"Fantastic base from which to explore"
Spent a fantastic long weekend at Kingfisher Bay in a spa hotel room. The room was comfortable, with everything you would expect from a hotel room. The only reason for 4 stars not 5 is that the room in particular felt a little dated in places. The resort is in a beautiful setting, with boardwalks and bushwalks throughout the complex, plus access to busk walks outside the perimeter (dingo) fence. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and dealt with all requests quickly and happily. There are loads of activities on offer including loads of ranger guided walks, paddle board and canoe hire, etc. Lots of information available at reception including tide times. Breakfast at the Maheno Restaurant was a typical hotel buffet breakfast, good selection of hot and cold. The restaurant is in a nice location by the pool and we enjoyed sitting out on the deck. We had the degustation dinner at the Seabelle Restaurant which was fantastic – would highly recommend it as a romantic treat! The more casual Sandbar Restaurant has your typical burgers and pizza menu and seems more geared towards families, and we enjoyed a few games of pool there and taking advantage of their 2-for-1 cocktail happy hour. The Sunset Bar was our favourite spot to chill out. The sunset view is gorgeous though the bar is busy then – we enjoyed just relaxing with a drink during the day when it was quieter. We expected island prices to be somewhat excessive, but we were pleasantly surprised by the prices of drinks at the bars, especially when Happy Hour promos were on. We decided to hire a 4WD for the day through the on-site Aussie Trax office, which the hotel staff were happy to organise for us in advance. The inland roads were tricky but it was great fun and we could see the island sites under our own steam away from the tour buses. We requested a picnic hamper from the hotel for our day trip – the food was amazing and a great selection, although there was a huge amount of it just for 2 of us! In short, we would highly recommend the resort for a Fraser Island stay – we would happily book to come back again!
"Three C;s family"
Fraser is well worth a visit,if a little expensive. If you don't fancy 4WDrivibg yourself then the Beauty Spots Tour is a good option to see the sights. Also, a 10 minute flight from the beach ($80 but worth it) is amazing! Still best to arrive by car(slightly cheaper for 4 people) and bring some drinks and snacks with you to save on General Store costs. Lack of free WIFI a bit archaic in this day and age!
"Villa in bush setting"
We had a comfortable stay in the villa and enjoyed drinks at sunset bar after a day of exploring the island by 4x4. Love Fraser Island and we will definitely be back. The resort facilities are excellent
"Great place in a great place"
This resort on world heritage Fraser Island is a fantastic place to stay. Roomy, clean units and lots of things to do. There are trips around the scenic parts of the island (they cost extra), guided tours around the features of the resort, some cost extra, most don't but if you have a 4WD and can get it there you'll be so glad you did. Vehicle barges leave from Inskip Point and River Heads. However if you just want to kick back and relax, it's a pretty nice place to do that too. The staff are really friendly and helpful with both the booking process, registration and room service making every aspect of our stay enjoyable. They is room for improvement though, e.g. the staff levels at breakfast in the restaurant are far from adequate. Prices are expensive across the site but you get that at every resort with a captive group of guests. There are some strange ideas, like the Sand Bar (drinks, food, pizza) right beside the beach only open Thursday to Sunday - the resort is full of overseas holiday makers, not Aussie weekenders. A great wildlife resort with birds, reptiles and dingoes. Pristine beaches and the different gorgeous niches on site - we stayed right next to the Wallum swamp. Awesome!! The only low point that we could find was the breakfast. $48 per couple, about the same as you would pay at a city cafe. However, if a city cafe had this limited choice of food and lack of staff, they wouldn't be in business long. 1 of 2 coffee machines working, empty food trays not being refilled, no salt and pepper on the table, no clean coffee cups - when we told the overworked lone staff person about no coffee cups she just said that we would have to wait until she washed some. You could have pancakes from the automatic pancake maker if you are prepared to wait 5 minutes for 2 pancakes the size of 50 cent pieces. Their whole breakfast experience needs a rethink
"Deserves better reviews!"
Not sure where the negative reviewers were coming from. We stayed at the hotel part, a double room, well-presented, clean and everything worked. Yes, the food is more expensive than RSLs or bowls clubs, but the breakfast included in our deal offered a wide choice, fresh fruit etc. Dinner was not 5 star standard, but it's an island, guys! The staff were pleasant and efficient despite the rumours of impending sale of the property. Check your bill before leaving though, especially if you're on a 'deal'. Reception staff didn't seem to know about 'inclusions'.
