Over Tamanu Beach Resort

First time to Aitutaki. Wow. Stayed 3 nights with our 17yr old son Lovely resort. Picked up and made to feel very welcome. Arrived at resort great introduction about the resort while relaxing with a cold drink. Our villa was lovely and clean. Nice breakfast included. Reception very helpful. Water activities great. Nice and relaxing.

"Best package on the island"

Just had our second stay here and once again did not disappoint. The lovely Nane greeted us at the airport and made us feel like we were coming home again. Our room was ready early and we were welcomed by the reception and also by Nick the hotel manager. A nice touch when we got to our room was the complementary mini bar and bottle of red, something which was new this time. Little touches like this make a big difference. Our beachfront rooms have been well maintained since our previous stay (200 rooms). These rooms are absolutely perfect with a mix of comfort, traditional construction, and they blend in beautifully with the landscape and the lagoon. The restaurant is very relaxing with a menu that provides a mix of local fresh foods and dishes. The Sunday night barbecue was a highlight for us, the food and atmosphere was awesome. Nick is always getting around making sure his guests are well catered for and providing them with any info they need to make the most of the resort and experience the island. I have looked at the other resorts on the island and sure there are others that do certain things as well or better. There are resorts that are more lavish but unfortunately overstated, and there are wonderfully traditional resorts that don't provide enough luxury, but you will not find a better complete package than Tamanu beach resort.

"An awesome stay for a short or long time"

Ok we stayed 18 days, yes 18 days on a single island, It was great diving snorkelling getting to know the locals and understand how people on the island live. The staff at Tamanu were exceptional, Nick's front of house staff were always helpful and made accommodations to any request we had (i.e. some funky ways to pay the bill) the restaurant was excellent every breakfast/lunch and dinner we ate there, Shane is a mean barman with some good skills! The food was great although not greatly varied but with the remoteness of Aitutaki I am amazed anybody could turn out the amazing dinners we had every time at Tamanu, the kitchen team are to be highly commended, Steak night Friday will forever be my favourite time at Tamanu! just awesome food. The island night on Thursday is not to be missed and I'm told (by reliable sources ) the best on the island, I find such things a bit cheesy but the spectacle was amazing!... fire dancing man... dangerous! Also the 2 hour Snorkel tour the offer in the Tamanu boat is not to be missed, even if you don't get wet! we were keen to go twice! The 200 block Suites are great, large size excellent storage and perfect indoor outdoor areas to relax, good bathroom and shower (wet room style) extremely comfortable even in the late summer heat. The refurbed 100 block is EVEN more impressive studio units with a high level of finish! The grounds are well maintained as is the two pools (the infinity pool is worth a visit!), allot of detail is taken here and it shows, its postcard perfect all the time. Above all its the people who make Tamanu, great friendly knowledgeable and helpful, if they cant do it then or don't know, they'll get it done or find out and get back to you. Cant rate this team and resort highly enough! Quiet, peaceful, awesome.

If you're looking for an exciting time don't go to Aitutaki however if you want a peaceful, relaxing time then this is the place for you. Our welcome at Aitutaki airport was very warming and we loved the leis. As we were early we luckily didn't have to wait long for our beach front unit. Our unit was spacious and very well appointed with a beautiful deck to relax on. The swimming off the beach was fantastic and the water so crystal clear. We didn't use either of the swimming pools as the infinity pool was under repair and the other pool was just not as enticing as the sea. Now to the downside ..... the restaurant. Firstly I must say the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was "breakfast" and adequate but no green tea although I did find some in our unit so took that with me. Unfortunately, unless you have transport, they have a "captured" market which we felt was reflective in the prices. Dinner was "okay" but our biggest gripe would be that with the Sunday night barbecue we had no choice it was either pay $49.50 or starve as there was no a la carte available. Also be prepared that they may not have the wine/beer listed available as they can run out of stock as everything is shipped in. All that said we did have a lovely time and a lagoon cruise is a must, the highlight of Aitutaki

"If you're not happy here, you won't be happy anywhere"

Aitutaki was the most beautiful place I've visited in my life, hence the title of the review- I feel like I could have stayed in a shack and still had a wonderful time. Luckily, Tamanu Beach was a fantastic experience. To get one thing out of the way right away- yeah, from a US perspective at least, the room is not what you would get in the US for $300+/night- you're paying for location. It's still worth it. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the hotel has excellent (free!) amenities- free bikes, kayaks, and snorkeling equipment. Dining options in the area are limited, but the on-site restaurant has food that is more than acceptable. We stayed in both the one bedroom Lagoon View bungalow and the studio Beachfront bungalow. . .in spite of the hammock in the Beachfront bungalow, we preferred the Lagoon View, as the room is a bit more modern and closer to the restaurant and lobby (and is literally a 30-second walk from the beach). One random note- at least in the Lagoon View room, there were tiny ants that seemed to be attracted to heat, so they'd be all over any electronics that heat up when they're plugged in/charging. . .I woke up to my laptop covered in ants, but I'm pretty sure I got them all out. :) In summary, it's hard to have a bad time in Aitutaki, but Tamanu Beach makes that possibility even more remote. Highly recommended, and are trying to scheme our way back there this year as well.
