This place is absolutely amazing!! Me and my wife traveled around Myanmar for a few days, going to the mandatory places, and we finished our holiday in Sandoway, where we spend 5 days. I honestly can't point out any kind of problem! The rooms/bungalow are super comfortable, huge, good and detailed decoration, and very clean and neat! Probably one of the best hotels I've been. The beach in front of the hotel is also super good! A wide white sand area, with a soft and gentle sea! There's always locals selling big coconuts, fresh and tasty, so don't pass the opportunity! The property is big, and there's a few activities to make your self occupied, but who wants to have a schedule when you have that beach... The breakfast is good, with a wide variety. Lunch and dinner are also tasty and yummy, but we went outside most of the meals, to try the "local cuisine". The price is a bit more expensive than we were expecting, but still very affordable! Overall, an relaxed experience, with friendly staff, gorgeous resort, amazing beach, and the perfect scenario for an excellent time in Myanmar!
"Best hotel in Ngapali beach"
Easily the nicest and most tasteful hotel in Ngapali beach--some newer ones are around but none match the Sandoway. Wouldn't trade it for any hotel in town. The beachfront villas are worth the extra money.
"Dreamy tranquil setting, big boutique resort. Luxurious and spacious village cottage rooms."
We spent six nights here in early April. It was really important for my family to relax after spending time at Mandalay and Bagan especially since it was unbearably hot at times and hard work visiting sites. So we were willing to spend dollars on this great treat. And it did not let us down. We were picked up at the airport and took a bus the short distance to the hotel. It was well organized. I like it when you arrive in a new place ant there are representatives of the hotel looking for you and handling luggage. The welcome drink at the beach view restaurant had breathtaking views of the beach and grounds. It was a lovely way to be introduced to the large but beautiful grounds of Sandoway. The property has a massive beach frontage. The massive, dreamy, pool is at one end of the property with the main reception and restaurant in the middle of the grounds. It provided endless fun for adults and children alike. In April when the season was almost over and getting quieter there were always recliners available . we did notice however that the pool floor needed a good scrub. We stayed closer to the restaurant than the pool, on the pool side of the hotel. If you want to get away and have a more peaceful stay you may want to stay on the other side of the hotel but you will be quite far from the pool. Since we were in the pool everyday we were happy to be a short walk away. The building pictured next to the pool is the library which had some very relaxing spaces to lounge in. My wife’s favourite spot was on the balcony on the first floor. Breezy and cooling on a hot day with reclining chairs. As the hotel is directly on the beach we did go for some beach walks which were nice, but be warned, there is way too much rubbish on the beach and in the water for this beach to be rated 25 by fellow Trip Advisor users in 2016. I am a big fan of beaches and live near plenty in Torquay Australia and I have never seen so much rubbish in my life particularly on the tide lines. Unfortunately Burma has little infrastructure to deal with rubbish responsibly. The hotel maintenance crew/security keep the beach spotless at Sandoway but not outside the borders of the hotel. This was one disappointment of my stay and not the fault of Sandoway. Breakfast was nearly perfect. The only thing I would have liked was ice for the juice as it was never cold enough for my liking. The staff at breakfast were very nice. We were always asked if we wanted to order anything complimentary like pancakes or eggs cooked our way. Our room was a village cottage two story in the second row. We felt it was worth the extra money to have a bungalow but were just as happy we didn’t pay extra for a sea view cottage. We had the first cottage in the second row and although most cottages sit directly inline with the cottage on the beach front, ours was only half directly behind which meant we had a quite good view. In any case you spend most of your time at the beach and pool anyway. It fit our family well with two children, we paid for an extra bed for one. The adults had a King bed upstairs. The air conditioning was great. The room and facilities were meticulously presented. As an extra my wife and I took advantage of the spa facilities. The two women were excellent. My wife had a hot stone massage and I had the relaxation massage and we were both very happy. Tips: We ate out every night at Two Brothers, our favourite spot, Enjoy and Family Reastarant. Cost was about US $20 for the whole family with cold drinks, non alchoholic. Friend s Forever, snorkelling we highly reccomend. They picked us up at the beach of our hotel and took us snorkeling and fishing. Please look them up on Trip Advisor or Facebook. I left a review for them. Finally, even as expensive as our stay was we will always have fond memories of this idyllic place. So we feel it was worth the money. Having had the experience of coming to Burma and Sandoway I don’t believe we will return, or to this beach (rubbish), but cherish the time we spent here. Thank you Sandoway for a lovely stay.
"Comfort, peace and quiet in front of the Andaman Sea lapping at the golden beaches"
Wonderful first experience spent at this resort, built with traditional materials including beautifully sculptured wooden beams and columns in the various hotel buildings. The accomodation is well appointed and spacious, and ranges from either an individual cottage to a semi-detached cottage, all made of wood. They are spacious Inside, with plenty of room to relax; beds are very comfortable with the appropriate mosquito netting hanging over, and very functional ! The beach is virtually a hop, skip and a jump away....and the lovely quiet beaches lining the Andaman Sea. Dining servioces are all good, ranging from breakfast, through lunch, to dinner, which can either be taken Inside or outside, on the wooden deck facing the sea. The beasches make for a lovely long stroll (a few km's) out and back (but don't forget to take a hat and sunscreen with you !).
"Gorgeous property and service"
Ngapali beach at its finest - beautiful bungalows, well-designed and comfortable. We didn't want to leave. There were reserved lounge chairs on the beach for each guest. Lounge chairs have a little flip-up sub visor, which is very handy for reading. Because we were there in low season, breakfast was a la carte, but we were seemingly able to every item on the menu. All were delicious. Only downside I can think to mention is that as a vegetarian, options for eating at Sandoway were limited at dinner, and were very expensive.
