"For the price I expected better."
We spent one night at this hotel as we were attending a wedding. The hotel itself is situated off Oakley Road in the beautiful Hunter Valley. It is quite isolated but this adds to its charm and character. We booked a room with a balcony which overlooked the valley and countryside. It was stunning. Our room was large and spacious with plenty of hanging space. The theme of the room was in keeping with its country atmosphere. The bathroom was very functional with an excellent shower. Our bed was comfy and snug. The room was quiet and private, I slept well. In my view, there were however several matters which let the hotel down. The balcony railing was dangerously loose to a point where you could not lean against it. it appeared rotted in several places with the paint pealing. When I rang and confirmed my reservation I requested a queen bed. The room was set up as two single beds. When I called reception to make up the room as a queen, I was told that I would have to wait until later in the afternoon for this to be done and what plans did I have for the rest of the day! I indicated that it would only take 15 minutes to rectify the room and that what I was planning for the rest of the day was my business. It was only when I mentioned that I stay in many hotels all around the world that that the receptionist ceased her inquisition and had house keeping make up the room within 10 minutes. I did mention to house keeping that the balcony rail was loose but no one showed a great deal of interest. Overall the hotel appeared tired. There were many areas which required general maintenance with a paint brush and a general clean. There was a birds nest in one of the rafters of the hotel, Not good or hygienic. On check-in I found the receptionist had an attitude problem. As one usually does, I guaranteed payment with my credit card. The receptionist then began to give me an running explanation about why it is good to pay now so that you will not go over your credit limit. I was amazed. I said to the receptionist, jokingly, that if you had a $1000 credit limit you should not have a credit card to which the receptionist replied "Well we all can't be as fortunate as you". This could only happen at an Australian hotel. Breakfast was disappointing. There was a good selection of fruit and my eggs were cooked perfectly to order however the bacon was of a low quality, the orange juice bitter and the coffee undrinkable. There was also no bake beans which is unheard of in an Australian country breakfast setting. Overall breakfast felt disorganised and without proper supervision. At one point there were no clean glasses. I would like to stay here again if only to see if matters had improved. For the price I expected better.
"A most enjoyable stay in wonderful surroundings"
The view from our room was breathtaking. We were not in an executive room yet the furnishings and amenities were first class. The whole complex has a pleasant ambience. The staff are friendly without being overwhelming. We came here to eat some time ago when it was a Sebel. The service level has been maintained. The swimming pool and tennis courts are in good condition. The hotel is upmarket so our expectations were high. We were not disappointed. The service is very good and the staff most obliging. They have obviously been well-trained. Well worth the extra amount one pays for a classy establishment like this.
"First Class Service"
Fantastic short break away, the accommodation well appointed, the outstanding feature the first class service from the staff, attentive to all the details, the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed, if anything a tad outdated, a hangover from the old Sebel days, but the property is beautiful and plenty of opportunity for countryside walks and lounging around.
A very nice place, accommodation is great. Decor is beautful, Bed is firm and comfortable. Shower is awful, the flow is very slow. Everything else was great. From the staff, to the views. Cocktail room is gorgeous and the cocktails were really nice. We enjoyed our stay and would return.
Totally lovely place the lady st reception was amazing do helpful for places to go The pool was amazing the gym was good the spa was amazing the view was great and the room we had was awesome Totally looked after us from the beginning to the end
