Over Tamanu Beach Resort

If you're looking for an exciting time don't go to Aitutaki however if you want a peaceful, relaxing time then this is the place for you. Our welcome at Aitutaki airport was very warming and we loved the leis. As we were early we luckily didn't have to wait long for our beach front unit. Our unit was spacious and very well appointed with a beautiful deck to relax on. The swimming off the beach was fantastic and the water so crystal clear. We didn't use either of the swimming pools as the infinity pool was under repair and the other pool was just not as enticing as the sea. Now to the downside ..... the restaurant. Firstly I must say the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was "breakfast" and adequate but no green tea although I did find some in our unit so took that with me. Unfortunately, unless you have transport, they have a "captured" market which we felt was reflective in the prices. Dinner was "okay" but our biggest gripe would be that with the Sunday night barbecue we had no choice it was either pay $49.50 or starve as there was no a la carte available. Also be prepared that they may not have the wine/beer listed available as they can run out of stock as everything is shipped in. All that said we did have a lovely time and a lagoon cruise is a must, the highlight of Aitutaki

"If you're not happy here, you won't be happy anywhere"

Aitutaki was the most beautiful place I've visited in my life, hence the title of the review- I feel like I could have stayed in a shack and still had a wonderful time. Luckily, Tamanu Beach was a fantastic experience. To get one thing out of the way right away- yeah, from a US perspective at least, the room is not what you would get in the US for $300+/night- you're paying for location. It's still worth it. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the hotel has excellent (free!) amenities- free bikes, kayaks, and snorkeling equipment. Dining options in the area are limited, but the on-site restaurant has food that is more than acceptable. We stayed in both the one bedroom Lagoon View bungalow and the studio Beachfront bungalow. . .in spite of the hammock in the Beachfront bungalow, we preferred the Lagoon View, as the room is a bit more modern and closer to the restaurant and lobby (and is literally a 30-second walk from the beach). One random note- at least in the Lagoon View room, there were tiny ants that seemed to be attracted to heat, so they'd be all over any electronics that heat up when they're plugged in/charging. . .I woke up to my laptop covered in ants, but I'm pretty sure I got them all out. :) In summary, it's hard to have a bad time in Aitutaki, but Tamanu Beach makes that possibility even more remote. Highly recommended, and are trying to scheme our way back there this year as well.

"Enjoyable evenings"

We booked before leaving home on the internet the Sunday barbecue & sunset night and Thursday Island night and received an email from Tamanu confirming our bookings. However when we pop in Sunday morning to the restaurant we were told that they didn't have our bookings. We managed to get a table both nights. We were very impressed by the manager speech and welcome. The fast buffet was very good and full of island dishes. We loved it despite the mojito lacking rum! The sunset was amazing. The island dances were very good but we wish we were explained their meanings and lasted a bit longer. Over all we really enjoyed both evenings.

"Lovely return trip to Paradise"

We had already stayed at Tamanu in February 2016, so coming back again, I was slightly apprehensive about just how special Aitutaki would feel again. Happy to report that the "wow " factor was still there. The views from the resort beach of the lagoon are still breath taking and the lagoon day trip to the smaller islands was as amazing as before. We had an upgraded bungalow this time, as the slighter older bungalows that we stayed on previously were being upgraded. The accommodation was superb, offering a large bedroom with king size bed, large living room and a fabulous deck. The daily housekeeping was excellent, and the resort provides complimentary in room water, coffee and tea. The restaurant dining room service was as attentive as ever, and all the a la carte meals were exceptionally well prepared and presented. I loved the Tamanu complimentary breakfast, especially the Bircher's muesli and fresh tropical fruit. Nick and all his staff make Tamanu Beach resort such a special place to visit. We will be back again. We so love Aitutaki and Tamanu.

"Disappointed...should be so much better"

Briefly...high and lowlights... Meet and greet by a lovely lady...who seemed to know everyone on the island!! Would have been nice to get a cool drink on arrival...as we were early...whilst we couldn't get into our room, we got towels..so could go straight to the beach. Rooms are pleasant, and supply of mosquito burner is handy. Unfortunately replenishment of toiletries wasn't ideal...even after asking for missing items, shampoo etc...still not delivered. Food was ok, as others have said...breakfast is just cereal and toast, although you can pay extra for eggs etc. Dinners were generally ok, although one meal left a lot to be desired when the starter of bread and dips hadn't arrived after 90 mins despite asking the waitress again...and again... The staff were generally good, and I would single Shane, the barman out as being particularly good, attentive and friendly - a great acquisition. Overall it was a pleasant stay...but could have been so much better with improved service. I did see the staff receiving a presentation on teamwork...next time I suggest Customer Service!!
