"Nice resort on quiet beach "

We stayed in one of the cabanas near the main lobby area and close to the water. The cabana was large, with h a nice bedroom on the upper level. The room was pretty large. The shower was powerful and you didn't get cold even though there were no shower curtains. There wasn't a very convenient place to put suitcases and the provided suitcase rack only worked it one end rested on the stairs (without doing so it could collapse on your foot). It would have been preferable if there were small might lights on the way down the steps at night to the bathroom. Restaurant - included breakfast buffet was pretty good. They could have included two chefs for omelette as there was often a disorganized line of people waiting. Crepes were good. Evening - wait service was spotty. I wasn't told it would take an hour for the dish I ordered(delivered long after all my companions were done eating), nor that the crab dish provided in an Indian sauce would include a bunch of crab legs in the sauce that needed to be cracked- what an inedible mess. I had to send it back. The waitress recommended this dish which she never should have- please take it off the menu or at least explain what a mess it is and that it takes an hour. The staff overall was friendly and the beach was nice and uncrowded. No one came by selling drinks at the beach tables (good or bad depending on your pov) and it wasn't very clear how to get beach towels. Convenient transport to/ from the airport. Near shops with good prices on drinks and a money exchange at hotel entrance. Other restaurants close by, across the street.

"CANCEL your reservation at the AMATA!! One of the most disappointing stays ever!! READ THIS REVIEW"

If you read this review and have booked the Amata already - CANCEL it immediately - book a room at the bayview, sandoway, ngapali bay or jade marina resort ! I JUST WANT TO WARN YOU AND HOPE I CAN HELP YOU NOT TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME I EXPERIENCED I have stayed at the Amata in one of the cottage cabana houses for 2 nights - and it was a nightmare!! Unfortunately I did not read the previous negative reviews - but its all true. THE ROOMS: the first impression: the smell inside the room was more than disgusting - a mixture of moldy old smoke and moths spray was the first thing which shot up my nostrils...looking closer at the room I could not believe what I saw considering the price range..they charging 240$ per night for these cottages... there are "gaps" and "cracks" everywhere - the doors...the windows...everywhere are gaps trough which all kind of animals can get into the room... no idea what the carpenter has taken when he took the measures... the bathroom has a separate entrance/exit door which leads into the public garden area...the door had a 3cm big gap at the bottom...(as well as the entrance door which leads into the mainroom)...obviously all kind of animals (frogs!!, ants, a mice) were attracted to visit me in the night time...same problem with the windows (which had 1cm gaps around the frame) and also the walls! (the wood had long cracks) I was scared to turn on the light in the evening; especially when using the bathroom; The bathroom itself was a catastrophe !! unbelievable for the price I payed - just look at the pics I uploaded..dirt and mold everywhere!! comparable to a cheap youth hostel in Bangkok. The provided towels were dirty and obviously very very old!! Also the mainroom and the sleeping are in the second level were more than disappointing...everywhere was dust...opening the cupboard and closets was a challenge; the hinges were completely rusty; but the worst thing was the intense smell! I found three moths in the bed...but inside the mosquito net!! so obviously they got a kind of moths problem there. during the night there were huge mice which were chasing each other on the cottages roofs...they were so loud that I woke up several times; first I thought its a monkey but a store owner on the mainstreet told me the Amata has a kind of super mice problem.. I know it sounds like a nightmare - but it is true! THE BEACH: the beach itself is beautiful - but thats a given thing. the sun benches the Amata is offering to their guests are a catastrophe!! you can not really adjust the angle of the bench; you can choose between a 80 or 0 degree angle; thats it ? After 2 hours I felt so uncomfortable that I had to leave the beach. the "cushion" are old plastic mats which heat up in the sun like a car hood!! the beach towel were even worse than the room towels...very old and full of stains. Just unbelievable!! and in no way relaxing! THE BREAKFAST Considering the room price and the hotel category (4 stars) the breakfast is disappointing as well! No idea why some people on trip advisor are giving positive ratings for the breakfast buffets. Its not the worse I have seen but definitely not great! THE POOL wasn't allowed to use the pool during my stay; the hotel management chemically cleaned the water during my stay; other guests who stayed at the Amata for a week already told me they couldn't use the pool since they arrived...so another big disappointment! in previous negative trip advisor ratings people are pointing out that issue as well....so it seems its not the first time the hotel was not able to maintain the pool water quality... the hotel staff was very friendly throughout my stay; the listened to my complaints - moved me to another cottage - which had exactly the same issues. I have stayed at the Ngapali Bay, the Bayview, the Sandoway and the Jade Marina Resort as well - and there you get much much much more quality and standard for your money...its like a different world!!! The price is more or less the same!! !!!! IF YOU STILL WANT TO STAY AT THE AMATA - remember my review and regret spending your hard earned money while suffering on the uncomfortable beach benches/beds watching the happy and relaxed Sandoway resort guest walking by !!!!

"Beautiful setting"

I cam here at the end of a 3 week tour around Myanmar... the perfect end to a hectic trip! The setting is perfect...a beautiful beach. The rooms are really nice, well ours was (room 420) although some others complained about dark and small rooms. Our was spacious and clean. The only downside was the TV was pretty old and the reception bad but we weren't there to watch tv so can't really complain about that. We got complimentary water, tea and coffee in the rooms, with a kettle. The beds were turned down with the mosquito nets tucked in each night. The pool is small but really nice. The bar has happy hour between 5 and 8pm with 2 for 1 cocktails. The breakfast is really good too with a selection of east and western food. All in all a great place!

"Loved Amata and Love Ngapali"

my wife and i have stayed in Amata on 2 previous occasions and have loved it. Nothing has changed. The same amazing beach with warm, clear water. The same warm and welcoming staff to help with absolutely any request. The same warm welcome every time you make eye contact with the staff. The place has beach charm with its teak buildings that are a little rustic and yet very comfortable, clean and spacious. The setting is stunning and sunsets at the waterside bar just stunning. I use that word "Stunning " a lot when describing Ngapali Beach. The sand is clean, white powder and you can eat in at the resort or get that sand between your toes and wander along the beach to the many on beach eateries. Yummy, fresh crayfish, assorted Myanmar curries and seafood freshly caught by the local fisherman every day. We enjoyed the Silverfull restaurant on the beach and had eaten there on a few previous occasions. The host is a cracker!. From the front gates of Amata you access the main road and many other restaurants. We enjoyed 2 Brothers on 3 occasions. Warm, friendly, clean and fresh seafood. Amata, Ngapali and all about is simply.....Bliss!

"Restaurant - not good"

We came here for the first time to have the Christmas buffet. For the most part the food was good, but at $100 a head I was surprised to see processed slices of burger cheese on the cheese board alongside some other horrible looking sweaty slices of generic 'cheese'. We came a second time for a normal dinner and were not impressed. 1. Cocktails took forever to arrive. 2. Food served on cold plates 3. Beef carpaccio said roquette (arugola) leaves, but came with regular lettuce. 4. Salt and pepper not provided on tables, had to search restaurant to find my own. 5. Mostly the food was fairly bland. Won't return
