"Chilled out place to stay in Luang Prabang"
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Villa Maydou. had a lovely spacious room overlooking the pool (yes, it is green - due to the green tiles!! - and very refreshing). It's a pretty laid back atmosphere, great for kicking back late afternoon after day time wanderings. I agree that the upper rooms are probably best - we were upstairs with a lovely balcony with day bed and comfy chair, in the 'Traditional' building. It's a 15 min walk to the centre of town, which was fine for us - we appreciated the walk back each evening after another great meal.
"Nice settings and location"
We stayed in Villa Maydou for 4 nights and can say that overall we liked the place. This is an architect structure, recently renovated and very nice for the eye. The downside is that the services were not in line with the settings. We constantly had hot water shortage and the bicycles were never available. Breakfast was very good but inconsistent; the restaurant had only one dish and is quite expensive compared to street restaurants. Dry cleaning was also quite poorly done. Giving the wood settings, there is a lot of cracking noise from other rooms. Will I stay there again? I could but would prefer exploring other places first.
The hotel is very stylish with wood but not at all practical if you get the lower rooms. The noises from upstairs sound soo loud & you keep praying that the guests staying above you settle down fast. The room has no provisions to make yourself a hot drink.Beds i found were very hard. Breakfast was very meagre.First time we were asked to choose between eggs or soup. They ran out of chicken, fish & ice-cream which we found very inconvenient. Staff are gentle & pleasant but very inefficient .There was no effort made by anyone there to make us feel welcome .Overall experience was disappointing & it wasn't value for money.
"Stylish and friendly"
stayed for four nights (three nights in one room and the fourth in another room because of travelling). Both rooms were lovely, spacious and clean. All the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed the bar, the restaurant (for both breakfast and dinner) and the swimming pool, even though it took a while to get used to the green tiles used in the pool! We also had a massage. The massage room was clean and pleasant and the massage was good. Overall, we would definitely recommend this hotel.
"A gem in a garden"
This lodging is hidden in the backyard garden of a Buddhist wat. It consists of five buildings representing different building traditions in Laos. It’s more like a bungalow area in a well-kept orchard than a hotel in the traditional meaning. My room was in the Tradition 1925 building. The design of the buildings and the interior of the rooms try to comply with the Laotian style and architecture as much as possible. My room had all the modern amenities, though, it was spacious, clean and the furniture was comfy. I didn’t like the creaking floor planks. Also the shower hose was so short I had to shower my head on the knees. The breakfast was served in a terrace of one of the buildings. I missed more options, but never left hungry after breakfast. The pool is not big, but the pool area is really beautiful. I liked the natural design of the hotel and orchard-like environment. The service was really kind, but did not meet the standard I expected. The location is not perfect, it’s 15 – 20 minutes from the centre by walk and 7 – 10 minutes by tuk-tuk
