. This was the only place in our whole trip that we found bad service. There is no proper bar. The decor in the rooms is dreadful & depressing - you certainly don't want to spend any time in your room that you don't have to. The only reason I would ever stay there again is that you can use the wonderful facilities over the road at The Dock House. The pool, bar, garden and staff are fantastic. You would never guess from outside that this hidden gem exists behind the hedge... I was very, very disappointed with Victoria & Alfred main hotel.

"Nice place to go!"

   11-01-2017
V & A Waterfront is a nice place to go for lunch, dinner or just walk around. There you will find good restaurants, store and there is a very close mall for shopping. There is also an easy parking place. I went for a dinner and enjoyed the sunset and it was worth it!
