Over Orpheus Island

"Amazing, a real slice of heaven!"

What a trip! Firstly I will say from the moment we arrived we felt relaxed. We arrived at the island via helicopter and were greeted by management, Ross and Jen, who are absolutely lovely. We were also met by another couple who were flying out, they were so happy but very disappointed to be leaving, they told us 'they didn't want to leave and how we were going to have the best trip ever', it turned out this was no word of a lie!! After we got a family photo in front of the helicopter Jen took us around to the pool bar/pavillion area (breathtaking and picturesque) where we were greeted by a glass of bubbles and towel refreshment, we sat and enjoyed our refreshments where we met the head chef who quickly took note of our likes and dislikes as well as set meal times for our 9 month old baby. This was the first taste of how our holiday would go. The food was amazing, every meal designed specifically to our likes. We love seafood and there was a lot of it!! The menus were even printed with our names on it - great attention to detail here. Room service - we'd come back from breakfast and the room was tidied and bed made. It felt like every time we returned to the room it had been tidied and cleaned up again, this was such a lovely touch. Activities - there is a board in the main area of the resort thats updated each day, snorkelling, cocktail making classes, walking, kayaking etc.. Theres so much to do on the island. The service was impeccable and it really felt like we were the only people on the island. You're not just a number here and I guess that comes with being such a small island but the service really is one of a kind. Do yourself a favour and go to the spa and get a massage from Liana, so good. The only negative? We weren't there long enough! We're already planning the next trip. I don't think you can go wrong staying at Orpheus Island.

"One of a Kind, but with some caveats"

a secluded island resort off the coast of the great barrier reef, this is a place worth visiting. The five-star review comes with some caveats. The "5" is due to the beauty, the seclusion, the food, and the amazing staff. the rooms while spacious are NOT luxurious. they are more beachy in nature and the bathrooms are somewhat poor, at best. for the price, i expected MUCH better rooms. However, when you have no more than 30 guests on a 7000 acre island, you should not be spending too much time in your room. Snorkling, paddle boarding, scuba, fishing, yoga, hiking, swimming ... all under the watchful eyes of the best-in-class staff ... its a true getaway. On top of that, the food was sublime. a different global cuisine presented each lunch, a terrific selection of breakfast choices, and tasty (albeit small) dinner made mealtime something to look forward to - i have found that this is not usually the case on private islands. one negative is that the mood of the property can be dramatically dependent upon the guests on the property. when a family of 8 (6 kids) arrived, the resort went from feeling like a newlywed property to something much different, and less relaxing. When a guest brings his own pool raft and is jumping on the raft despite others resting quietly around the infinity pool ... that changes the mood. so, i would say the experience could be hit or miss if you get the wrong guests. all that said, if you bring your own crew with you and plan to just get out and take advantage of the surroundings (which include walks in the low tide looking at mantarays and reef sharks swimming around your feet) ... its kind of tough to beat.

"One visit is not enough...."

As part of a month long tour in Australia we stayed at Orpheus for Christmas and can not wait to return. It commences with a very relaxed and scenic helicopter trip and a warm welcome from the Orpheus Staff with every single need catered for. The service is personal relaxed and with every staff member addressing you by name. The location is just simply stunning and the attention to detail is outstanding from personalised menus for dinner with food tailored to your personal likes. The food is outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. Snorkelling tours were informative and spending Christmas afternoon on a private outer Reef charter diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef was a fantastic way to spend the day. It is impossible to single out any individual member of staff they were all fantastic, very professional and we miss this place very much.Thank you for a wonderful stay on Orpheus best wishes to all for 2017 Trev, Tracy and Nic

"I can not recommend this enough. "

Thank you so much for everything. I had such a great time with you over the last 5 days. The effort put in by the staff and the chefs to accommodate me being vegan was greatly appreciated. I was so sad to leave orpheous island and it's friendly, happy vibe. The activities were amazing including the best snorkelling you'll ever see, fishing, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing plus cocktail making, massage classes. The list goes on! And again, the staff are incredible!!! Plus, there is plenty of complementary alcohol which is always a plus! Thanks again, and hopefully see you next year.

"A dream island"

The view is magnificent and what makes the island even more special are the staff. The attention to detail like observing food allergies and the housekeepers always ensuring the room had everything we wanted and more. The meals were works of art and Jen, who ran the walking tour, has a wealth of history and knowledge. Liana gave a fantastic massage. Jen and Ross, the general managers, were very attentive and made sure our needs were always met. Would recommend this spectacular hideaway to anyone who needs some relaxation or pampering!
