"Great location vey convenient for public transportation"
My 10 day cycle trip, with NZ Pedal Tours started at this hotel. FYI amazing cycle tour company. I checked in two nights earlier and found the hotel be be just perfect. I took a public bus from the airport to this hotel and walked into town.
"Nice grounds, average rooms and horrible restaurant staff - not a HIlton standard"
I stayed here for work from 15-17 Feb. There was a mix up at the front desk at the time of check in. They couldn't find my booking even though I had a meeting with the banquet manage that same day. Anyway the event manager sorted that out. The room I got was dark and dingy overlooking the parking - I requested a room change and got a new room, which was definitely better and sunny. The hotel itself is quite nice, different and grounds are beautiful. However it definitely lacks something - having worked for a brand such as Marriott and having stayed at many 5 stars I didn't think this deserves the tag of a luxury hotel. The location is quite good, with a few restaurants nearby 5 minute walking distance. The staff over all feels very new, untrained and clueless at times. The event for which I stayed went quite well - not problems with the event or banquet team ( they were great and did their job well). The worst is the Garden Court Brassiere experience me and my colleague had - the staff is extremely unprofessional (old and grumpy). I'm not an ageist at all and my description of old and grumpy isn't a reflection on the age bracket part of it but rather how unhappy they seemed to be doing their jobs. I was asked so rudely that the buffet breakfast had ended to which I said I wasn't here for buffet, I want a la carte, simple eggs benedict. To which the lady pretended that she couldn't understand me - and believe me I don't have a weird accent that people can't fathom. The same treatment over lunch, rude and unfriendly - I hated giving my money to them at the end. The food is also pure average and not worth the price and not Hilton standard. Overall the experience was quite strange, I felt like I was in the hands of a new untrained and unprofessional team - rooms were not bad and the bathrooms were good too.
This was our first hotel stop on our roadtrip around New Zealand. The quality of the hotel and staff were excellent as was the evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Very friendly hotel in a good location just a walk across the park to the city centre.
"Lovely Hilton with pretty gardens"
This well placed Hilton is a 25 minute walk across the park from central Christchurch, making it an ideal place to stay whilst in the city. We walked in for supper the evening we were there which was very pleasant. The room was a reasonable size with a well appointed bathroom including a bath which I like. Everywhere was spotless. We stopped in at the bar on our way out for supper which was a little drab and corporate looking, fine for a drink but I'm not sure I'd want to eat there. The gardens just outside the bar however were delightful, very English with lots of roses and Dahlias, a lovely place to sit. Breakfast the following morning was the normal buffet, which was sadly not up to the normal Hilton standard, the waiting staff were harassed and we had to ask for our table to be cleaned, sadly it wasn't a particularly pleasant experience - hence the 4 stars.
"Ticks all the boxes"
Great hotel. Nice friendly and helpful personnel and provided with an Honors upgraded room. Well appointed rooms with comfortable beds. Restaurant food very good and reasonable price. Location is close to the park which you can walk across to the city center. Hotel is set in beautiful gardens.
