We stayed at Niyama 12 days over New Years 2017 and I can not find superlatives enough to describe this stunningly beautiful and absolutely amazing resort! We are a family who travel extensively and have stayed in many luxury resorts all over the world but Niyama blew us away. The resort is new and fresh and immaculately maintained. We stayed in a beach villa and it had the most amazing outside bathroom with a water pond, a very comfortable enormous bed and from the terrace with its oversized hammock it was just a few steps down to the crystal clear turquoise water. The restaurants were fantastic, we tried them all and our favourites were Edge and Nest. Edge is situated in the sea about 500 meters out from the beach and you get there in a little boat. The food ( sea food) was Michelin star quality and it was very special at night to enjoy dinner out at sea looking at all the fish swimming around in thr lit up water. The underwater bar next to Edge was very cool and while we were there we saw an octopus swim by! Nest gives you a complete jungel experience and especially our children enjoyed eating delicious food high up in the tree tops, very unique and special. Everywhere you go at Niyama there is complete perfection and attention to every little detail, towels in all restrooms are perfectly folded, fresh flowers everywhere, candles matching the napkins, beautiful shells decorating tables, menus with watercovers(!), popcorn machines in the rooms with matching popcorn containers etc.. such things that truly make a hotel 5 star. Most memorable of all however was the incredible staff! Everywhere you turned you were met with a smile and all staff were extremely kind, helpful and above all serviceminded. Out thakooro, Fatho was incredible and I would like to say a special thank you to him. He helped is with everything, picked us up, booked restaurants and was on call 24/7 without ever being intrusive. He was just fantastic. We travelled with 2 children, aged 5 and 7, and they totally fell in love with Adam who worked at Active and also led the beach activities such as the daily beach football. For our children, it was Adam alone that made their stay memorable! He was extremely kind and fun and took them swimming and snorkelling and explained about sea cucumbers and fish. Our children still talk about him! He was just fantastic! We will come back to Niyama, paradise on earth! Jenny from London
"The Complete Package!"
This is my third visit to Niyama! I spent my Christmas and New Year there 4 years ago, last year, and was there again a few weeks back for 2 weeks. It should say much that I keep coming back to this wonderful place, and I wasn't surprised to see some repeat guests from last year! I stayed at a beach studio and the room was large with all mod cons and tech. It had an Nespresso machine, popcorn maker and the Bose system in the room allowed you to stream media content from your android or iOS devices directly to the flat screen. Internet was through wifi, was complimentary and available not only in your rooms but throughout any building in the resort. Speeds were fast and you could easily watch youtube videos on high quality settings. This is my second trip advisor review of Niyama and I will have to repeat myself when I say that the service is top notch, sometimes embarrassingly so. In the 2 weeks that I was there, I don't recall ever having to raise my hand or call up a waiter for assistance as the waiting staff at the restaurants are most diligent and attentive and ready to tend to your needs even before you realise that you needed assistance. When I had asked for Earl Grey tea with soya milk for breakfast, they remembered my choices and would offer it to me everyday. Rooms are cleaned twice a day and were always kept clean. There is a wide range of dining options, Blu and Epicure offer breakfast buffet in the morning with a very wide choice to gorge upon from croissants, omelettes, fruits, rice with curries and congee and dumplings. Always looked forward to waking up for breakfast. The resort has some 5 or so restaurants which cater to a great variety of food types and the buffet dinner options have theme nights (Italian, Maldivian, Meditarranean etc) to keep things interesting. Edge, located in the middle of the ocean, offers fine dining options with wine tasting course options for the wine buffs. The Nest also offers teppanyaki. This was once again a family holiday and the kids were kept busy at Explorer, the resort's kids' club. They have a handful of full time staff and a diary of activities throughout the day to keep the little ones occupied and happy. Alternatively, there is Active, which has a virtual game unit, pool table, table tennis, majong table, ps4 and Xbox 360 - Active is more geared towards grown-ups but the kids tend to frequent the video game consoles. There are plenty of water activities to do, organised by FLOAT, and I went diving, jet skiing and parasailing in this trip. Didn't get time to use the seabob and I didn't get the courage to try out the aquatic jetpack (yep, they have them at Niyama!). Aside from bicycles which all adult guests are provided with, the resort also has a well equipped gym and I was on the treadmill most days to keep my weight and health in check. There are also frequent zumba sessions organized for guests in the gym or at one of the main swimming pools. Niyama also has a number of shops, offering jewellery and holidays items such as sun block lotion, goggles etc. One thing I omitted to mention in my earlier review was the thakuru system employed at Niyama. Guests are allocated their own personal assistant who is at the beck and call of the guest. Your thakuru can and will assist you in any way that he can. He can pick you up in a buggy when you want to displace, he can book dinners for you, book diving sessions, he can even take pictures for you when you are doing some water activity such as float skiing (for want of a better name) and get a screwdriver set for you (true story). My thakuru this time round was Sham and he did a superb job. I'm glad to see that Niyama has managed to hold onto their good staff and was pleased to see that Anwar, my thakuru from a previous trip, has been promoted and that Adam, a strong favourite amongst the kids (previously at Explorer and now based at Active) were still around. These are just a few of the excellent staff Niyama has, the GM, Didi is energetic as always. There was also a visiting American plastic surgeon during my time, a Dr Alessi who is also licensed to practice in Maldives and he was offering consultations to guests who were interested. This could be a discreet manner to get a consultation if you arrange to be at the resort when the doctor is next around. Overall, I had a marvellous holiday thanks to a magnificent Niyama, you can be as busy as you want to be or as lazy as you can be. I would highly recommend this resort, I had (another) great time and can safely say that this resort is the complete package. You will not regret it, go ahead and book.
