Over Wananavu Beach Resort

"Beautiful place, great people, not too great for wheelchair users"

Gorgeous resort. Loved the pool, the cove, the informational talks and demonstrations about Fijian life. Really good food (though frankly too much of it!). Very friendly and helpful staff - especially Jo! The resort doesn't claim to be wheelchair accessible - and it's not! The paved ramp paths are very, very steep. The bure we were in had three steps to it - we were told they would put a ramp in but it never happened. Difficult to tell why since they said someone had stayed there the night before who used a WC and that they'd built a ramp for him. Not sure why they took it out since they knew we were coming and had a member of our group who uses a manual wheelchair. We stayed there 4 days and it never happened. That said, staff was very helpful in pushing the chair up and down the steep paths and in bringing it and it's occupant up the steps - but the nondisabled room occupant had to go to the lodge and request help each time. A few relatively simple and inexpensive additions would at least make one bure and the main lodge/dining are WC-accessible and would have made our visit much easier and smoother. The other able-bodied members of our party had a great time snorkeling, walking on the beach and enjoying the beauty of this resort.

"Paradise found"

I agree with the term Peaceful. We booked with Wananavu Dive Resort in order to scuba dive for five days in Bligh Waters. We found this resort through Trip Advisor, and it turned out to be a wonderful resort. The bure on the Beach was delightful. We loved the hammock in front of the bure! The balcony dining was so romantic with the band serenading us throughout he evening. The super moon was icing on the cake, along with the Fijian farewell song from the staff The food was good with local fish and tasty Indian favorites. The Wananavu dive company was top rate. We have dove around the world and I will strongly recommend them to anyone. Safety conscious, they accommodated beginner to advanced divers without hampering either experienced types. Kudos, James and Mindy! In particular, I appreciated the dive masters staying down with me the extra time each dive, since I used less air. This gave me a personalized dive each time. Thank you all!

"Great relaxing getaway for a couple of nights"

Right from the start we were impressed by the service and friendliness of staff. Having spent the last few weeks travelling, we thought that this resort was great value for money, including the meals and drinks which were reasonably priced (and we ate at the restaurant for every meal whilst there). We all loved spending time in the pool and sea. Views were fantastic, along with the man made harbour and peninsula walkway. Our room was clean (efficiently cleaned while we were at breakfast) and comfortable for a couple and 2 young children (1 an infant), with all amenities working well. This is a 4+ star property but 5 star for value and experience. Thorougly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again in the future.

"Run down"

This resort is very run down with little to do unless you are a diver. Very little work was being done around the resort and the pool bottom and sides were covered in a thick green mould which was slimy underfoot. there was little pool furniture and what there was had seen better days. The rooms were dirty and neglected with holes and gaps in the walls, mould in the bathroom with many more problems too numerous to mention. Food was pretty repetitive with a limited menu but wasn't too bad. The staff were wonderful but the manager was very ignorant who would cut you off in mid sentence to talk to someone else, he seemed to be very unapproachable and was disliked by the staff. A lot of the problems had been blamed on the hurricane a few months before but when we got in touch with the resort we were told that all was back to normal. If this was normal then they need to completely upgrade but little money is spent there. Mosquitos were a very big problem there and although they had blowers, they refused to use them and my wife and I were bitten to death, even with insect repellent on. This was the worst holiday we has ever endured, we would never go back there and the resort should only be a 2 star

"So Peaceful!"

My husband and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary at Wananavu, and had a wonderful and peaceful stay. The hotel is located about 2.5 hours away from the international airport which allows guests to enjoy some quite/peaceful time away from the the city. The resort is relatively small after a day or two of staying there everyone knows you by name and makes for a great R&R time. We stayed at one of their beachfront bures and absolutely loved it! Think of it as a little private beach with your own hammocks where you get to relax while watching the sunset. The room was impeccable every day, had a nice big bathroom, and a very tropical-ish vibe. super nice! The staff is extremely nice and friendly and really made our stay very enjoyable from a sweet anniversary serenade to making sure we didn't move a finger during our vacation. Now, why 4 stars instead of 5 - This can be a bit subjective depending on what you want/like on your vacation. If you just like to chill and bathe under the sun, then this is the perfect spot for you. My husband and I love doing that but just for a couple of days. Being so far away from the city makes it a bit hard to much. We did join the village tour, we kayaked (which is absolutely awesome and you get to see SO MUCH marine life) and we did dive (which by the way is spectacular), but that's about it. Most of the activities that are advertised didn't really happen so we didn't get to see much of it (crab races, coconut demonstrations, etc). The food is good but a bit overpriced in my opinion, but the overall restaurant/bar atmosphere is pretty enjoyable. Drinks are good and there's live music every night. Overall I would certainly recommend this hotel hands down, I just don't know if I'd stay there again for an extensive period of time.
