Erg indrukwekkend!
We honeymooned at Tango Mar early April. We are a same-sex couple but felt completely at ease. The resort is so small that we had some of the pools to ourselves much of the time with stunning beach views all around. There is a lot of wood that washes up on the beach so staff sometimes makes bonfire, so relaxing and sunrises are worth waking up for. The staff is great! Jesse was exceptional. He took us to the Curu National Wildlife Refuge where we saw many monkeys (including a mother carrying a three-day old baby on her back!), birds including macaws plus a rare white bat and a beautiful beach. The restaurants are excellent and Tango Mar has the best drinks!!! The owner visits guest during breakfast and dinner. I thought the breakfast buffet was great with plenty to choose from. We also visited the spa often and enjoyed our couples massages. We loved our trip and cannot recommend this place enough for both rest and romance. The location is beautiful but the staff really makes this place special. Warning: due to the pipes, you cannot flush your toilet paper in some rooms (common in Costa Rica), but have to dispose of it in the trash can. I was very nervous about this but you get used to it quickly and the rooms are kept very clean.
"Wonderful Costa Rica"
This was a few days stay at the end of a wonderful CR visit. Great hotel and lovely staff, Good food and facilities. For us a few days was enough as there is nothing there but sea and sand and nothing much locally. Went golfing, horse riding and had a lovely spa massage. Empty at this time of the year.
"Good food and Golf"
Group of us 5 couples stayed walking distance away in home rental for a week. Lunch and dinner good especially snapper, fairly priced and fun. Service was eager and really pleasant.Coconut shrimp also a recommendation. Two of us played golf there; basically an executive course but fun. amid monkeys, huge lizards, all sorts of birds. Truly unique rounds and and memorable
"Beautiful with great added extras"
Idyllic setting, we had a wonderful villa which felt luxurious, particularly the hammocks on a veranda looking over the ocean and palm trees. Staff courteous and helpful, immaculate care and presentation of the rooms alongside a clear eco-policy we could follow. We took the organised snorkel safari from the hotel which was well organised, arriving before the crowds so that the experience was exceptional for the children - bonus of dolphins on the way back, particularly impressed that the staff didn't harass the animals to try to please us and yet we had close views. We had gone to relax, having enjoyed wildlife tours previously, however, one of the receptionists, Jesse Lopez Herru, turned out to be quite the conservationist, working in the grounds to improve it for wildlife alongside a real passion for and knowledge about local birds. He organised and ran a walk for us and introduced us to places and birds off the beaten track. If you have any interest in birds or other wildlife, ask for him personally and you will be richly rewarded. Everything about the stay was beyond what we had hoped for, Jesse was the icing on the cake!
"Very relaxing hotel, amazing at times and disappointing at others!"
Depends what you are here for, there are many pros and many cons: We arrived here for a 4 night stay. I had asked in advance if there was anything special we could arrange as it was our honeymoon. We were told they would decorate the room and we should enquire about a romantic table on the beach one night for dinner, sounds fab! Well we arrived and we asked about the table but the receptionist didn't really give us an answer and just checked us in and said he would show us to our room. We didn't question as had just driven 6 hours so were very tired! We then got to our room which was a lovely room, however, I was sure I had booked sea view but didn't question at we just wanted to get unpacked. There was what I had come to consider normal decoration in the room as in a few flower buds and towels into a swan shape. Something we had come to expect in Costa Rica. We then located the pool which was lovely setting on the beach and started to relax. Pool was nice and quiet, and plenty of beds to choose from all with umbrellas. We had some beers which were very good price considering no other bars around. We had a look on Trip Advisor as we like to try new places but unfortunately nothing in the area bar or restaurant wise you could get too without driving. I can see how this would appeal to people who want to be a bit isolated and relax however we do like to explore. I then contacted reception as I thought I would question the room. It was a nice room but as we were on honeymoon we did want something extra special. I explained that I had believed I had booked a sea view but we could see some villas closer to the front, one of which appeared to be unoccupied. I was told we could have it even though no one else had booked it and it was our honeymoon we would have to pay an extra fee per night. I was also told to come back to ask at Reception about the availability of the beach table as I had explained the receptionist had not answered our query. We thought this was a bit off as it was our honeymoon we thought the hotel would do something a little bit special for us. The highlight was the hike to the waterfall nearby and in addition the abundance of wildlife around the hotel. We were lucky enough to see whales during breakfast, monkeys during lunch and some beautiful macaws fly above us during the day. Lots of lizards around the pool as well! Very enjoyable and also saw more monkeys on hike to waterfall Luckily, in the restaurant, the staff were lovely and the choices were good enough for us being here for 4 nights. They would definitely benefit from more starters but I would recommend the Cesar salad made at the table, so lovely and fresh! After dinner, everything just seemed to shut up shop. The bar closed at 10pm so we would just about squeeze in a drink after dinner and everyone else seemed to go back to their room. We do like to stay up and socialise on our holiday but nice if you like an early, quiet night!! We did ask another time at Reception about this romantic table as we could see it set up on the beach. We were directed to the restaurant staff for availability who then directed us to the staff at the other side of the hotel at the pool bar but when we got over there there were no staff to be seen so we just gave up in the end. As I say very nice staff and location, scenery is great but I would recommend coming here if you like isolation and relaxation and a smaller hotel where you can chat to the same guests and experience plenty of wildlife within the hotel grounds. However, I would not recommend for anyone looking for adventure or who likes to venture out for dinner/drinks etc. There were some trips in the next town over and there seemed to be a bit more going on there in Montezuma but we did not get there so I cannot comment
