"The not "Fake News Review""
Waiting for our departure shuttle at Sandals Barbados and would like to review. Husband and I give it 4 only because when you first walk in it does not have that same Wow factor like the other three we visited. I am talking coming out of lobby and seeing the large Sandals archway and seeing the pool and ocean beyond it. I am sure new property will have that. Speaking of construction it is absolutely not an issue. We are beach people and so the sound of the waves overpowered any sound. Beach is small yes but plenty of chairs in and out of shade and water is beautiful with the waves. We were in everyday. Our only other complaint was they need other options for lunch(would love a Barefoot by the Sea). Entertainment and piano the best of all Sandals we have been too. Room a little worn but beautiful ocean view in Royal House. Concierge and housekeeping was great and so was room service. Staff was great. Thank you Rodney for perfect Cadillac Margherita! Did half day tour of island with Sanjay! So wonderful! Best of all we were winners of free trip which we won at great Reunion dinner! Thank you loyalty staff for handling any concerns we had!
"Wonderful, carefree holiday"
Firstly, laying ghosts to rest- we were aware of the building works next door, but they were absolutely not a problem for us, our friends, or indeed for any of the other guests we spoke to. The property is smaller than most Sandals, but that added to its charm. The location is excellent, the rooms as sharp as you would expect, the staff were the friendliest we have encountered across the Caribbean, food excellent and drinks plentiful. There were a couple of niggles which it is worth highlighting- they could do with another restaurant open for lunch- one isn't enough. And it would be helpful if the restaurant guide on the TV was kept up to date with which evenings any restaurant was to be closed. Twice we decided on a restaurant for dinner only to find it was closed. Niggles out of the way- the food at all the restaurants was first class. Particular mention to Butchs', whose steaks were great and Schooner, whose seafood dishes were really good too. The sushi bar was also really excellent- could this be open at lunch too? For breakfast we used the Indian restaurant, which served a full breakfast range, but was so much more relaxed than the main breakfast option. All the staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make you feel special. Shout out to Pierre for both his cocktails and his magic tricks at the bar and a special shout to Sherwin, who really made our holiday. Free use of the glass bottomed boat from Bridgetown was a great plus. Even though the property was not extensive, you never felt cramped and there was always availability of loungers. We used the pool by the Portobello Italian restaurant, which was quieter and suited us perfectly. Drinks were served swiftly and with a smile and they would mix anything for you. Entertainment was really good across the week. All in all, we had a superb fortnight at Sandals, Barbados and would strongly recommend it to anyone wanting a high quality relaxing break.
"Honest review from returning guests"
This is our 3rd visit to this hotel (first time in 09/13 it was Couples Barbados) and I must say this place is fantastic. Transfer from the airport was seamless after 8+ hour flight from London, a cold towel and glass of champagne are offered to you as step out of the minibus. Check in is swift and we were in our room with luggage there ahead of us inside 20 minutes, the front desk staff are superb and very professional. The big issue with this resort at present.....the dreaded construction of the new Sandals Royal Barbados......yes there is noise, yes it will bother you if you let it BUT it is not to a level that would ruin your holiday, we're in room 2101, King James House, literally right next door to the new hotel, I can honestly say it doesn't bother us in the slightest, by the time the work starts we're already awake and ready for the day ahead, gym done, showered, sunscreen on and heading for breakfast and the beach. The beach.....in 2015 this beach was covered in seaweed as was vast parts of the Caribbean, however, now it is as good as it was the first time we stayed here in 09/13. The waitresses are on the money with your drinks, the sea is not as rough as it used to be since the groynes were constructed, they break the incoming waves and make it just a bit less choppy for bathing in. The sea is beautiful here, very refreshing to wade into to cool off when the sun becomes to much to bear. Dining. All the dining options at this hotel are superb with Butch's Chophouse, for me, being the pick of the bunch. We dined in Butch's on Tuesday night and the food was exceptional, Rachael & Curtly are very good at their jobs and very friendly and welcoming, they make you feel like you're the most important people in the world. My only issue with Butch's is the dress code, it's stipulated as Resort Evening, but in my opinion it isn't enforced as well as it could be. This is however only a small thing and doesn't detract from the fabulous dining experience. Bayside Again every bit as good as the last visit to this resort, the French onion soup is superb and the Chateaubriand is really a wonderful dish, my meat was so tender and the pommes william were also superb. Soy This is a must for Sushi lovers, I only got into Sushi after visiting Sandals Grande Antigua and this resort is every bit as good with better surroundings if I'm honest. The chicken spring rolls and crispy Philly dishes are delicious. The bar staff are top class, there are to many to mention individually but each and every one of them are great. The girls who work in the come back soon office are fantastic, we went on the Bajan Bus Crawl with them and what a day we had, it was a mobile party from start to finish, plenty of beer and rum punch and lots of singing and dancing...a truly marvellous outing. The hotel is very well presented and the difference between when it was Couples and now Sandals is like night and day, we were staggered by the renovations in 2015 and it's still enough to make you stop and look around 2 years later, from the front gate and lobby right through to the beach the hotel is first class, incredibly clean and tidy and all the staff (I think this is a Bajan trait and the reason why we come back) are very friendly and helpful......I know they're being paid to be so but you can tell when someone is genuine and when someone doing it because they have to. We're 4 nights into a 10 night stay and we're delighted we chose this resort again. Lastly I must give a big mention to Sandals for the effort they have put into reunion week, the activities they've laid on and the entertainment has been fantastic so thank you for that. I'll be writing another review after our stay and if the next 6 nights go as well as the first 4 it will be more of the same.
