"Great time, great people."
My wife and I came to the Mahekal Beach Resort with one thing in mind and that was to relax, and relax we did. From the grounds to the staff to the nature that surrounds, the Mahekal is a cut above. While all of the staff were pleasant and respectful, our server Angel Gabriel always had a smile on his face and a heartfelt welcome for us. We'll miss him. Thank you all for a wonderful stay. We will see you again soon.
"Awesome resort and beach"
Our room was well planned and very comfortable. Everyone we encountered was friendly and very helpful. The food was very good and there was a wide variety to chose from on the a la carte menu as well as the buffet breakfast. Only problem we encountered was keeping beverages cold, an ice machine would of been nice.
"The escape plan"
We needed an idillic getaway, my brilliant wife chose Mahekal. We pinched our selves time and agin as the magic of the place surrounded us. The staff quietly appears, only as needed and otherwise, are happily busy around the 'jungle meets the beach' setting. Get ready to observe one of the best trained resort staffs ever. Our impression of the staff, was equally positive from the concierge Bolio to Leyda our housekeeper. The rooms were exciting and comfortable. We were especially grateful for the attention and the exceptional service of a few individuals on the restaurant staff especially Mr. Angel Gabriel and Rogelio Guerra. Mayan people, who are wonderful hosts, brought down the drama level whenever we were in their presence. We relaxed and felt right at home. We have already shared this impression with all our friends, it was the perfect escape.
My husband and I wanted to have a relax and peaceful time and we really did. We stayed there for 5 days, the property is beautiful, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the service provided by the friendly staff members is really good, from the moment we arrived to the hotel until we left. We have to give special thanks to Denise from the concierge desk, she was very nice and helpful, Angel who was our waiter during the breakfast, very nice person and gave us good recommendations of the special menu, and Manuel from the bar at one of the pools, a very nice person too. We definitely will come back next year with the kids.
"The best beach in Playa"
I have been coming to Mexico for quite some time. I absolutely love the Riviera Maya. I have vacationed over a dozen times in the area from Isla Holbox down into Tulum. Its one of the best places in the Caribbean. Of all the resorts I have stayed at Mahekal (formerly it was Las Palapas), is one of my top 3. Its not the cheapest and they are not total all inclusive but that's ok because if you are doing what you should be doing... which is venturing out you won't eat all three meals at the resort. It has something for everyone. I think the best part of the resort is the pool and the beach with the palm trees. There are very resorts that offer that setting in Playa. It is really picturesque. The food at the hotel is mid teir. It's not the fanciest or the biggest selection. But honestly, you should really be trying out some of the other restaurants that are close to the resort. I will say that getting breakfast at the main bar in the AM overlooking the beach is an experience. The resort staff are very friendly! I really enjoyed seeing them everyday. Some of the nicest people you will meet, be sure to tip well! They are such great and friendly folks. The rooms are great! They are minimal, I didn't have a TV in mine and honestly, that is OK! Some people might not like that. I was good with it. You can sit outside your room in a hammock with a couple beers and watch the sun go down. Its better than TV. I always had a clean room and that's all that mattered. The beach is very well taken care of. Its really hard work to manicure a beach all day every day. So be grateful for how clean it is. As far as the happenings close to the resort. Almost everything the average tourist would want to do, and SHOULD be doing is close. Staying at the resort all day, when in a places like Playa and all the culture near by (Tulum, the ruins, Xel-Ha and even Chitchen Itza) you should get out more, spend time seeing new things. But close to Mahekal is a couple beach clubs with hip EDM music for the young crowd but it's very quite on the beach so no worries about the sound. There is a fria coconut shop next to OXO which sells amazing cold coconuts. Try it! There is a French bakery close on fifth avenue that's sells amazing coffee and pastries. The French bread with butter and grape jam on the patio outside is to DIE for. 5th avenue is close to the resort, it goes all the way down as far as most people chose to walk. Just off fifth, close to the mall, is a local taqueria called Don Sirloins. Just sit down, order three to twenty tacos, and a couple "Sol" beers and stuff enjoy! the most amazing tacos ever! There is an a realllly fun nightlife down town just off of fifth. It's on the corner of first ave and something else. But it's hard to miss. Mandala is fun, so is Blue Parrot. Tourist trap if you ask me but that is still fun. Parties rage most all night on the weekends. This is the perfect resort in my opinion to spend a week at. You get the ability to do a little of everything. Its probably in my opinion the best value. The full all inclusive resorts are great If you want to be lazy and not do a thing including venture out. But you get no experience that way. Enjoy Mahekal! It's well worth it. PS: For people visiting other resorts or booing an apartment, they have a day beach pass which I HIGHLY recommend. You get food included up to a certain amount in the pass. Last time I bought it, it was $20 a person, but you got back $17.00 in food credit... WELLLLL Worth the $3.00 bucks to use the beach chairs and youd spend that in food anyways!
