"Verb good hotel"
Room very good clean and spaces we had top floor with a balcony either side of t h e room we stayed two days on our tour of Sri Lanka, clean sheets and towels. Monkeys running over the too fans jumping into the trees, don't leave doors open o r they will be in. Restaurant ok a bit large and very noisy reminds me of school dining room, food ok plenty to choose from. Very large swimming pool which was lovely. Along side the pool is a large lake. Lots of trees and gardens they also have a big plot of vegetable gardens growing their own veggies. Bar good and food good in bar, but at night a small band .playing very loud and not very good singer.
"Cinnamon Habarana Lodge vs Habarana Village"
I stayed at both properties in May 2017, so am in a position to compare the two. I give each of them 4 stars. I stayed at Habarana Village one night, and at Habarana Lodge for four nights. Both are comfortable, .pleasant places to stay. Both have nice swimming pools, and are situated on the lake and in treed areas with good birdlife and a few animals (two kinds of monkeys, monitor lizards, and giant squirrels). Both have the same annoying man trying to sell you things. At Habarana Lodge, he was trying to sell boat rides, Rs 1,000 for 10 minutes. At Habarana Village, he was beckoning me to come see his elephant. (I declined.) The service at Habarana Lodge is far superior. Staff there are more helpful, diligent, and have a better command of English. The dinner buffet is far more lavish at Habarana Lodge, and the cooking staff are more skilled. At Habarana Lodge, the egg cook made perfect poached eggs. At Habarana Village, the egg chef admitted he did not know how to poach eggs, and he did not even bother to clean out the remains of the previous eggs he had cooked before cooking my eggs. At Habarana Lodge, my husband had a cappuccino (at extra cost) every morning. At the Village, he could not get his morning cappuccino because the bar man had not yet arrived. We chose a Deluxe room at Habarana Lodge; if I return, I would probably stay in a Superior room, as I didn’t think the more expensive room was worth it. Our room was very dark, and there were some annoying design flaws. The closet was not big enough to fit the ironing board, so it stands propped against a wall. The bathroom was stifling. They had attached a fine mesh to the window, but it was too fine to allow in air. They provided privacy by mounting pieces of black cloth to the lower half of the windows. Other things we did not like about our room at Habarana Lodge: absolutely dreadful pillows, and pushing two twin beds together instead of providing a single large bed. Surprisingly, our basic (Superior) room at Habarana Village, which is the cheaper of the two resorts, had fine pillows, and a single large mattress. Things we did not like at Habarana Village: the water from the shower spilled out into the rest of the bathroom, and the bathroom mirror needed replacing, as it was heavily spotted. The pool mattresses were less either in poorer condition or simply not clean at Habarana Village. There was a considerable amount of trash on the lawn at Habarana Village. When I reported this to the manager late in the afternoon, he attributed it to a function the previous evening.
"A brilliant hotel"
This must be one of the best, perhaps the best hotel in the country. Romantic lakeside setting with monkeys on view from your balcony and chipmunks watching you eat breakfast. Quality well designed rooms and excellent quality buffets at both breakfast and dinner, catering for all tastes including the large number of Chinese visitors. Worth staying 2 or 3 nights. NB. tours and elephant safaris are best arranged just outside the hotels (plenty of drivers there). Also buy your water on the main road where it is 4% of the price charged by the hotel!
"Cultural triangle for two nights"
This hotel is set in vast gardens is a well located for a couple of nights if your visiting the cultural triangle within easy range of Sigiriya Rock fortress, Minneriya national park and Pollonurawa. Rooms are a good size and set in huge attractive gardens and whilst comfortably appointed could do with fleshing up. Pool is lovely and much appreciated particularly after climbing the rock. Buffet meals are of good standard, but feel a bit chaotic if the hotel is well occupied, but dinner by the lake is relaxed and special.
"Comfortable stay with average services"
I visit this hotel repeatedly for an overnight stay especially thanks to the comfort, facilities and convenience in travelling to other historical attractions. Hotel does keep the standards intact while trying to give many options for travelers to relax. Nevertheless the improvements of the standards, I see there are some needs for improvement in the front office and restaurant staff in meeting, greeting and dealing with the guests where my experiences are not up to the expectations in comparison to my previous occasions.
