Over Tamanu Beach Resort

"Awesome little corner of the globe"

   17-11-2017
A really top place to stay.Have been wanting to come to Aitutaki for years and we were not disappointed . Wonderful staff, very comfortable rooms, pristine lagoon and beach area, and a fantastic restaurant. We are already planning our next trip here. Its also only a bicycle ride away to a couple of fantastic food outlets that sell great fresh burgers, coffee, etc and the liquor store is also close by and surprisingly reasonable. Thanks so much to everyone at Tamanu who made our stay so wonderful xx

"Absolutely beautiful "

   12-11-2017
We were very lucky to have booked the intimate beachfront bungalow (112) it was absolutely beautiful. It was quiet and very private and the view was great. Loved the Breakfast, lunch and dinners at the restaurant and highly recommend the Sunday Feast and also the Thursday night Island night. Pool was great and the snorkeling at your front door is beautiful. All the staff were wonderful, from the great greeting at the airport to the sad departure from the resort. The resort was in a great location. We certainly felt relaxed the minute we arrived.

"Beachfront Bungalow"

   07-11-2017
Really enjoyed four nights in a beachside bungalow. It rained for some of our stay so we had an excuse just to lounge on the balcony and enjoy the view. We had more than ample space inside and, while the bathroom was a little tired, the bungalow was very comfortable. Staff, while not always efficient, were very courteous. The TV only tuned to one channel (sometimes when lucky - affected by weather) but you don't go to places like this to watch tv! Internet ... well we chewed through the $10 vouchers (the first was complimentary) without really trying so would recommend exploring better internet options from the airport or vendors in town. Either that or stay off the internet :-) . Definitely happy with our choice of a bungalow rather than a smaller room in a more expensive resort elsewhere. Highly recommend hiking a bike from the resort to get around. A great stay.

"Lovely Beach for Snorkeling"

   30-10-2017
This was the first beach that we swam and snorkeled at when we arrived on Aitutaki. After a delicious lunch at Tamanu Beach Resort (see my review), we headed into the afternoon's sunshine to explore the underwater world. It was a pleasant experience to swim in the warm and mostly shallow water and to see a variety of beautiful tropical fish going about their business in amongst the bommies. The water visibility was quite clear and we even saw a blue starfish. Tamanu Beach is a quiet beach. There were only a few other people at the time we were there. We enjoyed our time here and it was a good introduction to what was to come - a series of far more spectacular snorkeling adventures in other parts of the Aitutaki lagoon (see my reviews) and some spectacular, uninhabited beaches that took our (collective) breath away.

"Comfortable room and relax atmosphere"

   28-10-2017
We had a relaxing week staying at Tamanu Beach during our time in Aitutaki. The resort isn't amazing by international standard, but it is one of the better accommodation option in Aitutaki, which quite rustic and very strained in resources. There were some issues affected our experience during the stay, and management didn't handle them the best. Tamanu is on the leeward side of the island, about 10 minutes from the center of town. The hotel has two blocks, the lagoon view rooms are the 200 block by the reception and the restaurant, and garden rooms (100 block) separated by another property in between. The owner also has residence across street. The are 2 pools, one in each blocks. The overall layout of the property is 3.5 out of 5. The rooms are well appointed. We were in a 100 block room looking toward the pool and beach. I read that the room been recently renovated, and they do look new. The bathroom was spacious with additional outdoor shower. The closet/kitchenette for making tea/coffee was a nice facility. The terrace has day bed and table and seatings. It was a relaxing place to spend the day. The bungalow is 4 out of 5. The restaurant serves simple breakfast, but the options were high in sugar. Egg dishes are additional charge. We went to both the island night and Sunday night buffet. The food was decent. It's one of the few places on the island that able to accommodate large group. Service was sometimes hit or miss. Overall is 3 out of 5. We had 2 unpleasant issues during our stay. First one, the day we checked in. They had the wrong time for pickup despite the time was communicated well through email. They were prompt in picking us up. But the room wasn't ready until after 2:30pm. They didn't offer drink or any for the delay of the room availability. After waited for 2 hours, andd we settled into our room, while lounging on the terrace, its start raining ashes, and air get very very smokey. A large fire burning through the hills blowing directly downwind to the resort. Lots of guests left the property because the smoke is so thick. The fire burns from afternoon through evening. Everything was covered in black ashes, including the pool and all outdoor temperature. The fire was caused resort's staff and gave guests a very bad experience. Management provided no communication, just left guests in the dark. We learn it from other people from the island. The second issue we had was from the front desk. We had asked the front desk to make dinner reservation for us and was told confirmed. But the morning of the reservation we ask them to call to reconfirm to find out they make it for wrong number of people and the restaurant can't accommodate us that night. So the front desk said they are sorry and they will accommodate us at the hotel restaurant that night. Except when we showed up, the hotel restaurant said they were full and there were no record nor communication from the front desk about the reservation. It was a very unpleasant experience, and left there without a place to have dinner. When we told front desk about the issue they cause, the lady's response was "you shouldn't have make restaurant reservation through front desk, you should do it yourself". Very unprofessional. The restaurant staffs eventually agree and setup a table for us to do their best to accommodate us despite the disregard from the front desk. Overall, the resort can do better in communicate issues with guests, and front desk staffs should be better trained. We later learn that the GM of the resort was away in Fiji during our stay there, which might explain why there were so disorganized and disregard to guests issue. Room were good, but very overpriced. Front desk service was a let down. But there are very few option in Aitutaki, this one is one of the better one.
