Over Victoria & Alfred Hotel
Insiders tipOp loopafstand vindt u Ginja. Dit nieuwe en moderne restaurant biedt mooie gerechten en een nog mooier uitzicht op de Tafelberg.

"My Best Experience on Waterfront !"
I was very surprised from checkin to checkout. This hotel is a great place at a good price . My fourth visit to CapeTown and this is the hotel I would recommend . The room was very nice and appeared brand new . The room was cleaned each day asap. And best of all a terrific view of the harbor , seals and Table Mountain! I think the price was actually lower here than my previous trips, and this was a definite upgrade all around . Free wifi . Maybe a few extra channels on the TV would be nice, but the available was ok .
"Great location but slightly disappointing"
This hotel has everything going for it - great location, superb views. However, my stay here left me feeling disappointed and let down. The charge per night is breathtaking. Consequently one expects the best. Sadly the best was not what I experienced. My wife and I had arranged pick up at the airport with the hotel. We were met on time at 0740 and quickly whisked to the hotel, arriving about 25 minutes later. Note the cost is R650 - taxi is cheaper at about R350. On arrival, we were not able to check in which was not surprising. However, the hotel had contacted us several days beforehand asking about our arrival time. Telling them that we would arrive about 0900 did no good. Free breakfast while we waited? Not a chance, not even a free cup of tea or coffee. We were able to dump our bags and wander around the waterfront area. We were told a room might be ready at noon. We returned soon after only to be told the people in the room allocated to us had not yet checked out and it would be a long time before it was ready. Instead we were given a different but supposedly similar room at about 1235. The room, 117, was superb, with wonderful views of the harbour and Table Top mountain. We had a huge king size bed with heavy duvet. There was a safe, minibar and tea/coffee making facilities. The room had two easy chairs overlooking the window. The window was large and opened. There was also a desk and chair. A flat screen tv was mounted on the wall and was intended to be seen from the bed. There was lots of storage space, including a large wardrobe with removable hangers. There was also an iron and ironing board. Although there were two bedside tables, there was no drawer and there was storage space on the top only, though a lot of that area was covered by a bedside light. This light was sufficient to read by in bed. However the room had no central light or standard lamp, meaning if you wanted to read when it was dark outside then you had to go to bed! There was a separate WC. The bathroom had a large walk-in shower, bath and double wash basin. Toiletries included shower gel, conditioner, bath salts, shampoo and body lotion. Strangely, there were no power points in the bathroom so I had to shave myself by the desk. This was not easy even though there was a mirror over the desk. The water was always hot and plentiful. Towels were replaced daily even though we hung them up. Coffee and tea were replenished daily except once. On that day we telephoned that we had no normal or decaffeinated coffee. We were soon bought two decafs and one decaf coffee filter, no normal coffee and we did not have a coffee filter machine! Two days out of the six we were there, we received two tiny biscuits. Most nights we had a turn down service when two water bottles were left and sometimes a chocolate each on the pillow. Breakfasts were excellent albeit with variable levels of service. Breakfast started at 0630. However, there was not always a hostess there until a few minutes later. We believe she was supposed to take the room number and show the guests to a table. Most days we had to seat ourselves and were asked for our room number several times. There was hot and cold food available. However, we were only asked twice if we wanted anything cooked. The cold buffet comprised a good wide range of fresh fruit, five different juices, cereals, cold meats, yoghurt, cheese, bread. Once we were offered toast. Most days we had to ask for tea spoons. One day we had to search out somebody to place a tea and coffee order. Although there seemed many staff, there seemed no set pattern to who did what or dealing with the guests. It did not look good to see food remains on the floor from the previous evening. Wifi was reliable and reasonably fast. The location of the hotel was excellent. We felt very safe, there were lots of security guards in the area. There were lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk. We were five to ten minutes walk away from the HO-HO buses. Sadly at reception when I checked out, I was dealt with a lady who was very surly and almost rude. No pleasantries. No did I have a good time. We were surveyed on the penultimate night by the hotel and mentioned some of the minor faults, We got the strong impression that the hotel did not want to know about anything negative.. It gives the impression of not caring and not wanting to improve. All in all, a great hotel but with several unnecessary inconsistencies. There needs to be a greater attention to detail.
"Excellent accommodation in a great location"
We enjoyed 3 nights in a Mountain View room and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The room was very well appointed and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in an excellent location with many sights and facilities right nearby. It is not Asian luxury standard but then very few hotels are however we did not want for anything. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Breakfast was excellent. We would happily return if the opportunity arises.
Check in was quick the two members for staff were lovely. Our room was on the second floor over looking the Plazza some reviews say its a bit noisy on this side but we didn't have any problems, the room was spacious and well appointed. The hotel is right in the centre of town with lots of fantastic restaurants, great shopping, boat trips etc and no need for a car. The hotel does not have a swimming pool but you are allowed to use the pool at there adjacent hotel just across the road, for anyone with walking problems or wheelchairs there are stairs or slopes to contend with, its a small but nice pool to have a dip and we had no problem getting a sun bed even though there are not that many. On check in we asked if we could have a late check out on day of departure as we had an evening flight they made a note and said come back on the morning of departure, they were very good, explained that we couldn't keep that room but could move to another for a charge we were happy with that, they then sent the hotel porter to help us move which was great, our new room was on the first floor, on the other side of the hotel with the views of table mountain and the harbour so we got two different aspect which was great. The down side, four days previous we sat outside to have a drink and watch the world go by, not realising this was the V and As bar restaurant, service was a long time coming when it did we ordered a bottle of wine we waited the server arrived with two glasses for us to sample spilling that as he came we said yes he disappeared again and again we waited, 20mins he then comes with the wine and explains they had to go to there sister hotel across the road as they had run out if this had been explained we would have ordered a different bottle. So now we are staying at the hotel having breakfast which is include in our rates there was a lovely assortment everything you could want cooked breakfast was to order we ordered and guess what we are asking 15minutes later where our breakfast is as people who arrived after us have got theres, then another 20mins later we call over the assistant manager as still no breakfast, so you can guess where i am going with this, yes service in this restaurant was very poor for us.
"Another faultless stay"
The same room as last year and it was still just as wonderful! Well maintianed and spacious, with a fantastic view of table mountain. The new Ginja restuarant is excellent for breakfast, lunch, dinner of just drinks.