It's our last night here and I'm truly sad this vacation is ending!! From start to finish, this place has been top-notch! We arrived during Reunion Week. This being our first time at a Sandals, I was surprised to learn that they were hosting such an event. However, it didn't take long for me to understand why people keep coming back to the Sandals family of properties. One couple has stayed over 600 nights!!! The Property - This place is great, it has everything you'd expect from an ocean resort; pools, beach, multiple restaurants, bars, quiet areas to sit, fitness center and more. The property is not huge, but well laid out. You can get across the property easily. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept. The Food and Drinks - All our meals were fantastic!! Everything, from the Indian cuisine at Bombay, the breakfast and lunch buffets, Italian at Portofinos, pizza/salad at Dino's/The Mariner on the beach, or steaks at Butch's, was fantastic. The drink options are plentiful, both at the bars and in-room. The People - This is where Sandals shines bright. Our room was comfortable, the in-room bar well stocked because of the great housekeeping staff, including Sharon, Tamisha, Lorna and Andrea. Asha was very welcoming and got us settled in. Bartenders - Rodney (at the pool) and Pierre (at the Merry Monkey) were great and served up excellent cocktails. Sherice (at the lobby bar) was very friendly and easy to chat with. We found ourselves choosing that bar just to go back and enjoy her company. Of special note - We were here to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The staff at Butch's made it extra special. The food was fantastic, the chocolate cake they presented him with was so very tasty, and they decorated the table for the occasion. Special thanks to Katrina, Rashawn, Curtley, and Semone! Also, to the staff who decorated our room door with a Happy Birthday message and balloons, that was a nice touch. Thanks Sandals!!! We'll definitely be repeat guests!!! You folks really know how to make your guests feel like family!!
"First time in Barbados"
The drive from the airport was about 25 minutes. Check in was easy. We did it through Ipads. Then had a short tour of the property. Then they showed us to our room. They said our luggage would be brought to our room. They lost our luggage, it took three hours to finally get our bags to our room. We had a Grand Lux room. It was nice, but a little small. There was no liquor in our room or beer in the fridge. First resort that we've been to that didn't have either. We ate at the Merry Monkey Pub. Food was very good. Crystal was our waitress. Very friendly and she has a beautiful singing voice. We spent our days at the beach. It was great. The sand is fine and feels like silk. The water is wavy but not that cold. Our waitress was Dennisia. She is an angel. She made our stay that much better. Her service and love for her job show in everything she does. Her friendship is something we will always share. They have amazing staff. Rohan from entertainment was terrific, very outgoing and we enjoyed lots of good times with him. Hidie and Nikeda were two waitresses that gave great service and were very good to us. Our travel agent arranged a special supper for us - there were 6 couples. They held it at the Yoga hut and they had a very pretty set up. The appetizers and the supper was great. Nikeda and another waitress - sorry I did not get your name - they did a great job. The following night they had a returning guest supper. It was very nice. The meal was lamb and it was very good. They had a band called The Band Vertigo - I believe that was their name. It was three ladies and they had phenominal voices. I wish they would have had them singing after the supper instead of during supper. Overall the evening was great. We booked two a la carte's while we were there. The Kimino was good. We sat at the grill and we met a group from the States. Very fun group. We booked at Butch's - Steakhouse. It was fantastic. the filet mignon was very tasty. We went to the italian restaurant, which didn't need reservations. It was very good, but a little slow between courses. Angela from Loyalty was exceptional. Very friendly and a great smile. Dwayne and Akeen at the bar by the Bayside Restaurant were terrific. They were very friendly and we had a great time with them. We did the snorkelling through Sandals. We went to three ship wreaks and then swam with the turtles. It was amazing. The only problem was there were so many other groups there at the same time. We took an island tour with Captain Larry, he was selling them from the beach. Our driver was Mark Lynch and he was fantastic. You have a beautiful island. We had a great day. Very glad that we did it. There is construction going on as they are adding a Royal Sandals next door. It will be Club suites and Butler suites. It is suppose to be open by November or December of this year. Lots of people are complaining about it but it didn't bother us at all. Overall our experience was great. The people are so friendly and very helpful. It was first visit to Barbados but it won't be our last. Loved it.
