"Birthday High tea, service was very average."
My girlfriend and I were staying in the Hunter Valley for my birthday weekend and booked us a high tea on the Sunday arvo. The grounds and hotel itself are absolutely beautiful. We waited at the desk for quite a few minutes until someone came to find our booking and seat us. The food and coffee/tea were delicious. The view out to the courtyard was really nice aswell. There was a baby shower party happening when we arrived and and we were the only other people sitting in the room, it was abit awkward. Felt like we were intruding. They took up most the space with themselves and the cake/present tables etc. I feel like they should hire out an entire area for bigger groups like that. We got our food tower fairly quickly but waited at least 20 minutes before I had to go and find a waitress in another room at the bar to ask for our drinks... High Tea isn't much without tea... The service was the only thing that let down the experience but it's quite a big area to fail in at such a nice facility. The Hotel was really quiet, not busy at all so there was no real excuse. I'm not a snob at all but when you pay for an experience at a fancy hotel you expect a certain level of service. Besides the service issues I'd recommend this hotel for a high tea. Enjoy!!
"Will never stay again"
It use to be a lovely hotel and even though they revamped it recently it's so crowded, noisy and has no privacy. We stayed in room 52 and at 1am a group of people next door decided they would keep the party going until 6am. Even after being told to stop twice. The walls to the rooms are paper thin so you can hear every word, so times that by 20 people in the room and you might as well have tried to sleep in your car instead. After getting 2 hours sleep we left the next day not refreshed and rested but stressed and angry. Also for some stupid reason they decide to hold a wedding service out side next to our balcony, without telling us when we checked in that it was going to happen. I love weddings but we felt obliged to stay in our room until the service was over as to not ruin their day by talking. So we couldn't leave our room to sit outside for about 3 hours. It would have been nice to have been told this was going to happen before we checked in.
"Short Stay Hunter"
The room and view was magnificent along with the food. Staff vert attentive and polite. Had a swim in the pool no one else using it which was great. Would have been better if had a porter or trolley to carry the luggage.
We booked a Deluxe room that was supposed to included a spacious shower, delectable mini bar, tea & coffee facilities and uninterrupted views, we got a postage size bathroom that you could not swing a cat in, a view of the car park, a coffee machine that we could only use if we crawled under the desk to plug in, no drinks in the mini bar and had to wait 1 & a half hours for room service, very disappointing week end away.
We were at the Sebel for a wedding... our room was awesome, beautiful views, good size, airy, roomy and had an air of elegance about it. The staff were friendly and created a warmly atmosphere. The meals were a good size and reasonably price, with only a small surcharge for room service. The only down sides were.. there were only 3 coffee pods for the machine , if you wanted more they had to be purchased, and if you don't have a car it is a little difficult to get around as the Sebel is on acreage in the Hunter Valley.
