"Yet another Fabulous experience at a Cinnamon Hotel. This time its Cinnamon Lodge "
This April vacation had a family visit to Cinnamon Lodge. By the time we checked in, to the checkout it was a great experience we had there. Staff were really kind and helpful. Meals were fantastic. Comfort and the cleanliness was exceeding expectations. Special thanks to the room boy, Krishantha who was really helpful to us searching and fulfilling all our needs. Also thanking the customer relations executive, Hansi who was really friendly and was very nice to us. Hope to visit this great place in the near future. :)
Just spent three nights here and I can honestly say I've never been happier to pack up and leave a hotel before. Arrival and check in More like an open drive through area, very odd. Absolutely infested with little black bugs as well. Reception man had these little black bugs crawling all over his face whilst checking us in. It was like watching an African water aid advert! The resort Is built in a swamp! I kid you not, there are stagnant pools of water everywhere! And what do they do? Turn the sprinklers on!! Room More like a large shed. Doors and windows didn't fit the frames. Huge gaps under and over both. We had to stuff cushions and blankets in the gaps to keep the bugs out. You can't sleep with the windows open because of the monkeys and bugs so you have to listen to the ancient air conditioning unit rattle away all night. Mosquito repellent plug ins are provided but we went to a local supermarket and bought bug spray for the room as well. The bar Tiny! Not enough seats for everyone. Service is very, very slow as it would seem the barmen are more interested in watching the cricket on the TV than to complete anybody's order. Obligatory tax and 10% service charge added to everything as is the Sri Lankan way. Buts isn't the point of a tip to show gratitude for good service?! Apparently not here, it's another tax they add on to everything so they can give whatever service they feel like providing. Oh, the best bit? It's all open air! So you get to enjoy the long wait for your drink, from your moody waiter, in the discomfort of the Sri Lankan humidity with the bugs and mosquitoes! Fun! The main restaurant Food is standard buffet fare. The note worthy point here? This is also open air! Yay! Now I get to eat mundane buffet food in the discomfort of the heat, humidity bugs and mosquitoes too!! Oh, I could have chosen to eat in air conditioned comfort at one of the two other restaurants apparently but they were conveniently never open! My main gripe here though is the fact that you have to pay for water at dinner and breakfast! In a high end hotel?!? What?! The pool Large and surprisingly clean. Not enough pool beds though and you have to pay for beds and towels! The best part? Right next to the pool is a large stagnant pool of water! What's that smell I wonder?!?! In summary, we stayed for three nights and slept for one. The first night the air conditioning burst and poured water all over the floor so we had to try and sleep in the stifling heat. The final night I was still listening to thumping music at 1:30 in the morning. Reception said they would get it turned down but they never did. I cannot believe this place calls itself a luxury hotel. Overpriced, overrated, sweaty shed, in the middle of a swamp is a more accurate title.
"Fabulous and relaxing !"
We were spoiled the first time we stayed here - booked two room as a family of 4 (2 couples), but were upgraded to a suite. Loved it so much we decided to splash out this time and actually book a suite - again as a family of two couples. This time we were upgraded again(!) - to 2 suites, plus a butler !!!! Sumathi was very attentive and took great care of us - a real gentleman. The height of decadence - each suite is on two storeys, has two bathrooms plus a 3rd WC downstairs, a lounge/dining room plus upstairs balcony and downstairs verandah, all with stunning views across the grounds to the lake. The atmosphere in the lodge is very relaxing and tranquil with attentive and friendly staff on hand. The organic gardens and butterfly farm in the grounds are well worth a visit and the manager there is a fount of knowledge. When we left the Executive Chef came out to say goodbye and gave us boxes of home made chocolates and cookies for the trip. It is now wonder that we have promised ourselves a third visit. Thank you to everyone who made this stay so memorable .
"Outstanding hotel for families - amazing food choices"
We've come to the end of our stay in Sri Lanka. So we have a few hotels as comparison. We stayed here for 5 nights with 2 families (3 adults and 4 children) in 2 adjacent triple rooms Pros - Triple rooms were spacious and clean - Wifi worked in the rooms! - Rooms were not in a hotel building but rather groups of individual luxurious cabins in spacious gardens, located near the lake, with lots of trees. - The monkeys provided ample entertainment for us. We also saw land monitors, turtles and a water monitor in the gardens - Outsanding dinner and breakfast buffets. We all loved the variety of food avaialble - Sri Lankan, pasta bar, european, Chinese corner and of course the amazing dessert room. A chilled room, full of all sorts of desserts, icecream and fruit - Large hotel pool - Great location - we used this hotel as a base for Anuradapura, Sigiriya, Dhambulla, Minneriya and Polonaruwa - By far the best hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka Cons -Pool bar food for lunch was disappointing - small portions, slow service and expensive. - Dinner buffet started at 7.30 - we would have preferred an earlier buffet as we had younger children.
