Wananavu Beach Resort

Over Wananavu Beach Resort

"Wananavu...in Fijian "wonderful", name says it all!"

Our family of 4 spend 7 nights in Wananavu. Excellent choise for a start of vacation in paradise. Great food, buffet breakfast. Friendly, happy and experienced staff. Different kind of daytrips on the menu, snorkling, swimming with dolphins etc. We had 2 bedroom bungalow (number 40) second to last on the shore. Ocean view, 10 metres away from the sea, nice sand beach, little bit lawn, nice terrace. You have your own privacy there. Facilities were in order, fridge, fans, aircoolers on the wall in bedrooms. Big livingroom. Shower and toilet spacey. General pool area just the right size, sunbeds available. About 15 min drive to the town of Rakiraki. If you want peace and tranquility, that's what you're gonna get. No one can get there by accident. Driver will take you to town with a cost of small fee. Yards, trees, flowers in good shape and well taken care of. Prices aren't the cheapiest ones but they are not expensive either. Reasonable priced establishment. Even though there are small things here and there that should be fixed inside the bungalow but still, I recommend you to visit, you'll love it.

"Gorgeous spot for a relaxing break"

If you want a peaceful break by the beach in a nice local hotel with good food then this is the one. Beautiful little huts by the beach, spotlessly clean, friendly staff, really good food. Really lovely area, gardens, hammocks by the beach, two or three good snorkelling spots right by the hotel. Admittedly there's not a huge amount of other things to do but with this much sun, sea, and snorkelling who needs anything else to do? Dolphin watching trips are also good, local island tours, diving and boat trips also available. The only one negative thing I would mention are some of the captive audience prices, the bottled water is highly overpriced at over $8 a bottle and I paid over £10 (gbp) for a spiced rum and ginger ale at the bar! - to be completely fair I feel the staff are paid an appallingly low wage for the amount of work they do. Having discussed the issue with them directly they all defend the management and say it is more an issue with local payment allowances. However, I urge you to drive into the local town to stock your room with water etc and put the remaining balance you save in the tip box at the end of the week as the staff are all amazing!

"Great staff"

The resort staff is very friendly and capable. Location is very nice with views to sea. There can be some car noises for the garden view bures. Airport transfer offered by hotel is recommended. There's a good dive center on beach. For solo travellers it might become an issue, as they require minimum amount (4) of diver for the boat to depart.

"Loved our stay"

We spent a wonderful and relaxing week at Wananavu in an ocean view bure. We have been to Fiji a number of times but never to Rakiraki or in fact anywhere along the Kings highway. Our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Loved the shower and the toiletries. Large room with tea and coffee facilities and a fridge to keep our drinks cool. Nice balcony to sit on and soak up the views and gorgeous gardens. The staff were just fabulous, I don't think I have ever felt more welcomed or so well looked after. They all truly cared about our comfort and went out of their way to make sure everything was just right. They even gathered together on our last night to sing us Isa Lei (Fijian farewell song). The whole resort is well looked after and just beautiful, the pool heaven and the resort very quiet and peaceful. The water in the harbour is an amazing green/blue colour. Some cushions for the hard sun lounges by the water would be the only minor fault I found. One highlight was watching the most stunning sunsets I have ever seen whilst enjoying a drink on the restaurant balcony each evening. Food was a bit hit and miss at times, never bad but some interesting flavour combinations at times, I had the impression the chef was working hard to make the menu/food enjoyable but was a little confused as to whether it was fine dining or food to just enjoy in a relaxing, casual environment. The Lovo night was the best I had ever had in Fiji, everything was just delicious. Breakfast was good, just a few more fresh savoury items would have made it even more enjoyable for me as I don’t enjoy sweet cakes etc for breakfast, the hot food was the same everyday, probably only noticeable when you stay a week like we did, but the freshly cooked eggs every morning were very good. Unfortunately we didn’t do many activities as I had an ankle injury (and we were being lazy!) but other guests mentioned how much they enjoyed the markets, snorkelling and diving. We did do the island picnic but sadly had some issues, the staff were most upset to hear we didn’t enjoy ourselves, wanted to know exactly why so that they could improve the tour and refunded our money. Mistakes happen and just the fact they cared so much made up for it. This must be one of the best places we have stayed in Fiji and hope we can return (without an injured ankle!) and enjoy more of the activities and to see the fabulous staff again one day.

"Fantastic Friendly Fiji"

We stayed in a beach side bure for 5 wonderful days. Breakfast and dinner meals were great. We snorkled in front of the hotel and kayaked for free. Crab racing and talks were fun. That would have been enough but we also joined the paid snorkling and the dolphin trips. Both were terrific. Hotel staff were friendly and in a typically Fijian way made everyone feel very welcome. Everyone cheerfully greeted all customers by name and a cheerful welcoming Bula...
