We booked this hotel for its location close to the canal for 3 nights over the Easter weekend and were terribly disappointed. When you walk in to the lobby, the hotel looks spacious and airy. There is a big pool on the canal side which we didn't use as it was most of the time full with children over this holiday weekend. Our room was on the 3rd floor with garden view. Already, when you get out of the elevator, you smell strong mildew odors and used air. Getting into the room, it gets worse. It smells moldy, stuffy and there's a strong ammonia odor. You have to open the window a moment to breathe and let dry air in. Everything is humid and sticky, walls, the floor, furnishing, the bed. During the first two nights, we heard a gurgling noise of water from the room above or adjacent, of which we informed the front desk. The next night, we heard a dripping and in the morning, we saw water leaking through the bathroom ceiling. All our clothes where damp and started smelling as well. We had to hang them to dry in the sun on the balcony. When we packed, we saw that the back of our suitcases were dripping wet. If this weren't enough, the shower (with a lot of water, though), was either hot or cold and Aircon was hard to adjust. There were lots of towels on the first day but they were not replaced during the following days (and towels didn't dry in this humidity!). Breakfast is not sumptuos but OK. The staff in the breakfast room do a very good job. Tables are quickly cleared and the buffet always filled. We brought the issues above to the desk staff but we doubt that our comments were noted and that anything will be improved. The front desk staff tried to make us believe that the humidity and the odour comes from the special climate close to the canal, which is ridiculous. If I go back to older Tripadvisor comments, it seems that the same complaints come regularly since several years and the managment regularly promises to take care.
"Great staff, pretty views - otherwise average"
We stayed here from April 3-6. It felt like a motel, in a lot of ways. The power and the water had some kind of shut off within hours of each other on one day. It seems odd that they wouldn't have a backup generator. It was difficult to get things done without light and electricity for the hour or so that it was out. (Like the white noise machine to block out hotel noises so my daughter could nap - BUT they did give me batteries at the front desk.) The free breakfast buffet was average. Room service is provided by the Friday's on site (and you definitely need Spanish to do more than point at the menu based on my experience). We did enjoy the pool very much, and I think it was the highlight of our stay. Our daughter is a toddler and loves to swim, so having a dedicated wading pool was an excellent way to keep her entertained and get out some of her energy. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. I think most of them spoke at least basic English, but I mostly just spoke to them in Spanish and that was simple enough for everyone. My husband said that it was pretty easy to communicate in English when he went down with our daughter for breakfast without me.
Nice location along the Canal (Pacific end), within sight of the Bridge of the Americas. You can get a perfect view of the bridge by walking down the nearby pier, where there's also a ferry company that offers a 1/2 hour ride to a beach on Contadora Island. Nice pool and deck for sunning, swimming, and watching the ships entering and exiting the Canal. Big drawback: the hot tub was not hot by any means! Excellent full breakfast with plenty of fruit. Nice rooms. Somewhat aloof staff.
"Professional Staff/ Awesome View"
We arrived super early since our plane came in at 5 a.m. We were greeted so warmly by Carlos, who helped us with our bags and throughout our stay. I hope the hotel knows how awesome this guy is and what an asset he is to their business. True professionalism. He seems like the heart of the hotel, which is a rare find. The woman who checked us in was also fantastic. She did her best to get us into a room as soon as possible and was also a complete professional. The pool is awesome. They have a kid/wading pool which was great for our 6-year-old. We paid a little extra.for a room with a view that was amazing! We could sit on our balcony and watch ships pass by on their way to or from the canal. Our room had a musty smell, which is sort of normal with hotels in the tropics. Loved that the floor was tiled and not carpeted. Much cleaner! Just wish the beds had triple sheeting and not a duvet cover that doesn't get washed between guests. Outdated concept...and gross. The bed cover seemed to have soaked up the musty smell. The bed was super comfortable other than that. Would have used the mini-bar if it was priced more reasonably. The cafe on the main floor, however, was priced very fairly for specialty coffees. The lobby also had a complimentary coffee station, which was a nice feature. We wished the attached restaurant was something other than an American chain restaurant.(Friday's) We didn't eat there. The included breakfast had a nice variety of food and was nicely kept and attended to. My only complaint is that on the second morning, we arrived at 9:30 and they had stopped replenishing food and everything was broken down without warning, including drinks by 9:45. That was disappointing. Just a heads up to the people seated would be nice. We have kids and go up in stages. Overall, it was a great hotel, and we would stay here again because of how welcomed we were made to feel by Carlos, the proximity to the boat for Taboga, and the awesome pool and view.
"A nice place to stay"
We stayed here a couple of nights, relaxed at the swimmingpool, spacious rooms with service minded staff. We had a room with balcony overlooking thr famous Panama Canal. We witnessed the passing of many boats through our balcony.. A sight to watch.
