Over Saffire Freycinet

"Relaxed, luxury in a pristine location"

Visiting from Sydney, we spent 3 days / 2 nights at Saffire and loved every minute of it. Our activities included; - Schouten Island (half day cruise): Skipper Steve was great with loads of information and frequently got us within metres of the Island, while the waves rolled up against the rocks. Loads of seals, birds and rock formations and pulling into a little cove for light refreshments and snacks was lovely. Our favourite tour (though we had pristine weather)! - Oyster Farm experience: unique and amazing. Our guides Nicole and Marty was awesome. Taking our group out in waders, shucking c. 60 oysters (with various condiments), not to mention champaign. It even got the non-oyster eaters eating a couple. Everyone who goes to Saffire should do this (and I think just about everyone does)! - Wineglass Bay lookout: a light to moderate walk. Our guide Marty was full of local knowledge. We had a wallaby that just kept hanging around us at the lookout (making for excellent photos), and the view of Wineglass Bay was amazing. We wish we had more time to walk down to the bay. - Spa: We weren't sure if we wanted to get a spa treatment before we arrived, but really happy we did, which assisted in the relaxing process. Alyssa tailored the spa treatment and did an awesome job. - Tassie Devils: a quick easy tour as it's a five minute walk from reception. The devils get fed metres from you (on the others side of the glass). Nicole's passion for the devils is clear. She's full of knowledge and provided a great overview. Meals World class local produce, original, quality menus that are well prepared and served with tailored matching wine by James our maitre de (excellent service from Leon and Angela). We had lunch on the balcony while the chef was BBQ'ing. It was great having a chat to the chef for something a bit different. Service Justin runs a smooth operation, from the check-in process at reception (which starts when your call pulls up), room service, guides, waiters, etc. Nothing is too much trouble and always comes with a smile. We wish we had spent and extra day and would have either done another hike, kayak around picnic island, go fishing and/or relax on the beach. We highly recommend it!

"Indulgent & Brilliant - for a Price"

   05-03-2017
This is a luxurious hotel that has an amazing view of the Hazard mountains that captivates you the moment you walk in. The welcome is friendly and relaxed whilst still making you feel you are in a special place. All the staff were amazingly friendly and go out of their way to remember your name which I am sure is part of their training but still feels sincere - any request feels like it is no trouble. The room was excellent - plenty of space - amazing views. Comfortable bed. The only shame is the lack of a balcony though I suspect if that was available many people would be content to stay there rather than head to dinner. Cleaning service was very good and couldn't fault - their timing seems impeccable as we never came across them and seemed to know when we wouldn't be in the room for a few hours. The free mini bar has some good quality local produce. Luxurious bathroom with own brand products. Dining is very good and we had some excellent dishes. It is a restaurant feel and whilst not overly formal - smart casual tends to be the norm. The free wine list is extensive enough and of sufficient quality to keep most people satisfied but there is a reasonable list of premium wines if you want to go higher up the scale and pay. The beauty of the wines that are available complimentary is the ability to try several different ones, many of which are local, with meals without committing to a bottle of anything. On one occasion I wasn't that fussed with one of my choices after a couple of mouthfuls with the food combination and so the staff gladly provided a different one. Over a few nights we worked our way through most of them ! There are quite a few experiences provided. The Oyster farm is a must and unique - the ability to wade out into the estuary and have freshly shucked oysters with a glass of bubbles was very enjoyable. The Tasmanian Devil experience is worthwhile to appreciate these animals and the stress they are facing with a contagious cancer - the feeding frenzy is eye opening ! The spa treatment was great after a reasonable day walking. We were signed up for the guided Wineglass Bay lookout walk but as we are reasonably fit we opted out and instead did the self guided walk to the top of Mt Amos which offers a more panoramic view of Wineglass Bay. This walk does require a certain level of fitness and stamina and mobility as there is quite strenuous scrambling over boulders on the way up ( and down !!) - this can be extremely slippery in wet conditions and so the signs all warn to attempt the track only in dry conditions. If you attempt this walk it is entirely do-able and a fantastic view from the top that is well worth it but do ensure the right footwear. So overall this is a fantastic and unique hotel that was a wonderful stay in every way - yes its expensive so treat it as an indulgence and enjoy the experience !

"Amazing Short Break"

   04-03-2017
We have just returned from 2 nights at Saffire in a luxury suite - their lowest priced accommodation. It was spacious, very clean, well appointed and had an amazing view of The Hazards. The check in process was effortless and we were made to feel very welcome. All staff were exceptional in their knowledge and service levels and nothing was too much trouble. The food and beverage staff aways knew our first names, and any food dislikes etc were noted, to the point of me receiving a different dinner menu where nothing contained chilli. We weren't able to take advantage of many activities due to our short stay and wanting to relax, but the choices covered a range of interests. We would definitely return.

"Almost perfect. "

First, I have to say we don't travel this way very often. We simply can't afford to, we are more of a Intercontinental family. For the money we spent for three nights at Saffire, we could have taken our boys to Disney. But, I have been battling cancer for two years and wanted to experience something as amazing and luxurious as Saffire. I had high expectations and most were met. Pros: Staff is amazing. Over the top helpful. Russ didn't just give us suggestions for our time in Melbourne, he prepared several ideas for us to spend our time there and presented us with it all in writing upon our departure. Rooms are also fantastic. Luxurious but functional. In room minibar, cookie jar, turndown service, hot pot of tea awaiting you. Activities are excellent and should be taken advantage of. Beach is beautiful and I recommend spending a few hours just walking and enjoying your view. Food is well done and they will cater to any requirements you have. Cons: there is a big focus on food. By this I mean, it was wonderful to have a slow, romantic dinner with wine and simply enjoy the evening. But dinner took us almost 3 hours! By our last night we would have loved to just have room service and enjoy sitting in our room with the sun setting. For the price you pay I think you should have more flexibility with your meals. We would have loved to pick up the phone and order room service. To enjoy breakfast in bed. It appeared that anything on room service was an extra charge. That may not matter to some folks, after all, you are on holiday. But when you have a property like Saffire, something small like that makes the seems a little petty. Part of the draw here is the amazing view, make time to enjoy it. General- I was surprised at how many kids were there! So do expect that as this is not an adults only property. Do use the lounge at he Hobart airport. Spa is superb, use the credit they offer and indulge. Most people dress for their first dinner but gradually end up,more casual. We did this and watched everyone do this as you settle in. I loved our time in Taz. Spend a night in Hobart and visit the Bonorong Sanctuary. Check out local brewery and coffee shops.
