"A short winter retreat with a fabulous view"
We went to watch a ski race and spent the night here. This is a beautiful property with friendly staff and a setting to die for. They had a special winter rate for the ski race with the race ending at the hotel. They also have a service to call you in your room if the Northern Lights are out. We did get the call and it was worth it. It was a perfect day. We hope they do this again next year.
Unfortunately we stayed only 1 night at this lovely place and I still regret that. This a big facility, located in a very large land and despite the fact it's crowded (normal with so many rooms), you never feel the crowd and you can enjoy the surrounding calm and tranquility anytime. Though our tour company had chosen the wrong rooms (we stayed in rooms looking into the parking lot and we were very pissed of about it as rooms looking into the Denali had the most fabulous views, but it was not the hotel's fault), we really enjoyed our stay, walking into woods (don't forget mosquito repeller though) drinking at the beautifully flowered porch etc. The staff is very polite, very helpful. The big lobby with the fire place is relatively small when compared with the numbers of customers but in summer, you hardly need to stay indoors anyway. The lodge is not in walking distance to Talkeetna but there are regular shuttles from and to, so it's not a problem either. Meal options are a bit limited and disappointing: the bistrot has a very restricted menu, the restaurant Foraker closes at 9 pm and there are no other options. As for the breakfast, though it's advertised it's one of the best breakfasts in overall Alaska, we were quite disappointed with limited options at the open buffet as well. So, wining and dining aside, it was a great pleasure to stay at this hotel. If I had the chance, I would have stayed longer but would go to Talkeetna for meals and try the restaurants there.
"Spectacular panoramic views"
We got a special treat when the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge teamed up with the Alaska Railroad opening early to offer a late winter overnight deal. Beautiful Lodge, good food, clean and comfy rooms, excellent service, free shuttles on request, and a unbeatable view...and yes, the aurora did come out at midnight for a green light show. We'd booked a mountainside view room with a broad northwestern view, so we were able to watch the full light show from our room. We'll add this to our bucket list again next year!
"Exemplary Staff & Gorgeous Setting"
Gorgeous lodge, stunning views, relaxing birch wood fire in the central fire place. Our room looked out over the river valley and north to the mountains. It was surreal it is so beautiful. The spacious deck outside the main level looks toward the same direction, and we found ourselves basically living on that deck. We had morning coffee, afternoon cocktails and dinner looking over the green river valley. The walking trail on the property was an easy trek and we even encountered a mama moose who just had twins. They soon cordoned off that area to keep them protected from the humans. The staff was the most professional, courteous, accommodating and well-managed group we have encountered in a long time. The staff is mostly comprised of 'kids' from all over working between college semesters. They we re all very interesting and fun to talk to. Some were experiencing AK for the first time like us, and they too couldn't believe they were working there. Food was not extravagant, but was good and tasty. We will be back!
Beautiful lodge setting on remote hillside overlooking the Susitna Valley and the small town of Talkeetna. On a clear day you can see Denali which is over 120 miles away. All the amenities you need are on site and Talkeetna is a short walk away. Be aware of the wildlife that is around the lodge though; you are in their territory. The views are breath taking and you will enjoy the large deck on back of the lodge and hiking trails to take it all in.
