"Lunch in an Exotic, Outdoor Haven"
After walking in the nearby Daintree Rain Forest, we were ready to eat and relax awhile. Stopping here was a good decision. If we'd had more time I would have liked to stay overnight and take a walk on one of the nature trails. As it was, the lodge was a comfortable place for us to take a break. The staff are welcoming and there is an outdoor restaurant worth visiting.
"Wonderful real rain forest experience"
I spent a lot of time deciding where to stay Daintree and feel that I was lucky enough to have picked the best place for a real rain forest experience. The lodge is right in the very heart of Daintree in beautiful tropical setting with a creek by the side. I did look at other more luxurious places to stay but I can do that anywhere and they did not offer the same setting to really get a sense of staying within the rainforest. I consider this a very good 3 star option. I had a family room which although reasonably basic was extremely clean, fairly spacious and very comfortable. It had a nice decking with seats to sit out on overlooking the lush tropical plants etc. We dined in the restaurant both evenings of our stay and found the food to be beautiful cooked with any special requests taking into consideration. The restaurant itself is set outside next to the creek and a lovely atmospheric place to dine. Our hosts were attentive, welcoming and helpful and spent time to advise us of the best places to visit depending on what we were looking for. There is not much to do in the evenings but for us after travelling simply playing cards and watching DVD's was very pleasant (they have a selection to borrow but you may be advised to bring some of your own as well). All the staff that we met were very friendly and helpful. I will be staying here again as I feel we simply did not have long enough to enjoy the property and the Daintree. The only constructive negative that I have is that breakfast is a lack lustre affair and although we were sightseeing and did not require much I feel there is real room for improvement which would really enhance the experience at this otherwise wonderful place.
We loved our stay as a couple. Big spacious amazing rooms . Ive stayed all over the world this room has to be one of the biggest . We had no problems with anything just loved every minute. Staff were amazing and helpful. Can i just shout out to the cleaning staff ...very important. ...thanks for making every night we came home so clean and tidy you lovely people go un noticed and were very cheerful every time we saw you . Keep it it ...big thank you to Viki for having us ...we are coming back soon.
"Perfect place to stay, deep in the heart of the Daintree rainforest."
We stayed at the lodge in April 2017. The room was very comfortable, had everything we needed and felt quite luxurious. It had air conditioning - which is a real treat for a region that has no mains power - and had a balcony with breathtaking views of the Daintree rainforest. The restaurant served absolutely delicious food with very generous servings. The lodge arranged a massage for me which was absolutely a.m.a.z.i.n.g. It was a real treat to stay in the actual rainforest and not the manicured gardens of a hotel/resort. Vicki and her team went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back again as soon as we can!
"Great spot and fabulous staff (but...)"
Firstly the Heritage Lodge is in the most wonderful position - it's well off the main road (about a kilometer into the rainforest) but is very accessible even without a 4x4. The main part of the lodge is perched just above a small river / large stream which was two deeper sections that can be swum in. There are steps down to each of these, but the final couple of metres into the river is a bit rocky / pebbly so take flip-flops (thongs). A swim in these pools is an absolute must and my kids loved diving around in the fresh, clear water, even during one of the many downpours (it is a rainforest!). The lodge is far enough upstream to mitigate any risk of crocodiles, as suggested by an earlier reviewer. The staff are equally wonderful - Vicky went out of her way to ensure that we were well looked after and also to make sure that my kids were happy. They have a good selection of DVDs which can be taken back to the cabins so that parents can be left in peace in the restaurant in the evenings after dinner. The food was plentiful and the separate kids' menu had a good variety and was well received. Anthony also gave us very useful tips for exploring the area the next day (including staying away from the water when walking down Thornton Beach due to the croc risk - something that many visitors seemed to blissfully ignore!) The cabins are what I would describe as basic, though saying that the shower was powerful (though it could do with a more modern 'rain' head as the jets on our one was so fine that it actually stung the skin). To me the bed was a touch on the hard side and the pillows were like a 'soft rock' (to quote my daughter) and I feel that the owners could perhaps spend a bit of money renovating the rooms. It is, however, a tough one - the Daintree is an isolated area and the lodge relies on its own power etc so I imagine it is tough to balance the 'needs' of the modern tourist with the eco credentials. The restaurant food was good, though I felt that at times a 'lighter' option might have been better (perhaps a grilled fillet with salad rather than a fillet covered in a heavy sauce with scalloped potatoes). Breakfast was perfectly adequate, and the fresh bread, fruit and yoghurt was plentiful and well received by all. In terms of value for money I would suggest that it's probably a bit on the high side. The room price is relatively fair (notwithstanding the comment about some renovation) but the restaurant certainly charges top prices (and remember that you are a captive audience so have little choice). All in all I would recommend the lodge, but would have given it an extra point if the rooms were a bit more up to date. No complaints whatsoever to Vicky and the team though who made us feel very welcome.
