"Fantasic villa with great views"
We had three nights here as part of a Scenic cruise and tour. We had a fantastic time and it was nice just to relax and watch the fishermen go about their business. The villa was huge and very clean. the staff in the resort were excellent and couldn't do more to help. The food is also excellent. A highlight was the trip getting to the resort as we came by boat.
"Beautiful spot but not quite 5 star"
Don't get me wrong - very nice hotel - we had a second row villa which was just fine and wood/teak was beautiful - but they are just not quite at that 5 star level in terms of things like quality of toiletries, practicality of room (opening the curtains requires Herculean force, there is a odd living area that doesn't fit in) and low level fitness center with barely usable elliptical and bike. For this area, it's quite nice - service was GREAT, food solid but not great, view amazing - loved the welcome with towels folded to look like elephants and rose petals strewn in a pattern on the bed and in the bath. Bath is gorgeous to look at (teak I think) but not that practical as it would take a TON of water to fill. I took a mini bath as it was too time consuming and hard to get in and out. Shower was hard to regulate temperature. Just small things but takes away from 5 star. That being said, we enjoyed our 2 nights here and did some cool boat trips. If the gym were updated and room switches fixed to be easier to use and more light, it would be perfect. Oh, and I should mention the spa was disappointing relative to others on this stay. Brightly lit room that looked more like a cell, and oddly, there was some random woman hiding in my room that I never figured out. the massage person was mediocre at best but at least price was good.
Fabulous venue - great rooms on the water and fabulous staff. View of Inle Lake and mountains is lovely. Great fire pit next to bar overlooking the lake. Villa with deck on the water was heavenly. Inle Lake, it’s villages on stilts, and it’s people are fascinating.
We very much enjoyed our time at Inle Lake an the Aureum Resort. Getting around in the long boats was a pleasure on the water. The rooms are suites, very large and spacious. There is mosquito netting around the bed at night. The laundry service was inexpensive and quick.
"Mixed feelings - out of control and overwhelming wedding"
We booked this hotel as we were coming back from a 2 days hike and wanted to chill in a good hotel. However, we learned from our agent in the morning of the day of our arrival that there will be a wedding... our agent tried to cancel and rebook somewhere else but the hotel didn't want to refund us... so we went as we didn't want to loose 550 usd (2 nights) We arrived on a construction site. The wedding was actually taking place over the pool (bye bye pool and sunset bar...) and its whole area as well as lobby, boat deck. We were offered to go to another hotel for the pool but only till 5 and it was 3 pm when we arrived. Upon check in we received a bottle of wine and a present (apologies for the coming mess?) as well as an invitation for the wedding dinner... Rooms are big and well planned but soon we noticed the little failures: - dirty windows - stained seats - smelly toilets - something that looks like an outside pool but would be a flower pound according the front office... - very cheap minibar and tea set (see picture) - the shower design... slippery stones and round stones, none of them good to step in with a cheap plastic matt on top We had dinner at the hotel. Staff was friendly, well trained and efficient. Maybe too efficient at the beginning of the dinner as we had 7 staff serving us but then no more service for a while...First night went well and we had a good sleep. Breakfast was all right but not up to Asian standards for a 5 stars hotel. On our return the next day, we arrived in the middle of a crowd over all pool area, restaurant terrace and lobby. We really felt like we were the undressed and unwanted guests in a big party (we arrived with shorts and sandals through the boat deck and crossed hundreds of invited people in their best dress (it was an Indian wedding). Got changed and tried to eat at the buffet (vegan...) fighting with pushy guests who kind of didn't understood what we where doing there. At end we ordered some extra restaurant food too (which we had to pay for...) The problem is that the loud club music kept going through all night so loud that you couldn't listen to your tv or read a book. We were told the wedding was finished at 10.30 (at that time it was more than enough) but it kept going till 11.30 pm. We called the front office to complain about noise twice but once we were told it will be over soon and the second time that the staff didn't know and a manager would call me back but it never happen. The front office manager did apologize to our complain and she was trying to listen to our points but no real actions were taken. This story reflect to me a greedy management who tried to book more rooms while it is clear that with such a wedding, the hotel should have requested the wedding party to book the full hotel.
