Over Villa Cuba

"Hoped for more."

Nice hotel. But we hoped for more, especially from the buffé. It was hard to find good food. We recommend that you make reservations at the two restaurants that they have. They have better food. Some people get really good service. And some don't. We get bad service. Our first room wasn't clean when we get it. And two days with out any cleaning. We changed room and get a much nicer room and the lady clean it very good. So it can be big difference between the room and the service from the staff. We also get insects in our sallat and a tiny wooden stick in the beef meat down at the beach bar. The pool was good, it's things to do at the hotell. Nice beach. Nearly to Varadero, and they have good restaurants and and bars. But the hotel is nice. Just hope that you'll experience good service.

"Pleasantly surprised!"

I've stayed at a few "budget" resorts in Varadero and this one was probably one of the best. I stayed in the main building (not a villa) and the room was updated, beds were comfortable, pillows were stuffed, large balcony (I was on the side facing the road so it was quiet and had beautiful sunrises), always had hot water and good water pressure, and the A/C worked well. The beach location was fantastic (very clean, plenty of chairs and huts). There was a restaurant and beach bar within a 30 second walk from the beach which was very convenient. The pool bar and lobby bar were great and of course the coffee bar was fantastic. The staff was brilliant at every turn, especially the front desk staff. Very courteous, pleasant and helpful. I chose the regular check-out time of 12 but was able to store my luggage in a locked room and they even have a designated room that you are able to have a shower before you leave at no cost (my pick-up time wasn't until 6pm). You can access the wi-fi internet for 2 pesos for an hour but be patient; it doesn't always work! You're not there to play on your phone anyway, go to enjoy the vacation! Of course the buffet was a general flop (you don't go to Cuba for the food) but the Bamboo a la carte was nice (choose this twice instead of the International a la carte). I would highly recommend this resort as a budget choice.

"Meet my expectation"

   26-03-2017
We spent one week in this resorts on March. Overall it meets my expectation. Before we arrived, I read review about this resorts. Most the reviews are reasonable based on my experience. The resort is very good except for the room. we lived in main building 26** room. The room is old and similar to some motel in USA and Canada, really cannot be named as 4 stars. Some people say the main building rooms were renovated recently, maybe they live in phase one (room number staring with 1). For my room, I really cannot say it is new renovated. And we found there are some small ants in the room, but they are not big trouble. In addition, my father feel it is noisy outside caused by central air condition machine. Besides the room, others are very good. The food are little salty but acceptable. Cannot compete the food in Mexico, but that is for Cuba food, not for this resort. The beach is beautiful and shallow, you can walk into ocean for tens meter and the water is still in your waist level. We got some fly sting and there are some inflame in skin, but that is normal besides ocean I think. Overall, considering Cuba's situation, this resorts is not bad and meet my expectation.

"Family Vacation"

We had such a great time in Cuba. It was my second time there and my husband and baby's first time. My husband has always wanted to visit Cuba and I surprised him with this trip for his birthday. We both can't wait to go back again. This is my first time staying in Varadero, it's a very lively and friendly city, lots to do and see. The hotel is located pretty close to downtown Varadero. My husband and I are always up for a little adventure, so we took the local bus. It only costs $5 CUC per person, it's a hop on and hop off bus. Our stay at the hotel was amazing! Staff there are just over the top helpful and friendly. The only down fall about the hotel is it's a little run down and the beds/pillows are very uncomfortable. And some of the front office staff are not as nice as other staff in the hotel. There were always entertainment around the pool area, which was a lot of fun. We got to see local musicans play some really fun music, synchronized swimming performance, games and more. We also had the chance to visit Havana, such a vibrant city. If you ever pass by a place called Manantial de Agua Viva which sells AMAZING! home made pizza, you have to try it!!! Over all the drinks, food and amenities are great. Distance from the hotel to the beach is a very nice walk. We would definitely book this hotel again, we're even thinking of booking a Villa for next time. What more can I say, Nos enchant CUBA!

"You get what you pay for"

A friend and I stayed here for a week at the beginning of March. Our room was a good size, kept clean daily and the fixtures had been updated but the overall condition was extremely worn. Beds were comfortable, balcony was great and our maid was very accommodating, always made sure we had two large bottles of water every day. We were on the 2nd floor so the stairs weren't a huge issue, but higher floors would have had to use the elevators which were a little sketchy. You'll get plenty of exercise on the hotel stairs as everything is on different levels, pool and grounds on 1, rooms and restaurants on 2, rooms and lobby bar on 3, rooms, lobby and shops on 4 and rooms above 4. We never went in the pool once but were on the beautiful beach every day, lots of palapas and beds but you had to be early to get prime spots. For the most part this hotel was pretty quiet. During the day of course the pool activities were busy and during the nightly shows it was nosy, but they didn't last too long. On our last night the disco must have been up and running and it was extremely nosy from about 11:00 until 4:00 a.m., booming and thundering through our room for sure and probably the whole hotel because of the open layout. The location was great, it was walkable to town (along the beach) Bars were good, buffet restaurant got pretty tiresome by the end of the week (although there were good things, bread, ice cream), snack bar at the pool served the best hot dogs (never thought I'd be looking forward to eating something like that in Cuba!) We never did get into either of the two other restaurants, you had to be at the second floor balcony at 1:30 p.m. in order to make reservations and we didn't manage to make it there until two days before we left, at which time the reservations were all taken. Overall, I wouldn't go back to this hotel mainly because of the food. We talked to people from other hotels who said they had good food so I don't think you can chalk it up to being in Cuba. This hotel just didn't measure up in that department.
