"Beautiful Resort and Location - Other things can be improved"

Spent 3 nights here going into the New Years holiday. 1st thing is if you don't speak Thai have the resort book a transfer for you as you may have a hard time explaining where you need to go. Even though the resort is very close to Ao Nang it can only be accessed by boat. The boat runs only one time an hour. I will go into this later. The transfer from the airport takes about 40-50 minutes depending on the Traffic. One thing about all these beautiful resorts in this area is you will drive through it all to get to your final destination. The transfer was seamless. Once you get to the boat dock the process of them confirming you have a reservation on the boat begins. This is probably the thing that I think can be improved on as our names were not on the check in sheet at the airport as I booked day of and the driver confirmed the boat transfer. The boat transfer is only a few minutes and arriving at night is really neat as the rocks behind the resort are lit up. The resort is really nice and I was escorted to the lobby. There was a problem when I booked with the payment and I contacted the resort and paid but over paid - I was hoping they had fixed it by check in but I had to remind them of the issue, and once again at check out. Be careful as this was a few thousand baht error that If I had not paid attention would have gone in their favor. It took them a little time and it took away from the arrival experience. They do bring you a drink and a cool towel. The staff is very nice and friendly and I think its a lack of follow through from management that causes some of the issues. I had booked a garden view spa suite and was taken to the room, this was the last room in the resort. The walk to room 1082 was up a lot of stairs and they are not normal -but wooden and not even, expect to find the same if you use the monkey trail. I am not sure if I was assigned a room that others had checked into and then moved from but there were things that didn't work and were out of place. There were 2 plates and silverware and a card saying enjoy their fruit and no fruit. The safe was locked. The fan was not working and some other general house keeping items. The rooms could use a refresh as items are showing wear along with paint and other things. I am not one to complain in my reviews however I think these things need to be pointed out as management made it a point to ask for 2 different surveys. One after the first day and one after I left. The first day one was addressed by a manager only after I had to address many of the items with maintenance and the front desk. Not the way I want to start when I get to a hotel at 9pm. I went back down to the beach and ordered dinner at the beach bar and the food was great. I have no complaints on food and beverage. The staff did a great job and the food and drinks were reasonably priced and always good. When I got back to the room the fan was fixed. The bed was solid and A/C does work well when you crank it down. Do listen to people about keeping your door locked as the next morning I work up to commotion in the next building as the Monkeys had arrived. People though it would be fun to feed them but they can be a little aggressive and when your not looking they know where to go in the room to get to the snack bar and they will take the food. This was the first time I got to see the view. Even though i was in a garden suite, the room had a view down to the water. Tells you about how high up I was. Breakfast is done at the main restaurant and there are many choices. One thing they wanted to charge extra for was Iced coffee, didn't make sense when everything else was being offered. Biggest issue is them running out of glasses. Many choices of food for everyone. I have stayed at many hotels that had spreads like this and I would say it was in the middle not over the top but also no where close to being the bottom. The pool and beach are really nice. Typical to many resorts you have one person that gets up at some stupid hour they go get towels and reserve seats that they don't use for most of the day. I was still able to find some seats not too far away from the pool. The water in the ocean is warmer than the pool and is really clean. The sand on the beach is also nice and soft. There is this monkey trail. Its a steep stair case up a mountain and down to get from the resort to the main part of town. Its lit up at night but I would not do it if you were drunk. If you go to town you can take the boat- a long tail or take the trail. I decided one afternoon to use the trail. Expect a workout. I had made reservations for 1030 to come back and ended up calling and coming back at 830. Its the one issue with the resort as the boat only can hold so many people. Also it sits at the dock for 15 minutes almost every time before they load it. Not sure why they cant load it and run a 20 minute schedule. They also have to use a different boat at low tide - even with a long pier the tide goes out a long way as the water is shallow at the resort. Its also funny one boat ride they will make you wear life vest the next time they are not in sight. I am pretty sure if you go to town at night and need to get back - you can hire a long tail - there are many of them along the beach - just not sure of the cost. I know its not a long ride but I am sure they will charge you for it. It seemed every time I went through the lobby there were people there with some sort of issue. Like I had mentioned for a high end resort there needed to be a higher level manager that should step in on these issues. When I was checking out this one guy had had key issues multiple times and other issues and it just seems like the way things are address is not great. To address our issues management sent a bottle of sparking rose and fruit. The funny thing was the bottle was flat - just seemed par for the course. Overall the resort is really nice and the food is also good. Didn't try many of the other places but people all said it was good. Like I said staff were extremely friendly. and overall I would probably go back in the future. The price is in the middle of the road. I just cannot justify some of the prices places like the Ritz charge. The key is book early and lock in a good price. At checkout had the same issue with my bill and it took a while to fix and give the credit. Then you wait for the boat- that is sitting there ready to go. When you get to the harbor there will be people there that can arrange a taxi to the airport for you. Expect it to be about 700 baht per the sign and I found it to be the same.

"Amazing "

"Another great stay at Centara in Krabi"

This is our 3rd stay at this lovely hotel. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to in our second week. All the staff are always there to help especially the lovely receptionist who always is keen to help with a nice smile. Perfectly located, near two beaches, lots of restaurants and shops. Everybody speaks very good English and no request was too difficult for them. Massage, pizzerias and fine dining were all located very close to this hotel. We will be back for a 4th visit in 2018!

"Fabulous view, nice accommodations, but meh"

A protected, almost private beach, and a stunning view make this a must see. The accomodations are nice, albeit showing some age. The food was relatively good, but incredibly overpriced. The seclusion was pleasant----to a point. Leaving takes planning (either a boat ride, or a short, sweaty jungle trek). If money isnt an issue and you dont plan to get off your lounge chair, this is perfect for you. Otherwise, Centaura is just a good day trip.

"Scenic and peaceful"

Although this is listed as a resort, owing to the clever layout of apartments amongst jungle planting, courtyards and water features, it does not feel at all resort-like in the usual sense. There are kayaks, hobie cats, trips to other islands and various excursions that can be arranged by the hotel, so although the access to the hotel is only by boat (or Monkey trail to Ao Nang) it does not feel at all cut off. There is a sandy beach and although Thai beaches are open to the public, not many visitors were dropped off for the day and it was not at all crowded. There was a large and varied buffet breakfast , well worth including in your room rate and we especially liked the Thai restaurant and the beachside one where you can drink tropical cocktails with your feet in the sand. All the staff were helpful and charming. The shuttle boat leaves the hotel on the hour, and returns from the Ao Nang pier on the half hour. The hotel pontoon is made of floating plastic squares, so wobbles up and down with every wave. This could be awkward for those of limited mobility and the shuttle boats could be larger and of an easier design to access at the town pier (very steep steps and a scramble onto the foredeck ). On arrival,we were asked our departure flight times so we could be booked onto a boat in time for a taxi to the airport, which was efficient and sensible. The monkies are the size of large cats (certainly not chimpanzees !) and are no trouble, though you do need to keep the doors firmly closed as they will try to open them. The spa offers a large variety of treatments and is well worth a visit. The scenery is really spectacular with limestone cliffs hanging with stalactites and greenery surrounding the resort and amazing karst towers of rock rising vertically from the sea.We had a really peaceful and relaxing time and hope to return.
