Over Villa Cuba

"Be live experience great Hotel"

   20-01-2017
Just came back from be live Varadero and have to say this was a great trip, Hotel was clean, always found something good to eat as they change it up, Beach is beautiful, the staff are amazing would definitely go back. Entertainment was so so but it's only five pesos to get to the downtown( note the cab drivers only know the name of this hotel by the old name which is Villa Cuba original name of hotel) they have a disco on site open Monday Wednesdays and Fridays and it rocks. Would like to add if you want peace and quiet before 12:30 at night do not get a room overlooking the pool area myself I didn't mind.

"Fantastic Holiday"

This was my first trip to Cuba, a group, myself and 6 friends. I was in a villa close to the beach, while my friends were in the hotel, would have been nice to have all been in the villa or all in the hotel, but not a big deal. The hotel rooms are nice, well appointed and fairly spacious with a bright decor. Villa rooms are smaller, rooms are on the shabby side with old furnishings, but there was a nice common living room area surrounded by windows and overlooking beach and hotel grounds. Hotel and rooms are clean. Fridges are provided in all rooms. Daily, staff provide 1.5 l bottle of water per person, though hotel water is safe to drink. Air conditioning in hotel is good, whereas in the villa it was an older type unit which didn't do as good a job. The room phones we found, did not all work, some could phone out, but could not receive calls, a little frustrating when organizing a rendezvous. As previously reported, the rooms did have tiny ants, but they weren't such a nuisance. The hotel also has 'resident' cats, dogs, and chickens roaming the grounds which I and most other guests found charming, but they don't make a nuisance of themselves, they keep their distance unless invited for a pat. The wifi needs an upgrade, it is available in the lobby and pool bar area for a cost of 2 CUC's for 1 hour. After logging in with a provided user name and password it frequently crashes, and the login process has to start again, and if you manage to stay logged in, it is painfully slow. The buffet food was very nice and well presented. Only negative would be to ensure hot food is served hot. Waiters and waitresses as indeed all staff in hotel are hard working and eager to please. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and will return on my next trip to Cuba.

"For the money it was great"

I hate reading some reviews and realizing people just dont know what to expect in Cuba. Bugs yes, they are hot year round, older building yes, they were all built years ago, crappy plumbing yes, they are a country that is almost a third world country. They do not have access to what we have in North America. Anyays heres my review. Got switched from Starfish Varadero (hotel Agula Azules) to Be Live. Been here before and love it :) Never stayed in a bungalow so cannot attest to their condition. We always stayed in the hotel, Clean rooms with out dated furnishings / paint / plumbing but nothing worthe making note of. Always had a nice balcony . Staff was always polite and nice, smiles all around. Front desk went above and beyond helping us switch from two double beds to a king bed. Pool bar staff was the greatest and entertainment nightly was nice. You dont come to Cuba for the food but you wont starve, buffet was a buffet but always fresh bread and a made to order pasta station. Restaurant near beach was great , we tried the Creaole chicken :). Yes Buffet got repetitive but like I said you dont come for the food The beach is what you come for and this is a wonderful beach, CLear water you can see the fish swimming around your feet. Paddle boats, kayaks etc... for use for free. Music and always something going on. Never had to struggle to find a beach chair. TIPS : Bring your own towels, makes it easy to find your beach chairs, also bring a large cub (bubba) for your drinks as the bar only serves the drinks in little cups. Dont expect to walk into a beautiful new resort , with all the amenties of north america, and five star dining be prepared to have a simple clean room to sleep in, wonderful staff and a beautiful beach. This is now or go to resort for when we visit cuba

"Worst vacation ever!!"

   09-01-2017
This was the worst resort ever!! Checked in after a 5 hr flight delay arrived at 3am by 4 am my wife was crushing cockroaches in the washroom. Went to the front desk in the morning and they treated me like I was putting them out by asking for a new room, they told me they would spray for cockroaches, I asked for a new room and they finally gave me one after I asked to speak to the manager. The next room started out nice until my wife noticed the hot water didn't work, after 4 trips to the front desk and them lying about sending a maintenance guy I finally got him there to check it out. He left the window open while we were out and let an infestation of ants into our room. The front desk lady actually wanted my wife to shower in another room which was about 3 buildings over. I got us switched to a third room after arguing with the front desk for a room in the hotel tower to which they didn't want to give up because it cost more money, the front desk lady took me to a room which had been closed off for which seemed like months. I turned the air on and the mould smell started to fill the room to the point where my wife couldn't breathe. The front desk finally chose to get rid of me by sending us to their sister hotel next door which was great. The staff at be live was horrible and angry all of the time except for Pavel the bellman which was great to us. The smell of cat pee which combined with the smell of mould made me sick. The food was horrible and there was little to no entertainment. The beach was beautiful to stay at as long as you didn't have to speak to the lifeguard who was pushing his fake cigars or the waiters trying to sell you unauthorized trips to Havana. All in all, don't stay here unless you are looking to take home a stray cat, a stomach ailment, or a bad back from the mattresses. This place is a dump! Stay far far away if you want to enjoy your vacation. It sure wrecked our honeymoon.

"Save your money."

To be honest. As bad as this resort was, so was Veradero. All the excursions were just as awful as the resort. Be smart - go to Cayo Coco So this resort is old and outdated. We had a private pool at our villa and even thought we seen them cleaning it, it always had a layer of bugs and scum on the top. Most of the staff didn't care. Front reception could care less that you were there and required assistance. They would help you, but made it seem like it was the biggest inconvenience. The bars were all terrible. The staff at the pool bar was awesome, but their drinks were always poorly made. You let them know and ways to improve it do it was enjoyable for yourself and they just made it the same way. I know cuban food is not good. But the food here was atrocious. Inwas hungry for 2 weeks. They staff again didn't seem to care. One thing I really hated was everyone working there trying tp sell you cigars or coffee or wanting to buy anything you had like your swimsuit or your bubba mug. In the end, I can rant on for ever about why you shouldn't waste. Your money here, but overall this resort sucked. 2 weeks and we just wanted to leave. Spend the extra money and go 5 star. Preferably outside of Veradero of you want good excursions. Check out Melia resorts.
