"The most beautiful place I have stayed."
I have traveled loads and stayed in some stunning places, but Sandoway is the best all around. From the rooms, the food, all the amenities and the beach in front is just glorious. The perfect spot to watch the sunset. As in all of Myanmar, the staff are lovely, smiley, friendly and cannot do enough for you. I would highly recommend this spot. We only had 3 nights there at the end of an amazing tour of Myanmar and just wished we had allowed more time.
"The most beautiful, romantic, green resort I have ever seen."
We had one of the small apartments, which are actually whole houses. The resort is super green, flowers, plants and trees everywhere. Every detail here is thought through, from the swimming pool (which in the evening is lit with floating lanterns), the lighting of the pathways, the interieur of the rooms and the library. Everything is absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The only thing I could criticize is that you have to pay extra to rent bikes from the hotel, which could be included as the place is so exclusive. And you have to make sure that the transfer from the airport to the hotel is included in your reservation. They will not take you with them in the hotel bus (even if it is half empty). They have strict rules which they will not bend for you. They are not generous in that sense. Being there is very different from being in the rest of Myanmar. The contrast between the luxurious resorts and the living standards of the locals was hard to take for me. The resort itself is a dreamland.
"Perfect location, wonderful staff, beautiful rooms"
Stayed for three nights in Feb 17. The villa was spectacular, large bedroom, huge bathroom with sunken bath and probably the best shower we have seen in years. powerful and hot!!! We were on the beachfront which was worth the extra. An obvious but to me, an unusual feature is that you have your own numbered beach umbrella, so no rushing round in the morning trying to beat certain Europeans to the sun loungers!!! On the beach umbrellas, they have a flag system too alert the waiters. You raise the flag and a waitress appears to take your order...wonderful. The beach is beautiful and not busy, even in the high season. Do get up early (7?) and wander along to the fishing village to see them all bringing in their catch.....a highlight for us. Only let down was the restaurant, breakfast is great but we ate dinner there once and were disappointed....the meals in the outside restaurants are better and much cheaper. Overall, a lovely property with exceptional staff and service.
"Beautiful property in a fantastic setting - with some suggestions"
This is a beautiful property with efficient and friendly staff. The Restaurant, "Library" and Pool areas are stunning as is the entire setting. We were in a Deluxe accommodation which turned out to be very near the road and therefore fairly noisy once the traffic began and the lighting inside was so dim that it was difficult to see to do anything after dusk. Dinner in the restaurant was OK but very expensive with huge portions and we eat lunch and dinner out after the first night at a wonderful little restaurant just over the road called "ENJOY". The food was much better - fresh fish and salads and BBQ Grill - and the price about a quarter of that in the hotel. This aside, we would stay there again but somewhere further away from the road - and return to "our" restaurant for everything except breakfast which was actually not at all bad. Fantastically restful break with a big beach and few people - especially nice to have your "own" reserved sunbeds and umbrella.
"Perfect Place to Relax on the Beach"
We stayed in the Villas (Villa 1 to be exact) and room was amazing. Had large bedroom and huge bathroom/closet. Room had an upstairs loft with a mediation area. This was on par with a Four Season or Aman resort. Service was great - especially on the beach. Sand and water at the resort was perfect. The hotel coordinated a boat tour with snorkeling and a barbecue for us which was fun. The bar was relaxing and we found ourselves having drinks there each night. The pool was a bit cold for January so we never got to enjoy it. The breakfast buffet was superb. The only downside of stay was that the spa was mediocre. There was no pampering beforehand (changing room, sauna, relaxation area) - you went right to your therapy room, changed clothes and that was it. The restaurant was primarily Italian....we were enjoying the local foods during our stay so we ventured off property for most of our other meals.
