"best getaway ever!"
I came here in January 2017 with my family. I booked this resort last minute but was so pleased with my accommodations. we stayed in a treehouse 2 queen bedroom and it was really spacious for 3 of us. the resort is absolutely beautiful and luscious (cool critters too, lots of iguanas lol) and the staff was so delightful, I felt welcome the entire time. housekeeping will restock complimentary water bottles but all other waters were charged. my mom really enjoyed how quiet the beach is (compared to the public ones at least)... even at night the skies were clear enough to see the stars over the ocean, it was beautiful. breakfast had abundant choices, but for lunch and dinner we always went out to 5th avenue, which was a short and enjoyable walk to tons of shops and restaurants (it's so lively at night too!). wifi was actually pretty reliable, I was able to use it even at the beach and all over the resort. overall I loved my stay here, would definitely come back soon!
"Came here for my son's wedding in May 2017"
Wake up to the beautiful sounds of birds, spend time at 3 pools or walk to the beach, paint pottery at the Art shack(Victor is awesome), enjoy delicious meals at 3 different restaurants where you may just have the best waiter at the resort, Rogelio. Thank you Rogelio. Your smile and friendliness were always the perfect start to our days. Of the multiple places my son and his new wife visited, they chose Mahekal because of this amazing resort. Karla and the Mahekal staff created the wedding of their dream as well as my dream for their wedding. Thank you Manuel (best poolside waiter at the Infinity pool during our stay) for your attentiveness, excellent memory and helpful suggestions. Rogelio, Manuel and Victor stand out but all the staff we encountered were wonderful. I know I will be back at this beautiful resort again (Can't wait)!!
"Perfect anniversary getaway!"
My wife and I had the privilege of staying at this beautiful resort for our 1st anniversary. We stayed in a beautiful palapa in the jungle with two hammocks on our porch. The room was large and clean and the bathroom was pretty awesome as you could walk out of the indoor shower into a private outdoor shower! The beach was probably the prettiest in Playa Del Carmen and it was a very short walk up to 5th ave which is where we chose to eat dinner and stroll the shops and bars most nights. They offer 2 meals a day inclusive and we mostly ate at the breakfast buffet by the pool overlooking the sea in the mornings and opted out of dinner and instead requested lunch at the beach in our loungers with coronas in hand! Overall we were very pleased and will return!
This resort was so much more than I ever imagined! We took a shuttle from the airport so we saw 2 or 3 other resorts on the way and I was not overly impressed with any of them. Then we pulled up and I was like OMG, it's so cute. We got checked in very quickly thanks to Luis. We were taken to our Garden View Palapa, where he helped setup our hammocks. He gave us the quick tour and told us to have a great trip. It was just the beginning. We decided to go to the bar and get some nachos and a beer because we were starving from the flight. Immediately we fell in love with the infinity pool and the view from the bar. After nachos we went to tour the resort some more ourselves and that's when we ran into Gabriel (this man is amazing). He takes us to this little fountain where we get to see a toucan in the wild. It was the neatest thing to see and we've only been there an hour. We went to dinner that night which was so delicious, but we just couldn't finish. We go to our room and fall asleep in the comfortable beds. The next day we choose to visit the dive shop and decided we'd go for the snorkeling tour. It was great! There was 5 of us on the tour, we saw sea turtles, sting rays and even a pufferfish (blowfish)! We actually got tired before our snorkeling tour was over! We make the boat ride back to the resort, did some more beach/pool time (and talked with Gabriel some more) and then it was time for the Beach BBQ. This was by far the best food of the whole trip! The food was a 12 out of 10 and the view was great! We did attend a wedding a nearby all inclusive resort on our 3rd day there and it left a lot to be desired, we could not wait to get back to our resort. Taxis are available right outside the little private entrance, but the concierge will gladly get one for you if you want. There was water bottles available whenever you wanted one. The staff at this resort will do anything to make this the trip of a lifetime, even if they don't speak your language. This resort was so quaint and peaceful, it seriously felt like heaven. This resort was an amazing surprise and we will definitely go back!
Mahekal was heaven on earth. I teared up at breakfast the day we left because I didn't want to leave this little slice of paradise!! We came to Mahekal to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday, and it was a week we won't forget! Let me break it down for you: Transportation to and from the airport: We booked our transportation to and from the airport through Mahekal, and it was $120 total for both of us. We were picked up in a Navigator at the airport, and we were taken back to the airport in a stretch Jetta. Y'all, we were riding in STYLE. The cars have wifi, and they offered us plenty of bottled water. We were very impressed! Check In/Out Process: It was a total breeze! Clara was very professional during our check in, and she made sure we understood our meal plan and where everything was on the resort. Our check out process was super quick. I had read previous reviews where that wasn't the case so obviously they have improved. Our bill was perfect, and each time the whole process MAYBE took 10 minutes. Noise: I was STRESSING when I booked my trip because I read so many reviews about noise. I am the worlds lightest sleeper. I can't have noise. I travel with a white noise machine. The struggle is REAL. We booked our trip, and there was a festival on the calendar of events but we booked anyway. I was expecting to be up all hours of the night. I am here to tell you that I stayed in a garden palapa room, and the bass was faint on the nights there was a music festival. I slept like a baby. It did not keep me up. My husband didn't have any issues sleeping either. After the festival was over we could hear the ocean waves at night, and overall it was peaceful. We were also informed AGAIN of the festival when we checked in. There wasn't any music played on the nights that we weren't marked on the calendar. The palapa rooms let in a bit more sound (like you can hear the birds chirp in the morning and the waves at night) so I was glad that the festival didn't bother us at all. Garden Palapa: Our room was amazing. I mean, can we just move in?? At Mahekal, no detail went unnoticed. It was so beautiful and modern. The whole resort is stunning. We stayed in a garden palapa and absolutely loved it. Tulum Tour: We booked a tour to Tulum and to the Cenotes through the concierge and it was INCREDIBLE!!! We wish we would have done the Tulum, Cenotes, and swimming with turtles trip. So worth the money. So much fun. Half board plan: My husband and I frequent Sandals resorts, and with that we are used to not paying for any food once we are at the resort. We were a little nervous that the food wouldn't be that great or we would end up with a huge bill at the end of the trip. That was not the case! The food was amazing. The drinks were strong. And the service was excellent. After we paid for our trip, the half board plan, and our lunches and tips... it still came out less than an all inclusive resort. The servers at Fuego (Enrique, Elias, and Fidel) were amazing and Ever at Cocina took great care of us!! Be sure to do the Catch of the Day if you see it on the calendar of events at Fuego! We had the grouper and it was so delicious!! Overall, we had an amazing time. My husband had a great birthday, and we cannot wait to come back to Mahekal. I can't say enough good things about this resort.
