"Nice accommodation "

The rooms are nicely situated in the forrest. Some of the units are a short step walk from the reception. The units are well equipped and are settled in a tranquil forrest environment. The Internet is very expensive with NZD 15 per device. There is a very slow 1 MB free service provided for one device per unit only. The have bicycles for rent. The restaurant has a nice Terrasse. We tried to go for dinner but were told they are fully booked despite lots of empty tables. When we came back from the village 90 minutes later they were still empty. We therefore never went back there to try the food due to the attitude of the staff. There is a limited amount of restaurants in town. Best to go for lunch somewhere and have a small meal in pub in town.

"Lovely dinner"

Hubby and I booked for dinner. I had the Aubergine rolls. Hubby had the venison. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Good choice of meals and drinks. Enjoyed it very much. Being up on the hill and in the trees felt very private and the birdsong was gorgeous.

"Fantastic Stay"

We arrived at Grand Mercure Puka Park on 12th Oct - 19th Oct. All reception staff & Staff at the Miha Restaurant were fantastic, always greeted us with friendly cheerful faces , always ready for a chat no matter what time of day. Food & service at Miha fantastic. Check in/out was cheerful and fast no complaints. Our chalet was beautiful. This is the 2nd time we have stayed here first time in 2013 & we will be back. No complaints from us. We were always made to feel welcome.

"Tanquility with Quality"

Grand Mercure Puka Park is an excellent place to stay if you are seeking tranquility in the woods with high quality accommodation. The king bed was excellent (firm with just enough softness for contour), much better than most NZ accommodation (the land of spongy beds). The room amenities were first class (toiletries, coffee making, towels, etc), and the balcony in the forest was a pleasure. The advertised "bath and shower" was an elegant looking but uncomfortable bath with a wrap around curtain for a shower. Also, the bathroom entrance (sliding louvre/slat door) is a metre from the bed, so anyone using facilities at night will likely wake the partner with a blast of light. A light above or near the sink mirror would also help. We had one dinner (out of three nights) and both of us were impressed. It was really world class culinary quality. Unfortunately, the resort had a company event for the other two nights, so front desk called to "suggest" we enjoy room service. Unfortunately, Pauanui has limited dining (one restaurant of mixed quality) and the next town is a 15 minute drive away. Not what I had planned for our last night of our multi-week vacation :-( We were also surprised that GM Puka Park still hasn't installed internet in the rooms, even though they have SkyTV (which we never use). Plenty of comfy sofas in the lounge to do internet work and speed is OK -- about 9mbps down, maybe 3mbps up, but struggled to work at all when a dozen or more people were using it during the company meetings. GM Puka Park has well trained, friendly staff. The resort is reasonably close to several Coromandel sights (nice beaches and hikes nearby; Cathedral Cove is a 45 minute drive north). Getting to the chalets involves hiking up a steep hill behind the lodge, but the resort seems to have a shuttle cart and you can drive your car to drop off and pick up luggage (but parking lot is below the lodge).

"Brilliant Short Stay"

My partner and I wanted a short break from everything and decided on a three night stay at this resort. Coming from Victoria Australia, we flew in to Auckland, hired a car and drove to the resort about 1hr 45min away though beautiful countryside. Arriving at the resort, we were helped enormously by the reception staff as my partner had just developed an acute attack of gout in the ankle; the staff couldn't be more helpful in organising an icepack for my partner and getting us to our private chalet, nestled amongst the trees. The stay was fantastic, great venue, great food, great service and great location, and what's more, the icepacks did the trick. I can only recommend interested persons look up the resort's website as I can't do justice to it here within this review. In a word ... stunning!
