"Monkeys in paradise!"
As part of a trek around Sri Lanka we enjoyed 3 days at this hotel. It is set in very large grounds, with a good swimming pool & a nearby lake. we were less keen on the later due to flies etc. However it brought in a good amount of wildlife- kingfishers, turtles, butterflies etc. The 2 storey accommodation is set in garden grounds. Night lighting could be better- so a torch could be useful. We enjoyed DB&B, & the food & service was good. Ha Baraja provided a super base to visit many ancient monuments- in particular Sigriya & Dambulla cave temple. Super time- but watch out for the many roaming moneys in the hotel gardens waiting to grab items- but harmless!
Arrived here on our first full day in Sri Lanka for an overnight stay. We upgraded our room to a suite....sorry but can not remember the cost of this. Was worth it where the room was large with king size bed with a table and chairs inside. Outside we had a choice of either looking out towards to lake or the other side facing back into the resort grounds. Amazingly large property in terms of space and area with extensive gardens and grounds with the obligatory monkeys and monitors. Right next door if the Cinnamon Village but they are not linked in terms of charge back to your room at the Lodge. Looked like a nice property as well. Have given Cinnamon Lodge a 4 only because of the reception staff on arrival who were distracted and not really taking care in terms of attending to the arriving guests as well as they should have been. Bar and restaurant staff were great. We chose to dine off the bar menu as there were only two other options being buffet in the dining room or the very smart ala carte restaurant which wasn't our gig for this evening. Breakfast buffet was extensive with cold meats, cheeses, fruit and other dairy produce in a seperate air conditioned cool room...brilliant idea and something all hotels in the tropics should do to ensure freshness, quality and insect control (namely flys). An enjoyable stay and would recommend.
"Beautiful property with the most amazing Lake and food!"
It was my first time at Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana and I travelled there with a group of friends for a one night stay before heading off to Jaffna. My husband and I travelled by train and got off at Habarana station. We knew the hotel was very close to the station, but wanted to know if the Hotel could arrange for us to be picked up from the station in order to avoid the hassle of bargaining with overpriced tuk tuk drivers who hang around the station. However, they seemed clueless when we called them about having any such pick up service even for a price. Our friends came and picked us up from the station after checking in and sorting out all three rooms that we had booked. However, when we got to the property, the staff said that the rooms that we had been allocated were already checked in to and that it was not updated since there was a system issue. I work in hospitality myself and understand that these things can happen. Specially during the rush hour of the guests arriving by train checking in all at once. The staff gave us an early check in at 12.30 however with a lot of confusion along the way. When we arrived at our little lodge-like room, the old linen taken out was left on our balcony/outdoor area chairs and had not been cleared out. Furthermore, the lamp shades inside what cobwebs on it and some dust. I think the hotel should perhaps focus a tiny bit more on giving their customers a fully finished product than rushing to give them an early check in. True enough, we all appreciated the early check in very much, but as someone who works the industry, this is my personal preference / recommendation. Our room was a triple, however, no additional bed, towels or water bottles had been kept in the room for the third guest. They promptly got everything in order for us once we called and told them about the issue. Having surpassed all this, we ordered in room service for 7 of us. The order was perfectly executed and brought to our friend's room very fast where we all gathered for afternoon drinks. The food was soooo tasty! Prawn Wontons, Asparagus soup, Nasi Goreng, Club sandwich (With yummy pork bacon), Chicken and beef burgers were a few of the items we ordered. Cinnamon always gets their food JUST RIGHT! The hotel borders an amazing lake which is beautiful during sunset. They have a quaint and sturdy tree house which gives you spectacular views of the lake and is great for photo ops! The hotel also houses a large, beautiful pool which is open till 9 pm and is just amazing to swim in once the sun goes down :) The Breakfast buffet the next day was phenomenal! Large spread which included omelette stations, bacon, corned mutton, an array of breads, local breakfast delicacies including hoppers, String hoppers, milk rice, Chicken and fish curry, dhal curry and various sambas are just a few items of the large selection! Overall, I would say our stay here was very enjoyable. They had gotten everything right from their food to their hotel grounds and rooms. I would say the only area to be looked into and possibly improved would be overall training of staff :)
"Perfect 'jungle' experience "
Cinnamon Lodge was the second hotel we visited in Sri Lanka and it did not disappoint. The hotel grounds were alive with wildlife, including monkeys, monitors and more.. it definitely added to the jungle experience. The restaurant and pool area were well kept and once again the service and staff were outstanding. Great elephant and village safari available from the hotel, although we organised through our tour operator, which we would definitely recommend. Definitely coming back!
Excellent facility, well spread out with space to walk around. lovely rooms. Apt for tourist to relax and travel at the vicinity. Service level can be improved, was kept waiting on arrival, delivery of luggage during departure took close to 45 minutes. Housekeeping cleanliness and overall maintenance of the property needs to be addressed. The property is quiet a distance from the main town, though basic provisions are available at a close walking distance, no proper dining area. Advisable to book meal inclusive package. Lovely breakfast buffet and dinner
