Over Ao Prao Resort

"Hotel is fine, but has two stories!"

This was our second visit to this AoPrao beach and bay on KoSamed, three years ago we did stay at the sister hotel LeVimarn, therefore I have to devide my report between the Sorroundings and the Hotel. Please see my comments on the AoPhrao beach activitiy seperately below. The ckeckin at the Pier the speedboat rid and the very friendly welcome by Mr. Sant was wonderful, we felt like home right away. The new rooms are nicely Renovated, we have been fortuned to get the wished Room 411 with the best view at sundown. The nature of the Beach is great, the water clear and the sand is soft and calm to take anice swim. Beachboys have been very helpful and attentive due to the many outside visitors you need this kind of support and guidance. Breakfast needs a bit of improvement in the areas of Cappuccino offer, Fruits selection, Schoco suace, and variaty of change, but this was all easy to over come withthe excellent services Organization, specially Mr. Vuthy was always around and helpful. Restaurants are rather expensive for every night, so we discovered a nice evening walk to the main city and did enjoy chaeper Thai cooking. Great was the eveing dinner for us were the services managed rain and buffet movement at the same time, amazing. New Years dinner was massive and fun with the comprehensive music and culture program, for a good start in the new year! Thanks to thr team and GM Mr. Disachai Kattiyo-Thaivongs and his wonderful assistant. We hope the bay will improve as the Ao Prao did wirh the new add ons, thanks for a great vacation. AoPrao Beach Another lost paradise, the silence is gone! This treasury beach is gone, noise and people have ruined the paradise. We did stay three years ago at LeVimarn Resort at this beach and considered this the most beutiful and quiet beach close to Bangkok! Thats why we booked another 10 days at the beach, not for the Hotel or the luxury; the valuable assets of this bay, its the beach - peaceful freedom, quiet, water, sand and just relaxing. Now this is gone, the middle Hotel excepts tourist groups for lunch stops, carry them in in quantities by boat, and other tourist groups follow with snorkle Dinner and excursion trips. I have Counter five tourist boats all over on a small beach with limited space - sorry thats too much. Paradise is gone, people did run the peaceful environment, even our Hotel Management was powerless and to resist.

"Peaceful, Serene, Relaxing Resort"

Be ready to laze on white sandy beaches , swing between a few palm trees , kayak , go for long walks on the beach and sip cocktails . Ao Prao is a tropical paradise around 20 minutes speed boat ride from main land . We were greeted on the little makeshift jetty by the professional and friendly assistant manager who is a total gem . We were also privileged to meet Mr. Disachai who invited us to begin our New Year's morning by participating in receiving blessings from Monks . This was a very special experience tha we will cherish forever. Our room had the perfect beach view and was clean and well maintained. However, in the evening , we did have a septic tank odour infiltrating the room which we brought to the staff's attention. Even though they tried their best they couldn't fix it and offered another room. However, the other room also had the same odour so we decided to stay in the original room. Breakfast in the open air setting in front of the beach was a unique experience . The range could be improved slightly though. The pool is well positioned and has a bar attached .The New Years Eve Dinner events including the live band and Fire Show was fun. We took a taxi to go around the island and all the crowds , noise , hustle bustle is on the other side of the island. Ao Prao is ideal to just laze around and chillout in. The Spa is highly overpriced compared to other comparable places. The only dampner to our stay was the staff member who actually checked us in and just as we began to sip our welcome drink began going on about extra charges for a rollaway bed for our 10 year old . It was a total spoiler and turn off after the hearty welcome at the jetty !! We had emailed the reservation team and front desk weeks before our visit regarding the number of guests, ages of the children and had paid the peak premium pricing that we were asked to so it was unexpected to be hit with such extra charges . We have travelled to many 4-5 star resorts globally and have never been charged extra for the rollaway bed when we have paid such premium rates already. The other incident was the same staff member had booked a taxi for us from the mainland upon our departure from the resort and had reasdured us twice that it would be there upon our arrival . It was extremely frustrating as we were waiting for over an hour ( 2 kids and 2 adults ) despite the mainland staff member reiterating " moment please " . Strangely enough , as soon as we were pushed to our limit after an hour and half waiting and requested them to put a call through to Mr Disachai , the lady quickly talked to someone on the phone and the taxi was there within a few minutes. Unfortunately, this experience was totally unnecessary and made us really uncomfortable with not so fun memories at the end. We believe it has to be a team effort that makes the difference as we met some very dedicated staff members as well as a very unprofessional staff member as well and as it ended on a frustrating note , that is what we tend to think of first when we remember our visit to Ao Prao.

"Beautiful and clean resort on Koh Samet"

Although it may be overpriced for Thailand, it is mostly worth the money. An impressive resort with various types of rooms and price levels and very friendly and helpful staff (except when trying to order a drink). We chose a hillside room and it had a spectacular view. Reviews made it seem far away, but they are not, just about 3 levels of stairs. The resort has 2 pools; the infinity pool is my favorite. It has a pool bar, but nobody seems to staff it, so it was hard to get a drink and a bit of a tease. The resort shares a private beach with one other resort and the water is magnificent. Only other complaint is that there were not a lot of water activities to take part in for a resort. They basically had 1 windsurfing board and a few kayaks. Overall, a great experience though. Better for couples or families than friends traveling in a group.

"40y birthday!"

Really nice hotel and servive. The beach is wonderfull. Nice place to take a rest during few days with friends and family. If you look more fun during the night you can take taxi that bring you on the opposite of the island, even I think the taxi service is expensive, best way to more around. We will come back for sure.

"Very disappointed "

Ate at the restaurant and was so disappointed. Appetizer were good but main courses (pasta) were really bad and so was the service. Ordered drinks that weren't on the menu (regular espresso martini) and were charged 700 baht each, which is ridiculous. Most expensive dinner we had in Thailand (4700 baht) but with the worst food and not even deserts includes. Don't go there!
