Voor duikers is dit het mekka; de rijke onderwaterwereld biedt fraaie koraalriffen en een enorm scala bont gekleurde koraalvissen, zeesterren en ander dergelijk moois. "Overall positive experience of paradise & with an extra lick here & there it could just be perfect!"
KIHAAD resort for us provided that tranquil and paradise effect which we were looking for so a thumbs up for this positive feeling, and large enough for it not to be considered claustrophobic. The jewel on the island is the Spa - we had the most amazing massage of our lives and it really needs to be exploited - definitely a 5 star rating here. The beaches were clean, fantastic, umbrellas spaced out nicely that you are not sitting on your neighbour and you never had to fight to obtain your sunbeds & gazebo. Staff were exceptionally polite and efficient. Having the kids with us was a plus certainly recommend the resort for children. Although I would suggest that a more active and dynamic kids activity plan should be assembled for guests on a daily basis. Positively, a clinic and doctor on tap who was extremely helpful & who provided us with immediate medical attention when we needed it - did not go unnoticed either. We did not opt for the full board option and would have liked to have had a further choice for eating at lunch and dinner at a different restaurant, having said that, during our entire stay we ate extremely well and there was an appropriate choice of different international dishes to select from for us all. A couple of drawbacks: the gym is rather tired looking and could do with the machines that work as some didn't and daily activities like a class or two would help draw people in. The suites, also were rather plain, I would recommend providing guests with a fresh bowl of fruit daily - seeing as there was an abundance of fruit at breakfast. Also some of the bathroom sanitory taps etc were already worn & rusty looking. Having the bathroom shower external to the suite was a fantastic plus nevertheless and was an original touch to the room. So as the title describes if the owners can do some finishing touches it really is cool and we would consider returning which, in my opinion, is the best comment anyone can offer.
"Nature and hotel's look & design are much better, than service. But local people are really nice."
We stayed at Kihaad during a week in mid December. Booked by Booking.com already in summer with a significant discount, although the price hasn't changed much during the whole period before the trip. Around 40% of staying at the island were Chinese, 30% Italians, 20% Russians, 10% the rest. PERFECT Welcoming. We were met with all possible attention. The whole design of the jetty, the reception and, as noted further, of the whole island was very beautiful, usable, easy and friendly. Apartment. We took Lagoon Prestige Beach villa. It appeared to be very nice, freshly decorated and clean, with a quiet beach in 15-20 meters. Water was clean and deep well enough, which is sometimes a problem with Maldives: one could swim and bathe. Room cleaning was 5 out of 5 points. Nature. It is very beautiful at the island. Stingray feeding, although without sharks coming, is worth watching. Local Reef is very beautiful, with dozens of different kinds of fish, is available for snorkeling in the beach close to main jetty. We also took a snorkeling tour for some $20 per person for an hour, sailed around a kilometer on a boat, and besides fish saw turtles, sharks. Once there were dolphins very close with the island. Beach. Is perfect around the whole island, with the sand not becoming hot on the sun: wooden deck was always much hotter. BAD Service on the reception was poor, when accomplished by locals: though they were always very friendly, but never fulfilled any task without several additional remindings and never in the proper way. Only when Chinese, or Russian girls were available, everything was accomplished successfully. Food. Generally the food at the hotel did not correspond to a 5 star hotel. This worked for all food options, including Beach barbecue and Romantic dinner. Although, one would never stay hungry - buffet was quite well and bars offered big portions. The regular rule here: Asian food is tasty and delicious, but all kinds of European style food will be with a high probability lousy. Spice restaurant. Worst service on the island - at least. Food was always expensive and lousy: they would never prepare any seafood without spoiling it, even when fresh. Service. As mentioned, local people were very friendly and nice in communication. But they do lack training. MORE OR LESS. SPA. Is 7 out of 10 points. Water sports facility. We took Jet Ski 2 times. Twice the time in fact was less than proclaimed 25 minutes (including bonus). Resume. The hotel is not a luxurious one. Yet it is a value for money, and if you look for perfect nature and eye pleasing design - Kihaad is the correct place.
Second stay for us on Kihaad. Fantastic island with lovely beaches and fantastic waters. The hotel has been renovated, but it's not yet quite up to the standard of a five star establishment, please see pics. Staff's terrific. But the persons working at the front desk are very distant minded and not at all communicative and doesn't seem to be updated on what's going on, there was no information on "Managers Night" or "White Night", we stil don't know what those were, and everyone we asked answered differently. Also when paying on checking out they don't seem to see you and doesn't say a word, not even have a good flight home, thank you or anything like that. Bad last impression. Needs improvement. It seems like there may be a lack of information from the management. We were not "all-inclusive-guests", had only breakfast included, we booked everything ourselves, no charter company involved, don't know if that has anything to do with lacking information. However they are all very nice people. News for this year, Dec 2016, was the loud and monotonous music in all the restaurant areas. To us it was not what you are expecting from a tropical island......on one occasion we asked if the music could be turned down a little, but there was instantly some of the management there and turned it up again. A little annoying.
"Beware of the expensive diving cener"
The hotel is great. They have done a good job at enhancing the facilities with the new pool - I won't comment the hotel, I do recommend. Though I think the hotel has to reconsider its prices at the diving center. I've been to many hotels in Maldives (Kuredu and White sands to name a few) and I have to say that the diving center prices are very high: - 60$ per dive (58$ per dive if you take 6 dives - what an offer!) But the worst is the renting equipment - be sure you have everything - They charge $10 per equipment and per dive. This means that if you do two dives in the morning and rent a BCD, you'll be charged $20. As you would imagine, if you start renting more equipment (computer, wetsuit, regulator, etc) and keep a pace of two dives per day you will pay more than the full price of those equipment. This demonstrate a total lack of professionalism from the diving center which is nothing compare to bigger diving center such as the one of kuredu where the equipment was priced much better. I also have to mention something completely crazy. My parents booked a snorkeling activity and wanted to swim with life vest on (to feel safer with current). Not only the boat didn't have life vest (great security procedure!) but we have been charged $20 for the usage of 2 life vest for less than an hour. I complaint about it at the reception desk but they didn't remove this from our bill. It's funny how the hotel (or should I say the management of Antonio from the diving center) think we should pay for safety. The hotel manager should really reconsider its pricing policy if he wants to attract divers and not just honeymooners.
"Leaving Customers Stranded on Another Island!!!!"
Kihaad bills itself as a paradise resort, however logistically it is anything but this. Numerous guests are being left today and yesterday on Dharavandhoo, particularly by Kihaad boat number 2, that has stranded international customers during this high traffic Christmas holiday. Several are staying on other Islands. To get to Kihaad you take a local flight from Male, Maldives to Dharavandhoo Island. After arrival you take a bus to a boat dock where one of Kihaad boat is supposed to be waiting to take you. Kihaad boat 2 has left several guests stranded during this holiday. They have either refused to pick up guests, or neglected to meet them upon arrival. In my instance the Kihaad boat 2 "captain" when leaving myself and my wife stranded said "there should be another boat, I have somewhere else to go, it is not my problem". This is the truth about their service during peak travel times. More than one guest has been left stranded on Dharavandhoo, particularly by Kihaad boat #2. If they do not care to pick you up, you and your family will be standing out in the open on the waters edge with dozes of locals watching you and circling. It is a high-security issue with your luggage and documents, and it is not something that Kihaad cares about in peak season. There is no point in spending money to stay at this resort given their serious logistical lapses that are ongoing as I write this.
