Nothing to rave about. Was clean but servicing took all day and not many replacement towels considering paying $500 a night for Adele it should have all been top notch. Pool was okay but needs to be cleaned more frequently as great ball of hair still there from previous days
"Beautiful Lodging, Great Location"
We were in a one bedroom corner apartment on 21st floor for two nights. Lodging was very nice, upscale furnishings, very large accommodation. Views were very good. Staff was quite nice, and we were right in the heart of the action in Auckland. Near the shops, restaurants and the piers.
"Great if you don’t need to be online"
This should have been a 5* review, but for some reason this hotel that targets both business & leisure customers, doesn’t seem to realize that we have entered 2017. We booked the hotel through hotels.com after they advertised with both “free Internet†and “free premium WIFIâ€. As we had to work during our stay, this was one of the main reasons for choosing this hotel. However, there are absolutely nothing premium about this WIFI. First of all the speed is just average, but they have a 1GB/day data limit. I spent this in 20 minutes just browsing news papers. You couldn’t even buy more than 1 or 5 GB (but having to pay after being offered free, would still be a rip off), which means that it is basically useless. I can’t understand that there are hotels that still are running their business like this, and I can’t give them anywhere near full score. It’s unfortunate as the service upon arrival was very good. We arrived (very) early and because of a concert the day before, there were no available rooms. However we were taken well care of and was able to use the gym/pool as well as store luggage. We were told they would call when the room was ready (something they never did though), but we still got to check in around 12-13. The room itself was great and very spacious. There was a nice view, the bed was comfortable and it also contained a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The bedroom was also separate from the living room which is very convenient. The pressure in the shower was quite weak, but that is understandable with the current water situation. There was also two TV’s and a DVD-player in the room. Location is also nice, directly on Queen Street, about a 5 minute walk from the harbor. Unfortunately we also had another “situation†which wasn’t handled very well. On the couch in the living room there was a dried stain that, after a combined 20 years in the hospitality industry, we are quite sure was from a “manly body fluidâ€. We reported this, but despite promising to do so, they never tried to remove it during our stay. We don’t get too shocked by these things (after all people should be glad they don’t know how much you can find “hidden†in hotel furniture), but when we noted it, we expect it to be taken seriously. Even if it had turned out to be something else, it shouldn't be there for people to wonder. All in all the hotel has a lot of great features, and if it hadn’t been for the Internet-issue, I would probably have considered the hotel again.
"security, counter service poor"
I booked this hotel for a course in Auckland, when I arrived in the room about 9.30pm, the internal door which could link to another room is open, and the other side of door is not locked yet. So I had to call the receptionist to lock it for me. Also the next day, when I checked out at the counter, the guys was not polite, while he served me, he also chatted to his colleague, I am not sure what about.
I do not normally rate hotels but the staff at the City Life was outstanding, they could not been more hospitable. We arrived very early from the U.S. and young lady at the check-in desk explained that our room would not be ready for few more hours but offered us towels and the use of the exercise room shower to get freshened up, we did and were to spend the day touring Auckland refreshed. And the room was nice also
