"Average resort"

   22-09-2017
I visited in September 2017 with my family. The expectations were high as compared to what we saw. The reception and entrance is good but we were a bit disappointed by the rooms. Though they were sea facing, the rooms need maintenance urgently, one of the rooms ac was not working though it was repaired when we called house keeping, it was not a pleasant experience and it happened cos the ac was old and there was a paper stub holding its fins. Then it was turn of the room key holder to fall off. It caused the room light to go off. Again we called the house keeping, they applied fevi kwick to it and it was repaired. They gave us the slippers and dental kit to us when we asked for it. The food is not up to the mark. This property is not for senior citizens cos there is a lot of steep slopes to climb even when going to the restaurant everyday for breakfast. The food is catering to foreigners taste and not according to Indian taste. It is also very expensive and less quantity. The staff at the restaurant are least concerned if you have want anything and we felt as if we were not welcome but a burden on them. Sorry to say this but this is what we felt. The omlette we ordered was served cold after many reminders and such other instances made us feel so. All in all a okish property!!

"Stay elsewhere!"

When you arrive in reception you think you're in for a real treat - that's as far as it goes I'm afraid. We were shown to our room where the first thing that hit us was the smell of damp - it was awful. To say the room was dark would be an understatement, it was awful. We were shown how to use the air con and left alone. Upon entering the bathroom, we discovered it had no roof! It was outdoors! I wasn't keen on using the bathroom in the night with the insects, or showering in the morning for that matter! I called reception and asked to be moved, they said they would show us another room in 20 mins. 2hrs later we were still st in our room waiting. We gave up and went to reception and asked again. We were then taken to another room, thankfully the bathroom had a roof! The smell of damp was still awful. We agreed to take the room, we were asked what was wrong with the first room, when we told the young lady she told us that was the style of a traditional cottage, she was clearly annoyed with us for moving! We witnessed 3 other people during our two night stay asking to be moved. Breakfast was good, although the staff were painfully slow. As for lunch - save your money. We had a problem checking in for our flight home, we asked at reception if they would call Jet Airways Mumbai office for us to sort it out, the young girl on reception was very helpful, the manager looked on, when I finished the call he asked for my room number. On the morning we checked out I asked to settle our bill, it was then I discovered we'd been hit with a bill for the phone call - INR1500, for a call to Mumbai. The manager was sat there, I told him I thought it was very poor that we had been charged for the call in the first place, let alone the cost of it. He looked at me with utter contempt before walking off. I had also seen him act the same with a couple who were trying to complain to him about the restaurant and the food they had received. When I unpacked my suitcase upon my arrival home, the whole case stank of damp. I was glad to leave, just a shame my 3 week holiday to India ended in a hotel like this.

"Good but could be great"

   07-09-2017
We (two couples) have just spent two enjoyable weeks at this hotel. The grounds are wonderful and there is a great view from the beach view rooms. The staff are very helpful and mostly very friendly. We thought the restaurant staff were particularly excellent and the food was good although after a couple of weeks the generally unchanging buffet was much less appealing. There were many Indian families staying around the time of the Onam festival and this made for a good atmosphere. Having tried many nearby beaches, we felt the one next to the hotel is one of the best and even in rough weather it's possible to paddle and swim in the shallow areas as long as you are careful not to go too far from shore. The lifeguards seemed to keep a watchful eye on people in the sea. The main downside is the noise from the beach - every morning at 5am there is a series of loud gongs to wake up the fishermen, which unfortunately will also wake up everyone at that end of the hotel. This alone would be fine to manage as you can usualy drop off again, but on 2-3 days a week, the church near the beach has loudspeaker assisted singing and sermons that also start at 4.45-5am and go on for up to two hours. This was a real strain. The management has apparently tried to negotiate with them to start later but with little success, and maybe need to invest in some noise proofing of windows at the beach. There were also renovations going on in part of the hotel about which we were not warned. As it happened, this did not greatly bother us but I know that other guests nearer to the areas being upgraded were not so happy. Once finished, apparently later in September, this will not be a problem. We took a look at some nearby hotels and felt that, overall, we were lucky to be at the Travancore. With a few adjustments this could be a really excellent place to stay.

"once a good resort now on a downward spiral"

   03-09-2017
To start with we were given room of a lower category than we have booked and they said it is overbooked (wondering was it my fault that i booked here??) , dust rooms , to top it restaurant is half functioning and most of the items listed is unavailable.. i guess thy have lost it... was a good place once up on a time...

"Good hotel with an average staff and services"

   31-08-2017
The location and the view from the hotel are mesmerizing but the room conditions spoil the stay. The rooms need renovations which we were although informed by the manager . we booked a room which was later upgraded as it was under renovation but the upgraded room itself was pathetic. So i had to discuss with the manager Any how he did upgrade us to another room which was said to be there best category. To us tat too was not upto the mark. They need to improve there rooms. V were not asked to pay for the room upgraded but the manner with which the manager spoke to us was not good . they need to learn hospitality and the way to speak with the guests.
