Barbados is the fifth Sandals we have stayed at and this is our favorite. The construction is annoying. I will say it's very strange as well. This property has a phenomenal beach and the water is incredible, yet, people will get up at five am to reserve seats by the pool. Don't understand that at all, but great if you enjoy the beach, so sleep in. The snorkeling guys will do their best to try to get you to the turtles. Give them a try first. Sandals management should know that Jim Beam and Jack Daniels are not top shelf liquors. All the restaurants were amazing. Shout outs to bartenders Shane and Cameron. Special thanks to Damian who runs Bayside. Management should recognize they have someone special in you. All the beach waitresses were so good. We can't wait to come back in two years to see all the new restaurants, pools and rooms.
"Good not great. The construction!"
The check in process was a bit cumbersome and the person who took us to our room didn't know where it was. The resort is clean, the food good not great except for Butches and the staff with the exception of the main desk were helpful and friendly. Our room was near the construction east side by beach- oh boy. 8 am to 6 pm every single day. If you want a mid day nap in the room. Good luck. See photos below. Add in the sound of hammers, saws and men talking loudly and you have it. Yep that's how close we were to it. So if the resort says they don't book rooms close to the construction...🤥
Went to Sandals Barbados late January beautiful resort and will be great when extension to resort is finished We have been to several Sandals resorts and this is one of their best but we gave 4 star due to quality of food, the resort, rooms etc 5 star Staff very welcoming Would recommend swim up room worth every penny Food needs to be quality over quantity too bigger portions of not the best quality food Restaurants: Breakfast: all good but we preferred Bombay self-service and air-conditioned and very quiet Lunch: not enough options. They are all hit and miss some day’s good service and food then others not so good, shame really need another restaurant open at lunch, when we first went to Sandals Antigua they used to have pub open much better idea Dinner: tried all options best was Portofino’s shame it did not have anti-pasti bar like at Antigua (they should put the Italian where the French restaurant is so they can use the buffet area especially when Portofino’s was always busy and Bay-side not so busy, but not the best French restaurant we have been to for a Sandals). Schooners not a very good meal long waiting times and not very well cooked food disappointed. Bombay very nicely done but not the Indian food you get at home but bland. Merry Monkey best potato skins!! Rest of meal not to bad bit salty but service very good. Kimonos very good also Butch’s very good to bigger portions easily share a starter! (and first time we have seen Sandals keeping to dress code). And last of all Café de Paris absolutely gorgeous from milk shakes to pancakes very good! The grounds are lovely and well kept, new building work (did not bother us) looks very interesting shame Sandals have not bothered to put a miniature version of the resort to show what it will look like when done or at least a map! Staff very good especially Brenton in Club and Claire in Butch’s evening’s/Portofino’s mornings, and then Corrie in front area so nice and a good dancer! Did not get chance to meet manager which was a shame. Last of all Sandals Select staff did not like the way we were treated due to not wanting to attend the returning guests party, this is not for us and was told basically if you don’t go you don’t get your returning gifts which we felt was rather unfairïŠ but did not ruin a very nice and relaxing holiday will go back.
"All Inclusive Resort"
Newly, within the last 2 years, Sandals. As such I don't believe they are quite up to snuff as far as Sandals go. That being said I'll start with the good Grounds are very nice The working people (cleaning, bar, restaurant) very nice . Water sports are available and good. Restaurant service and food is very good. Pools are abundant and nice, not over crowded. Extras like special coffees and pastry are very good. Now the bad Club Sandals is worthless, staffed by people who don't know or care about anything. Entertainment is very lacking, one show and not much else. No schedule available or followed. Butler service is available but not worth it. Chair saving at the pool and beach is just crazy. They must start at 5 am. Reservations for restaurant should be available on the app. Tours are not up to date on app. Like I said this Sandals needs work to get up to par.
