Over Mercure Hotel Perth

Good central location at the top of the Hay Street Mall and across from the Perth Mint. Room was clean and spacious. Good bed and bathroom linen and towels. Bathroom is a little dated but was very clean. Two queen size beds in the room with pillow "menu" so quite comfortable. Good cafe and bar on the premises and breakfast was good. Staff were efficient and friendly. Our "go to" place to stay in Perth.
Stayed 3 nights at the Mercure while in Perth. Close to some of the sites of Perth including the Perth Mint. Free hop on hop off bus around the corner in Hay Street. Room was large with 2 lounge chairs plus table TV and desk. Clean room with coffee/tea making facilities and fridge. Didn't like the shower over the bath as thought it dangerous getting in through the glass screen shower door. Also mattress was too soft for us as we prefer a firm mattress. Free internet was great. Didn't use pool. Staff helpful and pleasant.
Stayed here for 7 nights during a trip to Perth. Check in was quick and our room was spotless. Plenty of space and very clean. Only downside to our room was the old fashioned bathrooms. It would appear the hotel is in the process of upgrading as they have put new carpets down. There is an excellent gym in the hotel and a rooftop pool but they need some parasols for shade from the heat. Rooms were cleaned every day and staff were very friendly and helpful. Would almost certainly stay here again if we come back!
"Everything about this hotel is average"
My colleagues and I stayed in the hotel for a couple of nights and found everything clean and functional. I don’t get why the basic rooms need to have to queen sized bed in it, when most business guests are probably travelling “soloâ€? The rooms would feel much less crowded with only one queen sized bed in it. It would be nice if the alarm clocks were updated to current technology or at least you had the option to charge a modern phone next to your bed (a USB port would be great, at a minimum how about a power point?) WiFi is good (and free) and there is enough room to be able to sit and do work on a laptop. The bathroom is dated, but clean and functional. I think they cut the water output out of the showers a little bit too much (I’m a “water minimalist†in the shower at home, but they have taken this to a new level) - there are much better shower heads available nowadays that at least give the impression of getting wet! Also, I don’t think they need to throw out the soap and shampoo every day after a single use? The walls and door to the corridors are not very well sound insulated, so that when other guests come home in the middle of the night, it feels like they are in your room (and I usually sleep quite well). Doors slamming shut loudly is a problem with most hotels that have keyed entry, but coupled with the poor sound insulation, makes that issue much worse. The pool is nice even if it was in the other block tower and you have to walk past the lobby and bar in your bathers to swap towers. Gym looks modern, but I didn’t have time to try any of the equipment. Breakfasts are Ok, they have all the important things for a western diet and not overly expensive if you can get a “specialâ€. I you ask for a coffee from one of the staff, they will make you a decent expesso machine coffee - don’t bother with the automatic machine in the general food area - it’s awful! There doesn’t seem to be any consistent view on charging for the coffee made by staff - in reality, it should just be free and the order could be taken while they are taking you to your table? Prices for hotel rooms in Perth have dropped significantly over the past few years and there is no longer a problem in finding a reasonable place to stay. I like the location of this hotel and it is reasonably priced most of the time - so I’ll be back again soon.
"Always happy to stay at Mercure Irwin Street Perth"
I travel to Perth about 4 or 5 times a year and I'm always happy to stay at the Mercure on Irwin Street. Sometimes, other organisations arrange my accommodation and when that happens I don't always get a choice about where I stay but if I'm given a choice it will be Irwin Street every time.
