"Family holiday in paradise"
We visited Anantara Dhigu for 9 nights from April 8th till April 17th 2017. I have traveled with my wife and two children (6 and 9 years old). As for our background, this was our first time in Maldives, but we have traveled before to beach destinations for example to Mayan Riviera in Mexico, Tioman Island in Malaysia, Florida, Seychelles, Sardinia, Greek islands… Our biggest worry was the weather as we have first planed to travel in April, but have had to change the plans and went during rainy season. After the advice from Tripadvisor forum members and from our agent Purely Maldives we have decided to take our chances. What a great decision. First six days were very sunny with very little or no wind. The seventh day was overcast all day, basically did not see the sun. But we did not mind at all as it gave us a break from the strong sun and we could still swim and enjoy the island. The eighth day was sunny again with afternoon bringing strong wind and a short shower (15 minutes). The ninth day was mixed weather with sun and clouds and some wind. Overall we had great weather. We flew with Emirates and the service was good as usual. We were transferred by beautiful yacht Naladhu to the resort and not even two hours since we landed we have been welcomed at the resort. The staff were playing drums and singing on arrival with smiling faces. What a welcome! We were staying in a sunrise villa (room 74). The room was large and comfortable enough to fit all four of us. We really liked the outdoor bathroom, the comfortable beds and complimentary Nespresso coffee machine. Next time we would probably asked for Sunrise beach villas 22-54 or stay on the Sunset side as they have a nicer beach in our opinion. Overall we were happy with our room; in fact it surpassed our expectations. The resort is not new, but well maintained, I would describe it as a 4.5 star resort. The beaches are beautiful all over the island, the lagoon is coral debris free and deep enough to swim even in low tide. Just perfect for our kids. The best snorkeling we found on the sunset side especially in front of the Sea Salt Fire restaurant where the resort planted corals. We have seen all kinds of fishes in the lagoon including Stingrays, Unicorn fishes, Titan Trigger fishes and Lionfish. I understand that compare to other Maldivian resorts there is virtually no snorkeling, but we expected that and were actually surprised how much we have seen. We have stayed on Half Board bases. Breakfast was delicious and always found something new to eat. We were able to eat dinner at any restaurant on Dhigu or Veli. We have tried them all and all of them were very good. For us Sea Salt Fire and Origami were the best, but it really comes down to your personal taste. Children can eat lunch for free including drinks and ice cream at Aqua restaurant by the pool. Also, bottled water is complimentary in your room (as much as you want). They even bring you the cold water to your sun bed by the pool. You have to pay drinks at dinners which can add up pretty quickly and be expensive, but again we expected that so no surprises there. Generally the service was very good; I would like to mention Tima who was in charge of the kid’s club. She was great with our kids making sure they did not get bored. As our daughter took a surfing lessons we would like to mention also Fiona and Josh from the surf shop who have absolutely got her excited for this kind of sport. Another person who made our stay even more wonderful was Shaheen, who has lost few words with us during a breakfast to cheer us and gave us some additional information about Maldives. At last but not least we would like to mention our always smiling room boy Iqbal providing beautiful service by cleaning our room twice everyday and making sure we have full comfort. Our transfer back to the airport was very bumpy due to the very windy weather. All windows had to be closed and therefore it was very hot and humid in the boat. I was drenched in 5 minutes, air-conditioned boat would be nice. Pros: • Beautiful beaches all around the island. When it is windy on one side of the island you can just go to the other side where the sea is calm as a pool. • Great food • Short transfers from airport • Sandy sea floor and lagoon deep enough for swimming Cons: • Limited snorkeling • No direct sea view from your room due to dense vegetation • No drinks packages available Overall we were very happy with our vacation and would highly recommend the resort. The resort did not feel overcrowded and had a traditional Maldivian feel. Lots of vegetation and tall palm trees. Most visitors were from Asia apparently due to their holiday season. Most of the times we were almost deserted on the beach and in the water. Choosing a resort was a challenge as there are so many resorts to choose from but thankfully to Purely Maldives and their help we had a great trip.
"Stunning lagoon, gorgeous villa but below standard food"
My husband and I honeymooned here about a year ago. The location of this resort and the beautiful lagoon that surrounds it was just incredible. I cannot fault the beauty of this place. However, two issues really stood out. 1. There was rubbish strewn along the beach when we arrived - not the best welcome or sight to behold. We complained to staff but it took ages for them to clean it up (hours). The rubbish and time it took to clean up were surprising to us given the calibre of the resort and given it was low season and the resort was largely unoccupied. 2. We were a little shocked and disappointed with the poor quality of the food and the outrageous prices. Obviously we expected that food would be a little costlier at such a 5 star resort and given how remote it is (costs of having food shipped over etc). But some of the meals were simply inedible (the fish from our fish and chips meal was rubbery and difficult to cut with a knife, the chips were extremely oily). A plate of spaghetti bolognese will set you back $37USD, but the portion size and quality of this dish was severely lacking for the price charged and calibre of this resort. We did have a really delicious steak for dinner at their main restaurant one night and it was great (but again, cost about $100 USD just for the main meal). I really love my food and am happy to spend money on it, especially on our honeymoon! But I was really disappointed with the standard of food - hopefully this has improved over the past year. On a more positive note, we stayed at a beach front villa rather than an over water bungalow and we were really happy with it. The sand was soft and white and perfectly off set by the aqua colours of the lagoon - a beautiful site to wake up to everyday. Walking around the island and swimming in the lagoon was heaven. We watched the most incredible storm roll over us, the colours were spectacular and didn't at all detract from our holiday - nature at it's wildest and most beautiful! The villa itself was lovely and the outdoor shower was wonderful. The resort staff were friendly and surprised us with a honeymoon message on our bed, which was a sweet touch. Aside from the food and rubbish on the beach, we were really happy with the resort and service from staff, and had a wonderfully relaxing and memorable honeymoon.
I just celebrated my 31st birthday in Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and everything was just perfect! My fiancé and I had the most amazing time in this paradise. We've travelled extensively and we have to agree that it would be very difficult to top this experience. We reckon that there's nowhere else more beautiful and relaxing than this place. We were pampered like royalties since day one. Their intuitive service is just admirable. I couldn't thank them enough for going above and beyond just to give me the best birthday ever but let me try :) Thank you so much to our travel consultant/reservation specialist Liezl. You're the best! Also thanks to Chef Simone and Chef Paolo for the amazing meal in the island. The lobster was to die for. And to the staff we've known along the way, thank you so much for the hospitality and top-notch customer service. We will always cherish the smiles, the good-mornings and the effort you devoted to ensure that we have a comfortable stay. Thanks to Azeeza, Susan, Shifaz, Shakeem (sorry, might have misspelled this one. He's Azee's friend) and the guys in Terrazzo.I wish I could mention all of you but I'm just so forgetful however we're planning to be back real soon. Will definitely see you again!
"Outstanding hotel, with exceptional service"
My wife and I stayed at Dhigu for 5 night in a sunrise villa overlooking a beautiful white sandy beach. I can only sum up my stay in one word : OUTSTANDING!!! The highest standard of hospitality, friendliness and authenticity at Dhigu, is what every luxury hotel should aspire to. Bravo for making our stay memorable, we can't wait to go back with our kids. Sam
"Couple, friends, family"
We travelled as a couple, met friends and already planning next trip with kids On day two of seven we found a few bugs in our beach villa bed. Within hours of reporting this to guest relations the team suggested a room upgrade to over water villa. Fabulous initiative and really made us feel valued as customers. There was low ish occupancy but this kind gesture really was above and beyond the call of duty...and definitely appreciated. Thanks team Anantara Dhigu
