"Everything about this hotel is nice except the service."

We were a part of a group tour of two nights and three day package organised by Amaya Resorts and Spas head office in Colombo. The first disappointment came when they said, since the required numbers haven't confirmed, we have to accommodate ourselves in a small passenger van instead of a luxury bus as advertised. It was definitely nightmarish to travel 300+ kilometers one way in a van all cramped up. The hotel itself was spacious and luxurious and all that travel fatigue just disappeared in an instance. The rooms were large and comfortable. The air-conditioning was acclimatized and assimilated with the temperature outside, That was definitely a plus point not very common in other hotels. The well maintained vast garden area gives ample relaxation. You can alternatively spend time in the sea or lazing in the large pool or the jakuzzi. The spread of food for all three meals was simply excellent with a variety of local and international cuisine and an array of deserts to satisfy all palates. All credit goes to that team of chefs. Just one area the management could improve is a courteous service from their staff. We just met only one steward in the restaurant by the name of Mahesh who was always with a pleasant smile and ready to serve. He stood out with the rest of the staff who always looked bland as if they were overworked. One steward was discourteous enough to barge into our room disregarding all norms of privacy just to check the mini bar and lock it up before our departure time, probably in the belief that we may pilfer something in it before checking out from the room. The climax of the entire tour was when we were locked out from our room with our luggage still inside, much before the departure time which the organizers stated in their tour itinerary. The explanation from the reception was that the system locked us out and we have to abide by that. The lack of co-ordination between the tour organizers and the hotel was very disappointing. .

"Lovely Resort..."

Reception good. Friendly efficient staff.. room was excellent and modern. Lovely decor great view of the beach. Nice big bed too. We stayed for 4 nights as got at good price room only rate. Excellent value . Beach excellent pool excellent. Staff really attentive a little too much to be honest. We did eat in the bar and the evening buffet food excellent. Not to expensive but drinks were expensive to be honest hotel prices. And tax is added also so be careful . Hotel is popular with local people and the food reflects this.. but good choice. Ideal if you want to relax and stay put as there is little outside the resort itself. On the whole lovely place just not much goes on.

Stayed two nights with the family. in two rooms. Booked through Hotels.com site which gave a better price than the Amaya Beach hotels own website. This is situated among a series of new luxury hotels in Passikudah which were built after the long years of war, which ended in 2009. I could not help the feeling that the mushrooming of these hotels are eating into each other with not enough occupancy. Pros Large area of land, probably the largest premises among similar hotels in Passikudah. We walked along the beach from one corner to the other , looking at all the hotels and felt that Amaya is the greenest and calmest of all. Architecture is old, probably like mid 90's compared to the other hotels in the area. But it is unique and feels serene at the same time. Large open spaces, very wide corridors. Frangipani trees full of flowers, which they pluck and use for decorations, Well maintained coconut trees in the backyard/pool area are all interesting features. Rooms were good. large, beds comfortable, room amenities great. I believe most of their rooms have a Sea view with a balcony, except perhaps for 10 rooms or so. House keeping is good, comes another round in the afternoon inquiring if the clients need refills etc. Power saving features include automatic turning off AC once you open the door to the balcony. Buffet dinner and BF were good with a reasonable variety but , may not be satisfactory to everyone ( F&B is perhaps the most difficult area to cater to everyone's liking) Staff was very friendly. receptionist Amal did a good job in checking in. hotel has elevators even though it had only 3 levels and this is quite useful if you have arthritic knees/ needs wheel chair etc. Superficial look at other hotels in the area gave me the feeling that some of the other hotels, though better looking from the front may not have elevators to all the rooms/levels. 50m pool was very clean, pool attendants are friendly armed with massive pool towels, A plenty of sunbeds around the pool as well as under the coconut trees in the garden. Public beach is just around the corner, ( next to the left side boundary of the hotel) and is safe for swimming but could be quite crowded specially on public holidays/weekends. Free wifi and it was quite good. cons: A disability access/ ramp to the pool area/ backyard could have been very useful. Unfortunately this is not considered in the design of many Sri Lankan buildings. Even now a simple ramp would easily fix the problem. My booking included dinner and Breakfast, but doing maths I felt it would be somewhat expensive to eat your meals from the hotel, Unfortunately there are not many good options around. My main concern was the difficulty in communicating with the hotel, prior to checking in. Once I booked through the booking site, it confirmed my two triple rooms for two days, but the confirmation email I received from the Amaya hotel was for one room for 2 people for one night. I emailed the hotel about this discrepancy but never got a reply. In desperation I contacted the booking site ( Hotels.com) who again emailed them but could not get a clarification from the Amaya Beach. Therefore I was in suspense until I checked in, thankfully everything was OK. Since I booked triple rooms I asked for an extra mug from the house keeping on the first day itself, which was promised but never delivered Overall, good value for money and I would not hesitate to stay there again

"Paradise in east"

Stayed for 2 nights. The rooms are very spacious and the design has focused on convenience without compromising the easthetics. The bathroom is very spacious with American Standards fittings and the finishing is excellent. Includes a rain shower. The toiletries are custom. The rooms face a wonderful beach with whitish sand. The food is sumptuous ... We've tried pasta, phad thai, fish and chips and fruits and enjoyed them all. The juices are freshly squeezed. For kids there are many activities - chess, table tennis, volleyball, PlayStation, darts. There are assisted snorkeling pads as well. Cycling is one activity one should definitely try along the Pasikudah-Kalkudah road. Miles of empty year carpeted roads with palm trees on both sides. The pool is 50m long 4 ft deep and the is a separate kids pool as well. The staff is very attentive and helpful. They've assisted is in many ways. The vast expanse of lawn gardens keep the kids at play. The gardens are very safe. One of the very best resort hotels in Sri Lanka

"Beautiful and Tranquil Beach Resort with Exceptional Service"

We were a family of 4 ( 2 adult children ) visiting from Adelaide Australia and decided to go away for 2 nights to Passikuda: We were taking my 2 adult Nephews with us for a family holiday. We were returning guests from when Amaya was still Centara in 2013 December. We loved the large and light filled rooms with exceptional amenities and generous and comfortable beds. More enthralling is the front reception and common areas which are minimalist in design reminiscent of Geoffrey Bawa and Blue Waters but much more modern. The open spaces are excellent. Check in was effortless with front office staff being efficient and courteous. The hotel was relatively full despite it being off season. We were on a half board package and the Breakfast and dinner buffet were extensive with an amazing Sri Lankan action station making hoppers and Dosai, and kottu roti delicacies as well as catering for the western palate.Thiaharan at the action stations is an 'Artist not a cook'. Special mention of Mr Asoka Ranatunga Asst F&B Manager who was always on the floor and paid great attention to his guest. He and his staff did an excellent job of making our stay special. He was quick to introduce himself as soon as we walked in and take us around the restaurant and beach house. Thank you. We were in room 4103 ,4104 & 4105 : the House keeping staff member Thas did an exceptional job of keeping our rooms well appointed: He was polite and always helpful . Thank you. Suraj at the beach House was also a helpful and friendly face as was many of the staff who have been retained from Centara days . We only had a small issue with loud music on the night of the 29 emanating from the Aqua lounge which was directly below our room 4105 resulting in poor sleep, but management was very good to acknowledge this and made an extra effort to make our last day in Passikuda special. Thank you Mr Priyanka Pamunuwa and Mr Asoka Ranatunga as well as Nihal for listening to us and for the food you packed for our journey back to Colombo, and some good will shown toward us in the offer you made me. kind regards Sam S
