"A beautiful resort on a beautiful beach"
Spent a week here after touring upper Burma by boat. It is a delightful place in an incredible location and we're very glad we took a whole week rater than 2 or 3 days as most people. The beachfront cottage was excellent and very comfortable and quiet at night. Some minor niggles such as the silly iron bound safe with a padlock inconveniently located in the darkest part of the closet/dressing room! That area could do with more light, as could the mirror over the washbasin, and a fan would be nice. Minor indeed when considering the whole property. The restaurant, open air right on the edge of the beach (need to book if you want dinner at a table on the front row) is great for breakfast and lunch but found the dinner menu uninspiring; not a problem as we ate out four times at the Minglabar just across the road - fantastic fresh seafood and local dishes. Massage in the spa was good - no fuss but just good muscle relaxing stuff. As a public beach we were expecting the usual sellers of local tat but really we only saw ladies selling fruit and coconuts as well as some boat owners offering excursions - no hassle at all. Pool is magnificent and the sitting area outside the library/pool bar is a great place for sundowners - unless you have a beachfront cottage and can sit out on your own deck and just be amazed. Could go on, but having been fortunate to stay in a number of similar properties around the world this is certainly in our top 2.
This is probably the worst "luxurious" 4or 5 star or whatever they think they are resort I have ever seen. And the "deluxe" room is just a really bad joke. It is extremely uncomfortable! It is also very-very noisy because of the road! Its like you are on the road! And they hotel is fully booked so I could not change that. But the manager said that there is no much difference in terms of noise between these rooms and cottages. Great! But you can take earplugs from the reception. There is a weird unpleasant smell in the room. The safe box is another bad joke, its an iron box with a lock and a key, I have never ever seen one like that. There is no wardrobe, just some hangers near the bathroom. There is absolutely no ventilation in the bathroom. In the same time for some weirdest reason they have doors with windows both in the toilet and in the shower. I guess that is for adding the noise. There are no plugs around the bed to charge your phone. Not to say that it is very uncomfortable to have bathroom and bedroom on different floors. Restaurant has very limited menu and the food is so-so. I had a massage in the spa, the bed is very hard and uncomfortable and massage is just average. The only good thing about this hotel is the beach, but hotel has nothing to do with it. Umbrellas will not give you proper shade. Sun beds are not great either. Wi-fi works quite well, even on the beach. Staff is very polite and nice. They have cinema instead of TV in the evenings. I would definitely never come back to this hotel and I feel very sorry that I have chosen this hotel after reading all the good reviews and spoilt my last days of holidays.
"Amazing sea front villa"
The Beach side villas are amazing and I wd strongly recommend paying the extra for these as the breeze from the sea keeps even the hottest temperatures bearable This is a beautiful resort but the food is rather uninteresting Local restaurants if you choose well can make up for this ! Set in a beautiful palm fringed bay lovely area for R and R if travelling through Myanmar
"Amazing beachfront resort and spa"
This is a truly idyllic place. Quiet almost empty white sand beach which stretches as far as the eye can see. Sandaway Resort is nestled in the beautiful palm fringed area of the beach edge with a selection of either cottages or the higher priced and slightly more secluded villas spanning out from the central clubhouse. Our villa was (No 1) was massive and literally on the beach - not all are. All amenities were great. Restaurant and facilities are excellent as are staff and management - who are all eager to help in anyway they can. Overall this resort exceeded expectations and is a real oasis of calm. It is the perfect environment to relax and rejuvenate at the end of a hectic 2 week trip around Burma!
"Amazing location, should be 5*"
With a beach setting to die for, wonderful large accommodation (in a beach Villa) and a beautiful hotel, pool area etc...why only 4*? The staffing levels are high but for some reason the service did not match a top international standard at these prices. The staff smiled, tried very hard and always responded. But the hotel management need to organise and train to a higher level - examples are empty plates from food ordered on the beach (great beach service from your allocated and quiet beds) never collected, no confirmation that something requested had been done (e.g. Repairing the wifi router) and chaotic and over attentive service in the restaurant. We also stayed at the Inle Princess and their service was terrific. The other shortfall is the food in the restaurant. Breakfast is good and other meals are fine but not to 5* standard. We had some meals at the local restaurants opposite the entrance (we liked Two Brothers best) where the food is simple but better, the atmosphere more local and the cost much cheaper. Like the whole of our trip, wifi was slow and poor much of the time. Overall though we had a great time and hope that these comments will be taken constructively.
