Over Wananavu Beach Resort

"We had an amazing week at Wananavu Beach Resort"

We had a wonderful time at Wananavu Beach Resort this past March. The food was exceptional, the staff courteous, helpful and accommodating. Our beach front bure was comfortable during our seven night stay. The Wi-Fi worked most of the time except after a horrendous lightning/thunder storm knocked out service for a few hours. We also experienced exceptional service from the dive shop who went out of their way to make a memorable experience. We did have to go 30-45 minute boat ride to get to sites that weren't affected by the runoff that followed torrential rains we had the first couple days. Remember to bring motion sickness medicine. Keep in mind that Nov-March is the rainy season and local snorkeling isn't very good.

First time visit and for one night only as we toured around Viti Levu. I regretted only staying here for one night about 15 minutes into our stay! The view from our Bure and the wonderful staff here make this place!! There appeared to be a lot of activities that you could do. Dinner was pretty good and the atmosphere of the staff and the music was a nice touch as well. Will be back with the rest of our family very soon and for a longer stay!

We stayed again at Wananavu in February, as per the last 7 times this resort is great. New Chef this year and the food was good, Chef Phil cooked my husbands steak perfectly. great menu and food. Room was spotless. Service always the best. Lokk forward to going back next February

"The Good, The Bad & The Ugly"

The Good: the resort is lovely. Very traditional Fijian, everything is made out of wood. Staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. The resort is nestled on a hill so the bures are scattered at different levels, so each one has a nice view of the ocean just below. We got a free upgrade from garden view to ocean view because the resort was quiet and not fully booked. The burr itself was clean and spacious, with mozzie nets on all Windows and air con. The pool is clean with a nice little waterfall in the deep end, and there's a little hut in the corner with four large pool beds if you needed a little afternoon siesta. The beach is great, small ripples rather than waves, so it's nice and calm to relax in, and the surroundings are very peaceful. The food is good, a continental buffet for breakfast plus an order of your choice from the menu, like a fried breakfast or pancake stack, then the lunch and dinner menu is the same with enough choice that you'll easily find something you like. I recommend the fettuccine carbonara, very nice but too large, only ate half of it. Happy hour is 5.30 - 6.30pm, the range of cocktails is good, we tried four of them and they were all very tasty. The Bad: Upon check in (we were only staying one night) at approx 2.30pm, I asked the receptionist what time dinner started because my family hadn't eaten since breakfast. We were a little peckish but not starving hungry. The lady advised that we could only eat at the hotel by purchasing the meal plan, which was $115 per person and consisted of a two course lunch and a three course dinner. I asked if this was really the only option and she said yes. As it was already now 2.45pm, we thought it was too late for lunch, plus dinner was then only a few hours later at 6pm, but then we didnt want to have the lunch the next day as we had planned to leave at 11am, so we really had no choice but to have the lunch we'd paid for there and then. We ordered our two courses but we're all full after the starter. Most of the main courses were wasted. I then took a closer look at the menu and noticed the meals were all individually priced. I thought if all the meals are part of the meal plan, why price them separately. So I went back to reception and questioned it, only to be told, oh yes you can pay as you go with the meals if you'd prefer. So annoying because we'd just wasted our main meals, so we could have saved that money and food for dinner. We ended up getting the meal plans credited back to our reservation and then the charges for dinner and cocktails came off the credit, and we checked out with the remainder being refunded back to us. So keep in mind, the meal plans are not compulsory and you can simply pay as you eat/drink. Also beware of the mozzies. I had every product imaginable on, and still got eaten alive, not fun the next day covered in bites and itching!! The Ugly: the road getting to the resort. Between Kings Rd and the resort is Volivoli Rd, and it's an absolute nightmare. Not the kind of road you expect to have to use to get to a hotel resort. We drove our Toyota Prius, and the road is pretty much in four sections: small potholes and stones, then a mass bed of entirely loose rocks and stones to the point we were sliding, then a hill going up with massive ruts and huge trenches where we grounded out the car a few times and I thought the whole bottom of the car was going to just fall out, and then finally the hill on the other side going down was again just ruts, trenches and rocks. It was honestly a nightmare. I was surprised we made it in one piece. Then when we parked the car and got out, the security guard said, oh not really the best car to drive up here in! I mean, what a stupid comment. Obviously if we'd have known about the road, we'd never have done it, especially with our little toddler in the car too. We just had no idea, and no one had told us at all that this road, which is the only way in and out by the way, would be as bad as it was. I think the drive leaving the resort for some reason was even worse, PLUS our friend who had also stayed that night had gotten a flat tyre, hmm I wonder why! Just glad I made it out of there alive!! :-)

"Good value!"

I was able to do a few different things at this resort for a fraction of what I would have to pay at the resorts at Denaru. I took my first dive lesson here, went snorkelling, saw a cultural show and had a massage. Everything went very well.
