Really enjoyed our stay at Kirkton Park best place we have stayed at in the Hunter and will be staying again. The overall property was just lovely, beautiful in every respect with glorious views, the interiors, gardens and feel of the property, all very relaxing.
Recently renovated Kirkton Park is a good place to stay in a great location. Rooms have been modernised and are comfortable. The public areas are very nice with a large lounge and sitting area. Breakfast was very good with a good variety to suit most people. Staff were the standout of the stay with the young ladies at reception being extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing like a warm welcome to start your stay.
"Stunning place and highly recommended"
Firstly I would rate it 3.5 stars and not 3 but tripadvisor doesn't allow this. First up the place has been stunningly remodeled. It is swanky, sophisticated and charming. The staff and service is great. The estate is quite and great for a getaway to recharge and relax. The gym and pool are great with the later being indoors. There's a sauna room, which I didn't use, and a spa. There's also a tennis court and basketball court and loads of space on the estate to go for a walk. The Sebel falls short in the dining/Restaurant IMO. I had a delicious burger but it didnt come with anything. Chips and salad is extra. The Pizza is pretty small. There is no breakfast deal with accommodation but there's unlimited wifi. Maybe this is the trade-off? A little more variety to the menu would be good too. After a day of exploring guests would be starving for a hearty meal. We wanted to stay in and eat but knew that it wouldn't be as satisfying. Other than that this place is great and we will return. Its is conveniently located to Cessnock and the wineries.
Had three nights here very disappointing ! Good staff. Wanted cocktails at the bar.... only to be told they no limes, so we couldn't have any. Verandas dirty. Very limited food menu at the restaurant which doesn't change ! Would not stay here again
"Nice Romantic Getaway"
My wife and I were looking for a place to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we saw a groupon pop up for this hotel at a very good price. Turns out it was too good to be true because they charged us a $170 'surcharge' because we were there on a weekend (though they never mentioned that the 3 times I spoke to them on the phone before I booked and paid). Well, now that i've vented about that...It was a very nice hotel and we did enjoy our stay. The room was nice but some rooms have much better views than others. We asked to switch from our first room which had a view of a big bush and the carpark to a room overlooking the rose garden...which was MUCH better for sitting out on the deck and drinking wine...which is what you do in the Hunter Valley! So, if I was to go again I would make sure to ask for one of the rooms overlooking the garden or even better, an outward looking room facing the mountains. The beds were big and comfortable and the room had the standard stuff. A nice empty refrigerator, which I like, so you can bring back your white wines and chill them (you order mini bar from the front desk). We only had overpriced breakfast there but didn't eat lunch or dinner as the menu looked expensive and uninspiring. The grounds were really beautiful and well maintained and we enjoyed the tree swing and my wife LOVED getting to feed the pigs scraps after breakfast (the pigs are kept a ways away, so no worries if your not into swine being near you). The pool house was great and the water was SUPER cold...meant to cool you down on a hot day or sober you up after your 3rd wine tasting I suppose. The staff were ok, helpful when asked. The bartender was great. All in all it was a nice place to spend the weekend. Also, it is very close to a lot of great vineyards...but not is walking distance...so you will need to drive or tour if your going to cellar doors.
