"THE best service in the Caribbean"

   20-04-2018
We have visited 15 different islands in the Caribbean and stayed at some top hotels (i.e., Sandy Lane in Barbados). Spice Island has THE best service in the Caribbean...by far! The staff, from the guy who sweeps the walkways to the front desk to the restaurant, are uniformly excellent. The Seagrape rooms open right on to the beach which is wonderful. The food is OK. it's not bad at all, but it's not true gourmet either. Believe me though, you won't starve. One has to remember that the beaches in Grenada are public, so there is no exclusive beach. However, the locals are very nice and generally respect the privacy of the hotel guests. Rooms are very nice. TV/cable could be modernized, but who goes to the Caribbean for TV? The spa is the only weak point. The messages we had were perfectly fine, but the facility is not that good at all. Bottom line: Very low key resort (no celebs or anything). Out-of-control excellent service. Good food. Great beach. Very nice rooms. A definite "go to this place".

"The meaning of SPICE beach resort"

   11-04-2018
Returned end of February to cold and snowy Scotland after having spent 10 night at this amazing hotel being our 4th time. S. stands for superlative P Perfect I. Idyllic C. Carribean E. Escape - what Spice Island Beach Resort is. Flawless. Meticulous high standards maintained throughout. From the beach attendants with the laying out of the mattresses on the loungers at the start of the day, to the staff walking past to see if you wished a drink from the bar and offering a nice chilled facecloth you are looked after terrifically. The waiting staff at mealtimes were superb, never encountered any staff not offering a smile with a warm greeting. The food is excellent, and anything you might like which is not on the menu will be accommodated if requested the day before. If you decide to have dinner in your suite it arrives beautifully presented by again smiling courteous staff. Fabian the food and beverages manager is amazing and will go out of his way to ensure you have a wonderful holiday. He is a great role model for the staff in the restaurants to copy. I must mention the lovely trainees at meal time, charming to the guests. Well done. Your holiday starts immediately when you check in. Very swift with a welcoming wet flannel after a long flight and a welcoming cocktail carried behind you on a tray to your Suite. The dining room at night is beautifully laid out and the staff serving are immaculate in their uniforms. This gives you a very feel good factor. It is a very elegant hotel but not at all pretentious. Sir Royston always says “If we have met your expectations we have failed, We need to exceed them” which they sure do. The fogging that has been mentioned is excellent to keep the mosquitoes at bay, and only lasts a very short time which is not a hardship it ensures we are not bothered by nasty bites to complain about. Certainly not worth finding fault with. Too many staff to mention, however they are all a credit to SPICE. As I type this I can picture the beautiful view from our Seagrape Suite patio. Thank you all for a great holiday.

"Not so good"

   05-04-2018
Seems to be a review war going on here- we stayed here in March and had many issues. Not the heaven on earth others seem to have experienced. Beware of potential reviews from employees of the establishment or friends.

"They know you by your name"

   03-04-2018
The staff here is so friendly, approachable and courteous. Furthermore, many of them make a point of knowing your name in this holiday spot. Whether you have an ocean suite or a pool suite, the rates are about $2K per day all inclusive. What a location for a wedding! The restaurants are uber-delicious with a variety of Caribbean flavors and new takes on some older dishes. The Sea and Surf Terrace was amazing with its staff. I think four or five different people made sure we were doing fine including the manager. The bar staff also is attentive and makes a great cocktail. They are also willing to try making new drinks. The pool area is quaint; the beach area has little areas under small trees for shade or you can move out onto the beach. The beach is not as wide at this end of Grand Anse; however, the water is just as lovely. The resort's stores have an excellent selection of vacation clothes. The Robert Graham shirt collection had patterns I had not seen yet!

""Don't Do It" review--Brutally Inaccurate..!!!"

