U kunt in de cafe's terecht voor een eenvoudige fish & chips-maaltijd, maar ook in een gourmetrestaurant van rivierkreeftjes genieten. "Beautiful - but designed for form more than function"

   20-04-2017
This hotel is breathtakingly beautiful. A stunning central office area is surrounded by chalets, hidden in the rain forest forest in groups of two. We gasped when we saw it. We also loved that the hotel was quiet. It was all very serene. The facilities were also great - beautiful pool, spa, tennis court (you need to hire the rackets etc at a cost) and gym. The views from the restaurant were stunning. Unfortunately, the other aspects of staying in this place were not quite so great. To start, the chalets are not particularly functional. They are very small and a little cramped, with only two single beds - I would usually expect doubles in a resort of this price. Still, the real issue is the bathrooms. Although they look stunning, they epitomize form over substance. The bathroom door is one of those sliding doors with horizontal wooden slats that offers little in the way of visual or sound privacy, and ensures that the light from the bathroom floods the room if you need to go during the night. Said door - and the toilet behind it - is also situated only a few inches from one of the beds. This might be okay for a couple, but is weird for anyone else. Why not have the door open from the entry area opposite the kitchen? It may not look as great but it would sure work better. The shower has no door, which means you either have to use the rainshower (a lovely touch - and I suppose who wouldn't?) or risk flooding the bathroom floor. The windows in the bathroom are pretty but open in such a way that the people in the neighboring chalet can't help but get an eyeful as you go about your daily ablutions. Also, the desk for the laptop was pretty. but had a horizontal bar right where I (and likely most people) would put their legs. The isolation of the chalets guaranteed quiet, but the requirement that you walk to them, also meant that we had a steep walk from the car to the chalet every time we left. We didn't really mind this, but anyone who isn't reasonably fit will need to ask for a low room, or stay somewhere else. The laundry was $10 to use, so we didn't. The internet was not usable for anything but the most basic of webpages. I tried the password on every device and in different areas of the hotel and had no luck, despite the promise of highspeed internet on the card. Given the isolation, this was not overly surprising, but it was disappointing. None of these issues is really a game-changer in isolation, but cumulatively they left me with the impression that this was the kind of hotel designed to look pretty in brochures than with actual guests in mind. That is not necessarily a bad thing - the ambiance and appearance are a real selling point for many people - but it didn't really suit us on this occasion. The restaurant was fine, if overpriced for lunch. The burger was nothing special for the cost. We ate in the town the other days. The kids menu is really, really good though. The reception staff are wonderful. I rated the hotel 3 stars, but I am not sure that 'average' is correct. It is exceptional in many ways, but also flawed in others. I guess it depends what you are after.

"Peaceful & relaxing treehut in the bush"

   17-04-2017
From the moment we got to Puka Park we were made to feel very welcome by the wonderful reception staff. We stayed with a large conference group but it was so peaceful and quite, we didn't even know we were sharing the place with anyone until we went to the restaurant each night where we were given a private table on the balcony with beautiful views over the bush and Pauanui. The food and the service in the restaurant was amazing. The rooms were very comfortable with large wet space bathrooms. Would highly recommend staying here.

"Great Dinner with Customers"

   16-04-2017
Perfect spot hidden in the hills of Pauanui. Dinner was great. Really enjoyed the Ostrich steak and scallop entrees. The amazing setting with spectacular views is a bonus. Sit on the deck and soak up the surroundings.

"Nice Find, Very Quiet and Secluded"

   10-04-2017
We only stayed for one night here but enjoyed it immensely. It's a fairly quiet town and this resort nestled on the hill is very inconspicuous and subtle. The rooms were quiet and had good views of the forest and little glimpses of the ocean. The bar and restaurant were also very good and it seemed like there were a few locals here for a good meal. I would definitely stay here again!!

"Rainforest beach holiday"

   08-04-2017
Stayed here for 5 nights in a 3br chalet, which was huge and very well appointed, and completely private. Massive balconies with great outlook to the rainforest and valley. 2 fireplaces and kitchen, large dining and lounge areas, made it a very comfortable stay. Very steep hills, but friendly staff are happy to pick up in golf carts. The restaurant/bar areas are fabulous, with great outlook. Food was very good, and standard Accor affair. The Monday night buffet was reasonably priced and OK if you like that sort of thing, but there's a lack of eating out in Pauanui, so it's a catchup night for all the locals, so was very crowded and difficult to eat when you've got noisy tables with lots of people talking standing around them. Good facilities like small gym, pool, spa, tennis court, and very close to the beautiful beach. Unfortunately, the Lakes golf course was flooded recently so we couldn't play there, otherwise it would be another key attraction, and we would definitely return. Pauanui is isolated, so is very quiet, although apparently very crowded in peak holiday times.
