Over Orpheus Island

"True paradise"

We flew round trip by helicopter from Cairns to Orpheus on June 16. Stayed 3 nights in the amazing paradise! The staff upgraded our room to a suite which was very kind of them. There were only 8 guests total on the island for 2 of our three night stay. Received very personalize and attentive service at every turn. Met with a champagne toast. A bottle of champagne plus 3 bottles of wine in our mini fridge, multiple soft drinks and water. The meals were of Michelin quality. I had to take photos of each meal as it was just over the top beautiful art, as well as being just so delicious. I am allergic to shellfish and they were meticulous about attending to that request. Beds were scrumptious with a view right into the infinity pool and Coral Sea. This is a place to relax at the end of our 3 wks in Australia. Would rate a 10 if that was possible!

"A little piece of paradise"

We were on Orpheus for our anniversary at the end of January this year and had a wonderful time. Our adventure began with a scenic helicopter flight to Orpheus ($1200 for 2 people) On arrival we were welcomed and taken to the lounge where sparkling wine and a cool towel were waiting for us and then we had a chat with the Chef regarding our likes and dislikes. We were then taken to our room where our luggage was waiting for us as well as a bottle of wine and a cheese platter. Our Room: While it was more expensive than we would normally spend on a five night holiday it was worth it. Although at $1400 a night I expected the room to be a bit more luxurious. We stayed in a North Beachfront Room which had a great view of the ocean however if I was to return I would choose to stay in a South Beachfront Room. They are a little bit larger with a couch which would have been nice to have. There really wasn’t anywhere to sit in our room with only one lounge chair in the corner. If you have the money a South Suite would be fantastic. However we didn’t spend much time in our room so it didn’t matter too much. The Food: It was amazing and we looked forward to every meal. It was suggested by other guests that a basket of fruit and a selection of nibbles by the bar to help yourself would have been a nice touch but we didn’t really feel the need to snack between meals. I have read of people complaining about the drinks included in the cost but we were pretty happy with Sav Blanc and sparkling provided. However considering we had mentioned we drink Moscato when asked what our preferences were before arrival we were disappointed to find no Moscato available. Also a cocktail of the day included in the package would have been a nice touch. The Staff: All were very friendly, helpful and attentive. There was more staff than guests when we were there although that wouldn’t be too hard as when we arrived with another couple we were the only guests there until the next day when another couple arrived. We were lucky the other guests on the island were very friendly and great to catch up with for a chat throughout the day and pre-dinner drinks. I think the island experience would be very different depending on who else was on the island. I can’t imagine it crowded with other people (even limited to 28) or children running around. I think it would suit being an 18 plus resort The Activities: Every day there was an optional planned activity in the morning, a guided walk around the island one day and snorkelling trips on the other days we stayed. We loved the snorkelling trips which were not too far from the island. All equipment was supplied at no extra cost. We went on a walk to Picnic bay one morning which was a bit of a hike and I was a little disappointed when we finally got there as there really wasn’t anywhere to sit and have a picnic, it was very rocky. Lazing by the infinity pool was a regular past time for us but we did venture out on the paddle boards, kayaks and dingy as well. We’d definitely go back again but at a different time of year. Going at the end of January the humidity and flies (they bite!) was a bit unpleasant. Also there is no air-conditioning in the dining area so it was pretty hot and uncomfortable. It would be nice to have somewhere to be able to enjoy and drink and a meal away from the heat and humidity. Overall a very special place to spend five nights. Thank you Ross, Jennifer and the team of staff on the island for a lovely holiday.

"Best trip of our lives! (the perfect honeymoon)"

Across the board, Orpheus Island Lodge is incredible. We spent four nights at the resort to begin our three-week-long Australian honeymoon, and couldn't be happier with how it worked out. What made it incredible? Let me begin... THE ARRIVAL. To start, we took a quick (but not too quick) helicopter ride from Townsville to get to the resort. The pilot was knowledgable and made everyone on board feel comfortable and safe. It set the tone for our stay at Orpheus and was really special. Upon arrival, we met the staff and that's when the real experience began. THE STAFF. These guys are world-class at what they do. Upon arrival, we met Ross, the General Manager, who gave us a warm welcome and set the tone for our stay on Orpheus. Upon meeting, you could tell he was a great guy who would remain engaged with us throughout our stay. Then, Ross introduced us to the chef, who walked us through our custom tailored menu, which was designed according to a pre-trip questionnaire we completed about our dietary restrictions / food preferences beforehand. From then until we left, we were on a first-name basis with everyone on the island, including our fellow guests. Also worth noting -- at any given point it felt like there were at least DOUBLE the staff on the island to the number of guests staying at Orpheus (2:1+ ratio, not bad!). Also, special shoutout to Lex (Marine expert) for making our dive on the reef such a fun time, and to all of the restaurant / bar staff for the hospitality. THE EXPERIENCE. At Orpheus, you really control your destiny in terms of what you do (or don't do). We're from the US and were visiting AUS for the first time, so wanted to make the most of our trip and swim with sharks in the Great Barrier Reef. That said, we also were on our honeymoon and wanted to be able to "unplug" and relax into our new life together as a married couple. Not a problem, we were able to do both! For starters, there was a complimentary daily activity provided by the staff for all guests. This ranged from wine tasting to snorkeling at the gorgeous clam gardens nearby to an educational guided walk through the tides. The highlight of our trip was the (paid) dive to the outer reef with Lex, Ross and Tegan. It was truly once-in-a-lifetime, and we even go to (deep sea?) fish on the way back. It's a MUST do if you go! BOTTOM-LINE: you won't regret taking a trip to Orpheus. It's certainly pricey, but it's worth every penny. We'll be back one day, without a doubt!

"A very special place!"

My wife and I have just returned from an amazing time on Orpheus. The island, accomodation, food and staff were all wonderful. I rarely write reviews and have been fortunate enough to have stayed in a large number of five star hotels and resorts around the world on business and pleasure, but would have to say I can't think of a more perfect place. If you're looking for a special holiday on a tropical island with beautiful ocean views, gourmet food and wine, great snorkelling and a personalised experience, then Orpheus would be hard to beat. Watching the lovely sunsets over the ocean from the infinity pool is one of the many memories I will always cherish from a very special holiday. I had Telstra 4G reception on my phone throughout the resort, so despite feeling like being in a remote paradise found it easy to keep in touch with work and friends.

"50th Birthday Paradise"

Have to give the Island, its staff, the resort - accommodation food and drink and activities a 7 out of 10! This was a perfect destination for a birthday celebration that was out of this world in every way. So lucky to have found this patch of paradise - including a bucket list helicopter flight in, exquisite food and wine last, including dinner under the stars watching the reef sharks play in the water. Staff were amazing the attention to detail wonderful and just so friendly and personable. Thank you for making my birthday so special - we will be back :)