"EXCELLENT SERVICE and STANDARD"
While you are on a seaplane -- you will see the beauty of this island! As soon as you land, the more it gets really impressive. It will start by the warm welcome by the resort staff. When i get into the villa, it is such a breath of fresh air. The villa is cozy and homey. I love the every corner of it. What impresses me most of this island is the wide dining option -- i love the most is the dinner i had at Tribal ( their African restaurant ) truly authentic and unique in the Maldives. You should not also miss the Nest and their underwater bar Subsix. I am also impressed with their kids club so i highly recommend this for traveler of any ages.
"My fav Vacation"
I don't know how to start this review but all I can say is that I can't wait to go back. The hotel is never short of ideas. The staff are amazing, food and ambiance is priceless. It's 5 star luxury all the way with an intimate feeling. Di Di the manager goes far above and beyond to make your stay memorable. It was the most Christmas feeling I have ever experienced at any hotel and I've stayed at all the ski resorts around the world for Christmas.
"Beautiful Resort and Unmatched Service"
My wife and I stayed at the Per Aquum Niyama for our honeymoon in November 2016. Not only was this place beautiful the service was like none I've ever had before. We stayed in a deluxe water studio on the Chill island which was very calm and great for honeymooners like us. We spent some time on the Play island which has the family attractions and where many of the excursions are kicked off but in no way did it feel like there was an overwhelming amount of families to potentially disrupt a romantic relaxing vacation. Bikes are provided for everyone making it easy to get between the islands quickly and we enjoyed spending time on both. The pictures speak for themselves regarding the beauty of this place but I feel the icing on the cake is the service and attention to detail that is taken to maintain the islands. We were provided our own butler, Shahula, whom was there to take care of any need we had. She provided suggestions for our daily itinerary, booked dining reservations, scuba trips, dolphin cruise, spa treatment, picked us up in a golf cart to get us to any appointments, sent any additional room service we needed, made sure our luggage was handled. You name it, she was on top of it. Additionally, it seemed that every inch of the island was extremely well maintained. You could tell that the paths through the islands were consistently groomed to allow easy walking, biking and golf carting across both islands. There was an incredible amount of plant life surrounding these paths that made it feel like you were traveling through an amazing tropical forest without the hassle of hacking through vegetation. The island is fumigated twice a day to keep mosquitos away but it's done so discretely you can't even tell they are fumigating. I called it "luxurious nature" meaning everything is clean, neat and in order while still feeling like you are experiencing the nature of the area. They have almost twice as many employees on the island as they have guests which is indicative to how dedicated to detail they are. Many resorts have the cliche set of varying ethnic restaurants that have average (at best) food. Not Per Aquum. They have one the most diverse set of restaurants in the Maldives and every meal we had was exceptional. The quality of food you would find in a downtown New York or Chicago. My wife and I have lived in both and we both agreed. My wife is gluten-free and they went over and beyond to assure she was accommodated which was very much appreciated. Getting to the island can be a bit of a process. You must take a seaplane from the Male airport. We had to wait a while for a couple other travelers to land before we were able to load up and head out. That was a bit tough after a set of red-eye flights. However, the resort has its own lounge at the airport for guests to wait and employees meet you to help you transfer your bags and other needs. So they make the process as comfortable as possible. The Per Aquum can cost a pretty penny so if you require an all inclusive deal on the cheap this may not be the place for you. We did save some money by getting a "half board" deal which gave each of us a $95 dinner credit each night (does not include alcohol) and free breakfast. However, you do very clearly see what you are paying for with the service and amenities. We don't regret a dime we spent.
