"Not quite as good as expected "

We have just returned from our first visit to the Colony Club. It was my first visit to the island and my husband hadn't returned for 30yrs. Most of the staff were excellent, polite, attentive and hard working. The breakfast was great and service at the pool/beach too. I thought that the grounds were just too small to accommodate the number of guests, you could not hold a private conversation on your sunbed, if you could get a sunbed. Guests started "bagging" their beds before 7am...ridiculous for what is supposed to be a sophisticated hotel. The building is looking shabby and needs maintenance, especially the paintwork and the roof leaks like a sieve. The beach areas were not we maintained where they came up to the hotel areas. Our room was lovely, spacious and well equipped. We were very disappointed that the watersports were cancelled at the slightest hint of a swell, far too over cautious. Our fellow guests all seemed to be regular visitors to the hotel but I would try somewhere else next time.

This is our 3 visit to this hotel. It is very tired in places. Lots of rain coming through ceilings. In the middle of a Yoga class water was pouring through the roof. Paint peeling off on the floor areas. The wifi is completely useless in the rooms. For the second year in a row we were woken up 5 days in a row at around 5.00am by rubbish trucks running engines for 20 minutes. Unless you are up at 6.00am forget beach beds. Lastly change of management for the second time in a year. The whole hotel is in need of complete refurbishment.

"A week at the Colony Club"

We’re just back from seven nights staying at the Colony Club in Barbados. On arrival we received a generous and delicious bottle of Perrier champagne delivered to our room. Next, the Head Chef and his/her team should be recognised and praised for the consistently excellent, delicious and beautifully presented food they served. A credit to the hotel. The first class tennis courts were largely unused, the yoga/pilates classes were also excellent, as was the musical entertainment, which was generally melodious, enjoyable and well done. However, the Colony Club is patently suffering a crisis of management/leadership, with whoever he or she is, invisible and appearing to put almost no thought at all into their job. They need replacing urgently. The most-ready sign of that failure was the attitudes of the staff, ranging from the welcoming and delightful (particularly the maintenance staff, the doorman and some of the beach staff), to the surly, with too many employees just going through the motions without any joie de vivre. Then the state of the hotel is displaying obvious signs of under-investment. The Orchid Room roof was seriously leaking rainwater, some roof and wall paintwork has not been repainted/touched-up, lightbulbs had gone but not been changed, the state of the gardens, while well maintained, are disappointing when compared to the Coral Reef’s beautiful garden next door and there’s a general air of the whole hotel’s fabric being faded and unloved. Evidently too, little thought has gone into the structure of the public-areas. With no games room, there is literally nothing for guests to do but mope about when it rains. There was also a general air of disorganisation, with variously, a broken cupboard in our room when we arrived, towels forgotten to be delivered to our room one day, our room regularly made up much too late, tables not wiped before dinner (two nights running), staff at breakfast completely disorganised (it once took 25 minutes to receive coffee!), no cappuccino machine (or certainly not one that works) and despite it being against the hotel’s stated policy, the ridiculous system of beach deckchairs (which are very comfortable) being reserved before 6.30 a.m. and then sitting empty for hours and hours, etc. etc. The Colony Club is one to avoid at the moment.

"Perfect Hotel in Beautiful Barbados"

We stayed in the Colony club for 11 nights at the end of November / early December and had an absolutely wonderful time. We had one of the pool rooms on the lower level and it was perfect for us with a gorgeous patio area and steps down into the pool which enabled us to wake up in the morning and step straight into the pool, which was lovely way to start each day. The room itself was spacious and extremely comfortable and looked after really well by the room staff and we didn't want for anything. We very much mixed it up while we were staying at the Colony spending half our time out and about and enjoying all the wonderful local restaurants and all the Island had to offer from excursions of wonderful old colonial buildings, churches and even the last working windmill to hiring a soft top mini car to tour the island. We also spent half our time enjoying the hotel and all the water sports it had to offer and the beautiful beach and superb snorkelling. You could not fault the gorgeous food served right through from breakfast to dinner - all fantastic and I could not find a single fault. Finally the staff from all parts of the Hotel from the water sport staff to restaurant and bar staff to reception staff and management were all cheerful courteous and could not do enough for you. We also were leaving late afternoon so that we could stay on the beach all day we were offered a courtesy room to shower and change half hour before our departure, this was a wonderful idea and even made our last day memorable. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and very much look forward to going back to enjoy it again myself.

"Again a perfect stay"

This was the 3th time we stayed at the Colony Club and we will come back. Beautiful setting far away from the busy road, at one of the most beautiful beaches of Barbardos. Lush gardens with a meandering pool. Comfortable beds at the pool and at the beach with much shade (be sure to be early to occupy your bed, you are not alone). Plenty of watersports (motorized = 1 a day). The colonial style of the hotel breathes the relaxed atmosphere of the Caribbean. The rooms are big, clean and have all the comfort you need. Staff is very friendly, helpful and always smiling. Breakfast, lunch and diner have plenty of choice and are both tasty as attractive. We'll be back