   03-04-2018
I myself recently returned from a glorious 7 days at Spice. Readers on Trip Advisor will note that management of this fine establishment do not respond to reviews as some other establishments do. After reading the review below I could not help myself from clarifying facts relative to this persons very twisted statements. BUSY PUBLIC BEACH--Grand Anse is one of the largest and most perfectly clean beaches I have ever seen in all of the Caribbean. And I too, have been on several dozen. Many beaches in the Caribbean are open to their local islanders as they well should be. The Hopkins family- the owners- are local wonderful people. They are at one with their community. Instrumental on this Island. As long as locals and other tourists are not wondering around the property without purpose, management has no reason to bother them. The beach in front of Spice property has to be close to 800-1000 feet long. Maybe longer. Dozens upon dozens of shade trees. Open loungers everywhere. If these guests couldn't find a comfortable private spot away from anyone, they have nobody to blame but themselves. ANTS EVERYWHERE. I never saw any such thing. Not so much as a cigarette butt on this beach. A team of local men are constantly cleaning this beach as do the staff of Spice. If there happened to be a natural hatch of ants that occurred while these people were there I am not sure how the establishment can be held responsible for that. If that was in fact the case, would they have wanted the management of this hotel to do a "spray/fogging" for them? I don't think so-which leads me to another of their complaints. MOSQUITO FOGGING-HAD TO STAY INDOORS. Yes management has made the decision to fog the property twice weekly. Guests are well informed. It occurs around 5-6pm while 95% of their guests have already had a most complete and wonderful day and are in their rooms having a drink and showering/dressing for dinner. Not a big deal. And guess what--no bug issues all day everyday while we were there. Clearly the Hopkins spare no expenses so I am sure the product they have chosen to use is safe for everything involved. Humans/plant life/other insects that are a benefit to such a beautiful lush landscape. The Hopkins are intelligent professional people. On this topic I had no concerns and complete faith in them and their decision to do so. SPOTTY BEACH SERVICE-NO FOOD SERVICE ON THE BEACH. BAD FOOD CHOICES,BAD DINING ATMOSPHERE, NO BLENDERS, NO LIQUOR IN THE DRINKS. WOW, where to begin on this barrage of misleading comments? There is one main large centrally located bar. It is an outstanding perfectly clean bar. Detailed clean meticulously. Every bottle wiped down every morning by hand with a warm damp cloth. I witnessed it. The bar had the best of everything. I had many wonderful blended drinks. I had good beach service. But more importantly I got up and walked to the bar to chat with other guests, the bartenders and to get my cocktails. As for food on the beach- breakfast is open every morning for 2.5 hours......lunch for 2.5 hours.....tea and snacks late in the afternoon.....dinner from 6ish to 9ish. Along with all that time to eat there is an open light fare menu all day. The breakfast choices and lunch choices both buffet style and off the menu were some of the finest I have ever seen in any 5 star establishment in the Caribbean I have been. Top shelf food. Fresh fruits/salads of all types. Meats and fish. Read all the other reviews folks-read all the other reviews. Quite frankly, the point is, there is absolutely no need to have a food service on the beach. Not necessary. Lack of great food at anytime you want it is not an issue at Spice. Cant get it in your lounger? Oh well. As to the atmosphere of the main dining area....do not be mislead....it is wonderful. Breakfast lunch and dinner all served in the same grand area and said area takes on its own different look with each period. Dinner is transformed into an elegant affair with beautiful lighting and music, linen, the whole first class affair. A problem with liquor quantity in your drinks? Preposterous. As much or as little as you wanted, Again top shelf liquor as well. I stayed in a lovely room and had a complete bar set up in it. All complimentary. I didn't open one bottle of anything because the beautiful main bar was all I needed. Spice is not "holding back" on the liquor folks. And I do my share of drinking....all different styles and concoctions. They had it all, not even to mention the wines at dinner and during the day. This complaint was beyond silliness. GOT MOVED TO A ROOM WITH A VIEW OF GARBAGE CANS, WHEELBARROWS, AND DOGS RELIEVING THEMSELVES ON THE SAND. I was not in this room. Do not know for sure. Never saw a dog in my 7 days. But I do know I walked every sidewalk and nook and cranny of this property thru-out my days there and I had management take me in and out of other rooms styles so I could review for upcoming trips. I never saw a setting as the one described. Not even close. I spent at least 2 full hours walking the entire property with my camera taking photos over my stay.....every walkway.....around all buildings......never saw this. In closing, this is the problem with this system of reviews. People stating things as fact that are not fact against an establishment that works very hard to satisfy every single guest. It is The Hopkins family passion and their families complete lives. Theirs and their managers and every single great employee. They deserve to be critiqued fairly. Keep it real people. Thanks for reading.
