"Thank you for a great stay!"
We stayed at the Heritage Lodge for two nights and loved it. Vicky was so generous and went out of our way to ensure that we had a great experience. When our plans fell through for one of our tour bookings, she personally took it upon herself to help us find alternative arrangements and saved the day. We are very grateful for her help! We enjoyed our meals at the on-site restaurant and the activities nearby. The staff were friendly and consistently helpful. Would definitely come back for a return visit.
"Not the greatest place, keep looking"
I really wanted to love this place but hate to say I won't be going back and would not recommend it to others. The cabins are very basic and in need of some serious renovating. I did not like having the bar Fridge (and a very small one at that) in the bathroom under the sink and in the same room as the toilet. I didn't mind the beds and even though it was old and loud the air con worked great. The bedding was for 4 yet inside they had a table tucked up in the corner with 2 chairs. The table had the kettle on it which was covered in dust... The food at the restaurant was terrible and I mean terrible and not even the chips were edible... The main meal was a disgrace. Breakfast was dismal, not much of a choice and it ran out quickly. The restaurant setting itself was lovely... the pool was smaller than the one I have in my backyard. The creek was beautiful. Anthony and Ida were lovely but the owner/manager Kerry well yeah what can I say but it leaves a lot to be desired in the way of customer service. Definitely not kid friendly so don't come here if you have children. You are constantly walking on egg shells as it is not the right atmosphere for children. It's hard trying to find a place on the internet but sorry to say give this one a miss and keep looking.
"Lovely place in nature"
We were here 4 nights, which we enjoyed very much. Very nice rooms with shutters which make you able to look directly in the jungle! Good daily cleaning and lovely staff The accommodation is placed in the middle of the rainforest and even has its own private swimming creek/ hole, which is lovely to cool down. Daintiest rainforest I would recommend for 2 to 3 days. If you like a challenge and you are quiet fit/ active, do not forget to do the mount sorrow trail ( approximately 6 hour steep hiking route)
"Lots of misleading claims"
I had dreamed of sleeping in the middle of the rainforest, so when I came across this accommodation, it seemed fantastic. The arrival was a tad bumpy as the road is unsealed, it's not too long, but long enough to damage a hire car, so take it slow. The welcome was warm, and our key was handed over in a pretty bag with an umbrella and torch, not that we needed the umbrella (which was a shame really!). Now, whilst Vicky was welcoming, she complained bitterly about people not being properly informed before they arrived, mainly Brits (we're British!), who weren't expecting creepy crawlies, no wifi or TV. They do advertise on their website that wifi is possible in the restaurant - it wasn't - they advertise TV's in rooms, however they fail to mention that there is no TV reception and only DVD's can be played. The restaurant isn't really a restaurant, it's a few tables and a chef, and only appears to open if you book. We did book for the first night, however my mother was made to feel very uncomfortable about her allergy to dairy. There were no suitable options for her, but Vicky suggested that they could alter dishes if required. At dinner, Mum ordered a steak and asked for dauphinoise potatoes to be replaced with chips which appeared to be ok and the waitress didn't give any indication that there would be a problem. The food was mediocre, a little tasteless and certainly not worth $70. When signing the check, we noticed that we'd been charged for a side of chips... apparantely the chef wasn't too pleased at the alterations to his menu, and had told the waitress to add on a side at an extra $10. We didn't go for dinner again. Breakfast was basic, and not exactly "tropical", a few pieces of ham and cheese, toast and "home made" runny jam. Other than this, the pool was small and grubby, the waterholes are fresh and clear but just a tad chilly for full body emersion, and also note that if turtles can get there, as they claim, so can crocs! To be clear, there is no spa. Offering a treatment in a your room does not mean you have a spa, and I felt this was just another misleading claim made by the lodge. The rooms themselves are a good size and very clean, but the air-conditioning is a little dilapidated, well we assumed it was, as it didn't appear to work. We decided to check out a couple of nights early as being in the middle of the rainforest is lovely for a while but when the service is terse and facilities minimal, it starts to become less than relaxing. There was some issues with receiving a refund, but after some emails back and forth, I'm pleased to say this was finally resolved. It is worth mentioning the lady that cleaned our room as she is a hidden treasure! She was soo lovely, and fantastically helpful, even giving us invaluable advice for Daintree River tours, so a huge thank you - she should be on Reception! In summary, it's a nice retreat for a couple of nights, but really not worth the money. There are plenty of places with a better offering, at lower cost, nearby. Such a shame.
