"Welcoming, Friendly Resort"
Mahekal is a very inviting and relaxing resort! We were made to feel comfortable and at home immediately upon arrival and that lasted throughout the entire stay. The rooms are spacious and quiet. Each one has 2 hammocks outside on the porch that are wonderful for relaxing, reading or even catching a nap. There are upper and lower rooms to choose from. If you have difficulty with steps, then I would recommend staying in a lower hut. In the upper hut you feel like you are in your very own private tree house, complete with a palapa roof. We loved the way it was like a small community where everything was convenient but also was so private and cozy. The grounds are absolutely beautifully landscaped which adds to the welcoming atmosphere. The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly, even acknowledging you in all sections of the resort. The food was tasty with many options to choose from. Even though it really goes without saying, the beach is gorgeous Our daughter was married there, which was the reason for our visit. The planner, Karla, was so kind, helpful and nothing was overlooked. It was a perfect day for celebrating marriage! The day following the wedding we went to Tulum, which is very interesting as well as having beautiful ocean views. With all this in mind, we are planning a return visit! Gracias, Mahekal Beach Resort!!
"A Birthday Treat "
Playa Del Carmen does offer a wide array of hotels to choose from. But if you really want to make this visit count, don’t waste more time and pick Mahekal Beach Resort. This property is very well taken care of, it will take your breath away every time you walk around it. The staff is happy and always friendly. The food is exquisite in any of their many restaurants. The services and attention at the Spa is definitely a must. Mahekal’s location is prime. Not only the beachside but also just less than a 5 minute walk to 5ta Avenida. Iï¸ believe you will experience the tropical, Latin and Mexican hospitality at this resort and you will long to return with friends and family as soon as possible. Gracias a todos que conforman la familia del Mahekal por haber hecho de nuestra estadÃa y de mi celebración de cumpleaños ... una experiencia perfecta!
The moment you enter the open-air lobby, you know your home. This was our third visit to Mahekal Beach Resort and it will be an annual family retreat for my family. I’ve traveled to over 30 countries, been to the most exotic locations and stayed at some of the finest resorts in the world, and Mahekal is right near the top of my list. The biggest improvement I’ve noticed in the last several years is the amazing staff. Your primary contacts will remember your name, your room number and even recall the last time you visited. Manuel from the pool bar, our waiters Santiago and Jesus, Victor from Boli’s Bar and the ret of the staff will great you with warm smiles, open arms and make you feel right at home. Mahekal even made us a personal, fire-glazed ceramic decorative plate with our name on it as a souvenir, a very nice touch. During our first few visits we stayed in two adjacent garden rooms near between the lobby and swimming pool. We chose these rooms because we had a family of four, there were close to the pool (older parents), had palapa roofs and a private patio with plunging pool. There were only two of us during our last visit, so we opted for a garden view room. We stayed in room #173, which was a second story palapa style room that felt just like living in a tree house. When booking a room, keep in mind that most ground story rooms have stucco ceilings (which is fine) and second story rooms have palapa roofs (we prefer). Besides Mahekal having a great location, a beautiful beach, excellent landscaped grounds and a professional/friendly staff, the food is by far my favorite part. The meals are absolutely excellent and I’ve never been disappointed with the food. The two options for dinner dining is the Cocina Restaurant (buffet) in the main dining room and Fuego’s, which is an intimate romantic beach restaurant. The food at Fuego’s is a little better but you will have to a little more (if you use food credits) for the privilege. The absolute must try dishes at Fuego’s is the Lobster Bisque with Coconut Milk (lunch only) and the Chilean Sea Bass, which is on a Portobello mushroom with sweet corn and bacon (dinner). I mean, yummy! In fact, my two favorite seafood dishes EVER have come from this restaurant, and that says a lot (see above). Mahekal Beach Resort is a great place to stay while visiting Playa del Carmen. And yes, I’ve considered staying at other resorts each time I visit Playa del Carmen, but then I ask myself why? Why stay somewhere else when Mahekal Beach Resort is as close to perfection as one needs.
"Friendly Service with a Beautiful Property"
I booked this last minute, and arrived very early in the morning. I wasn’t expecting a room to be ready, but they surprisingly had a great room available for me. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful! Andres took care of my boyfriend and I for lunch and breakfast. He was friendly, kind, and always had a smile on his face! He was very informative about the area. Great Service! I wish I had more time to spend here, but I would love to come back! It is a very beautiful property with amazing service!
"Incredible gem hidden within a loud, noisy touristy area"
Like most reviews say, the place is magical. I was surprised how touristy and clubby playa del carmen was in general. This resort is truly a gem in the city and is incredibly reasonable in price. The whole experience was breathe-taking. I have travelled a lot and spent a good amount of time at beach resorts. This was one of the most well-balance resorts I've been to. It was clean, catering, and simple. There was enough stuff going on at the resort for those that wanted activities but it was not booming with business. It also was not a isolated pure peaceful resort. It was this very interesting hybrid. At any point, you could venture into the business of the town and explore the area but you could escape to the calm of the resort. The price was very reasonable and the partial inclusive was one of the best options I've seen. We got the full experience of not having to carry around money but got to choose where we paid a little extra. A true all inclusive is almost always more money than any one person can eat/ drink. The peace of mind that it's paid for up front is nice but is really a waste of money. The most incredible thing about this resort was the food/ service. The service around the resort was in par with most resorts you go to. It felt a bit more personal because it's a smaller resort. The service in the restaurants was unreal. The servers were so friendly, welcoming, and willing to be open and honest. Their English was impeccable, which can make communicating feel less of a struggle. The main servers (Rogelio and Alberto) were amazing. Rogelio is one of the friendliest, open-minded, sweet, smiley people you'll ever meet. He was born to make people happy. He truly is such a hard-worker and makes it a point to get to know something about you. As someone who used to work in the travel industry, Rogelio is a gem and is as genuine as they come. Alberto is a bit more soft-spoken but is so kind. He exuded pride in his country and his place of work. He made us feel so welcome every night we went to Fuego. He also loved answering any and every question about the food, wine, or anything else about Mexico. All in all, I would highly recommend this for the following types of people: honeymooner, couples who enjoy peace but have a desire to engage in some types of activities, families with easy-going or middle aged children (ages 8-15), or anyone that really wants to see the Yucatan. To me, playa is way better than Cancun for a whole range of reasons and the East Coats of Mexico trumps the west coast (at least with the Carribean waters).
