"Excellent Stay, Insane Fun and Total Unwinding - A perfect vacation"
To begin with, it would be really difficult to sum up this awesome experience in such few words. We stayed here from 15-20th Sep 2016. What an amazing time we spent. A special thanks to the whole Kuramathi staff for making our stay bliss full. We planned our arrival flight in the morning, since sea plane transfers are not available after 3pm. I confirmed this from their concierge. From Male international airport there is an internal transfer to Trans Maldivian Airways. Kuramathi has a private lounge here with snacks and wifi. We waited for about an hour here to board the sea plane. I must say I was excited to fly in a sea plane and it was total fun. I think coming to Maldives this is a must have experience. The journey was short (approx. 30 minutes). The sea plane made 1 stop enroute to our resort. The plane drops you in a floating platform approx. 200meters from the resort. We boarded a speed boat to the resort from there. Our adrenaline started running high right from the moment we stepped down on the jetty. I could see people snorkeling close to the jetty. The reception is big and the whole process of check in was tad too long. We were really tired from our overnight flight and had to wait at the reception for about 45 minutes until all the formalities were done. Front desk was very polite and helpful though. Actually the resort itself is a big island (~3kms long). So it takes about 30 minutes just to explain the key features. After this a golf car (buggy) took us to our room. Now we realized how big the island is actually. First time the journey seemed never ending however later we walked the same distance too. It was fun. One important thing is – After check in, the buggies will drop you right to the room but later go only up to a certain point (Farivalhu restaurant – the last stop). We booked a sun set pool villa. So we had to walk approx. 300meters to the buggy stop. For people staying at the far end of the Island in the over water villas, it would be a long walk every time you want to go anywhere. Although we enjoyed walking everywhere and skipped many buggy rides. We booked a sunset pool villa for the first 3 nights. I have no option but to give 10/10 on cleanliness, ambience, comfort and quality. They have cleaning schedules maybe around 3times per day. No matter how bad we messed up the bed, they made sure the room was spotless every time we walked in. The view from our villa was awesome and I guess every villa has an awesome view. Every morning, we saw reef sharks swimming right below us. They would come right up to the beach and don’t mind circling you if you stand knee deep in water. One morning I saw a baby ray. By 10-11am they were gone. On the first day of arrival, we took the couple massage. It was amazing and a 10/10 for the perfect ambiance and massage quality. We chose the outdoor option in the gazebo right in the reef and seriously it cannot get better than this. We took a basic all-inclusive package, that included breakfast and lunch in one particular restaurant that they choose based on the room location and drinks in all the bars (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). The package also includes snorkeling gear which has to be self-collected and returned before departure + a nearby island tour + a sunset cruise. The full inclusive package gives you the option of ala carte dining in all restaurants I guess. The food was super awesome in Farivalhu. The Maldivian touch makes it a bit spicy which was bang on our taste. We gorged and gorged like there’s no tomorrow. Never felt the need for an ala carte. But our favorite retreat was the Laguna bar & pool. The perfect ambiance to sip on your drinks. The waiters were very friendly and cocktails were great. It has 2 infinity pools. One deep enough to swim and the other mostly for kids and non-swimmers I guess. Most of the drinks are priced around USD10-15 if not on all-inclusive. For our last 2 nights we booked a Deluxe Beach Villa with Jacuzzi. Right inside the room we felt the difference. These rooms are old