"Saved by the Staff"

This is a great resort for families. The beach is beautiful. The staff did an amazing job, are very friendly and my room was clean. But, the evening before we departed we tried to organize a cab to the airport, and they were booked out. No one told us to organize this at least a day before when we checked in! The staff the night before did their best to help, but no cars. The next morning, when we asked the manager for help, she rolled her eyes and offered no solution. Wait, she did give us a list of taxi companies and told us to call them. After we just dropped $2400. There were no options and no one really had any solutions........Except for Lynne at the security gate who saved our hides. She found us a ride, prevented us from having to cough up flight change fees, made our day with her true New York hospitality and ensured we will definitely return again.

"Beautiful location, but Accommodations need a lot of work."

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the South Seas Resort. This was our 4th trip to this resort – but unfortunately, it could be our last until the accommodations get an overhaul. This is really a shame, because the location is absolutely beautiful. South Seas has so much to offer. The common areas are very well maintained. The beaches are gorgeous. The pools, restaurants, and service are great. Unfortunately, the accommodations (I am currently focused on the Beach Villas, Tennis Villas, and Bayside Villas) are just worn out. The bathrooms are small and dated. The windows, doors, walls, furniture, etc have seen better days. Yet, South Seas is still charging top dollar for these accommodations. I paid $500 per night while we were there. The accommodation we received just wasn’t worth that kind of money. When we first arrived, we were checked into a Bayside Villa. The Villa’s AC was not working. We called the front desk and they had Engineering come out to take a look. While engineering was checking out the AC, a housecleaner came in to check out the bathroom because she said it “hadn’t been working right”. Not off to a great start. Engineering was not able to fix the AC so we needed to move rooms. We were originally told there were no rooms available (not acceptable), so the Manager on Duty had to get involved. They did find us another Bayside Villa, but by then, we had already wasted the first afternoon of our vacation. Based on the reviews I am seeing, it looks like the accommodations are a big drawback for many. I do hope that South Seas takes notice and does something about it – because this really could be a fabulous place worth $500 night.

"Everything but...."

This property boasts an ideal location with outstanding views. We stayed this time in a private home with a pool, located right on an inlet and overlooking the sound. Really a great house with every feature imaginable, except HD television. Why have a beautiful 70 inch flatscreen and not have HD quality inputs? Makes zero sense particularly if you are a sports fan, and you have to leave the property to go watch the NBA playoffs and the NFL draft. We later learned this is the case across the entire resort, as we sat at the Crooked Snook tiki bar for lunch and they too were playing analog TV. The staff told us that numerous complaints have been filed but management and the owners have resisted for some reason. OK, management and owners - time to get with it and upgrade to HD. You can count on the fact that we won't be back until that occurs. Makes no sense to me that we are staying in a $4 million dollar home and paying a premium rental fee with no HD.

"Paradise !!"

We were in the Bayside villa at the south point I would not call the resort a luxury hotel there is no room service in room Jacuzzi etc.. The villa was a small condo style with a kitchen which we didn't use. It was very clean with a wonderful view. Housekeeping was timely and always efficient. One recommendation is to spend the extra $$ and rent a golf cart in advance of your stay. We did and it was so much fun to ride around the resort. The beach, restaurants, and large pools are all spread across the resort so walking isn't very easy. There were a few hiccups like not having guest towels at the south side pool and the elevator was out of service one day during our stay but nothing the beaches and view couldn't overcome. The restaurants on the resort are "ok" but there are many others to choose from right down the road (3 minute ride in the golf cart) we really liked RC Otters.

We are locals and wanted to visit Captiva for a quick weekend get away on our anniversary. South Seas seemed like the logical choice. We usually go down to Marco Island. We showed up early on Saturday and the lady at the checkout counter was very nice and helpful. We reserved the 1 bedroom, ocean villa for our stay for $550 per night. She said they would call us when the room was ready. We went to the pool to have lunch and wait. The first bartender ignored us until David noticed and came over to help, David was easily the most helpful person with the best sense of customer service that we encountered on our stay. The fries with out lunch came out ice cold and he fixed it right away. The biggest issue was the quality of the room. The beachfront villa is really a one bedroom condo with a view of the water. Nice, but not a beachfront villa. The room was small and dingy with motel 6 quality furniture. There was dirt in the corners, water damage on the bathroom door and cobwebs in the lanai. The master bedroom was tiny and had, I'm serious, a 19" TV mounted on the wall. This about the size of your average laptop screen. I sent pictures to my friends so they could have a laugh at my expense. It was funny, but not for $550 per night. We usually go to Marco Island and stay at various resorts down there and the quality for that price is much higher. Additionally customer service was mediocre and I'm sorry to say that we won't be back and we'll be steering our local friends away from South Seas.
