"Good but not great"

First problem, we get there early, like 11:00 a.m. and know check does not start until 4:00 p.m. and that we can use the beach/pool/etc while we wait for their text. We did. When I checked about 3:00 to see how they were doing they told me it wasn't ready yet. When I checked again 3:50 p.m. they said the same thing. I told them it was about 4:00 and that check-in starts then and that does not mean we get our room at 4:00. I told her it means that everywhere else I have been and that I was paying for a room at 4:00. When I asked to talk to the manager she said she would ask him to call. She texted me 2 minutes later to tell me the room was ready. So it was ready for who knows how long but they were not letting us have it. Never had that experience before. We rented in the tennis area, which was away from the main pool area further north. We could take a shuttle up there but didn't see any reason to do so. We had to walk through the tennis courts, a road, a couple parking lots and some buildings to get to the pool. They had chairs and towels there for us, but the water is too cold for us on Spring Break. The beach is not what we are used to. It is shelly an brown, not white and pure up in the gulf, but it is what it is. We only went one day, but the sunset there was fantastic. We had a smaller pool by our room that was fairly private with little use. We spent our days there getting some sun, some shade and some water time. There are no towels at the pool, so we had to walk to the beach or shuttle to the north end to get them daily. That was my walk to the beach and back each day. There were a lot of little bugs around the pool, so if there is no breeze you might have a problem as we had to leave one day. They were there to some extent every day. We were there all the time and only saw them clean it once. the housekeeping was very good, particularly an 80 year-old lady from Jamaica who was friendly and did a great job. If you like to play tennis this would be a good place, but I can do that at the high school or the park.

"Great vacation!"

Amazing!! Such a wonderful time. This resort was just the right fit for my 9 year old son and I. Highly recommended! My son spent most of his time on the water slides while I relaxed with a good book under an umbrella.

"Beautiful Location for Family Spring Break"

Our first visit - The resort covers 300 acres with 2+ miles of beach on the tip of beautiful Captiva Island, so the location is ideal! Our family (w/2 teenagers) spent a week in early April at South Seas and had a very nice vacation. The resort is large so we rented a golf cart from Sunny Island Adventures which came in handy for not only getting around the resort, but exploring Captiva Island outside the resort (restaurants, shops, etc near Andy Rosse Lane). We had positive experiences with all South Seas Resort personnel (check-in, concierge, cleaning, service, etc). I very much appreciated the service to deliver food to our villa prior to arrival. We enjoyed both the South and North point beach areas. There is a huge stretch of beach in-between but the resort does not provide chairs or towel service for the full stretch so the designated beach areas felt a bit crowded (but it was high-season April). The north point beach (sunset beach) has a snack hut/tiki bar which provided good tropical drinks and sandwiches, and every night provides entertainment between 5pm and sunset. It also has a hut for Sunny Island Adventures so you can rent paddleboards, floats, waverunners, etc. The south beach location provides chairs and towel service but does not have a snack shack or rental center. There is a service cart (Lynne) which visits during the day for tropical drinks, excellent sandwiches, etc. The main pool complex is also nice with a beautiful view of the sound, but it was so crowded we only enjoyed it one day. The service at the main pool was attentive as well. We ordered lunch and drinks and the service was fast and friendly. We enjoyed a few excursions - the Waverunner tour of North Captiva and Parasailing - both organized through Sunny Island Adventures, and the Sunset Sail through Captiva Cruises - all available directly from North point T-dock and marina area. All highly recommended! We enjoyed dinner at Harborside and Doc Ford's a few times. Both very good. Off-site we enjoyed Cantina Captiva, The Mucky Duck, Captiva Inn. All worth the visit. Kids enjoyed the arcade too (which was next to Doc fords). Now, for the villa - a 2 bedroom Beach Villa - which was just ok. The view was fabulous, but the inside of the condo needed a bit of updating. Beds were fine, pillows were lumpy. Bathrooms were fine, Kitchen needed updating. Carpet was fine, tile floors needed updating. Couch was new, lighting was dated. TVs were new, connection was still not wi-fi. You get the jist. We didn't let it impact our vacation but was hoping for a fully updated villa for the amount charged per night during high-season. That said... Overall though, we would visit South Seas again and recommend it for family vacations.

"Pleasant Stay!"

We stayed at Lands End Village which we found to be relaxing and had a nice view of the water. We found the room to be clean. However, for the price that we paid for this Villa , this place is in serious need of updating as the furniture was outdated and the couch has seen some better days as it had frayed areas on it. We also didnt care for the fact that some places did not take cash or a credit card and the only way to purchase anything from these particular establishments was to bill it directly to your room. The staff was pleasant and we had a wonderful boat ride on a beautiful day to Useppa Island! Due to the above listed areas we rated our stay as a 4 .

"Mixed review"

Good; Pools. Overall, pleasant stay. Not Good; 1. Very slow and laborious check in. 2. After paying ahead of time, we learned at check in about the $35.00/day resort fee. This is mandatory, so why not just include it in the villa fee paid ahead of time. It feels like a scam the way it is. Include the resort fee with the villa charge, or at least inform people ahead of time about this added fee. 3. The tennis villa was rather "worn". The sliding doors did not work well. 4. We were visiting relatives who have a time share unit on the canal with docks and a pool. There was a dead manatee washed up to the bank, right beside the pool. This was reported immediately upon arrival. It took 2 days and multiple calls to get it removed. By this time the animal was eviscerated, covered with flies, and emitting a very strong odor. I know this needed to be handled by the Fl Fish and Game department, but South Seas was quite blase about it all. They could/should have handled it better by pressing Fl Fish and Game and by communicating better with the guests that were affected.