Just returned from a wonderful vacation at Sandals Barbados. Like many, we did some research and were mildly concerned about the construction. It was not an issue at all. Coming from Ontario, Canada, frankly, the sounds of light construction reminded me of a summer weekend when we are hanging out by our pool in the backyard and a neighbour is doing some work in their yard. When we did hear it - it just made me think it was summer. The ONLY reason I give this 4 out of 5 stars is due to the size. We have previously stayed at Sandals Ochos Rios, Whitehouse (now Southcoast), St Lucia (Regency) and this is our 4th. We loved Whitehouse due to it's sprawling size. This resort is beautiful but definitely compact. Even with the new addition, we think it will be bigger, but still somewhat congested, whereas Whitehouse just has a more open, spacious feel. That being said, this is hands down the best food we have ever had at a Sandals or any other All inclusive. Our AI vacations have been to Jamaica, St Lucia, Cabos, Domician, Cuba and Aruba - without a doubt - the restaurants at Sandals Barbados are akin to dining in a restaurant in Oakville/Toronto (for you Ontarioans). The quality of food and the mindfulness of the servers were all top notch. We dined at Butch's (you could be at a Keg for choices and quality of steak), twice at Bombay (truly fantastic Indian food) and twice at Schooner's (great seafood and great location -open air right by the ocean). Soy (sushi) was also nice and again - superb quality. As always, order anything you want, mix and match from the menu, throw a lobster tail on wherever you want! And the lobster tails are moist, large and flavourful. Really cannot say enough on the subject of the restaurants. The beach was also a big hit for us. I have read where some were upset about the waves - but again, from reading the reviews ahead of time - we knew what to expect. we actually stayed at the resort at the same time that some of the other reviewers have posted and I think there might be some misunderstanding about the red flag/yellow flag issue. As mentioned, the resort is definitely smaller than others, so the beach is as well. However, it is sandy, soft and the water is the beautiful aqua/blue that we crave here in Canada. The resort to the right of the Sandals (when facing the water) has no breakwall (Sandals built one a few years back it seems). Having no breakwall, the waves are much bigger where they come crashing into the shore - so red flag was every day. However......50 feet to the left is the Sandals frontage where it was yellow every day of our week (Feb 12th - 19th) - due to, I believe, the breakwall taking the brunt of the big waves. That being said - the "red flagged" beach still had small children (and a lot of Sandals guests) swimming and playing in front o fthat section as we loved the big waves. I personally would much rather play in waves (like Lake Huron out by Grand Bend after a big storm) than a smooth, calm surface...but again, that is preference. Also - the waves make it perfect for hobie cat (small catamaran), wind surfing, etc. Everyday of our stay people (us included) were out there sailing - the waves and wind were perfect for that. We are beach people and we loved that we could lay on the lounges ( no issues getting 2 everyday, all day - with many empty ones to spare), hear the music from the pool and be walking distance to the ocean or the bar. Also - bar service on the beach - FANTASTIC. They provide you with flags (blue flags on a wooden dowel) to stick in the stand to signal you would like bar service. A smartly dress (carribean casual) serve comes over to take your order and brings it promptly back to you. They also periodically roam the beach with fruit skewers and fruit juices/water. There did seem to be lounge competitions at the pool - but again, we wanted to be at the beach so did not affect us one bit. Lunch options were great as well - buffet is incredibly varied at the grill options or pizza at Mariner's / Dino's were really good. We would have a late lunch by getting 2 pizzas (in take out boxes) and drinks and sit at the beach - so relaxing. We stayed in the Crystal Lagoon Club Level room - Bajan House - very nicely appointed. I am not a "bath person", but I can say, I brought some aloe bath beads and bubble bath to use in the tranquility soaking tub on the balcony and it was fantastic! After a day of sunning at the ocean, we would come back, I would fill the tub with the beads and bubbles, set up the little table with a book, some chocolate chip cookies from the café and a drink - and sooth my sun tanned skinned for a half hour or so. With some help from hubby, I could get in the tub (we were on the 4th floor) and then have him open the curtains so I could literally have an outdoor soak, and watch the world go by with presumably (who knows or cares??) no one seeing me in the tub! It was very decadent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful as well - particularly LOVED the manager of the Indian restaurant, but unfortunately cannot remember his name. He is an absolute charm and should be a big point of pride for the resort that they hired him. 4 days we walked in to the Gap (go to the resort gates and turn left). Just for some exercise and we stopped for a drink and even lunch one day for a change of scenery - again - friendly people, great quality of food and never an issue with safety. Great infrastructure for walking around as a tourist (sidewalks, crosswalks) - somewhat different than doing the same thing is say, Jamaica. (though we love Jamaica as well). For 1 US dollar (conversion is Barados dollars to US - 2:1) each, we could grab the #11 "bus" (van) anytime we were walking through the Gap. They go by every 10 minutes or so and someone just yells out the window (Bridgetown) . Just throw up your arm, they will stop and take you into town if you wanted to do some "cruise ship/port style shopping. Final words - great vacation getaway. As always, Sandals price is high, but you do get what you pay for. In this case, friendly service, beautiful (but compact) resort, fantastic food/beverage choices/quality and overall a relaxing, self indulgent style of vacation. The club level rooms are stocked daily with red and white wine, champagne, Banks beer, fruit juices. bar mix, water and full size bottles of: rum, gin, vodka, and whiskey or scotch. I read that some people were missing robes in their room - my guess is that is also Club Level as we had them too. bathrooms were very large, tub and shower - and full spa quality toiletries. Would definitely recommend Sandals as a whole and also Sandals Barbados.
