"A unique and memorable stay"
We stayed here for 3 nights in mid November while exploring the magical Daintree rainforest. We were given a warm welcome by the friendly and helpful receptionist/waitress when we arrived at nightfall and found our cabin was comfortable and characterful. Air conditioning was great (and much needed!) - it was really nice to have non-central AC, and there was a fan to boot. The bed was large and comfortable, the room had high ceilings and plenty of space. Falling asleep - and waking up - to the sounds of the jungle was wonderful: you really are right in the middle of it here. We had one breakfast and two dinners during our stay. The dinner in particular was really made with care by an obviously well-trained chef, and it's a really nice menu and drinks selection. Looking out onto the rainforest as you dine is pretty special. One of our favourite things was taking a dip in the hotel's own creek: such a beautiful way to cool down. The staff were all really helpful and friendly, and Anthony the main receptionist gave us some really good tips to help us explore the area. We couldn't have asked for anything more really! We'll always remember our visit to the Daintree and Heritage Lodge.
The setting of this hotel in the middle of the Daintree is great! And it also has easy access from main roads. The terrace where dinner and breakfasts are served is great and has amazing views over the creek. The swimming holes are great spots in the middle of the Daintree and not crowded at all! The pool is also nice and surounded by tropical plants. The room nevertheless was not what we would have expected. It is a very average room, not too nice, not very nicely decorated. Some of the things seem a bit outdated and would need a renovation. We were on our honeymoon and it didn't seem a romantic room at all - we actually had a double bed plus an extra single bed (when we only really needed a double bed and it makes it kind of less romantic). Apart from this, there are umbrellas for the guests (which came in very handy!) and beach towels for swimming. And they have dvd's and books that you can take to your room!
"Heritage Lodge & Spa"
Rustic cabins set in unspoilt rainforest. Lovely natural paths through the forest , a natural creek swimming hole and very friendly thoughtful staff. This was out first visit to the Daintree and we liked the fact that the Lodge was low key and wasn't so commercialised as to spoil the whole forest experience. The accommodation is not luxurious but the basic cabins were very clean and fitted naturally into the forest surroundings with an outdoor verandah. Breakfast was adequate given that it's included in the price and the evening meals were very good. My only suggestions for improvement would be too please get the fridge out of the ensuite and into the main cabin and also to have some light options for lunch. I understand that it is a restaurant catering for coach tours and day visitors but for residents it would be good to be able to purchase just a sandwich or similar for lunch as two big meals a day is to much for us and there are very limited other food options close by. As other reviewers have said, including the word Spa in the title and advertising it as such is misleading. A massage in the room has no resemblance to a Spa. Overall we loved our experience here and would stay again. Christine - Perth
"Beautiful escape into the rainforest for lunch"
We stopped here for lunch.. Food consisted on sandwiches, salad, cookies, and drinks. The outside seems unique, but the inside was very dated. Wait staff was nice, but overwhelmed with several large groups of people. The highlight was going down the steps and swimming in Cooper Creek.
"Average place - probably better value elsewhere"
I'm really not sure how the Heritage Lodge & Spa has ended up with so many glowing reviews. To be clear, there is nothing bad about it per se... just nothing particularly good either. We ended up concluding that were we paying half the price we were, we'd have found it excellent, but for the cost per night (it's more expensive than some of the nicer places in Port Douglas), it just felt like a giant letdown. I completely understand that Cape Tribulation is in a isolated location, and that drives expenses up, but I don't think it justifies the huge gap in cost versus quality of accommodation. The rooms, though idyllically located amongst the rainforest, are terribly out of date. The furniture and decor is aged, the beds incredibly uncomfortable (all three of them in our room!) the bathroom (while working and clean) looks like it's the original from the 80's. The breakfast is exactly as advertised ('Tropical continental'), but it all feels like it's been set up so the chef doesn't need to be there for service - fruit salad clearly not freshly chopped, croissants defrosted the night before, etc. A few minor adjustments feel like it could make the breakfast experience that bit better, which would help to justify the price. The dinner was fine, but overpriced - but then, that was standard across everywhere we went in Cape Trib. We ate there once and decided not to return for our final two nights. When we arrived we were told our booking had been cancelled, but I think that was a system error on behalf of our travel agent, but I did find it unusual that Anthony knew who we were, had a print out of our cancellation ready, and yet was flustered and unable to reassure us and confirm our room quickly and easily. It should be noted that there is no Spa here - they merely have an affiliated masseuse who they can book to come to your room. As I said, at a different price point, and advertised as something other than an upmarket boutique accommodation option, this might feel like something that's an absolute gem to find. As it is, it's disappointing and very overpriced.
