"Not up to Scratch"
I would agree with the recent comments on this hotel The Hotel had changed names and ownership when we arrived and we were informed by tour representative We like to stay in beach bungalows so we had a pool villa. The pool was not much bigger than a jacuzzi 3 strokes to a length. ( would not pay the extra for this again) A tired room in need of refurbishment, worn out frayed towels and damaged sun beds do not make a 5* hotel Light fittings and taps in the bathroom were all loose. Stained furniture in the room. When asking for additional tea and coffee in our room the service was very slow Room service was intermittent and inconsistent 1 day we would have a face cloth and small towel then next day none !! Why were they not replace ? Food and beverage prices are the highest we have ever encountered in Thailand so we frequented the Rim Lay Bar just outside the hotel grounds on the beach for drinks, meals and a massage. If you walk out of the hotel to the main road there is on the right hand side two small supermarkets where you can get snacks and drinks at local prices. We used the laundry service at the hotel which cost us 60 pounds!!! we then used the Laundry service at the Rim Lay restaurant which cost us 6 Pounds for the equivalent amount of washing. We have been to Khao Lak 3 times before, so would we return yes, the beach is worth it but not to this hotel.
My Husband and I purchased a Luxury escapes 8 night deal to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We booked our stay for February, and a few month prior upgraded to a pool villa, and are so pleased we did. We paid a few extra dollars to be picked up in Patong where we had stayed for 2 nights before heading to the Resort. Our driver arrived on time and we traveled the 2 hour trip in a comfortable modern air conditioned car with bottled water provided. Now as some of you will already be aware, Thailand driving is seriously the worst. Nobody sticks to the speed limits, there are cars constantly passing and driving on the wrong side of the road, scooters everywhere, it literally can be heart stoping as a passenger. Our driver was great and we were amazed at how considerate he was and carefully he drove. We were greeted at the resort by Moo who made us feel so welcome. The pool villa was awesome. Huge living space, clean and modern with a massive bathroom, outdoor rain shower, huge bath/spa, and all the toiletries you would need include shampoo, shower gel, moisturiser, toothbrush, hairbrush, nail care kit etc. The bed was large and comfy with feather pillows. The pool was larger than we expected with a jacuzzi built in at the far end. A day bed, sun loungers, a small table with chairs by the pool and nice garden with high walls for privacy. A bottle of Bubbly, a fruit plater and some yummy cupcakes were in the room to wish us a happy anniversary. A lovely personal touch that we really appreciated. Mena our housekeeper was an absolute gem and we loved her little extras, especially the orchid flowers. Being villa guests we ate breakfast at The Terrace which was fantastic. Right on the beach and so much choice, egg station was our favourite. Im disappointed some other reviewers have said that the Cafe Lilawadee breakfast was not up to standard. We ate breakfast at both venues and the standard of food and service was the same, the only difference we could say is that the Cafe was busier. Being on the Luxury escapes deal meant we had set menus for lunch and dinner. We had no complaints and had some delicious meals at Bamboo and Baan Thai.Plunge Bar was good for lunch too. For something different walk either way down the beach and you will find a couple of great restaurants, good value and nice food. Bamboo was our choice for dinner, on the beach and the staff were fabulous and some great entertainment by a fantastic Duo. Our Villa Host Jack had been on leave so we only meet him 2 days prior to us leaving, but what a great fellow, thank you Jack, you made our last couple of day great fun, thanks for your company. You can grab a taxi or a shuttle to go to town or the markets and we spent a couple of days strolling the markets and visiting town, in particular the Tsunami Museum. There is a mini mart at the entrance to the resort and you can request a buggy to take you to the entrance to pick up some cheap alcohol and necessities and there is cheap laundry service across the road. We booked all our tours through the tour office at the resort. We had seen a few guests (who had booked tours from companies outside the resort) stranded in the lobby in the early hours of the morning, so booking through the resort seemed liked the right thing to do. We sat with Nid and told her a few of the things we wanted to do and see, and she was fantastic..! She booked us 2 tours with Eco Lak Tours and we had a great time. Nid just got it right for us, and she was great fun..! On our last day she booked us a driver for a full day to take us to Big Buddha, Chelong Temple, Old Phuket Town, Seafood Dinner then to the airport... and it was cheap..! Big Big thanks to Nid. So I've left the most memorable part of our stay till the end... The Staff. This was my Husbands first ever trip overseas, and being an Aussie he loves to make friends, and he made a lot at this resort and all of them were staff. This resort has the most genuine people representing their beautiful resort. We meet some of the most hardworking, happy, friendly, kind and considerate people who go out of their way to make you feel at home. I could name a dozen staff from the gardeners to the front office staff who we will never forget, but Taro will always be in our hearts. We watched Taro deal with the best and the worst of "guest dilemmas" and he never faltered, always ready to please, always professional, always with a smile. This is a lovely resort, beautiful villas, clean beach, stunning pools, great Spa, delicious food, plenty of relaxation, would we revisit ?... most definitely. This is a stunning resort in an even more stunning location.
