"Great relaxing trip"
Stayed Oct 29-Nov 5.We booked Junior Suite Oceanview Concierge. Worth the extra money. Our concierge Liz was amazing! She took care of all our needs and was a pleasure to talk to. Room was large and always kept clean. Only complaint was the water pressure was terrible. had showers at different times but still not good. Still damage from the hurricane but was being worked on. Food: Only 2 rest open when we were there but 1 more was opening when we left. Food was fine with lots to chose from. I have the same complaint as many others and that is the buffet food is at best "luke warm". Not sure why they can't keep it hot? There is an outside grill on the way to the beach with hot food that is quite good. One server named Raul was amazing! Hardest and fastest server I've seen yet. Management take note of this guy, he is by far your best worker! Pool: Pool was large and clean with pool bar ( no swim up). Staff was friendly and drinks were fine. Beach: The beach is awesome! Beautiful white sand beach that stretches for miles. All in all a great trip. I will return someday and would recommend this resort. Thank you Staff and management for a wonderful Cuban holiday!
"Great hotel and staff, but."
First visit to Varadero, due to the damage done by hurricane Irma to our usual stay in Melia Cayo Coco. Melia Las Antillas is very dated, but it is also a very clean hotel thanks to its friendly and hard working staff. The buffet is repetitive and the food lacks flavour, but you won't starve, there is always something to eat. Have a good breakfast, and snack on something at the beach grill for lunch. The buffet area is clean and the staff is tentative. The beach is beautiful but I only have one gripe which is not the hotels fault but I think they should not allow it. Some tourists on the beach take two chairs they use one to lie down on and the other one is stood up and it is used for shade. The problem with that is shortage of chairs, and they block the view of the beach. We stayed on the 5th floor concierge suite and the view from our room was nice. Thanks to all the staff that made our stay a pleasant one. Shout out to Thomas, Alain, and Diana, also our great concierge Elizabeth and Mayleen and the rest of the wonderfull staff.
"No vegan options, but made do"
We just got back November 4 2017 We only fly with sun wing, flights are always on time if not earlier plus great service. Lots of perks when u fly with sunwing! Nothing for vegans , had only carrots with cheese, or string beans with butter, also boiled potatoes with loads of butter. I made my self a sub but there was only cucumber onions black olives and pickles. Dinner was pasta with beans deserts were good. Everything was warm to cold, but I used the grill to reheat my potatoes which worked great! The French frys were kept In This dome thing that made them wet and soggy, may be they well change that once the manager sees these post complaining about th food? Which they have not yet! But keep saying they will. There bread is always good. Top notch waitresses and staff. We were on the top floor very far room away from the elevator so quiet with a beautiful balcony and an amazing view.from our bed you could see the ocean! The conseiers were amazing I just loves those ladies! Liz and I for get the othe dark hair lady but wounderffull ppl. We will return ! but please consider improvements in the buffet
"Good value for your money"
We just got back from this resort today and it was everything we wanted from our holiday: sun, beach, cervezas and palm trees. Before we booked we were concerned about Irma's effects on Varadero. While there was evidence of the hurricane's damage on a few outdoor structures, there was nothing that would cause concern or interrupt your vacation. Two of the three restaurants are up and running, with only one more to go. The main buffet, of course, is fine and the food selection is okay. During lunch and dinner a BBQ is offered on the patio and it was quite delicious. You can't argue with the value of this hotel; and we were happy to go to Cuba, support their people and tip frequently as a small token toward their recovery. All of the staff were helpful and friendly and we were pleased with our decision to stay here.
"Paradise with few darksides"
We stayed in Melia Las Antillas in May for 10 days and we really enjoyed every day. The hotel grounds are very nice, we loved the walks to the beach through the beautiful garden. Also the view from our room was gorgeous. There is some space for improvement, but it is Cuba, you have to count on it. The beach + The beach is just perfect, white sand, absolutely clear water, that is all you need. + It is very long, so it is great for morning jogging and evening walks. + A very nice beach bar is in the shady place right next to the beach. - The only downside is, that you must be at the beach before 7 a.m., if you want to get chairs in the first row. The room + We had a room in one of the bungalows in the garden and it was perfect. We were close the pool and close to the main building as well. There was a modern furniture, minibar, A/C and safe and the room was big enough. - Bathroom is clean, but it is really dated. Restaurants and bars There is a good variety of food for everybody, sometimes great, sometimes just ok. If you consider you are on Cuba, you will be satisfied. + We loved breakfast the most – fresh juices and smoothies, eggs, omelletes, fruits and you can bring a good coffee from the lobby bar (the coffee in the restaurant is not so good). We tried all the a la cartes and we found el Romantico the best – you can have a great lobster here. – You will get only one fork and knive for the whole dinner, even in a la cartes, which is a little unconfortable - Drinks are served in very small glasess everywhere in the hotel, so you need to stand very often in the queue to get a drink. We recommend to bring your own bigger cups – a lot of people do it and than it is fine :-) - There is usually a life music in a la cartes, but around 9:00 p.m. it is over, which is a pity. So, come early, if you want music. Entertainment There was a show every evening, but it was very repetitive. We loved the aqua show, which was great. You can also enjoy music performances on the terrace – one of the singers was absolutely unforgateble! All together we had a great holiday in the hotel and we would probably stay here again, if we were in Cuba.
