Over Plaza Hotel

"Don't stay here!!! Worst hotel on my 3 months trip."
I stayed in room 254 for two nights. The stay almost ruined my whole experience of Cuba. This is not a 4 star hotel!! Cockroaches and I suppose also other bugs eating the old rotten door frames into the bathroom. I could hear them all night. Really bad smell. Mold in the bathroom and an old bad bed with bedsheets not changed. No water at all when I arrived in my room. The safe did not work and the staff did not manage to repair it or replace it. OK breakfast and very nice door boys. I moved to a Casa Particular after two days, and it was as coming to another world. I will never come back to this hotel, and I will tell my travel agency to change hotel for their customers in the future.
At first it seemed under avarage but at the end of our stay after three nights it was a nightmare. Because we were at a tour, we couldn't change our hotel. Elevator was always out of duty and the only way to the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was the emergenct stairways which some part ot it was outside the building. During our stay the breakfast and dinner menu did not changed .As a politics of the Cuba the hotels officers were also government officers and service was incredible bad. The most expensive toilet fee I've ever seen was at Cuba. It was 1CUC which is equal to 1 €
When traveling in Cuba it's important to not expect world standards and great luxury. Knowing this we booked at the Plaza where we had stayed two years ago. Even then it was shabby and glued together, but the staff were very warm and friendly and the place echoed a majesty of the past. In the two years since our last stay the rates went up dramatically. Unperturbed, we decided to book anyway, hoping that the additional amount contributed to improvements. We were bitterly disappointed and rather sad to see the state of things upon arrival. It became clear early on that they are hopelessly understaffed and there is no one clearly managing the place. The staff appear strained and overburdened. All areas are separately managed. So, for example, when you want laundry done you must run around your floor and find the chamber maid and engage in a personal negotiation with her. We had 4 different rooms as we moved due to problems which included non functioning toilets, aircons, doors, and leaking walls and ceilings when it rained. The aircon is not working in the lobby and the bathrooms here are rather foul. The repair work you see is ad hoc and clumsy. The towels are grey and stained, and the water situation is patchy. The cleaning was not great at all, and understandable when we saw how few chamber maids were required to cover each floor. The breakfast was acceptable, but again one could sense the fatigue of the staff. Two years ago there was definitely a buoyancy which is missing. Again, we felt that people were probably overburdened. It's a sad state of affairs as this is a real gem which could shine again so easily with a good scrub, staff increase and a good repair team.
"Hotel plaza Havana Cuba"
While old you can tell this was once a great hotel. Our accommodations were fine we had no problems with the staff who is most accommodating. The hotel was clean and the air-conditioner in the room kept the room perfectly comfortable. There is no air conditioning in the lobby but most people spend minimal time in the lobby. As far as pointing out restaurants and things to see the staff was fully knowledgeable
"Not really the standard of hotel one can expect"
The rooms were total disaster. I had a room in the second floor, with although the room was had old furniture, it was quite ok. But then I had a room on the 3rd floor, where a had an invasion of huge cockroaches. They even got into my bags. I asked the reception to change the room, and they gave me another one same at 3rf floor, where the toilet did not work.. I had to go down to the reception every time I needed to use the bathroom.
