Over Ao Prao Resort

"Great Relaxing Hideaway from BKK"

Short trip getaway from BKK was very relaxing in Ao Prao Resort. We stay at Premier Seaview room 307 which we really like and room is facing to the sea. The staffs are very attentive and friendly. Massage by the pool was very good and sooo relax. Mr. Payap who works at the restaurant is so nice and very active. We had a great time there and will definitely come back!!! Tips : Happy Hours at Buzz Restaurant in Le Vimarn Resort is super perfect to see sunset! Well Done Ao Prao Resort and Le Vimarn Resort Team!!!

"A complete disappointment for the price"

We have stayed at the Ao Prao Resort in the past and were much more impressed those times then we were on our most recent trip. When we pay over $218 a night for a Deluxe Cottage we have certain expectations, and those expectations where not meet. In many ways my room of about $31 per night in Bangkok was better than the Ao Prao Resort on this trip. Here are some of the issues that we encountered. There was no hot water in the sink, there was no aerator on the sink so water sprayed around the sink area, there was one tiny shelf in the very large shower to place items – there were remains of a larger shelving unit on the wall but it gone and not replaced, the shower had a frosted window that looks into the room – kind of creepy, there was no plug in the sink area for the hair dryer – the only one that was convenient was in the corner of the room away from a mirror, there was no place to conveniently plug in the hot pot for tea, tea was used but not replaced for the next day, there was only one chair in the room for sitting – one of us ended up sitting on the floor and later bringing in an outside chair to sit on – there is a sitting area in the room and from looking in the other Deluxe Cottages they had furniture in that area - ours had been removed at some point and not replaced, there were five throw pillows on the bed that were left on the floor after the room was cleaned our 2nd day, the cleaning people left the hair dryer on the floor after cleaning on our 2nd day, wine bucket with water was left in the room instead of being taken out, the toilet didn’t flush right – there was a bottle of sand in the tank to limit the amount of water being used to flush the toilet and while I appreciate and want to do my part for the environment multiple times we had to flush twice – water saved = none, the room needs a clock. After arrival, I went to the bar to ask for ice, I waited for the ice, received it in a dirty wine bucket and went back to my room with the ice. At no time did anyone say I would be charged for the ice. A while later a staff member came to the cottage and wanted me to sign for the ice as a room service charge and they called it lunch with a cost of 117 baht. Upon check out I did complain about the charge as it was not lunch, it was not room service and it was served in a dirty container (which was left in the Cottage instead of being taken away by housecleaning). The charge was petty to begin with and the woman behind the counter did remove it from our bill. We did have breakfast included with our room. The breakfast starts at 7 am but the staff were never ready at that time. There is a buffet but it is limited unless you eat meat – almost all the entrees had meat in them except the cold potatoes and the steamed rice. Juice tasted watered down. The butter was actually a margarine (or just a bad tasting butter, hard to tell). For bread there was a rye and a white wonder bread type of bread along with a breakfast danish (avoid this last item at all cost). The cheese lacked flavor and was hard to pick up with the utensil provided as the cheese was too warm. The yogurt was good – but they could have used some granola on the buffet to go with it. The fruit was tasty. The coffee was ok. The tea was Lipton and Twinning’s, which are fine but it would be nice to see Thai grown tea. The best place to eat is out on the deck just above the beach, however, you will need to grab your own utensils and bring them to the table from one of those set up next the buffet as these tables are not set up for the breakfast crowd. The beach chairs are looking old and dirty and for the number of potential guest there are insufficient chairs to meet the need (at least on the beach). Supposedly the price of entering the island – it is a National Park – is included in the price of our stay but there was not proof given that could be used with the Park Rangers. Just beware in case you are ever stopped outside of the resort area. The Ao Prao does have a speed boat to pick you up at their pier in Ban Phe and return you to the mainland. They only come for pick-ups a few times a day. We had no information from the resort on finding the Saree pier and we found the pier too late to make the boat at 11 am (missing the boat by three minutes) so instead we took the boat from the main pier that takes you to Nadan pier – about a 30 minute boat trip. If you arrive by bus to Ban Phe the bus station is right across from the main pier. As you are looking at the main pier from the bus station you want to take the road the pier is on to your right and walk down to the Saree pier about 500 meters or so. There is a nice resort office there to connect you with their boat. We did take the speed boat back from Ao Prao – reserve your space the day before – and it takes about 8 minutes to bet back to the mainland. Overall a huge disappointment.

What a fantastic island and an absolutely beautiful resort. There isn't anything we could complain about as we have visited this island before and knew what we were getting. Five star treatment in all aspects. Could live here forever....Food, people, beaches...what an amazing experience and we wish it had been for longer

"strange concept "

arriving as previous on saturday afternoon as booked and paid 4 months before we where surprise to get.other rooms that the o e we booked: no sea view or garbage sea view. they " upgrade me " in Le Vimarn" a sister hotel . The room.was very far ,old ...smelly and directly on the road. Then next morning i was waked up by dizains of noisy motors boat bringing hundreds of tourist and sending them for 30 minutes swim the hotel beach and then others replace them! next afternoon Ao prao give a beach bungalow but cheaper that what i booked.. no discount on monday i was very surprise to see groups of tourist coming by speed boat to eat at Ao proa resort .suppose to be very exclusive and quiet !!ahah next day was worth with an arrival of of group .of 20 noisy tourist who sleep one night in the resort ( for very cheap price as the receptionist tell me)and had there food ready on there table at 6pm!? i think this hotel is full at expensive price on week ends and the rent the llace for cheap tourist during the week. nice if you spend a lot of money for a week of holidays i was so bored that i left the place on Wednesday instead of Saturday, loosing 4 nights. tnanks a lot

"Captive but very content!"

Yes, you are a captive in a resort like this but we were very content. Our de luxe chalet was comfortable and well appointed the evensong from our local gecko never failed to raise a smile. Infinity pool lovely, breakfast plenty of choice, and evening meal good too. Service was good and we really had no problems at all. Recommended for peace and quiet!!
