"Stunning place to relax!"
We stayed four nights at the Sandoway following two weeks travelling around Myanmar. It was perfect! We had a lovely beachfront villa - just a very short stroll (length depended on tide!) to the ocean which was the temperature of bath water! What bliss to walk bare foot along the beach to breakfast! Lovely family run restaurants along the road just outside the hotel which were fabulous for dinner. If only we could have stayed longer! We certainly didn't want to leave! We have travelled to many places but think this is the loveliest beach resort we have stayed in so far!
"Perfect relax "
We enjoyed a six day stay at Sandoway Resort and in our opinion it was one of the most beautiful resorts we've stayed at so far. Entering the restaurant terrace for check in was the first wow effect. What a few!!! And this is where we had breakfast and also enjoyed a delicious dinner twice. Breakfast was a big buffet with various kinds of bread, cereals, fruits and local food. Plus, you could order egg meals or pancakes a la carte. All tasty apart from the cooked ham - but that is something usually don't get in Myanmar at all so nothing to complain about. The deluxe room we booked was huge and spacious over two floors. Very clean and comfortable with beautiful local and cosy interior design. The housekeeping came at least twice a day and did a good job. Every room has it's own umbrella and beach chair so no fights for that :-). Plus extra beds at the pool which we didn't use because the beach was too beautiful and just amazing!!! The location is also good as you can still walk to the beach restaurants along the water (~20 mins) or have various restaurants along the street just next door. I would definitely recommend the Sandoway to friends even though it was sometimes quite noisy due to local weddings which where somewhere close to the Resort. But this is nothing the Sandoway is responsible for.
"Beautiful beach but horrible accommodation"
We booked this hotel for 4 nights at the end of a 10 day trip across Myanmar where we stayed in 4*/ 5* hotels. Good points about Sandoway: * Beautiful beach * Hotel is clean and well kept * The spa is expensive but quite good - we had massages and a mani/pedi and it was excellent * Wifi reception available almost everywhere and better than expected Bad points: * Our 'deluxe' room (#31) was dark and there was a horrible stale smell throughout. We asked to speak to the manager who came in, admitted that there was a strange smell and offered us a choice between orange or lemon smelling air fresheners... We asked for another room or an upgrade but apparently there was nothing available apart from a 'noisy' room near the pool * We never had any sun coming to our terrace so our clothes never dried in the clothes rail * Every night from 9pm till early next morning there was a buzzing sound outside the room which prevented us from sleeping peacefully. When we complained, the hotel staff first said it was the monks next door, then they said it was the water pipes and finally, it was just crickets 'singing together'. Frankly, they were so useless we just gave up and slept with earphones on * The food at the restaurant is bland and expensive - we ordered a vanilla milkshake which was just cold milk. Instead of eating here try Mingalabar the restaurant across the street from the resort. Also, you can stock on fruit from the fruit sellers who come to the beach. They sell delicious fresh food at very good prices * There was NO hot water until we complained in reception * Limited food options at breakfast * It was difficult to communicate with the staff because apart from a handful of them, they do not speak/ understand English We found out that there is also a Sandoway Residence (just up the beach) which is supposed to be more modern, quieter and cheaper than the main resort. Perhaps this is a better option to explore.
"Great capper to our tour of Myanmar"
We ended our incredible 2 week tour of Myanmar with 3 nights at Ngapali beach at the Sandoway Resort. Just what the doctor ordered! It was a great way to decompress after a hectic touring schedule. Ngapali Beach gives nothing away to the very best beaches in the world. Soft white sand, shallow water with a smooth sandy bottom, warm water, gentle waves. The beach vendors are friendly and polite and non intrusive. Sandoway has a premier location, right on the beach. The restaurant is tree shaded and steps from the beach. The bungalows are well appointed, spacious 2 floor dwellings with the bedroom on the upper floor. The pool area is expansive and at night they fill the pool with floating luminaries, giving the place a fairy tale atmosphere. Adjacent to the pool is a two story "library", filled with books in many languages, with a bar area downstairs. Probably perfect on a rainy day. Each villa comes with two reserved beach chairs and a beach umbrella. (No fighting over beach access.) Raise the flag over your umbrella and a friendly server will come to take your drinks and food orders. All of the staff are friendly and accommodating. The hotel restaurant is full service, but there are several great restaurants just across the street. If you want to travel a bit farther, you can flag one of the numerous taxis who will take you anywhere for about 2 dollars. The hotel has some kayaks and paddle boards for a nominal charge. Bicycles are also available. Great resort, great experience at Sandoway. Would return and stay for a month if I could!
We switched to Sandoway after a terrible stay at the neighboring Amata resort and it made our experience in Ngapali so much better. The bungalows are adorable. We loved having a loft layout with the bed upstairs and a hangout area downstairs. The bathrooms are huge and *gasp* had conditioner (sometimes it's the little touches that really show how awesome a place is). All the food we had was delicious. Staff even left us a bottle of wine since it was our honeymoon. So sweet. I would 100% stay here again if I came back to Ngapali.