compared to our sunset pool villa. We did not like it at first probably because we were comparing with the sun set villa but then slowly adjusted. The Jacuzzi was real good and felt expensive. Rest everything are average. They changed our buffet restaurant as we shifted towards the center of the island now. We were assigned Malaafaiy restaurant this time. But Farivalhu was the best for us. Dhoni bar is attached to Malaafaiy. Excellent bar with over water and beach sitting arrangements. There is a dive center, aqua sports center and excursion center, where tours can be pre-booked. For beginners they provide lessons too for a price. I took a lesson in snorkeling (~50USD) as this was new to me. The guide was very nice and after the first lesson I was snorkeling all alone in the reef. I did my first dive here which is one of the most amazing experience in my life. Luckily I got a one on one with my guide. She first gave me some basic lessons and tests in shallow water before going deep. We dived 12meters and I am pretty sure now that I am getting my diving license by mid of 2017. The sunset cruise was pretty dull with just couples talking to each other. Probably I am saying this because last year we were in the Caribbeans and the sunset cruise was a carnival with rocking music, dance and cocktails and the same, year before in Cape Town. Actually what I felt was the vibe in Maldives is bit different. It’s more like a peaceful ambience than a party one. So nothing negative there. I would like to mention and send a special thanks to Mr. Rameez from the island photo shop for his excellent attitude and kind help. After the first two days, to my horror I found I left my DSLR charger back home. The brain got ticking and as a final hope I went to the island photo shop. Mr. Rameez, did not had my charger but took the pain to search for it among his friends and luckily found one. I left the battery overnight with him and in the morning it was at 100%. I cannot thank you in words for this kind help. I managed to finally reach home with still 50% of charge intact. We bought some souvenirs from the island shop. I was afraid that I might have overpaid but the same stuff in duty free airport were priced at double the amounts. So buying from the island shop proved to be a good decision. But the boutique is overpriced. Overall I would rate 10/10 for accommodation, ambience, attitude, adventures. I really feel words cannot explain the beauty of this place. Hence I tried my best to put all the experience together in my YouTube travelogue as “chandan'straveloguesâ€. Some of the improvements that management should pay attention to- 1. The DJs should seriously improve upon their song selection. Both in Laguna and Fung bar we were disappointed by DJ Foxy and Arnel. DJ Foxy should learn how to mix tracks and should not ruin great numbers with her own beats. She did messed up a lot of songs which sounded perfect in their original beats. Probably the reason we saw no one in the dance floor. 2. Some of the waiters in Farivalu had a sad/stressed expression on their face all the time we saw them during our stay. I do not remember the names but management should look into this to see if people are fatigued or something. 3. The buggy wait sometimes get on nerves. Many times it was much more than the mentioned 15 minutes. Also twice we were waiting at the buggy stop and the buggy just took another route and missed us. This was very frustrating and we ended up walking the whole distance. But all the buggy drivers are real polite and welcoming. I would like to mention Mr. Kumar for his exceptional service. 4. Management should provide some beer cans in the mini bar for all-inclusive package. Although there are cans but they are paid. On enquiry reception told me we can hand carry few cans from the bars to our room. It is ridiculous to walk with beer cans from bars to accommodation. Anyway since we can take it from the bar, why not just include the 4 cans in the mini bar itself. 5. The wifi was slow in our beach front villa but no qualms about that since you are not in Maldives to surf the internet.
