"the villas are to die for"
what a treasure. the villas all have view of the lake and sunset. villas have to be about 12-1400 sq foot a third is the huge bath with everything you would desire. very large shower huge tube lots storage. walk in foyer with plenty of dressing mirrors for 2 or 3 guests. king bed with mosquito netting which was dropped for nighttime sleeping the balcony has day bed and chairs overlooking the beautiful lake with breathtaking sunsets. service was above and beyond beautiful lobby overlooking pool and lake. the breakfast buffet was excellent with the restaurant beautiful with lake view, outside and inside seating i would highly recommend this resort....i will go back. it is so nice national geographic was staying at this hotel a week after we were leaving. enough said....
"Tranquil Escape on Beautiful Lake"
The sound of the boat engine gives way to the stunning beauty of this lake 3000 ft above sea level in the Shan mountain foothills. Aureum Palace Resort is situated in the middle section of Lake Inle about a 30-minute boat ride from the town of Nyaung Shwe. I was greeted by the manager who showed me a couple of villas to choose from, there are not many villas with king sized beds, so I went with a double due to the view from the first row. Villas are identical with porches, spacious rooms and probably the largest bathrooms I've seen in a long time (rain showers, wooden tubs for two, etc.) The entire villa was immaculate and festooned with flower petals. Service from the friendly staff is professional yet warm and hospitable. While the restaurant staff are highly accommodating and the food is very good, it is not stellar from what you would expect at such a resort. At breakfast, the fruit and baked goods selections were meager compared with similar luxury resorts in Myanmar. But the omelette station and shan noodles were good. The great staff made a box lunch for me to take on my trip back to Mandalay. These little touches made for a nice stay. When I was there in May 2017, a large bulldozer was dredging the area right in front of the pool. You might want to ask about this as I was told it is an annual maintenance routine. Other than that, I would recommend this resort for a great stay in Lake Inle. The views and the hotel gardens are picturesque and memorable.
"Great rooms and beautiful sunsets"
Like its sister hotel in Bagan, the Aureum wows with an incredible natural setting, grand common areas and huge, luxurious rooms. The sunsets over the lake are just phenomenal, and particularly relaxing to enjoy from the pool area. We stayed in a first row villa that was about double the size of our New York City apartment, had a bathroom complete with soaking tub and giant shower, and separate sitting and dressing areas. The only issue was that the room was so large that the relatively small air conditioner was not up to the job of cooling it. Staff provided a second air conditioning unit, but it made little difference. Also like the Aureum in Bagan, the restaurant isn't so terrific and not a great value, but it's atmospheric and service is well-meaning and friendly. Other reviewers have correctly noted that the hotel is far from town-- given the time and expense of getting to and from, you'll likely not bother.
"Very disappointed with location and value for money"
While we were overall disappointed with this hotel, there were some upsides - positives are as follows: - Friendly staff - Huge, clean rooms - Large range of food at breakfast - Nice pool area However, unfortunately this did not live up to our expectations given the price. Below are the negatives: - Terribly located. Not possible to get to the nearest town (Nyaungshwe) affordably in the evening. The hotel do not run a shuttle and return taxi to town was $40 for a 15 mins drive (very very far in excess of taxis that we have paid for in the rest of Myanmar). Due to location it's not an option to flag down a taxi on the road leaving this as the only way to get to town - We hired bikes to get into town during daylight hours, but one was broken leaving us with problems getting home resulting in cycling in the dark with no lights - Dinner was overpriced - about $15 for a main course (significantly higher than great restaurants in town and the rest of Myanmar). However, with an expensive taxi into town this was the only option for dinner really - Air conditioning in the rooms was not good enough for the heat and as a result we did sleep comfortably - We wanted to have flexibility in the nights we had booked to stay and found the staff unhelpful regarding this matter Overall - would not recommend this hotel due to location and better alternative options at a lower cost
"Stunning rooms and views - definitely honeymoon material"
Very luxurious and spacious rooms decorated with awesome detail (e.g. a wooden bathtub filled with flowers on arrival) and stunning views of the lake. Honeymoon proof! The surrounding is also stunning - so many beautiful trees and flowers. Do come by boat - this is half of the fun. (As a side note - We hired the same boat to do a tour in the lake the next day - as this was much cheaper than the option offered by the hotel.) The pool and restaurant also have great views and the food - although pricy - is really good. Staff was absolutely lovely. And even the spa was great. When we had finished exploring the lake we took one of the hotel's bicycles and cycled to the nearby uphill pagoda - tough ride but worthwhile, particularly if you take the smaller roads back to the hotel and explore the neighborhood.
