"10 days of comfort and cosseting at Colony Club. "

My wife and I stayed here for 10 days recently . Barbados is a lovely island and it's impossible not to have a good time but staying at this hotel enhanced the whole experience . We had a room with a sea view and a terrace for sitting, reading and relaxing on. The room was fine , not outstanding but comfortable with everything you need . Only complaint was I could not get the Nespresso machine to work ( as I was told this was oust one of the many ways I was no George Clooney !) The beach is outstanding , plenty of beach loungers , staff bringing you drinks , free nibbles , etc . The hotel has a boat which shuttles to the other three Elegant Resort hotels and you can visit these for lunch or a drink . The water sports centre is really good , Mrs M learned how to paddle board , she said the instructed was excellent, she also enjoyed Pilates and yoga classes that were on offer. There are two very good bars that both have Happy Hour and serve every sort of cocktail you can think of. The food was outstanding , with an emphasis on fish , I think it's one of the best hotel restaurants I have been in . Great breakfasts , light lunches and speciality dinners including a fabulous Lobster night - my Thermidor as as good as I have ever had. The best thing was the staff ,polite , cheerful and incredibly helpful, nothing was to much trouble and there was a genuine feeling of warmth about every interaction with them from management down. While we were there it was Barbados 50th anniversary of independence and there was a cocktail party and special b-b-q evening , which could have been spoiled by a terrible rain storm had it not been for the staffs determination that everyone should have a good time. This was not a cheap holiday but was worth every penny and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others ,nor in returning ourselves in the future.

We stayed here for the first part of our honeymoon and we couldn't have picked somewhere better. Our room was an ocean view room on the top floor. It was so close to the ocean it was practically in it and our balcony had a lovely view. We were very pleased with it. We didn't do all inclusive but did eat here multiple times. The food was really good (couldn't get enough of the flying fish!) with generous portions. The fruit punch was delicious. Breakfast was excellent and included local foods which changed every day. I have never stayed at a hotel with such brilliant staff. Every person we met was friendly, polite and welcoming. They went out of their way to accommodate and assist us. A special mention should also go out to the water sports guys who were great. They were friendly and funny and helped make our stay really special; we'd never done any water sports before! The only rubbish part was having to leave!

Had my eye on this hotel for a while and finally got to visit for a week. Loved it immediately. Hotel - unique, Staff - sincere and not intrusive, Food - a bit expensive but very good, Room - beautiful and extra welcome drinks too because we had to wait a few minutes for our room to be ready when we arrived. Seems like good customer service to me. It is true what everyone says about the beach and pool chairs but the hotel was full and some emergency tree surgery blocked off about a quarter of the beach for couple of days. Every morning about 6am the beach chair dash begins. By 7.30 most had been reserved. By 9.00 there was no chance yet only ten or so out of the 80 odd on the beach were occupied by bodies. The rest were being enjoyed by books, shoes, snorkelling equipment and a large inflatable shark (see photos). The beach/pool attendants do their best but are fighting a losing battle against the selfish, but stress not - have a polite word & they will find you a perch asap. This was our first visit but many guests were regulars and very friendly. The Tuesday evening cocktail party is a great way to get to know people and after a few free rum punches the annoying person who left their stuff on their unused beach chair all day is suddenly your best friend. Genius idea by the CC! I really enjoyed using the free water taxi up and down the coast to other hotels in the chain. (Take your hotel ID) Its a nice thing to do instead of getting irate about the beach chairs and at Crystal Cove & Tamarind we had no difficulty in finding a shady spot as they have rather blunt notices about their reserving policy. There were lots of thoughtful little things we really liked about the CC. Bottled water placed in your room at turn down and even bottles of water given to us on departure. They take extra care to make sure you keep hydrated. Tap water was served and plentiful at all meal times. We also enjoyed the snackettes delivered by the beach ambassadors at intervals during the day, and the self serve coffee and tea on the terrace in the mornings. That would have been a great thing to have all day because the coffee pots for served coffee were way too small - a pot for 3 was about two and a half cups. All OK when its included in the meal but more annoying when you have paid B$24 for 2 coffees and it barely fills the cup. I would expect at least 2 cups per person at that price. Breakfast is lovely. Everything you would expect without being over indulgent. At breakfast they offer a printed summary of the days events including dining options - take note of the prices quoted for buffet night - the Tuesday buffet had mysteriously gone up by $5 per person when the bill arrived. But it was sorted out when I provided the evidence. When I go back to Barbados I will most certainly stay at The Colony Club again. Its not one of those hotels where you could be anywhere in the world and there is no other place quite like it. I couldn't ask for better. ( well - maybe more coffee!)

"Back after 23 Years"

We had an Ocean View Suite which was probably the best we have ever stayed in anywhere. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom suite was luxurious. The terrace was huge and beautiful views. Food was excellent but expensive as it is everywhere in Barbados. Happy hour introduced us to the Caribbean Martini which was to die for. Breakfast was very good but unfortunately despite the good food the place was absolutely dead at night. We had a great evening on the sunset deck with a beautiful moonlit sea as a back drop to our meal and we were the only people there. On average we would think that the restaurant was only a quarter full at night. This is something that Management must address. In all our time there we did not see the General Manager once about the place which we found strange as we went to Blue Waters in Antigua and the entire Management team were regularly chatted to guests at different times of the day. The Beach and Water Sports staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful. It was great having canapés, ice cream. Tea was confusing as it was only available once in our ten day stay. We enjoyed Barbados but it has become built up and very expensive. There has been significant erosion of beaches which is a great shame. A very good hotel but the island has changed.
