Over Cinnamon Citadel

The Cinnamon Citadel is definitely a great choice in Kandy! The rooms and the pool are amazing. The breakfast we had there was one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. The location is a little offsite but the view on the river completely makes up for this. Highly recommended.
This hotel is lovely, right on the river. Great views from our balcony and rooms were oh a high standard and very clean. We even had an elephant made of towels on our bed, which was a lovely touch. Great selection for breakfast and dinner. I would defiantly stay here again.
"Disappointing - again !"
We were reluctant to stay here again after our previous experiences in 2015 but we had opted on this trip to stay at Cinnamon hotels throughout (5 of them), and were forced to break one leg of our journey (Yala to Habarana) because it was too far to do in just one day. When we arrived at around 5.00pm after an 8-hour drive, the welcome was warm enough (cold towel, fruit drink etc) and we were given the keys to set off and find our rooms (in the other hotels we were always taken to our rooms). The long walk to the rooms with stairs to negotiate going both up and down due to the strange layout of the hotel was a nuisance, and the strong smell of drains along the way was unappealing. Exactly the same as on our previous visit, the AC in our room did not work which we reported to reception. A man turned up eventually, fiddled with the unit and pronounced it fixed. It clearly was not so when we departed for dinner in a nearby restaurant, we advised reception and asked that the matter be resolved before we returned (about 2 hours). When we arrived back, the AC still not working and the room temperature was, I guess, somewhere in the mid-to-high 20's. The next complaint to reception asked for the duty manager to attend, which he did along with 3 technicians and a step ladder. By 10.30p.m. the matter was not quite resolved but fairly soon afterwards the AC started to work, at which point part of the unit fell apart and showered our belongings with debris on the bedside table. This was cleaned up and we were then allowed some peace and quiet to get to bed. Our son and daughter in law were in the next room and suffered the same problems - with one exception. Despite their complaints via reception, nobody visited their room to rectify the problem. This hotel is clearly lacking in certain aspects of management control and staff training. The resident manager who we met the following morning at our departure agreed to make a full refund and was apologetic but as these were the same problems we encountered 2 years earlier, I wonder if anything will actually improve. I would not stay here again.
Beautiful Hotel, gorgeous location. The restaurant staff members were extremely helpful and super friendly. The food was great. The only negativity was the room A/C was not so good, it needs an upgrade. I would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone.
"A revisit after 30 years!"
We went here on our honeymoon, revisiting with our family 30years on. Still lovely, much bigger now but retained original charm and beautiful décor. Rooms are quiet, views of the river, abundant wildlife. Location is close to Kandy. Staff are excellent and buffet meals were superb. Like a child in a sweet shop! Absolutely delicious! We would return tomorrow.
