"Tranquility Base"

We booked this location based on a solid recommendation from family. But some of the reviews here were perplexing and had us arriving with a question mark beside or expectations. On reflection I'm firmly of the opinion that these reviews perhaps say as much about the author as the place. LOL! Our arrival to this vibrant beach resort town presented an immediate contradiction. Instead of turning left and heading for the sand and sun, we turned right and headed for the hills, the native bush and the shade. Kind of like boarding a plane and turning left. Puka Park's environment was simply inspiring. Hilly and stunningly beautiful. Our reception matched. Genuinely warm and friendly, not the plastic off the shelf professionally trained stuff that is so often encountered. And it turned out that all the staff we encountered were similarly skilled. As club members we were offered free wifi and when I mentioned previous reviews indicating it being charged for, I was informed that all guests if not members were offered free membership which included wifi. You only pay if you choose not to sign up. So no problem here. We were taken to our private chalets in a golf cart (which is available with a call to reception and seems to appear in seconds as if it were parked just around the corner). Our room was simply wonderful. Everything clean and tidy and all the appliances worked. After a modem reset our wifi worked well. But why would you care with stunning bush views, peace and bird song so get lost in. This place is first class and deserves every consideration for a stay. The hills are not a problem and being able to enjoy the beach but not live with sand getting into everything and in such a tranquil environment is simply wonderful.

"A must stay in the Coromandel Penninsula!"

I can not rave enough about this exceptional resort! Beautifully set in a tropical rainforest, our chalet was more like a cozy, romantic tree hut. With only the sounds of the local birds and occasional gentle rain, it was a magical escape. And the friendly, professional staff exceeded all expectations. It felt like a warm hug every day! Special thanks to Bradley, their manager, as well as Lauren, Sean and Nisha! We missed Our Puka Park experience so much that we cancelled our next hotel on the last night just to return one more night. We will return....

"Dinner "

We rang to book for a table of four at short notice they explained they were fully booked but were able to accommodate us on the terrace on the condition we came at 5 pm and vacated by 6.45pm. We were very happy to do this and were not disappointed. They sat us in a very sheltered part of the terrace and and their service was friendly and efficient. All the meals were very nice I personally enjoyed the fresh snapper fish on scalloped potato with tomato chutney which was really nice. Two of the others enjoyed the venison and the last member of our party had the chicken which they said was good. The chocolate walnut brownie was also delicious. All in all a very pleasant experience and we were not made to feel rushed which was good. I look forward to revisiting on my next visit to Pauanui.

"A pleasant stay"

We stayed at Puka Park Resort for two nights just after Christmas. The resort is a very peaceful and tranquil place. Our chalet was very comfortable and well equipped and we enjoyed to good nights sleep. The inclusive breakfasts were beautiful with a wide choice on offer. The staff were all very helpful and efficient so why did I not give it five stars. Visitors need to be aware the resort is on a steep hill and I mean steep. From our chalet number 5 to breakfast we negotiated 87 steps down and 87 steps back up. We walked down into the town both nights and needed oxygen to walk back to our chalet and I consider us both to be very fit. Finally wifi. What hotel in this day and age asks a guest to pay for the most basic of wifi access? That policy does I suggest need reviewing. We registered our displeasure at this policy by not paying and getting online in a pub in the town and eating dinner there as well. I would be interested to know from the management why they stick with this policy. That said a pleasant enough stay.

"Tranquil Retreat"

Everything about our stay was perfect. Service was amazing, special mention to Heidi & Lauren for their outstanding customer service and for going out of their way for us. The rooms (Chalets) were a good size, completely private from others in the resort, clean & modern with everything you need, large TV's, large ensuites. The restaurant offers amazing views across the tops of the trees towards Pauanui. Food was very nice, service a little slow, the summer dinner buffets are very popular here. There is a fantastic pool, hot-tub and sauna area to enjoy and a well equipped gym/fitness centre. Cant wait to come back and stay here again.
