Most staff very helpful, need lighter options for food to eat at night. Day Tour amazing and the Tour guide fantastic, they was no much beauty to see on the Tour. Pool and surrounds wonderful and the atmosphere wonderful as well.
Definitely different. If you like comfortable accommodation in a bush atmosphere, this is it. Reasonably expensive but don't regret going. Beauty Spot tour is a must, friendly guide and no driving but you get to see a reasonable area of the island.
"A bit tired - not a lot of choice for dining, terrible experience at Seabelle and inexperienced backpacker staff"
We visited Kingfisher Bay Resort for a 3 night stay. On arrival we were not shown to our rooms just pointed in the right direction. Rooms were OK, what would have been 4 star a few years ago now need a bit of revamp. Breakfast was included in our package, it was typical hotel style buffet by the 3rd day there really was nothing to make it exciting, We decided to spoil ourselves on the 2nd night and book into their 5 star restaurant Seabelle. What an absolute disaster that was. We were pointed to the bar where one young backpacker was working, we ordered our four drinks and 35 minutes later they were delivered to us. After waiting 50 minutes for our table (we arrived 5 minutes prior to our booking) we were shown to our table. We ordered our Meals and bread as a starter and ordered our drinks with another backpacker. 1 hour and 5 minutes later I went to find our waitress and ask where our meals were as other people who sat down 15 miuntes after us had their meals delivered. She told us that their order got in before ours I asked her if it took her 15 minutes to make it from our table to the kitchen and she replied that we ordered too many entrees and it was confusing!!!!! Was she serious?????? She then went to find out where our meal were (meanwhile our drinks finally arrived over an hour since we ordered them). The waitress did not bring our bread starter but an offering from the Chef - Complimentary Chips there were 4 or 5 chips on the plate between 4 of us - yes you heard right complimentary chips in a 5 star restaurant. To add insult to injury the chips were inedible, soggy with fat, burnt and cold! 1 hour and 20 minutes our entree's arrived : Seared Scollops with Pea Puree - 2 scollops cut in half with 5 x 5 cent piece dots of pea puree (we are talking around $25.00 approx) Crab Luingunie - 2 x 50 cent piece size swirls of linguine with around 2 x 20 cent piles of crab (again around $25.00) Mushroom Soup - INEDIBLE - oily, bland and visually disgusting That was enough for us, unfortunately all the other restaurants were closed so we went back to our rooms hungry. The complimentary cheese and biccys at the Sunset Bar was great, really nice to sit on the jetty while having a beer and enjoy a lovely platter. All in all the resort is OK, a bit tired but clean. Not a great choice with meals and there is literally nowhere else to eat. Staff are mostly friendly but inexperienced and mostly backpackers. Would most likely not return or would recommend no longer than 2 night stay.
Give everything a go it was fun to try new activities and experience lots of 'firsts'. If 4WD bus touring make sure you take travel sickness medication prior to departure if you are prone. Wear bathers as there are always opportunities to swim. Insect repellent a must.
"Gone down hill........."
They say you shouldn't go back a second time.....well sometimes it's ok but this time..... We shouldn't have! It must have changed hands. We went in 1994 it was new (I know what you are going to say...) but you CAN keep up the maintenance on the place, I've seen the photos of other people about the rooms need a lot of care... have they heard about Replacing plants when one dies!!!! There must be a lot of people like me ..think that WiFi should be free..... even places in way out places have it!!!! FREE!! We paid for the room and we had to pay for the food..... well that could be better....First they need to train the staff.... One to sit you down and explain what happens... maybe two to take the orders... one to deliver the drinks and two to bring the food to you and then one or two to clear the tables...... we were sat down and there were two couples sitting on the next table... we had are food before they were seen to!!! HELLO...... The last time we were there my Husband went out on a fishing boat and had a great time and he said he would love to do it again..... Well no one did it!!! Get it up and running again..... there must be a lot more people who would love to go out and fish...... Apart from all of that.... the walks on the beach and the sunsets were fantastic......the trip to the other side of the Island was great too. The last time we went to Eli Creek we and 8 other people in 2 4x4 trucks... boy there must have been about 40 cars and about 4 buses.... it was great to see the kids loving it.... Well we will not be going again! Just hope they sort out the restaurant and look into maintaining the grounds ...
