"Great Location and facilities"
We stayed here for 3 nights in October as part of an APT tour of Myanmar. The hotel was comfortable and the staff excellent. We had a room on the second row with a partial view of the lake. It was a long way from the main lobby and quite dark at night, so a torch would be a good idea, particularly if you have mobility issues. The restaurant food was good but wines were expensive except for the local Myanmar wine, which we did not find appealing. Our room was spacious with wooden bath tub and separate shower area. The shower cubicle was a little dangerous with its pebbles and slippery tiles so care would be needed if elderly or have mobility issues. However the hotel did provide rubber mats in the shower. The bed had a full mosquito net as the doors and windows had no fly screens, which we thought was strange for an over water hotel in a malaria area.
"Looks good from the outside"
Best first - our villa was amazing. Enormous with the comfiest bed we have slept in for a long time. Thare was a large wooden bath tub and a huge shower room. Clean, tidy and well serviced. Fresh fruit, plenty of bottled water and excellent toiletries. Flower petals everywhere and a rose left on the bed every night. The food is aa wonderful choice of Burmese or western. Breakfast is amazing. Spicy soups or bacon and eggs! Excellent range of cocktails at US $7 each. Wine is expensive. Downside, miles from anything so you are a captive audience. The public areas are tiled and deadly in the wet. Need to put down non slip mats when raining. Scariest part is the boardwalk connecting villas. Should be condemmed. So many rotten boards. I stood on one that gave way and fell hard on my knees. Was fixed within hours with an apology, that's all.
Greeted as the boat arrived at the dock (approx 40min boat trip). Check-in was easy (pre-paid tour and guide handled it all) with fresh towels and drinks. Villa was huge and right on the lake with a balcony (first row). Lovely petals and love swans on the fairy tale bed. More petals found in the huge wooden bathtub and sink. Buffet breakfast spread was okay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't make a booking for dinner and they recognised that we did not want to sit in the outdoor available seating. They went out of their way to move some outdoor seating inside for us (especially after they found out that we were actually staying at the resort). Limit food options here. Wifi only available at reception lounge area.
Great location on the lake. Amazing room, very spacious and we'll equipped and decorated. Only downside is that the A/C was not large enough to cool the room. We requested for air cooler that they brought into the room that worked well as far as the cooling goes but were rather noisy. Services were outstanding. Spa services were very reasonable, cannot comment on the quality as we did not have time to use it. The pool area was very nice. Food was good, we had the breakfast buffet and ala carte dinner. Being on the lake mosquito is a problem, but I would expect that in any hotel in that area. Make sure you carry your bug spray and close door and Windows late evening and night. I gave it 4 stars and not 5 stars because of the AC issue. A cool and dehumidified room is important to me
Originally booked for 4 nights but moved after two. Had emailed to advise arrival time; no acknowledgement. Despite booking for 4 nights (most people stay one or two nights) & low occupancy, no upgrade or comps. We were also paying full internet rate of USD$288pn. Given room with leaking ceiling above toilet - dangerous during heavy rain during our stay. Huge rooms (possibly too big?) Breakfast adequate although concern with cold food being left uncovered & not chilled for several hours. Biggest downside to this hotel is you are trapped for meals. No close restaurants & dinner in hotel will set you back AUD$100 or thereabouts for two. We did venture out one night & were charged USD$35 for a 10 min ride in hotel ute. Food cost less than the taxi ride. Driver waited for us whilst we ate - inefficient. Understand tourism industry developing but don't charge NYC or London prices then. Staff very friendly & attentive but management needs serious guidance.