I couldn't decided between 4 or 5 star rating. Our garden villa was heaven, (only thumbs down was the very slippy shower-the non slip mat provided was essential but small) we just loved it, the staff were all lovely, very friendly from the main staff to the gardeners. Breakfast at 'The Terrace' was a wonderful way to start the day looking out along the beach. The beach too was beautiful, well 'gardened' every day. There is a park within the grounds with peacocks, deer, a lake and rain forest which was nice to wander round The complex was nowhere full and I think would not have been nearly so pleasant if it had been. We understand it is being sold to a German company. What we didn't like was the 'them and us'. Us villa folk definitely had the best of it with our own part of the beach and sunloungers spaced out rather than in rows. We spent the first few days getting lost whenever we tried any route other than via the beach - in spite of the map provided, the grounds are a Miriad of winding paths. My 4 year old grandson would have disappeared in seconds! Apart from breakfast we thought the food was overpriced and disappointing. The ads boast 6 restaurants but only 3 are open of an evening. Ads also say it is an hour from Phuket it is actually more and the road is very bendy (not good for anyone with motion sickness!) There are only two nearby beach restaurants and there is a long drive in from the road so the usual huddle of local restaurants are missing though there is a very small supermarket selling mostly drink. We would stay there again.
We are currently on our 4th day of our 8 day stay and wow is all i can say. The resort is amazing, beautiful grounds, great pools and the beach is sensational. We immediately felt like we were in our own private paradise. We are in a katilya villa f5 with plunge pool it is fantastic. Our 14 yr old will be joining us soon and there is a roll out bed for him as well. The resort is very large with different pools in differant areas so plenty of place to swim with the main 2 pools being very big. The staff are very friendly and always greet with a smile which is great. The resort is about 60% capacity but we wouldnt be able to tell as we can walk around the resort and not see many people except in the main area. We got our deal through luxury escapes which included 3 meals a day and after reading some reviews i was worried about the food but it has been superb and plenty of it. Baan thai has had the best thai food ive had on my 2 week trip so far including patong the menu for us had plenty of choices and i really felt i was having authentic thai food. With the inclusive deal you have a specific menu to choose from which limits what you can choose but we havent been dissapointed yet. The buffet lunches were great and i dont usually like buffets but plenty to choose from, the pasta and noodle staions were really nice. Breakfast in the terrace bar near our villa is amazing and right on the beach. (I cant think of a better way to start the day) yes the prices in the resort are pricey compared to the rest of thailand and more like the prices at home in melbourne, but happy hour drinks and the bars and restaurants just up from the resort are well priced and great value. Rock pool bar which we visited last night was amazing for a few nightly cocktails overlooking the ocean. I read reviews that said this place was run down and i honestly can't see it it is better than i expected as it is a massive resort in a tropical climate. It is amazing. Id recommend this resort to anyone who wants a holiday in paradise. Id recomend the villas over the normal rooms. Nothing wrong with the rooms they are great its just nice having a little privacy and your own plunge pool amd the villas have there own private pool and beach area for villa guests. The grounds are amazing you really feel like your in a tropical paradise. We would definitely come back and considering for our honeymoon as ive said before PARADISE!! I hope this helps Christian K
From the moment of arrival to the time of departure everyone at the resort could not do enough to make it a fantastic holiday. Even when the paths were flooded the staff pick us up and took us where we wanted to go
