The Heritage Lodge and Spa is nestled right in the rainforest at Diwan yet is central to everything the Daintree has to offer. A 15-30 min drive gets you to most places of interest, and when your done exploring come back and relax, swim in the waterhole (or pool), take a hike up the creek bed, or have an in room massage (the spa building is under renovation). The restaurant isn't open every night so check with reception, however continental breakfast, tea, coffee, juice, cereal, toast, fruit & yogurt is available every morning until 9am. We were very impressed the night we ate in the restaurant "On the Turps", the steaks were cooked to perfection and the strawberry sorbet and chocolate dessert was to die for. The accommodation is a little tired but the rooms are spacious and clean with comfortable beds. Each cabin has its own balcony and air-conditioning. (Not splits or ducted, but they work just fine) Our room had 2 extra beds we could have done without but it didn't really matter as we didn't spend that long in the room anyway. Anthony on reception was lovely and very helpful, as were all the staff we dealt with. Staying here was a real experience and we were pleased we did. The only negative was the mosquitos and our insect repellent just didn't cut it but that was the case wherever we went in the Daintree.
"Wonderful Meal in Rainforest Setting"
Our transport took us to this out of the way restaurant. It is set deep in the rainforest, I wonder how the manage to produce any meals let alone the one we had. I had Barramundi with a salad whilst my wife had beef steak. Both were well cooked and succulent. The fresh fruit for dessert was lovely and juicy. They also sell alcohol. I have been to far worse restaurants with easier surroundings to provide meals.
Stunning location! We loved the rainforest setting and fresh water creek. Staff very friendly. We visited for my birthday and everyone went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Restaurant food, ambience and service was great!
"Thank you for a great stay!"
We stayed at the Heritage Lodge for two nights and loved it. Vicky was so generous and went out of our way to ensure that we had a great experience. When our plans fell through for one of our tour bookings, she personally took it upon herself to help us find alternative arrangements and saved the day. We are very grateful for her help! We enjoyed our meals at the on-site restaurant and the activities nearby. The staff were friendly and consistently helpful. Would definitely come back for a return visit.
"Not the greatest place, keep looking"
I really wanted to love this place but hate to say I won't be going back and would not recommend it to others. The cabins are very basic and in need of some serious renovating. I did not like having the bar Fridge (and a very small one at that) in the bathroom under the sink and in the same room as the toilet. I didn't mind the beds and even though it was old and loud the air con worked great. The bedding was for 4 yet inside they had a table tucked up in the corner with 2 chairs. The table had the kettle on it which was covered in dust... The food at the restaurant was terrible and I mean terrible and not even the chips were edible... The main meal was a disgrace. Breakfast was dismal, not much of a choice and it ran out quickly. The restaurant setting itself was lovely... the pool was smaller than the one I have in my backyard. The creek was beautiful. Anthony and Ida were lovely but the owner/manager Kerry well yeah what can I say but it leaves a lot to be desired in the way of customer service. Definitely not kid friendly so don't come here if you have children. You are constantly walking on egg shells as it is not the right atmosphere for children. It's hard trying to find a place on the internet but sorry to say give this one a miss and keep looking.