"Beautiful island & great food, but resort needs updating"
Just got back from our honeymoon, stayed at Kuramathi Island Resort for a total of 7 nights. All in all our stay was pretty good but I wouldn't say it was honeymoon worthy. Below I've provided my thoughts on the experience which I hope will help with anyone planning to visit this resort. Weather - The weather didn't go in our favor on this trip. The first two days were absolutely beautiful with bright blue skies but the following 4 days it rained and was cloudy. These weren't quick showers either, rain and clouds literally lasted all of 4 days and only cleared up on our last day. This wasn't the resorts fault of course, but we found there weren't many activities here for rainy days other than the gym and spa. I'd recommend avoiding the monsoon season if you can! Rooms - The first 5 nights we spent in a Superior Beach Villa with jacuzzi on the Southern (older) part of the island near the main reception. Unfortunately, these are very old rooms and there's not much to them - the jacuzzi didn't even work and the beds were rock solid! Also the bathroom (including toilet) is outside so not very sanitary, I found a couple of bugs and geico's in the bathroom at night. In general it wasn't worth the money we paid for. After asking 3 times for an upgrade (which we were willing to pay for) we finally moved to a 2 story Beach Villa on the newer part of the island. This made our stay much better and we finally started to feel like we were on a honeymoon rather than just a regular holiday. Everything was new and updated and these villa's are literally "on the beach" rather than a short walk away. Food - We went with select all inclusive. I highly recommend this option as it gives you the chance to sample the amazing restaurants on the island. The food was brilliant - best I've ever tasted and the cocktails and all inclusive wine options weren't bad either! I can't really comment on the buffets as we only went there for breakfast but our favorite lunch spot was Palm with Duniye, Kobe and Island Barbeque as favorite dinner spots. Service - Service in the restaurants and spa was amazing, everyone was very nice and attentive but outside of this I wasn't generally impressed. When you get to the reception everything is a bit chaotic which isn't exactly what you want after a long journey. We found the house keeping a bit slow as well, one day we had to call 3 times to have someone make up our room. We also asked for an upgrade 3 times before I found out someone got a complimentary room upgrade on Instagram (when we were willing to pay!). Only after we complained did they finally upgrade us but we still had to pay. Island - The overall island was beautiful. Despite the weather, it had some of the clearest water and whitest sand I've ever seen. It's also one of the biggest islands with plenty of choices for food and water activities (snorkeling was amazing). They also provide little golf carts to get you from one end of the island to the other which was very helpful at night! Kuoni - We booked our stay through Kuoni which I think was our biggest mistake. The reps on the island aren't very helpful and before we left we were told it would be easy for us to upgrade our rooms on the island if we wanted to - which didn't turn out to be the case. They didn't even book our airplane seats next to each other! Kuoni prides themselves as a luxury travel company but I would say they are just average. Our stay was good but to us it just didn't really feel like a proper honeymoon. If you are planning on Kuramathi for your honeymoon I would definitely look at rooms on the newer side of the island and pick select all inclusive. Also pick the seaplane transfer option to get you to the island (the seaboat was very choppy).
I stayed from 8th Oct x 12 nights and the resort was excellent. The weather was not very kind to us, we had lots of rain. The whole island is large but there are golf buggies to take you around. I stayed in a sunset water villa with pool and it was excellent, no sunsets to view due to poor weather. The villa has a large bed and bi folding doors across the whole villa with a lovely deck area and steps into the ocean, I use to swim early each morning from the steps. The pool is great too it has lights twinkling each evening. The restaurants are all fab, we had select all inclusive and that is the way to go, all drinks are really good and lots of cocktails to choose from. we ate in all restaurants twice and used the Palm and Igun at lunchtime and both are equally excellent. We had a delay going out from Manchester which meant we missed the flight connections but we were transferred to another flight with no problem but missed the sea plane and had to go by boat which did take 1 hour 20 mins, but it was ok, had the sea plane back which was brill. Take sea shoes and the walk into the sea can hurt your feet in some areas. The snorkelling is excellent especially near the pier area. we went on a excursion to see sea turtles and this was really good. The champagne loft is really lovely and you can have cava as part of the all inclusive it is open from 5pm each evening, do visit as the staff are very attentive. You get really good quality toiletries in your room each day, organic, so you don't really need to take shower jel, shampoo etc, you even get tooth brushes and tooth paste and nail files. There is limited shades around the Lagoona pool and on the baach, but lots of sun beds There are 3 swimming pools, 2 infinity pools and one family pool, all really good atmosphere. This resort is not cheap but well worth the expense, you get what you have paid for. I would love to return one day. The Spa is fab I had the Kuramthi Moment and a body wrap, the Kuramthi Moment is so romantic, (you get a bath with fruit and champagne) after your treatment, again not cheap but worth the money. If in doubt just book it!!
Excellent food, kind and smiling staff, perfect place for our honeymoon, great snorkeling experience. Beautiful sandbank, Dhoni bar was great and so was dj FoxxXxy at Laguna bar. Great variety of Coctails. Special Thanks to the staff of Malafaiy Restaurant.
