"Great resort in a good location but missing that extra wow!"

We visited this resort as the final 10 days of our 21 day trip to Thailand. In many ways I knew what to expect as a large number of reviews commented on the general standard of the accommodation. Our room was no exception, it was clean, tidy and comfortable but in need of an upgrade. The staff around the hotel were really friendly and helpful but they lacked many of the skills required in a top class hotel. I sense the hotel is a tale of two parts, if you are a pool villa guest, with breakfast at the Terrace and your own hosts I suspect your experience was probably different to mine. We did not allow the shortcomings of the hotel to spoil our holiday as the location is fabulous with a huge swathe of sandy beach and reasonable facilities. The pool is huge but again cracked tiles, broken rails etc show the amount of work needed around the resort. The restaurants were expensive for both food and drink and the standard of food was pretty dire. Don't try the Club Sandwich! The resort is someway out of town but the hotel provides transport at a cost. This will allow you to visit local restaurants and markets. There are a couple of local beach restaurants and massage shops near to the hotel which are busy with guests from the hotel, so much so that you might need to book your table. Despite all the negatives we did enjoy our stay, your holiday is what you make it and why wouldn't you with the sun, sea and beach of Khao Lak. We would certainly come back to the area but I suspect it will not be to this hotel unless something changes.

"60th birthday celebration disappointment"

We have just arrived at the hotel and agree it is really tired and dated. The web photos are very flattering. Disappointing as this is to celebrate my mums 60th and I chose the hotel and convinced my parents to come here instead of the Marriott. Such a shame as we have saved up for this trip for some time. We booked via Destinology who offer premium holidays and came up trumps with the Pullman Phuket (totally fab). We have tried to get another room but it's an extra £400 a night. Another frustration is the cost of the shuttle into town, any saving on food versus the hotel wiped out. Think before booking, fine if you get this for a cut price deal and know you are coming somewhere in need of a facelift

"Wonderful 10 days."

My husband and I spent a fabulous 10 days here in January. We stayed in a beach front pool villa. The beach is stunning and clean with loads of restaurants dotted along. The resort itself is clean and well organised. Breakfast in the Terrace over looking the beach was top quality. The staff were all so friendly and obliging. There are two villages a short taxi away from the resort with even more food and drink options. You will never get bored! The weather was dull and over cast most days while we were there but it made no difference as the resort and surrounds are so good. We only ate once at the resort (outside of breakfast) and this was expensive and mediocre, however it mattered not with the multitude of other dining options so close. We booked through accor two days before accor dropped the hotel (or vice versa?) We were so close to cancelling our stay, but I'm so glad we did not. I have visited quite a few places in Thailand over the years, but i have to say Khao lak is now my favourite.

"Great stay"

We had a great four night stay at this amazing resort. The beach is beautiful and goes on and on. We stayed in a garden cottage with pool and my parents were in an ocean front cottage. Both were fantastic. The staff were very attentive. The pool areas were great. The food was average. My parents attended a Chinese New Year celebration at the hotel while we were there that was pleasant but very expensive.

"family holiday"

we loved this accor resort. we upgraded both rooms to pool villas.the villa pools were set in lovely surrounds. the rooms were well appointed too. amenities in villas were restocked every afternoon . you just rang and the villa hosts would organise things for you. jackie and jack were our villa hosts - we had more to do with jackie. she was a great asset to the hotel. she went above and beyond what we would expect. we found it quite warm in Dec but Jackie would find time to drop us to places using golf carts - was great when going to dinner and did not want to arrive all sweaty. we could get as much ice and cut limes as we needed any questions we had she would always aim to find the answer asap. Jack helped the boys with a couple of local tourist places and always said hi at brekky we were on a luxury escapes deal but never did we feel we were treated differently. all the food was covered by the deal and was on a set menu. we found the food to be western style thai which was nice but bit disappointing- we assumed would be more local style but we kept forgetting to ask about the normal menu but I suppose we could have paid extra to eat off it. f+b manager Richard was very helpful too, he spoke excellent English and was able to point us in the right direction our daughter did a group bike ride with the games person to rainbow waterfall- highly recommend this place.... you can even hire private taxi to there. the spa was lovely- we enjoyed our treatments there. cooking class was not very interactive but we got the recipes... there were 6 pools and i swam in every single one !- as it was Dec they were bit warm. but that was not a surprise. there was a hotel taxi to Khao Lak which was cheap- did a little shopping and exploring . we went to the Tsunami museum there, it was a shame it was not better set up for tourists - could have set up video / pics/ maps better to show the devastation caused in 2004. it was quite a trek south back to Phuket to get transfers to Phi Phi etc and further north to other islands so we thought to stay fairly local. we could find some tours but they all offered same temples. we could not find eco friendly elephant spot- we refused to use the groups that hire out rides on elephants rent own driver through guest services to do own thing to see things at your own pace... markets at KhaoLak are an experience- be prepared to barter or be ripped off! go to the turtle sanctuary that is run by the thai navy- not greatly advertised or well supported by paperwork there but they are doing a great job to rehabilitate damaged turtles and help to regenerate the poplulation . local restaurants either side of hotel are worth a visit- food good. be warned- one does require a small creek crossing beach side massages were cheaper and available both sides of hotel. laundry was really cheap just outside the gates of pullman. you can get golf cart to the end of driveway and you walk across the road to lady's house who does washing/drying for 100 THB per kilo- bargain!!
