Superlatieven schieten ons tekort wanneer wij Bagan moeten beschrijven. Zonder overdrijven kan gesteld worden dat Bagan een van de belangrijkste en indrukwekkendste cultuurmonumenten van heel Azië is. Een must-see tijdens uw reis in Myanmar dus!
"Lovely hotel except for the long drive"
We stayed here for three nights whilst touring Myanmar. Lovely hotel, large bright room which was very clean. The gardens are well kept and the pool was lovely, however quite shallow. The breakfast had a good choice available for all tastes. The one pitfall to this hotel is it's position, it is down a very very long drive from the main road. We had to use the local taxi service to go out to the local town in the evenings. It is too far to walk. We did eat in the hotel one evening and the food was good and reasonably priced, with good service. There are bicycles available to use but they were of poor quality and having tried them we didn't feel they were safe. There were some better quality bikes but we were not allowed to use them, not sure why due to language difficulties. They also have electric bikes (like a scooter) to hire for a small charge, we asked to hire one but was told they were all booked, however there were bikes parked there continuously throughout the afternoon and evening which surprised and disappointed us.
"amazing gardens and greenery"
separate small groups of 2-3 rooms surrounded by green everywhere excellent buffet with burmese, thai, indian, chinese and regular american fare our only sour taste came at the check out time. in front of all the staff, we were stopped from leaving the premises till the staff did a 'room check' to make sure we did not steal any of the cute little amenities they had in the room for guest use--robe, pajamas, umbrellas, slippers, hat etc i understand peopple walk away with them but the room search could and should be done more discreetly. but for that i would have given this place five star rating.
I booked a deluxe and was upgraded to a villa. The good points of the hotel are the staff and the pool. The downsides are:- The villa is a 4-plex, and the four villas are joined under one roof. In the bathroom is an attic door in the roof. I can only assume that above the attic is an open common space, because every sound from every villa was amplified in our room. You hear every sound, every footstep, every conversation, every door slamming, ever shower, even every time someone goes to the bathroom. But magnified like it’s in your room. So on our the first morning our neighbors got up at 5 AM and the noise was deafening until they left a 7 AM!!! There are a colony of crows that start squeaking half an hour before dawn, joined by dozens of pigeons and doves that live on the rooftops, and they are so loud, as other reviewers have pointed out. The staff start work at around 5.30-6 AM, they have no concept of guests trying to sleep. They walk past the villas talking and laughing loud enough to be annoying! The beds are so hard it is debatable whether to sleep on the floor. The villas are spartan with no closets. The bathroom and showers look beautiful, unfortunately the showers have no doors, and after a shower the whole tile floor becomes soaking wet and lethally slippy. If it rains there is nowhere to hide, except the spartan rooms with one chair only, or inside the lobby. Nowhere else is covered. Even the tiled entrance, steps and foyer are lethal after it rains. The management are aware of this and an army of staff are busily mopping and sweeping the water away to prevent an accident after it rains. Also if you are in a villa you have to keep the curtains closed at all times because the walkways run 2-3 feet outside the villa windows. The hotel is situated at the end of a one mile dirt track in the middle of fields. There is nothing inside that one mile radius. The taxi/hotel mafia have set a taxi price of over $4 for the five minute ride to the nearest restaurant 1 1/2 mile away. But I was able to book an independent cab back for $0.75/1000kyat!! Likewise for the airport there is a set $4 charge for the 5 minute drive. If you are not already aware there is a $20 archeological charge per person before you are allowed to leave the airport on arrival. If you love looking at Pagodas you won’t notice these negatives, but unfortunately other than pagodas there is little else to see as a tourist in Bagan.
This is a nice hotel and good for family with kids. Nice and large garden with a swimming pool so it has a wonderful play ground for our kids. We had a family room which is spacious and very comfortable to stay. Well equipped with modern facilities in the bathroom. Breakfast is included with many options.
"Avoid the cocktails "
We stayed 2 nights out of four spent in Bagan as thought it would be nice to add some luxury after a few days exploring. Nice motel but not worth the price (paid a third as much for another motel and while this is nicer, not at all worth the difference). We asked about booking a car to Mandalay and were quoted a lot more than prices on line. As soon as I reluctantly said yes they increased the price to $140US from $120. I said no and ended up booking the OK bus myself online. We decided to have a few cocktails during happy hour on our first night- BIG MISTAKE! After my third cocktail I felt ill and suddenly started to vomit. The same happened to my husband (he had a few more drinks than me by this stage but is also bigger). I have never been unwell like this from alcohol before. I didn’t feel drunk just violently ill. We were both sick and motel bound the entire next day, so missed out on the final day of our trip and still felt sick for the bus trip the following day. Can’t tell you about breakfast as was too sick to eat it. Pidgins were in our ceiling and made a noise all day. Overall the motel is nice but overpriced. I would not stay again and would avoid cocktails at all costs.
